Review Lee Gar Nei - Surrey

We were on our way back home from a road trip and boy did we choose the perfect comfort food spot for our return. The tofu soup had so much flavor, i chose spicy (which i love) but next time i may try mild. Everything was tasty and we couldnt stop eating even though we were so full

Is just authentic korean food. You will either like it or not enjoy it at all. In a small place with almost all of the customers being asian. A bit pricey for the food. Seems a but intimidating at first but everyone is having a good time inside.

Went for lunch with my buddy. Liked the Korean style decor and quick service. We ordered Toufu pot and goat pot. The food was great in perfect size. We asked for extra small side dishes cause those were really for to go with the rice. Will try other dishes next time.

The soondae soup is very flavourful, but may be on the salty side to people's liking. The green onion pancake was crispy and has lots of seafood in it. Ox bone soup was already salty so we did not use the extra salt provided. Overall was good enough for a re-visit!

Ordered the kimchi fried rice. It tasted a little too sour for me. Not the best kimchi fried rice out there but not the worst. If you're contemplating getting kimchi fried rice here, I'd pass on it.

Absolutely MASSIVE portion for the online order of the pork backbone soup. So massive that I had to measure the container the soup came. The thing clocks in at 5 inches high, 7 inches wide - ridiculously enormous. It was filled 3/4ths the way too. I'm not complaining though, everything tastes great. Would recommend.

We came in for dinner. Server Elena rude from the start. Asked for an extra side of radish and she's here's one more that's all you get. Food was alright. Tipped 18% no thank you. When my kids were getting a candy from the dish at the end of the meal she watched them like a hawk. Lots more Korean places in town. Won't be going back.

This is one of my most favorite Korean restaurant! I used to visit here weekly/ biweekly. They don’t serve fancy food/dishes,something look fancy or creative. But they know how to cooks, everything done perfectly. All dishes I had were perfectly cooked, such as timing(No over cooked), amount of ingredients/ spices(salty or greasy). Also the price is good, reasonable. Highly recommended everyone to visit this fantastic Korean restaurant.

A decent place but not really my go-to for Korean food. It is more pricey than some other nearby places and the location before it was Lee Gar Nei (before it was Yangmani and BJS). Soft Tofu Soup is pretty good as is their Soondae (blood sausage). The Ox Bone soup has some more beef but it is a bit tough and the noodles are cellophane noodles rather than flour. They also now offer shaved ice (Bingsoo) but I went too late last time and they went on lunch break. A bit shocked to the comments here of racism, as the service was friendly on my last visit, though pnce before it was a bit unassuring to walk in and see they didn't immediately clean up tables after a busy lunch hour.

EDIT: I was told by friends who went more recently that they no longer serve Bingsoo.

This place has good Beef Bulgogi (M9). Unfortunately that is where it goes downhill from there. We were in this restaurant last week. Got seated, waitress gave us our menus. 25 minutes later we tried to flag someone down, but both the Korean ladies ignored us. I saw two parties that came in after us get their order taken and their food came out first, even though we have been waiting for a awhile to order :/

Been here so many times because we want to give them a chance because the food isn't half bad but they are racist everytime. They only serve Koreans and will blatantly ignore you and serve the people who enter after you. We waited 25 minutes just to get our menus....lol this place is a joke...don't go here unless you want to be pissed off

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to after tonight's experience.

We arrived at 7:30 p.m. There was one older Korean waitress.

She gave us menus and did not come back to take our order after we tried to get her attention twice. She made eye contact with me, nodded but never got back to our table. We are very understanding people. Humans forget sometimes. My friend tried to flag her down with no success as she briskly zipped by our table. The young Korean group that waited for a table, got seated by her, drinks and she took their order as she ignored us. We waited for 30 minutes. During the 30 minutes, she took only orders and payments from Korean patrons.

There is definitely racism coming from this older waitress. I'm Asian myself, just not Korean. This is not the first time that this has happened. It's always the older lady that does it. The younger servers aren't bad.

The food is tasty, too bad this experience left a sour taste.

Excellent service, generous refills on the "free" sides, and the food was fantastic. Spicy pork hot pot and oxtail soup, which was boiling when it was served. All for just $22. Can't beat that. Will return!

I went at 9 and was planning on getting some food to go. The lady and the cook said they are not taking orders because it was late. I wasn't closing for another hour or so. If no one was there, why didn't they just close for the night?

I don't know why this place rates so poorly. I was actually fairly impressed with it. I ordered Black Goat soup which has a healthy portion of greens and mustard seed. Even though this doesn't sound like a recipe for something delicious, it was. They are generous with the side dishes (also tasty) and the service was really quite attentive.

Am I missing something?

Lee gar nei. My phone battery promptly ran out as soon as i took a couple of pictures, so sadly, i couldn't get pics of our mains.
the good:
-very generous portions of meat and seafood in our dishes. more than i have ever seen in any other korean restaurant in the lower mainland
-spicy squid rice bowl was pretty decent... copious amount of squid and a decent tasting sauce
-bright, homey, and clean place
the not so good:
-pork bone soup was an unusual brown color... first time seeing one that wasn't red... was not a fan... bland and gamey
-service was slow and not too friendly
