Review On Yuen Resturant - Surrey

Nice family run restaurant and food is quick and really good. Oh don’t forget they are closed Wednesday and close daily 2-4:30 But real good every time we have gone and my wife is a very picky eater.

Great covid response properly verifying the passport. Food was amazing and arrived very fast. The server was friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back and recommend it to friends.

Ordered Chicken Fried rice, found traces of chicken, honey garlic chicken was so chewy, frozen breaded stuff, noodles dish was okay. Owner was nice. But for restaurants what to do with owner, food needs to be 5 star, sorry to give 3 star. Actually deserves 2. One extra for good behaviour! Price wise quantity was also not great.

Just moves into the area and tried the closest Chinese restaurant. Asked for their best fish, chop suey, prawn and fried rice dishes. Usually the `house special` is their specialty /signature dish.. Lived in Richmond for years where they have every level of Chinese restaurant. So, the service was quick and the quality was barely better than food curt Chinese food. Seriously flavorless. I`m not sure where this place ranks in Surrey, but, would be very near the bottom in Richmond. $100+ was a big mistake.

Got a meal for 1 box for $15. Thankfully, we didn’t buy more than that. The fried rice was bland and the remainder of the food wasn’t that tasty. There were more noodles packed inside than the rest. The amount of food for the price point, it’s not worth it. It should be maximum $8 for that amount of food. Staff were nice though.

Food was meh that’s all that can be really said. Sweet and sour chicken was soggy with no flavour and a particularly small portion for the $20 I paid for it. Chow mein tasted microwaved seaweed again with a wet soggy taste to it. Not totally unhappy as it was still edible but won’t be returning that’s for sure..

Been almost 20 years since I'd been here last. Great authentic food. Good to see Eric and his wife still working hard to serve a great meal!

Some dishes are tasty, but portions are a bit small and not much meat. Knowing their lunch specials don't have much meat I wanted to order an only meat dish special for lunch. I ordered Garlic spicy porkchop, and it is below standard compared to other restaurants in Vancouver or Richmond. That is not what I would even call porkchops, more like small nuggets.

Disappointed in take out servings being cut down by about 1/2 the amount.   Prices increased and serving sizes cut.   No more fortune cookies thrown in.   Food was a little too salty and not enough sauce was provided for one dish.   Only good thing was that it was fast.

Live nearby On Yuen, have been going for 10+ years. My husband & his friend would go all the time for the great Won Ton soup. We have dined in a number of times as well as ordered in. My husband has been in VGH & GF Strong for the past 5 months so have not had an opportunity to order in or go to the restaurant. Tonight had the chance to order in - food was great. Unfortunately the price and quantity have changed drastically. Ordered 4 dishes + 30 won ton & 4 spring rolls for $81.40. The take out bowls are so small now barely fed 4 people, called to inquire and was told that is standard. Sad too not be able to support a local place. Dragon Chop Suey locally is much better value. Sorry Eric you were always so pleasant.

best chicken almond ive ever had anywhere always friendly service and the egg fried rice and sweet and sour pork always warm and delicious .......never complain to your waiter  .......or the cook will spit in your food ........a word to the wise

Ordered from this place this evening and it was disgusting and COLD! The portion sizes were extremely small too. Such a waste of money. We called to make a complaint to get an "ok bye" response. Won't ever order from here again and strongly recommend people to avoid eating at on yuen restaurant!

Based on the high rating, we ordered from On Yuen and was thoroughly disappointed in the quality and quantity of the portions. <br/><br/>The VERY expensive scallops with green peppers in black bean sauce was horrible; came with green beans, not sure the scallops were even seafood and the sauce was a pastey substance with a few scattered black beans.<br/><br/>The portions were certainly under served and wouldn't have fed a family of four! Two small pieces of special foo yung, more vegetables than sweet & sour pork. Deep fried wonton was more pastry than not. The accompanying sauces were half filled!<br/><br/>The bill was near $100 and better food was to be had at the local mall's food court!!!

Very friendly service - one of the best experiences at a Chinese restaurant I've had. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre. I find mall chinese food better tasting - ready made and all. Even MSG couldn't save these dishes. Very disappointed at the food. I don't know how others rated so high.

We have dined in, picked up and had it delivered, and the service was always very reliable and friendly. The food is always very good. The interior of the restaurant is reflective of an efficient family operation, not fine dining, aesthetically basic.

I admit I basically have zero expertise about Chinese food. It isn't something I've eaten a lot. <br/><br/>We ordered spicy chicken, chicken with cashew, and beef with broccoli. The kids added plain fried rice and plain chow mein, plus spring rolls and sliced bbq pork. <br/><br/>I found everything delicious except for the fried rice was just too plain, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the bbq pork. My favorite was probably the plain chow mein, actually. My wife found everything bland except the spicy chicken. She speculated that maybe she only likes American fried Chinese food?<br/><br/>The proprietor was amazing friendly and attentive. He gave our kids take out boxes full of fortune cookies, translated some Chinese wall art for my son, and continually checked in. From his interactions with other customers (many of the regulars), this seemed to be the norm. <br/><br/>I would probably go back, but what should I order? I have no idea!

Over and over again ! This place is consistent . Good food , good prices and good service! Thank you - On Yuen!! Your seafood hot and sour soup says it all!

I like this place a lot, the service is fast and friendly. The food is always hot and good. Wifi is available, They take cards and cash. I personally like the honey spare ribs, hot and sour soup and the beef Galan. And its ready really fast.

We've been dining/ordering from here for over 20 years. My kids were small when we lived in the neighbourhood. Now, even though we're not in the neighbourhood, it's still very worthwhile ordering from here. The lettuce wraps are the best in Surrey, the rest of the food is consistently good. I've never been disappointed with this place.

There was a time in the late 90's when the transition between "Chinese Canadian" and proper "Chinese Food" happened.  In that perios there was a mix of decnet and worfully substandard choices on a lot of menus.  Sadly, On Yuen seems stuck in this transition.  While some great choices are on offer, they are poorly executed.  Take for example, Beef "Chop Suey" along with Salted fish and Diced Chicken Fried Rice.  <br/><br/>This is a place that I want to like but just can't maybe a bit of updating would go a long way.

Best in town. Top notch chinese food, best in Surrey ,always fast delivery, always friendly people . Anybody who gives this place a bad review best just give up on chinese food altogether .

Mehhh. People were super nice. Food was old tasting. Maybe if your going into it expecting a cheap lunch special then its perfect. But if you expect great to ok Chinese food your in for disappointment. But again, the staff was sooo nice and attentive. I wish them further success, yet it was just not what we were looking for. Why cant surrey have one good chinese restaurant. Grrrrr

A culinary standard. I have eaten Chinese food all over the world including Hong Kong and Bejing and as a result have set expectations of my food. I have found the On Yuen to be well within my standards. The service is fast and businesslike, the food is well prepared and tasty. The ingredients are fresh and the vegetables are crispy. The menu is somewhat limited as expected in a small restaurant. Most portions are adequate but worth what one pays for. I often go to the On Yuen for lunch and have never been dissatisfied. It is one of four Chinese restaurants I favor in surrey and expect to go there in the future.

This restaurant is definetly not good, when I ordered a combo plate something tasted funny I had but two or three bites and decided I could not eat it. When I went to the front to express this I was yelled at by the lady managing the cash register. I asked if she wanted me to pay for the Meal I did not eat she said to go and don't worry about it. I was followed out by not one but 3 males who worked there with one proceeded to threaten me . He accused me of not paying even after I was told not to worry about if and told to leave . I ended up giving him money for a meal I did not eat and told him to get lost. To any of you people choosing to dine here best of luck and be warned if you complain about your food .

I don't review often, but this place deserves it. This is my first review that I'm actually leaving online for a restaurant. We recently moved to Surrey and were looking for good Chinese food. Based on the reviews here, we ordered from On Yuen and were not disappointed. We ordered Chow Mein and Beef with Snow Peas. The beef was tender, the veggies were crispy, and the sauces were delicious. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.

Our only choice for Chinese food. Like the tittle says this is our only choice when we want Chinese food. We have been going there for years. We moved out of Surrey but will still drive back for this food. No other restaurant can come close.

The food was GREAT (except "chicken balls" weren't balls & tasted a bit funny) BUT before i could even explain what was wrong with it, the extremely polite wait staff said, "I take off you bill wight away!" The portions were bigger than expected for price - lots of take home! <br/>We will DEFINITELY be going back there in the near future! I would rate it 8.5/10.

Great service and food!. I eat out quit a bit and as far as Chinese food goes - this restaurant is tops in my book. Great value for portion size and the service is always good. It is a mom and pop operation. Top choices won ton soup, spicy squid, lettuce wraps, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour pork. Basically the whole menu is great. Their takeout is always quick and comes to the door hot. <br/>When you are there say hi to Eric and Regan

Good food.. Ate there last night with my wife and mother in-law. Nothing fancy. Just good food and service for a reasonable price. We all loved it. There were no left overs.

Awesome lemon chicken and beef&broccoli. We ordered from here after reading Urban Spoon reviews and weren't disappointed. The portions were a tiny bit on the small side but we will eat here again for sure!

We've been in this area many times. Not sure why we hardly noticed this place existed. Was shuffling through local restaurants and saw this place come up. Couldn't for the life of me figure out where this was. Went to vist but it was closed, went a second time it was closed. Finally went with a a friend and wow. Price was great but I was expecting quality to lack but it tasted great and like everyone says good portions! Owners of the resturaunt are great and care. The dinning area is nothing speacial but hey good clean food good price? I'm gonna over look the missed openings and we both give it two thumbs up.

Ordered in tonight while the Canucks were on - very nice people taking orders and delivering. Veggies were crisp and fresh, sliced pork was fantastic ( no chunks of fat ) and green beans in black bean sauce was very tasty! Was yummy and filling - great price!

Decent food, great service. I've eaten at tons of Chinese restaurants and while the food here was decent, it is one of the better places and values in Surrey for Chinese. Oh how I long for the past days of Leon Kee.<br/><br/>Service here was very good and the restaurant is very clean and nice to eat in and considering the cost for 3 people at $48 and leftovers for sat morning this was a great find. Will definitely be returning.

Really yummy honey garlic pork!. The Boneless Honey Garlic Pork is to die for. I loved it sooo much. Every piece has a thin layer of batter, and the rest is all meat, all lean, not a bit of fatty part in there. I ate them like popcorn, so good, and so satisfying! The Chicken Fried Rice went really well with the pork. It is not greasy as it doesn't have a shiny layer of oil on every single grain of rice.

Excellent value for lunch. Around $5 gets you a generous portion of tasty authentic food. Selection good also. A little decor wouldn't hurt but otherwise Eric does a great job with the place. Enjoy!

This weekend I finally had the chance to eat at this magical On Yuen Chinese restaurant in Surrey that my friends have been raving about.
