We don’t wind up out in Surrey very often so I’m usually at a loss of where to go to grab some good grub. On a recent October weekend, we found ourselves out in the Whalley area and decided to try out Nahm Thai Bistro. As is usually the case with us, the Google Maps information told us that it should have been open but their actual opening time was a half hour later (darn you Google!). Since we didn’t know what else was around the neighbourhood, we just decided to wait until they opened.
I’m in love with Thai food! The place is neat and quiet. Food is okay! Servers should be trained to welcome or at least greet the guests. Food serving takes time and they need to attend to customers’ needs too while dining.
Best Thai food in Surrey! Amazing flavor, great service and the place is very clean. This is our go-to Thai place and everyone we've brought to this place loves it!
Outstanding service and food. I am a regular here. It is the best Thai food I have ever eaten in my life. The women who runs the restaurant is an absolute delight! She is so kind and welcoming. I am a vegan, and and they make amazing vegan vegetable curries. I notably love the red curry! Everyone I have brought here has loved it! It is also a fantastic date spot. I am a huge foodie and restaurant goer, and this is hands down not only the best restaurant in Surrey, but the best in all of the lower mainland for a multitude of reasons! You will not be disappointed!
Food is good, friendly staffs.. but price is a little bit expensive, they take quite long to prepare food!! We go here because it's close to home. Sure there are many other better options for Thai.
Love the curry with brown rice, hoping to come back and try the pad Thai and spring rolls. Much left to try!! My boyfriend got the chicken satay which were vey delicious but I wish they came in bigger portions or sizes. Service was alright, they messed up on my rice, as I did ask for brown rice and they brought me coconut rice. Love the variety of rice that they have, especially for a healthier alternative to white rice.
My Fiance and I typically will come here during dinner hours (take-out)...the basil fried rice is delicious and one of my favorites. I usually get the Pad Thai but at times it can be a bit oily but it's still good. The sweet and sour stir fry is also pretty tasty. This place is definitely worth checking out. Don't be too quick to judge first time around and give this place a true chance, its delicious.
Love their Pad Thai. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I wish I didn't live so far away from them! The portion is big which makes it great for sharing (unless you have a big appetite).
Excellent Thai food, especially compared to what the rest of Surrey has to offer. Their red and yellow curries are to die for. The decor is modern and clean and the staff are all friendly. There are better Thai restaurants in Vancouver but not much that compares out here!
Good food, good service. No complaints. Took my mom there for Thai for the first time and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Surrey.
Very well flavored food.y entire family liked it from the non spice liking to the very spicey loving. Great service.
Omg do we ever love this place. Ordered the house noodle with beef. Such good flavours. The spring rolls are decent. The pad Thai isn't the best but definitely quality ingredients. Overall very happy to have this Thai restaurant in our neighbourhood!!
I'm so glad that my partner and I finally decided to go in here. The food is soooo good. We ordered 4 entrees, Prawn Res Curry, Royal Thai Fried Rice, Chicken Satay and Mixed Seafood stirfry. It was all delicious, the flavours were rich and original. We can't wait to go back and try more.
Excellent, casual/up-scale restaurant for Surrey (just what it needs!). My fiance and I are fortunate to live not too far from nahm Thai. The food is great; as well- the service is prompt, polite, and they have have some great dish recommendations.
I am not a rice or seafood fan, but the serving staff had made some great recommendations and I've been introduced to my favourite dish, pad see ew, because of them.
Tips:
Spring rolls. They are very good, they have nice wrapping and filling. The blanket, and wings are also very delicious
Deep fried banana with pistachio and mango icream.
Order a driftwood alt bier. The price is steep but maybe they'll see the interest in having a good beer list at a reasonable 6.75$ beer if anyone does their part and orders an alt bier each. Ask for Fat Tug and they may just have some hiding ...
Pad See Ew.
Royal Thai Rice (with coconut rice)
Pad Thai.
Green or red curry (they are both so very good and pleantiful)
LOVE IT!!. I come here every week to have my usual fav, Fish Pad Thai with Vegetables which is a dish I made up. Other favorites are the Stuffed Chicken Wings, Nahm Thai Wings, Grilled Beef and Thom Kha Kai. I heard that they are revising a new menu with new yummy items so I can't wait to try those when it happens. Dishes are moderate, Pad Thai is a good portion at $12 and can be shared between 2 people. Servers are excellent, decor is fabulous and clean. A diamond in the rough in Whalley.
We always get pick up orders from Nahm- red curry chicken in a favourite. Good portion sizes, decent prices for quality food, and very tasty!
First visit and got the pad thai. Pretty bland a bit below average and portion was ok so I did not think price was worth it. My friend got the chicken with spinach and a bowl of jasmine rice and it was delicious. She could barely finish her food. Service was fine, friendly. Would be stopping by again to make final decision about the place.
Good food, good service, meh price. Went here with couple of relatives and the place wasn't busy. the waitress seated and served us right away so that was a plus. our food came at a decent time and tasted pretty good. price was decent but a little on higher end of decent. could get more food for a lot less at nearby T&T or Bubble 88 but the taste was definitely worth it. i'll definitely come back just not so often.
nice interior design and good place to take your spouse/bf/gf/etc on a date :)
DELICIOUS FOOD and very friendly service. Classy modern atmosphere, tastefully decorated. Can accommodate a crowd or be an intimate evening out for two. Hurry in to enjoy this wonderful restaurant.
Better than Thai House downtown. Had the lunch combos - very tasty.
Good food. Just pricey for the portion. Not a great place to go w a group of ppl to share. Very contemporary atmosphere. Would like to see some more Thailand influence in their decor. Otherwise great food!
Hands down, this place has the best Thai food in town.... Its a "must eat"
Clean, good service and great food. I recommend the red curry chicken!!
Finally - GREAT Thai food in Surrey. Love this place. May be pricey to some, but to me - well worth it. Food is excellent and restaurant impeccably clean and modern. Owner and servers are super nice and remember the names of their repeat customers!
The Papaya Salad is tangy and refreshing! The Grilled beef and chicken are great starters with the sauce that accompanies the dish. The Basics like Pad Thai, Yellow and Red Curries -- very good and deliciously spicy. The Panang (we ordered chicken) was perfect and enough for two with rice and an appie. I ordered off the menu - been craving a dish called Pad Kee Mao that I once had in San Francisco and when asked, they made it for me! So impressed that the owner was willing to take a special request like that. Wish they offered Pineapple Fried Rice and will request that next time.
I go back just to try a different dish. The ambiance is great and the food is amazing. I constantly refer my friends to this restaurant for good local eats.
The atmosphere of this place can be very intimidating to go in as the plain white walls, trendy white leather booths/chairs with modern bubble-like tiered lights may appear too upscale and not family friendly. This decor is not something you would expect from a Thai resto. However, once you go in.. All the staff are so nice and welcoming . I'm always a believer in supporting small, non franchise family owned businesses. The menu items that I've tried are so flavorful and fresh. I love spicy food so if you can stand heat, order the papaya salad and get them to make it spicy! And also the Tom yum soup is amazing. I can agree with other commenters that the price is a little high for the area that it is located in (whalley) which may be a drawback for people to return.
High quality food, very clean place and good service. Met my friend Charles for lunch there and found everything excellent. The lunch plate may look a little small when it comes out and I was thinking it could use some more rice and my buddy actually said it but by the end of the meal it really was just the right amount of everything. It was nice to not be overly full after the meal. I'll be going back for sure. It really is quality over quantity and worth the extra $2.
Great food and clean establishment. I just drove from UBC to eat here and it was worth the drive!
I was there on a rainy January 2 evening. The restaurant interior was spotlessly clean, was modernly furnished and had excellent visibility from tall glass windows. The service was personable and friendly. Food was excellent by comparison to other Thai restaurants I have frequented. Would definitely recommend and revisit.
Sooo Good.. Nahm Thai exceeded all expectations. Clean, nice atmoshere inside, friendly staff and most important amazing food. I could not say anything bad about this place and that is so rare for me. Everything I have tried has been 9 out of 10 or better. Just make sure when you order tell the waitress what heat level you like because ordering off the menu is not that hot so I always tell her to raise up the heat on all dishes.
Great Thai Food. Tried this restaurant after driving by and being intrigued. The decor is modern and clean, we really like the floor treatment. Service was fantastic, and the food even better. We had two appies and four entrees followed by the fried bananas. The appies were the right size for 4people and were cooked well with fresh ingredients, the mains arrived in a timely fashion and were once again cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of heat for us. With drinks for all it was $25.00 per person, a perfectly acceptable prIce for a restaraunt of this caliber. We are looking forward to returning and trying the lunch menu
Love this place!! It's brand new, cozy and very nice & friendly staff. The food is absolutly amazing! Yum! They take so much pride in the look of it too.. my dish had a carrot cut into a flower! So neat :)
Like the food not the price. Came to this new thai restaurant on the recommendation of my client, who actually works at another thai restaurant.. we won't name names haha! what he told me was, "the food is pretty good but the prices are high for the portion size and location (whalley)".
the food. we enjoyed all but one dish that was served to us, which is usually my favorite, pad thai. it was sweet, bland and too dry, in my opinion... which was a shame because that's what i came for. satays were delicious, tender, and well seasoned. veggie spring rolls were tasty as well but just like any other spring roll you could find anywhere else. we had fried rice which was very good!! have to compliment the chef with that one... btw, like the other reviewer said, rice is not included which is too bad but give the fried rice a try... a nice blend of seasoning and not at all oily. also had another dish that i can't recall the name of that had sauteed veggies, choice of meat, and cashews... sooo good!!! plus a curry that was really good too but the size of a large cup of soup (yes large cup not bowl!) overall, taste of the food was great but portions small. you will NOT get full from ordering just one entree.
the drinks... cocktails were strong and reasonably priced. also recommended.
the service... the servers are almost always visible and ready to help you but what happened to service with a smile? service is polite but most definitely not friendly. also noticed that our server really didn't know much about the menu and had to refer back to the menu whenever we asked something.
ambience... is very modern & cool... refreshing yet sterile... but i still liked it. did not appreciate the state the of the single unisex bathroom tho. wouldn't have cared if it was just the unfinished floor but on top of the unfinished section of the floor, there was 2 pieces of random hardware lying on it.
friendlier service and adjusting the entree sizes would keep me coming back. but yes, i will give it another try in the next couple months.
Excellent that curries, great food seems almost out of place In this area. Sort of a downtown Vancouver feel
House special noodles are really spicy but is delicious. Thai iced tea tastes kind of like hk milk tea while the mango shake is nice and creamy, it really helped sooth the spiciness from the noodles =]
Finally, I can get awesome Thai food without having to go to a different city! Try the red curry chicken! You will not regret it. Next time, the girlfriend and I will have to dine-in!
It is a new and trendy looking place... Few and very far between in Whalley. The food is really good and reasonably priced. However, it tookover an hour to get served. It was during the end of lunch hour that we finally started seeing our orders arrive one plate at a time. I was told by my friends who had dined there before the wait was not this bad. I hope not. I will try it again, but if the service does not speed up I will not be back. If it does, it may be my new go- to place.
Great addition to the nieghbourhood. Ever since the closing of Full Moon Thai/Laos Restuarant in Whalley, a new restaurant resurrected, NAHM Thai Bistro. It is a block from work and wanted to try it out over the weekend. I went with a few friends and family.
We were greeted by the waiter, Art. Warm friendly, attentive thoughout dinner.
We ordered the pad thai noodles, thai house noodle special, fried rice, green curry, red panaang curry. For appetizers, we ordered the papaya salad (oh to die for! my mouth is watering now), shrimp cocktail and thai calamari which came with a mint chutney (who would have thought?) All dishes were prepared fresh as the veggies still had a crunch to them, indicating it was freshly cooked. The curries were thick not runny like some other thai variations i've tried in the past.
The ambience is modern, bright open windows for natural lighting, white leather furniture seating, calm lightening, clean and fresh.
This place is a definate favorite Thai place in the neighbourhood.
Overall, I would say this restaurant has great value when considering its service, ambience and food.
They have been open only for five months or so, but they are already causing quite the stir. I needed to see for myself what the buzz was all about. This place is getting a reputation for good quality, authentic Thai cuisine at reasonable prices. The restaurant is very beautiful: Lots of natural light, white leather chairs and glass chandeliers to name a few of the features. Everything is so clean and bright and new. We decided to share three dishes between us - two stir fries and a curry. We ordered the Beef Green Curry ($13), the Sweet and Sour Chicken ($12) and the Thai Spicy Eggplant ($12) The Green Curry was very creamy, with a rich coconut taste and a hint of spice. It was delicious. Just the right amount of bell peppers and bamboo shoots and basil leaves. It came with a steaming bowl of Jasmine rice. My favorite
Nahm Thai Bistro is a newish Thai restaurant in Whalley. My brother had been a week or two earlier, and said it was pretty good but a bit pricey. Looking at the menu, they kind of are. Most appies were $9, and the mains were $10 and up. To start, we ordered Chicken Lettuce Wrap ($9), and also Stuffed Chicken Wings ($9). The chicken lettuce wrap was delicious with diced chicken and vegetables served with crispy fried rice noodles. Nice sweet flavours, and good textures. Tender chicken, and lots of crispiness, and fresh lettuce. I just wish they dried the lettuce a bit more. It was quite wet, and it diluted the sauce a bit. At least we know they at least rinsed the lettuce I guess. The Stuffed Chicken wings were OK. I'm not sure how you really stuff a chicken wing, but they were. I guess they took out the bones, and stuffed it with some mushrooms, and noodles. I appreciate that they made their own sweet chili sauce. It was a lot thinner than what you would get in a bottle, and
