Review Round Up Cafe - Surrey

An excellent diner with 60 years of history owned by the same family. Very cozy and warm! The breakfast was excellent and would like to thank Tanya who provided us with excellent service and care. Looking forward to coming for lunch or dinner soon!

Looks sketchy from the outside, it isn't. This 50's themed diner has a cozy atmosphere and is filled with people from the 1950's and college students alike. It's a fairly busy place for being so small but there isn't a wait. The food is really good and I would recommend the Eggs Benedict. The floor is very diner-like, it differs in height in many places so there aren't stairs but there are different levels. There is a central seating area which is very reminiscent of diners from the 1950's. The washrooms are small but clean, just like the restaurant.

First time to this restaurant and we were not disappointed with the traditional home cooked breakfasts. I tried the Turkey dinner and it was okay. I couldn't order all white meat so it was a mix of dark and white. The meat was thinner slices and a little dry. The stuffing was a little too soggy. The gravy on the mashed potatoes and the turkey was excellent. The carrots tasted liked they just came out of the garden! The neighborhood may look a little sketchy but dont let that deter you from going here, we loved it. The service was excellent as well, older staff who know what customer service is all about!

My favorite little place right now every since my coworker introduced me to it. Everyone I have taken here has loved it! The burgers are so delicious & taste freshly made & juicy! The breakfast is drool worthy & their turkey dinner tastes as though my mom made it at home. Real stuffing, none of that fake processed grey stuff people refer to as stuffing! SOOOO good. The servers are always so nice & the food comes out at a good pace even when they are busy.

This is a little gem of a breakfast shop on King George! Very traditional and I loved it. The portion is good and the food delicious. Brought my parents there and they enjoyed is also. The only problem I had was that there were a couple flies flying around but we're experiencing a heat wave so there's that. Will definitely come back!

Decent old school brunch food with local crowd. No frills and authentic Surrey atmosphere. I enjoyed it!

Quick service. Decent prices. Okay food. The place is a little outdated but I think this place has been here for like 40 years. Had eggs benny and husband had a burger. Would recommended this if you go here.

This place has the absolutely best borscht around. Definitely made with love I highly recommend this place. Everything else I have had on the menu has also been great not to mention the service is very friendly great job

Very surprised. I wouldn't I have gone into this place on my own accord, but I told my boyfriend this morning that I wanted a place to get "a heavy, greasy, breakfast that will be unhealthy for my body but deeply spiritually satisfying". This place definitely delivered, and the eggs Blackstone were delicious.

Probably the best coffee I have had in a long time, also a huge fan of the food and the quality of the Bacon! Highly recommend, we stop in everytime we have to go to SMH.

I have been planning on visiting Round Up Cafe for some time, finally was able to go. Very kewl 1950s style family owned restaurant, great atmosphere and plenty of nostalgia. My lunch was amazing, large portions, great price. The staff was helpful and friendly. This is exactly what I came for :-) Awesome experience, I will visit again.

What a great idea to take Mom for breakfast to Round Up Cafe. It brought back memories for her from her youth days. Our breakfast was great and just the like the home cooked meal I was looking for :-)

When I phoned to check when the Round Up closed I was immediately impressed with the warm and friendly woman's voice on the other end of the line. There was also a friendly greeting from the woman (who told me she was new there) who served me. The food is modestly priced and plentiful--and they have real pan fries, not so easy to find anymore. It's no wonder the place has thrived since 1949, it has vintage charm, is clean and with good food and service. It's a winner. Go check it out for yourself...

I used to go there regularly for about 10 years, prior to my moving away. Arguably, this is one of the best places to eat in the lower mainland. Great food, friendly staff and comfortable surroundings.

Have lived in the neighbourhood for years, and never miss an opportunity to bring friends or out of town guests here for great eats! We love the food, the staff and the atmosphere....whalley can be tough... but we love this local gem!

Great home style foods & very nice staff. We have been here many times over the past 5 years.

Greasy spoon is the right word. Greasy eggs, greasy sausage, greasy potatoes, flat toast and possibly one of the worst neighbourhoods in BC. Bring Tums. Should be called the Last Roundup.

It's really nice to know that places like this exist. They've done a great job of preserving the diner feel to the place. When I say "preserve"I mean it. This place has clearly been here since the beginning and it has a loyal following to prove it. I love how they keep traditional fare on the menu like perogies and Ukrainian Sausage.

In true diner fashion, you leave full and satisfied. One of the best (non-ironic) diners around. Period.

The Round Up Cafe is a throwback to the 50s. Real corned beef, real hashbrowns, real food, what's not to like? A great place for brekky. You should stop. We're glad we did. Four thumbs up. Karl & Lana.

Homestyle Cooking. Yummy homestyle cooking with friendly service and a fun retro feel. I've never been disappointed.

Realizing Round-Ups a Rousing Retro Real Eatery. As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I take a look at my life And realize there’s nothin’ left
(As I made my way down through Whalley to get to the Round-Up Cafe, I felt okay knowing my bank account was nearing depletion, as the Girlfriend said she’d pay [I know! How did I manage that?!])

‘Cause I’ve been blastin’ and laughin’ so long that, Even my mama thinks that my mind is gone
(Well, with that being said, the place is your typical greasy spoon, so it’s pretty cheap and has some good homemade type grub)

But I ain’t never crossed a man that didn’t deserve it Me be treated like a punk, you know that’s unheard of
(But realistically, how can you go wrong with a mom and pops type place? You know, 9 out of 10 you’re in for some good stuff.)

You betta watch how ya talking And where ya walking Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk
(Honestly, when it comes to greasy spoons, they’re usually all good, all you really need is the confidence to enter the doors, I mean, the parking lots full, the place is usually packed, that probably means the place is pretty good, so, walk on in man.)

....read more at
https://davesobieski13.wordpress.com/2014/11/26/realizing-round-ups-a-rousing-retro-real-eatery/

Staff overwhelmed, watery coffee and ok eggs/toast. The whole dinner had one server, with an additional bus girl, is simply not adequate to serve a full house, even without any line up, the server is already running like a headless chicken; forgetting to refill coffees, bills, and even forgetting orders. We waited 5 minutes for our menus to arrive and another 10 minutes to get our order in, which is fine, but it all went downhill after that. It took 40 minutes for the lone server to realize she totally forgot to put in our order, and she was asking what our orders are, since she had lost track on her notepad. Mean while, I had to go to the serving station to get a coffee refill, because she is so busy running around, dropping utensils on the floor and mixing up other customers' orders. Another 10 minutes went by until we finally had our orders. I don't know what to expect when the food came, our party is fairly hungry by then, so as long as we have food on the table, we are happy. Under less than 15 minutes, we finished our meal, no longer hungry, but not full either. It was disappointing, food was acceptable at best with standard french toast, over easy eggs and forgettable egg Benedicts, the portions are standard, and service is very underwhelming. While it is a clean restaurant, there really isn't much of an atmosphere to speak of. May be the server is the owner, she is too busy for me to ask, but either way, having one server on a Sunday morning is simply asking for trouble, and the bad experience I had was the result. This place is very close to home, but unfortunately for what we had, I will not be going back.

We almost had breakfast there today! After waiting 26 min in the returant with 10ppl in it; we left after discovering that our meal had not been started yet. I have been there before and it was good, in fact the service was really good considering it was a full house... Unfoutunatly that was not our experiance this time. I will try it again but was quite dissapointed today. We went to Purple lotus instead where service has never dissapointed in the 30-40 times I've been there.

Just what you would expect :). Old school diner. nothing fancy, old school charm with the glossy glittery booth seating. fun little place, reasonably priced, and friendly service, accommodating to our dietary restrictions. very fluffy pancakes/hot cakes. thanks for an enjoyable early morning breakfast date with my bf :)

Went here for the first time. Will come back. Had the eggs Bennie & my husband had the grand slam. Enjoyed both dishes. Service is good - she topped off our coffees and gave our bill right away.

Not what it once was. I used to quite enjoy this spot and went there at least three times a month when I worked in the area. I've went back with a friend a couple of times lately and it has just gone downhill. Quality of food/preparation especially and also the value which let's face it, is what many folks would like when they stop by a diner. My eggs were pretty terrible. They also seem to be letting the charm of the place slowly wane. Service was adequate even though it takes some time to try and get the bill paid.

Round up is a Timeless Classic. Great diner! Relaxed atmosphere and good food. I wasn't too sure about going there when I drove by because outside the restaurant is not the greatest, but inside the place is good. Clean, simple and timeless. Looking forward to going there again soon and taking other friends who can appreciate a decent diner too.

What a gem! Hidden in Whalley is an amazing spot. Great food, fast service and friendly staff

Locals love it. This is one of those hole in the wall places that the locals know about and keep it packed. Consistantly excellent quality food, great service, even really decent parking front and back. Its one of my favorite places to go.

OLD SCHOOL DINER. The Round Up could be my favourite spot for a classic diner breakfast. Even though the place is always packed , the service is always bang on. I like the authentic old fashioned diner feel of the place with booth seating and whatnot. The Round Up has been there a long time & is a bit of a landmark for the neighbourhood. Check it out.

It’s easy to see why the Round-Up Café has lasted 63 years. It isn’t the best flavor or the best of anything, really. It’s just plain good.

Round-up Cafe is one of Surrey's icons. It's been in the centre of the town since 1959 and is still kicking ass. Families, friends, local politicians and baseball teams (I presume) frequent this little gem in the sketchy neighbourhood of Whalley - for its ambience in combination with its wholesome food and decent prices. The diner also recently snatched up a Surrey's Green City Award for their practices in reducing waste, increasing composting, conserving energy, saving water, and purchasing for local, family-owned farms. It's located on King George Highway, but has a decent size parking lot in the back. The backdoor was sketchy, but when I entered the diner, I was in awe at how clean, classic and quaint the diner's interior was. My friend ordered the eggs benny, while I went for a Bench Warmer (six perogies, ukranian sausage, two eggs and toast.) The eggs were poached just right (for the benny), grease factor was balanced well, and everything was portioned perfectly! The verdict? Gre
