Review Basil On Pho Vietnamese Restaurant - Surrey

Nice and clean restaurant with good prices for big portions! The steak pho was not salty at all and lots of noodles Meatballs tasted a bit rubbery though!

Very disappointing. If I could give zero stars I would. I've been going to pho hoa for years but after today I don't think that I will return. I ordered through skipthedishes and got the beef pho. There was very little raw beef slices and the rest is CLEARLY roast beef lunch meat slices. I've never had such a bad experience with pho. In addition to this quality concern, my special instructions were not followed. I will order pho elsewhere next time. I advise you to do the same.

We were really worried after we had already ordered on DoorDash and THEN looked at the reviews. We don’t usually check reviews after so this was a risk for true foodies like us! But, I’m giving them 5 stars! They were quick and precise on our order. My husband got & liked the pork bahn mi. We shared the popcorn chicken and fried roll, which we each liked as well. Our favorite was our original milk tea with pearls! Price was fine. Taste was good. All meat cooked just right. Tea made great. No problems. Hope this helps Pho Hoa with more traffic! They’re a good Vietnamese spot.

What. happened. Used to come here a lot but recently moved back to the area after a few years. Pho is my go-to when I'm feeling unwell, and while this place has never been amazing it always did the job. Pho broth was inedible (to the point I questioned if it was rancid), meat was so dry and tough, spring rolls oily and soft (plus - 4.50 for ONE?) So disappointed and will not be back.

Ordered a beef pho and a beef vermicelli order to go. The pho was alright, but the raw beef on top seemed just on the cusp of being off. I ate it anyway and definitely dealt with an upset stomach afterwards. I saved the vermicelli for lunch for the next day - it went right into the fridge after pickup. When I reheated it today, it was 100% off and must have been past it's due date when cooked. Absolutely inediible. I had to throw the whole thing out. Very disappointing. Popcorn chicken was good. The spring rolls were good, but small.

I ordered on Door Dash today and am blown away at how disappointing the food was. It was warm when the driver got here but the Vermicelli was all stuck together and a pile of mush. The pork was 95% fat. I had to pick it all out, honestly I couldn’t even eat it. I hate giving bad reviews but please take your money else where to avoid the disappointment.

Ordered from here using Uber Eats. The Pho was very good, and packed well. It was the perfect dinner for a blustery evening. We will definitely order again.

The won ton soup broth was absolutely delicious, the won tons tasted home made, and the veggies were fresh and flavourful. The salad rolls were great. The portions in the bowls we ordered were generous and the cucumber/lettuce/carrot salad were crunchy fresh. Top points for taste, freshness and appetizing appearance. The waitress was really friendly, they seemed to be doing a brisk phone in/take out business, and we'll be going back again, especially for the won ton soup.

The downside is there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant so other than taking our order and bringing tea once, we didn't see her again until we were finished. Also, the soup came out right before the other food so by the time we finished the soup, the bowl food was cold.

The food was excellent. Everything from the bahn mi, to the pho, grilled meats and the salad rolls. Flavours and texture were top notch. We would definitely come again.

Basil on Pho is now the new restaurant that's taken over the old Mekong River Reataurant. New ownership, not just a name change.
I've eaten a lot Pho over the years and can tell good broth (with proper stewing techniques) from generic quickie broth. This restaurant certainly uses good home style broth and nice textured noodles. The meat used isn't too chewy and the meal overall was good. I'll probably be coming back again and would recommend this restaurant to others.

Good!. Very affordable, yet large portions and tasty food. Not very attentive service, often have to wait for waitress to come out from busing/kitchen area, but always cheerful. I enjoy the decor, some beautiful paintings and murals I could stare at while at lunch on my own.

Good, quick and polite service. Food was tasty and would definitely go back. We ordered the shrimp salad rolls along with the beef Pho and it was almost too much food.

Favourite PHO Go To Place. I've always enjoyed pho from time to time and this place makes it that much easier to get my hands on a bowl. The pho and its soup base has never failed to impress me and the portions are very generous. I particularly enjoy the traditional pho. The service is always friendly and quick and I'd gladly give this place two thumbs up.

Growing up and being lucky enough to have authentic Cambodian and Vietnamese foods all my life, River Mekong is where I go for home cooked South East Asian Dishes.

The price is extremely reasonable if you consider you are in White Rock. The inside decor is full of carvings and painting from Cambodia. Their menu is full of pictures an very easy to understand.

I have spent a fair share of time traveling in South East Asia and I can tell you they are probably one of the only places you can get a bottle of Tiger Beer leading to the fact they are a licenses restaurant.

Come in hungry because the portions are generous.

What I love the most is, if you visit twice within 5 days and your bring your receipt, you get a nice discount on your bill ( look at your receipt for the rules.

I am sure I will see you there as I frequent this place often!

Good Enough. Big Pho fan, was delighted when this place opened up in the old fish and chips place in uptown White Rock. The decor is still tacky but most good noodle houses spend more money on the food that the place. Have been here a few times and keep heading back as it is the only place to get Vietnamese slash Cambodian food on the peninsula. Not a destination restaurant by any means. Much less expensive in Richmond and Vancouver. I like the beef ball pho and here they slice them into thirds and maybe only give you three balls total in a small size ($8). Broth is good and clear, spring roll are amazing. Tried the Cambodian soup just yesterday and the both is much fuller and not clear. Full of bits of seafood and fish balls. Service is wonderful and attentive.

Very generous portions of chicken and rice. Had chicken with rice for $9. Great big piece of chicken and biggest portion of rice I have ever had at an Asian restaurant. I am a big eater and I was full when I left. Also tried a bit of the chicken curry and it was very flavorful.

Had the Cambodian special soup with rice noodles, was wonderful and very cheap $8. Very good service, will return.

A welcome cuisine to S. Surrey. I don't know of any Vietnamese restaurant in South Surrey. In Richmond, they're plentiful, they're cheap, have decent food but cleanliness leaves much to be desired.

Then opens up River Mekong on 152nd and about 17th ave. And it's a wonderful option. My biggest beef with South Surrey is it's dining options - what's here is few and not much of it is worth the price of admission. River Mekong (and a handful of others) is an exception. Great food, I mean, really fantastic food has made this a go to spot for eat in or take out for my family.

Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine - I believe the owners are from Cambodia. The downside? Prices and portions are not what I'm used to. In Richmond or Vancouver, Pho is cheap and huge. In most cases, overly salty or lacking in depth. Then there are some places that serve up a really tasty bowl and very cheap price. River Mekong has half of that formula - but considering it takes me 30 minutes to Richmond, I'll save the gas and dine here.

Pho wise - it's slightly different. It has a cleaner/purer taste to it. It took adjusting to but I really prefer their Pho to any other's I've had. Anyway, let's of space of dine in, staff is on top of things and friendly. Prices are, as mentioned, a little higher than normal but hey, so is every other place in south surrey so you might as well get good food with it.

Pho soup. After reading the reviews we decided to try it b/c it was close and like others said a couple of $ more on the soup, but with the price of gas, it was a good choice. the service was fast and very very friendly! the food was as good as any other pho restaurant, our broth was clear, there was plenty of meat as far as we were concerned. yes there was lemon instead of lime, but we don't add it anyhow, so made no difference to us. the salad rolls were quite full of lettuce, i prefer more variety of shredded veggies, but they were tasty and fresh. it is still an economical healthy and delicious way to go! enjoy!

A little unclear. So I would say the pho is a medium on the scale of good to bad, first off they serve lemon instead of limes in the garnish, which sucks....and the broth is not hot enough. The broth should be clear as it indicates good cooking, there broth is milky and has floties in it. The way to clear broth is to rinse the bones after boiling them. Thanks

Good food...so-so prices. This review is based on eating there once, and trying the pho, some salad rolls, and spring rolls on vermicelli.

Food quality was good. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst, either. I would be happy to eat there again, based solely on the food.

Service was friendly and efficient.

Prices, not so great. I'm a budget diner, and the majority of pho places I eat at are very inexpensive. $9 for a large bowl of pho is quite a bit more than I'm used to paying ($7.25 or so). The pho could've used a little more meat, too.

On the other hand, this is the ONLY pho place in White Rock / South Surrey. The closest pho place I really like is Pho Stanley, up in North Delta (although I now see there is one in Langley as well). So, considering the gas required to drive to North Delta or Langley, I suppose River Mekong isn't as expensive as it sounds. It's conveniently close so I know we'll eat there again. But if they can knock the prices down a bit closer to what other pho places are charging, I'll feel better about eating there.

River Mekong Restaurant specializes in Vietnamese cuisine. There aren't many options in White Rock, and this is the best choice. I’ve been to River Mekong a few times now, and have tried quite a few of their dishes. This time, we started with the Sandwich, and the Spring Roll. The sandwich comes on a nice crusty french bread with lemon grass chicken, ripe avocado, lettuce, onions and mayo. The bread was nice and crunchy, with a soft inside. The chicken was really tender and flavourful and the avocado buttery. I ordered the Beef Stew, and Beipas ordered the Flat Noodles with Seafood, dry. You can order the beef stew with rice, noodles, or french bread, but this time I chose the noodles. And it came with a lot! There were plenty of chunks of beef, some fatty and tender, some a bit firmer. The stock was rich, and a bit salty. I think French bread would have been my preferred option. It was nice to have on a fairly cold fall day. Beip
