Review Charcoal And Woodz Restaurant & Bar - Surrey

UPDATE: Second visit, went well with just wife and kids, food great, service great. | Good food, good service. A little slow service tonight, but there was only one full waitress working this night, and always enough food for left overs.

Very good food! The portion sizes are great and the quality is incredible. Was very surprised by what we got and would definitely come back.

Restaurant wasn't very busy, reservations were definitely not needed. Food was meh. I wasn't very impressed with my meal (pork belly to start, salmon with caesar on the side), but the rest of my party really enjoyed theirs (Thai chicken bowl and farmers daughter pizza). Maybe mine was just a miss. The caesar salad was bland, too much sauce on the pork belly, and there could have been less pistachios piled on top of the salmon.

I got the chicken parmesan as takeout from here and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. The dish is $23 so I was expecting something a bit more substantial. When I got the box it felt kind of light so that was already the first sign that something was off. Once I opened it I realized how tiny the portion of food is. Underneath the chicken there's literally like two forkfulls of pasta. The chicken itself tasted terrible, super dry and really sweet for some reason. After cutting into it I looked at the chicken and it just didn't look that fresh, definitely went from taken out of the freezer and straight onto a pan. It's sad to think that I could have made a better version of this than the restaurant. I rarely leave negative reviews but this place warranted one as it baffles me how they could even consider serving this to a customer.

The service at this restaurant was really good. The food was a 3/5 at best. We came here for Dine Out Vancouver. The tomato basil soup was quite tart and thick. Not what I was expecting as a soup. I had the Jumbo Black Prawn cocktail. It came with only two pieces of prawn and was nice but it would be nicer to have one more prawn. My friend had the steak bites and they were plated in the most unappetizing way. Just thrown on the white plate without any garnishes. They were overcooked. I had the baby back ribs, which had the taste of thyme coming through the marinade. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone, but the taste of thyme was too much for me to fully enjoy these. The rest of our group had the steak and loved it. For dessert I had the chocolate sensation and it was perfect. Not too sweet and just the right size.

7 adults + 4 little kids enjoyed the Father's Day buffet brunch recently. There was a wide selection of hot & cold foods, fruits & deserts. Everything was great - the food, the setting & the staff. They didn't have my favourite beer but they had a good selection; I was not disappointed.

EXCELLENT service and the food was beyond good. Drinks were never empty and the staff didn't seem to be rushed. Was halfway into my meal when I was asked to take the picture. Good sized portions. We were there for an Anniversary dinner but patrons were also sitting at the bar enjoying appies and a beer. Relaxed but elegant atmosphere.

Firstly, this is a Sports Bar, attached to a Holiday Inn Express. TV screens line the walls, the music is loud and the conversations even louder. As a pub, it gets 4 stars, were I to judge it as a nice Restaurant (Earl's, The Keg) it would receive only 3 stars. My wife and I had the "Dine out Vancouver" prix fixe menu. 4 courses for $48, a bargain. Tomato basil soup was very good Chilie Chicken appetizer was excellent My main dish of baby back ribs was a generous, well prepared, full slab. Dessert choices were blueberry cheesecake and a rich chocolate cake, both delicious. The only downside were the potatoes and vegetables accompanying the meals were hospital cafeteria quality, should have asked for French fries and onion rings...

Really good service (loved our waitress) and attentive manager who checked in with us to make sure we were happy. Food was really good! I had a delicious salad and ordered salmon with it and the salmon was cooked perfectly.

came here with a friend not too long ago and had pretty much the worst service I've ever had in my life. I've worked as a server so I pretty much know how everything works. Thr girl that was serving us was absolutely terrible. It was this tall Asian looking girl. She seemed to be having a wonderful time with the guys at the bar, flirting with them and doing shots with them, but my friend and I were pretty much totally neglected. There was another server that was on and he seemed to be doing a great job with his tables so I'm not really sure why they would hire someone who just seems to be interested in flirting with guys for tips, and who knows what else, when they have such a hard working guy in. The food was pretty good and was brought out to us by the guy who also pretty much ended taking care of us. I really wouldn't recommend anyone going here unless you make sure you have a server that isn't the Asian girl that works there. Unless of course youre a guy looking to do shots and apparently stick it in her because that's really honestly the only thing she looked like she was looking for. Like honestly, what kind of server stands there and gets wasted at the bar with guys while basically screaming that she's allowed to because she has seniority and nothing can happen to her? What kind of business are you running here? Disgusting.

Not overly impressed. Staff were lovely but the Thai chicken red curry was not what it said it was. Not sure exactly what it was, but it wasn't good. I imagine the sports bar is better.

Have been going to their lounge for drinks for quite a while but went there today for Brunch with my sister. Can you say 'WOW'! I was so impressed with their food. We shared a SMOKED SALMON eggs benedict...it was honestly the best I have ever eaten. Fresh fresh fresh with lots of fresh fruit on the side and home chunky potatoes, fresh dill and capers on the benny! We also shared their specialty FRENCH TOAST! It was covered with a fresh strawberries, bananas, stuffed with Mascarpone cheese and sitting in a light incredibly delicious maple caramel sauce and lightly dusted with powdered sugar! So good, we are going back next Sunday!

Service was slow, food was mediocre at best. My steak was really thin and overdone, veggies were super salty. Wasn't impressed by any of it. Wouldn't go back.

Came in just before halftime SB50, good thing a lot of no shows for reservations I was told by the server. Still a good crowd though to watch the game. Ordered burger and ribs to start, crisp fries with well cooked food. For dessert, chocolate chip cookie with gelato. Mmm good!!! Very nice atmosphere & great service.

checked the place out for the dine out vancouver menu with a jabrone buddy of mine that likes to eat. he's a bit of a fatass. anyway, i never got cutlery with my appy. it was salad. no big deal. i can deal. then the steak came. undercooked. mkay, again i can deal. then the dessert. creme brûlée. the sugar on top was a bit of an adventure. overall the food was good even with the mistakes. great looking menu

Great service and the food is good too. The wings were fresh not previously frozen, you can tell as they were tender not chewy. They weren't giant Brazilian wings but local and fresh (way better). They had a butter chicken special and it was very flavorful. They also gave a finger bowl with the wings, a nice touch to help wash off the sauce. Well done, please keep it up!

Mother's Day Brunch. I had the luxury of taking my family to Charcoal & Woodz for Mother's Day brunch this year. The food and service was amazing. We sipped mimosas and enjoyed an amazing buffet spread. Chef David did not disappoint! I've had the opportunity to enjoy his Sunday Brunch at his other location in Steveston called Caesar's and considering my foodie brunch snob girlfriends and I came from all over the lower mainland numerous times to repeat our dining experience there because it was so amazing, I had no doubt in my mind that Charcoal & Woodz would live up to David's reputation. I will definitely be bringing my family there next year. keep up the good work.

Great place for a staff party!. They went above and beyond for my company's staff party. Our server knew all of our names and was very welcoming. I couldn't believe how well he handled everyone's special requests! Such a gem! Definitely recommending charcoal for any special occasion or for a family outing.

Hit and Miss. Me and my husband decided to pop in for the first time last week. Overall, it was a hit and miss experience. The restaurant itself is in a bit of an odd location, attached to the Holiday Inn, and not easily accessible or visible from the street.

The one thing I can say is service was excellent, our server was very nice and very quick with refills, checking on us, etc. From the lounge and decor it looks like they are trying to be a bit of a nicer, Cactus Club type place, but it looked to me like they only went part way on the effort; we chose to sit in the dining room, while I liked the nice candles, the carpet looked old, stained and had crumbs all over, and we could also see into the kitchen, which also did not look particularly inviting. The only bathroom was the hotel bathroom outside the restaurant. I know the restaurant is more new but I was also surprised to see we were one of only a couple of tables there at 6pm.

The food itself was decent but nothing to write home about. We started with the nachos, which were large but poorly made, the kind where you get lots of chips but a only a tiny sprinkling of cheese on top. Husband had one of the burgers, it was HUGE if you like that kind of thing, and he said it was pretty good. I chose the tandoori pizza, which only comes in one size sadly, and it was also alright, typical pizza. I found the prices to be a little on the expensive side for what was offered, again I guess it's the "type" they are going for.

Overall, it seems like an okay place at best, the service seemed to be the only 'wow' impression I got.

Mother. I suggest Chef David visits other restaurants on Mothers day,or special buffets.he will learn a thing or two. Like how to prepare a buffet. Mothers day buffet was the worst ever.

Mother's Day Brunch. Brunch; A meal that combines breakfast and lunch usually served in late morning. This restaurant should be forced to reimburse all the families that ate there on Mother's Day. Definately a case of false advertising since there was no lunch in their brunch. They served breakfast foods only, no beef , chicken , fish, pasta or dessert. Overpriced , poorly cooked, poorly presented. $21.00 rip off

-----10 May, 2015-----

Mother's Day breakfast. The absolute worst Mother's Day Brunch ever. Breakfast items only . Mediocre at best, no lunch items or dessert table $21.00 for a $5.00 meal.

In love with this place.... Lunch menu is pretty varied and all items are worth trying, My personal favorite is their nachos and Charcoal & Woodz burger. Very nice surrounding, great service. I think if you like chicken, sea food or beef then this is the place for you. The chef clearly takes his job seriously. I hope this place stays like this always.

We came here when we visited the Rodeo, and they had amazing specials. They had some BC Craft beers and we really enjoyed the baby back ribs. The bad part was that they were only on the menu during the Rodeo.
