It is hard to go wrong with Taiwanese food (so many tasty possibilities) and Bubble 88 is a good choice, hidden in the Royal Bank strip mall adjacent to Surrey Central Mall. Unfortunately, I have a terrible time making up my mind at this kind of place, especially if there is a decision to be made within the choice (do it yourself combos). I briefly considered just asking for one of each! We arrived seriously starving on Sunday afternoon (someone should have eaten breakfast!).We ordered Popcorn Chicken almost before sitting down to keep from falling completely into a low blood sugar fog. It arrived quickly and was hot, salty and tasty and moist inside. We happily munched it down in no time and were soon able to see straight and make up our minds as to the rest of our meal! I have a weakness for Curry Brisket with Rice and order it often. The "banchan' that arrived with it was somewhat impressive. The cauliflower was quite plain but very refreshing and a good foil for the rich curry. I did love the curry but I spooned a lot, I mean a lot of grease off the top. I guess that is the consequence of nice fatty brisket but I feel like the kitchen could have handled some of it!
My partner ordered the Seafood Noodle in Soup.and it came as a generous serving with plenty of seafood. The broth was chicken stock and the noodles were just cooked enough to maintain a bit of chewiness. To be honest, the squid seemed a bit too fishy for my tastes but I liked the white fish pieces. Finally for my partner's 6 year old granddaughter, whose company we were enjoying that day, we ordered Deep Fried Boneless Chicken Leg with Rice. I am not sure what the process would be for deboning the chicken leg for this. The legs tend to be full of tendons that would make the process a little tedious. But deboned and pounded thin and deep fried, this was a tasty dish and Juelle, who eats like a bird, enjoyed the bird, and had some to take home. I have to say that I heartily recommend this combination. The rice was topped with some bits of stewed pork belly. Very Nice! And does anyone go for Taiwanese without Bubble Tea? Service is efficient as is the kitchen. Everything arrived in fairly short order. There is a station with containers so that you can pack up your inevitable left overs for later! Bright and comfortable inside, come try something tasty from their extensive menu!

Bubble 88 is located by Surrey Central Skytrain Station. It's a medium size Taiwanese Restaurant. The food here is in small portion with the Cheap price. The taste is decent. Large environment. Servers are nice and friendly. There are many selections for Bubble tea. The price of the bubble tea is a little bit over priced. The last thing is this place cash only. :(

Went to try Bubble 88 with a friend since I had an entertainment book coupon. Unfortunately they didn't want to accept it. Oh well. The food was good value for money. The space is very trendy looking and clean. Service was okay, the servers were pleasant but stayed by the counter and chatted a lot with each other.

The popcorn chicken was so tasty, so for about $10 a meal you can't really go wrong! There was a lot of food and the side dishes were yummy. Being so close to SFU this place is my idea of budget friendly. Bubble 88 is cash only.

I am so happy that there is a bubble tea place in Surrey with Taiwanese food!Service is average, sometimes they can get busy and not come back until your food is up. I do like their fruit slushes but their pearls are not the greatest. I find them a bit too mushy. The popcorn chicken is really good-their curry popcorn chicken has a great spicy kick to it, I love it!I've had their clay pot eggplant (without the pork) and seafood hot pot and enjoyed those as well. The beef noodle soup broth is okay.I return again and again for the popcorn chicken and curry popcorn chicken!

Stopped here after shopping in Central City, since there wasn't anything in the food court that looked appealing.

Had an excellent hot & sour soup, curry fried rice with prawns & broccoli, wontons in chili sauce and a mango bubble slushie. We also ordered veggie steamed dumplings from the dim sum menu, but they weren't as good as the rest of our dishes.

I was incredibly, pleasantly, surprised by this restaurant. The reviews were what persuaded me to try it and I'm very glad I did! From the outside it doesn't look like much but the interior is fantastic and the food was even better! My friend and I ordered the sweet & sour chicken, wonton soup, and the popcorn chicken curry along with the green apple & blueberry bubble teas with pearls. I have to say that personally the sweet and sour chicken was my favourite! It was really nicely breaded - not too thick and very crispy, and the sauce was perfect!!! It wasn't too greasy or too sugary-tasting. I will definitely go back, 100%. I was also very happy with the portions and prices. Very glad I tried it!!!

Bubble 88 has become my favorite bubble tea/food, because it is exactly Taiwanese style. I had a bad experience at other Chinese style bubble tea places, they add something in the food that makes my tonge numb and could not taste the food for a few hours after that. But now I've found this place, will always go here from now on. I always get bubble tea here once every week.

Guess what? I won $109.10 in last week's lotto max!! At first I thought I won 50 million because the first 3 numbers matched...but alas, I did not. *Keep dreaming Selina*.   Anyways, my last final is on Thursday, and after that, I'm FREE!!! I was planning on taking summer courses, but decided against it because I have to spend the entire summer going to allergy treatment sessions. Hey, treating allergies sure beats doing homework!! I might go on vacation though...I'm thinking about booking a trip to Hawaii hehe...we'll see!

My dad and I go to Bubble 88 a lot. He has Bubble 88, Pearl Castle, South Ocean, Hon's, Kent's Kitchen and Tengoku Sushi on rotation. When he's in the mood for Taiwanese food, he'll go to PC or Bubble 88. When he wants Cantonese food, it's either Kent's Kitchen or Hon's. Sushi? Tengoku. And he orders the same thing every.single.time. (Old habits die hard.)

Edit - downgraded to 3.5 after going many more times.

Ice-cream smoothie - don't get it, it's cheap, chalky generic vanilla.

Coffee milk tea - pretty good; the coffee flavour is there but not v strong so a kid could drink it too.

Strawberry Mango Smoothie - our go-to, occasionally inconsistent flavour but other wise v good.

Hokkaido toast w/peanut butter - not mind blowing but quite yummy and fluffy.

Hokkaido toast w/taro - ask for extra taro, they don't put enough. Same review as pb toast.

Green onion pancake - sauce made it good, but the pancake itself is quite mediocre. Not crisp or flaky or flavourful.

Deep fried tofu on hot iron plate with rice - mediocre, the fried tofu had a rather tough skin and there wasn't enough sauce to make up for it.

Deep fried fish fillet with black pepper sauce and noodles - reccomend. I want a little more sauce in the dish, but there fish is really good; tender, not fishy at all.

Deep fried fish fillet with curry and rice - also reccomend. It's not Japanese curry, unfortunately, and neither is it a South Asian curry, but it's good enough and the fish is great.

OG review :

If you're around Surrey Central, try this place out instead of the bubble tea place on the lower level of the mall.

Get your drink "less sweet" as a starting point, and ask for half the amount of ice as well or it'll fill half your cup like mine did.

I had the mango milk tea with pearls, 3/4 sugar ("less sweet"). While it was under the fresh fruit section, there wasn't enough mango flavour. That being said, the milk tea base from here must be great, because the drink was still delicious. The texture was also very smooth. The pearls are smaller than most, but the texture was good and you still get plenty. The price is also a bit cheaper than a regular bubble tea place, and you can pick out a smaller size.

I didn't try out any of the food, so this rating doesn't apply to that.

We've been going to Bubble 88 for a few years now and our "go-to" is the chicken nuggets with curry sauce. Not too sure if there was a change in the back but the curry sauce has changed flavour. The taste is no longer full bodied but more of a single note. Shame.

I have a soft spot for Taiwanese cafes. But I have to admit, they don't serve the best Taiwanese food. But I still really like them. For the most part, you know what you're getting, and predictably can be comforting. Especially since I've developed so many allergies, it's nice to know that I'm not risking an allergic reaction by eating something I'm not familiar with.

I go back to this place all the time for the Popcorn Chicken and Deep Fried Squid Legs!! They are always consistently delicious and are priced really well. If you have ever had the squid from the Richmond Night Market then try it here! It's so much better!

I have been here several times. Each time, the food is good. I've had the rice with deep fried chicken nuggets, the beef noodle soup, the Korean BBQ with rice, the deep fried fish with rice amongst other dishes. The only dish I didn't like was the Pepper beef. That might be my fault as I had never tried a Taiwanese pepper dish before. If you really love black pepper, then you won't have a problem.

Prices are reasonable and I get a kick out of the message on the menus advising "no card playing allowed".

OK on weekdays, but Sunday lunch needs to improve. We've been here 20 times or so. We really like the food, the people etc., but three of the last four times we've been, there have been issues with timeliness, specifically during Sunday lunch.
All three times, we've waited well over 30 minutes, and up to an hour, for our meals. I don't mind waiting, especially when it's busy, but an hour is too long. Two things in particular were disappointing: one order would come (after 30+ minutes), and the second/third would take another 10-20 minutes, by which point the first person would be done; also, other diners that were seated 10-15 minutes later received their food well before we did. I understand how kitchens work, and that sometimes efficiency requires things to be done in a certain order; however, this is pushing the limits.
The food quality/price and service are reasonable, but this timeliness issue needs immediate attention IMHO.

Delicious and clean!. This place is decorated beautifully, and it's always really clean and fresh. The portions are really large, so don't let the prices bother you - it's fair for what you're getting. Great selection in dishes as well. They even have some vegetarian dishes which is rare for Taiwanese bubble joints like this.
The bubble tea here is my favourite, the bubbles are tender and chewy, the perfect consistency. They're also very accommodating with half-sweet and other special requests.
The staff is really friendly, and service is super fast. I come here all the time, and I would highly recommend it.

Great food and drinks but go when it's busy or else it can be hit-or-miss. A few years ago I went on a Tuesday afternoon it was empty and it seemed like the head chef wasn't there so the food was rather disappointing. Some time last year they expanded their menu a bit, but the drink menu is still largely unchanged except a few special drinks listed.

The noodles come in a very large bowl with lots of soup and noodles. The regular noodle soup (eg. the one that you order with fried chicken nuggets or pork chop) is especially good (probably pork bone soup topped with shallot bits). Beef noodle has a great set of ingredients and portion, but the soup is really hit or miss. It tends to be salty and lacking in distinct flavour.  I usually order the spicy beef noodle which costs a bit more and has spicy beef oil which improves the taste. Otherwise you can ask for chilli sauce or chili oil for free. Dry noodle comes in a smaller bowl which gives the impression of a smaller portion, but its pork meat sauce is rather heavy on lard so eat in moderation!

Drinks are always good and reasonably priced. The slush/smoothie tends to be less icy than other places and melts a bit quick, but some people including myself like it this way as there tends to be less unblended ice chunks.
Some new items: Spicy Beef Dry Noodle is excellent, I prefer it to their beef noodle soup. Not particularly spicy, but has a nice garlic taste to it. The only downside is that it is that the sauce is rather heavy on beef lard. Shredded Chicken Cold Noodle was great as well, as the chicken is similar to Hainanese chicken and the peanut sauce is topped with a little bit of garlic (I also recommend adding some chili oil). The House Special Fried Thick Noodle had some good ingredients like shrimp and pork but the sauce was too soupy and slightly too sweet.

Food is tasty and the price is decent. Very close to school, so it's a very nice place to have lunch at. Atmosphere is also very nice and the restaurant is very tidy. My only complaint is that the employees don't speak much English, so it can be very hard to get my order across clearly at times. Other than that, this is a very nice place and is definitely recommended.

Better than I thought. One of the newest and best Bubble tea place in Surrey. This restaurant is located in a obscured location but don't let that fool you. The food is excellent - comparable to most bubble tea/Taiwanese restaurant one would find in Richmond. The environment is clean, spacious and nicely decorated. WIth the limited selection of BBT places in Surrey, this is a must if you live in Surrey,

Highly Recommended. Ever since it opened, I went there multiple times. I always ordered different dishes and loved all of them. The taste of the food was amazing as it was very similar to the food in Taiwan. Strongly recommended there for the food. Drinks can be improved but still not bad! Good service. (Please have milk hotpot onto your menu :P)

I'm a fan of Pearl Castle and Bubble World, and Bubble 88 is really similar! They're a Taiwanese restaurant that specializes in set meals and bubble tea! They also have an extensive drink menu, but since I've been trying to lower my sugar intake as of late haha, I didn't get any! A lot of SFU students come here, with the SFU campus nearby! If you have trouble looking for it, it's in the same plaza as RBC and scotiabank!   I'm not really familiar with the restaurants in Surrey, so if you guys have any recommendations for me, leave them for me down below! :) Claypot Beef Brisket $8.50 Set 3/5 stars   This was a great deal! The pieces of brisket were never ending! In fact, there was so much we ending packing up half of it home (which rarely happens.) The brisket was reasonably tender, with a good ratio of fat. The sauce w

Since I wasn’t too hungry, I just ordered the appetizer popcorn chicken. I love the popcorn chicken here, I think it is because of the basil or bay leaves? that they add in. It reminds me of Tapioca Express’s popcorn chicken. I actually really liked them, and they were not heavily battered or too oily. It was crispy on the outside and SUPER juicy.

Bubble 88 is a Taiwanese restaurant that serves bubble tea and food. They are located very close to the SFU Surrey Campus, so it does draw a lot of traffic from students in the area. It was a long day at school, so a few of us decided to head off to Bubble 88 for some light snacks before heading home. The interior is quite nice with lots of modern decor. It's good for large groups. Coffee Milk Tea with Milk ($2.95) is essentially the coffee and tea mix that you would find in other restaurants. I requested that they use milk instead of the instant milk powder stuff. I tastes so much better and I'm sure much healthier too if you substitute with milk. Deep Fried Squid Tentacles ($4.50) is good! A good amount of seasoning is added to the batter, so when it comes out, its delicious. Wonton in Chili Sauce ($3.95) was not very spicy at all. The others at the table had some too and it was the right amount of spicy. It comes with 10 pieces, which is awesome because places like Bubble World give

Words out that there is a new bubble tea joint in Surrey that is actually decent. Beipas and Dee took me to my first Taiwanese restaurant on my Vancouver trip, and we had dinner at Bubble 88 . We ordered deep fried chicken leg with rice , pop corn chicken with rice , and pineapple shrimp with rice . We also ordered a side of pork belly with garlic sauce and Taiwanese sausages . This restaurant mainly serves taiwanese food, flavours are pretty good, not too far off from authentic Taiwanese. I liked my deep fried chicken leg, the meat was quite thick but the batter was a bit too much for me. There was a decent amount of shrimp in the pineapple shrimp dish. The shrimp and pineapple were coated in a lot of mayo, perhaps a little too much. The pork belly with garlic sauce was very very garlicky. If you love garlic and fatty pork, you will love this dish like Beipas did. We also got 3 different drinks with our order, taro coconut milk tea , lychee slush and soya pudding . The taro

Was craving the spicy beef and tendon taiwanese noodle. The portions were good. I found the broth a bit on the watery side (lacking a little on the flavor side) but the beef and tendon were cooked and marinated well and made up for it. Overall enjoyed the dish. The deep fried tofu was also yum, a bit much on the sauce which softens it a bit. The black pepper beef and onion (with rice) combo was pretty tasty too.

Their beef noodle soup is very tasty. Deep fried squid is very good too. Wish they had some sort of dipping sauce for that. Got takeout order few times from here. Their spicy pork cabbage portion is very small for the price. I don’t know if this was a mistake but won’t be ordering that.

One of the few places that stays open late in the heart of Whalley downtown if you crave for some Chinese food. The menu is quite complicated, I do wish that they have more pictures to help out people who don’t speak the language because some of the dishes are hard to interpret. I was a bit tick off as they serve warm tea instead of hot tea. I did ask for a change which they change promptly afterward. The deep fried tentacles was tasty but a bit overcooked. The 3 Cup braised chicken has a nice wine, ginger flavour which goes well with rice. The spicy fried fish in garlic sauce was not bad too. Each dish do come with sides of rice, pickles and vermicelli noodle. Portion is good and the price is not bad. Give me a thumbs up 👍🏼 If you like my review.

Got the Sea Food Hotpot Combo and Popcorn Chicken. Sea Food Combo was 17 bucks. Popcorn Chicken was 10 bucks. Total was around 30 bucks. It was a 2 person meal. Popcorn Chicken was way too expensive. Not worth it. The portion was small too. I'd say it was worth 7 or 8 bucks. In picture u can see it looks like a lot but that's because the plate has a bigger surface area. Not a whole lot of height or weight in that bowl. Sea Food Hotpot without the combo was $13 bucks. I got the combo. With or without the combo, worth it in my opinion. This pot had height. Worth the buy. Overall quality of food was good! Service was good. 4.5/5! Lost 0.5 because of the Popcorn Chicken price. I have eaten with this restaurant before. That was 2 years or 3 ago. I dont know if it was the waiters or the chef that was making things difficult but everyone got their foods before my table. We waited almost 1h for our food. The restaurant is better now but because of that experience, I'm rounding my score down instead of up. Overall experience, 4/5. Let's see if they keep up the good work next time!

My favourite place for stewed tofu and fried squid. I noticed food quantity has changed since pre-covid and the tofu is much smaller/thin, but still delicious. (Especially the fried squid!) You may notice residue or stains on all the cups, but the server reassured that its from the hot water they use to wash them.

Really good Taiwanese and Chinese style food. The portion is a good size and there is definitely enough to take home. The fried chicken and fried squid were has good flavor. The beef curry brisket also tasted vet good. The dishes I order came with side dishes too, which was nice to have. For the price, it is not bad consider they open late and is the only Taiwanese restuarant in the area. I would recommend this place for lunch or dinner.
