This was my first experience with Afghan food and I enjoyed it very much. Our server was the star of this show though. After I had paid my bill and left she came outside to find me because she noticed I’d left a $200 tip and she was worried it was accidental. It was accidental - and as much as I loved her serving skills I had not meant to give that much. Her integrity, and then the integrity of the owner was very much appreciated by me. I will return to this restaurant any time I am in the area. Great food! Lovely people.
Quality of food n taste is amazing and after trying it for the first time i came back. But customer service is worst!!!! Please respect and treat your customers in a manner which is least acceptable because your paycheck is coming from our pockets.
Great place to have function. great atmosphere. very clean looks well maintained banquet.
Excellent food and service so far ... Love the food..
I just wish there are more than 5 stars ☺ MASHAALLAH excellent food and service was great too. Nice and clean place with beautifully decorated interior.
Awesome Food! Great Service! Dumplings! OMG!
came here during late lunch, ordered a few items, if i'm not mistaken i ordered the bolani for appetizer and assorted kebab for main. overall i think the meat is definitely well seasoned and the taste was good, definitely you can smell the herbs that were used but it was just good enought that it complements the rest of the seasoning of the meat. price wise it's on the higher side for me, spent around $20+ well i think for trying is definitely okay, but i'd go for other places. the naan was good as well
Back in 2016, i had shifted to a stict vegetarian diet. It was going pretty well and i was perfectly content with my choice of food. Lentils, fresh fruit and vegetables etc - you name it.
I was really proud of myself.
And then someone suggested Afghan Chopan.
I have never hated myself more.
Not because of the food, mind you.
The place is located in the heart of Surrey, and has a rather unassuming vibe from the outside. As you enter it, you’re greeted by a neat waterfall caressing a glass wall. Pretty swanky.
Then you are exposed to the multiple seating options. You can either go for the traditonal table and chair, or you can sit cross legged on the floor on a slightly elevated platform seperate from the table and chairs.
The food itself is very good. Unlike Afghan Horseman in Vancouver, Afghan Chopan does not serve Alcohol so if you’re looking to mix up the halal and the non-halal, this isn’t the place for you.
Expectedly, the menu is very meat heavy. The Chopan Kebab Combo for example, is a delight. It may clog your arteries, but hey, you only live once. If you want to indulge in some rice, then try the Kabuli Pallow, which is suppoed to be a staple of Afghan cuisine. Apparently it is the to the Afghan people what McDonalds is to the American people - only more healthy.
And don’t forget the Naan Bread - a delightful mix between being crispy and soft. That may not make any sense as a reader, but it will make a lot of sense as an eater!
In a nutshell, if there is one place that makes falling off the vegetarian wagon worth it, it is this.
Restaurant Name : Afghan Chopan
Location : 12888 80th Avenue Surrey BC
Ambiance : 8/10. Nothing fancy. Has a very casual feel to it. The kind of place you would like ridiculously out of place in a bowtie, for example.
Service : 9/10. Fast, quick, and very helpful! All the time aided by a pleasant smiles.
Food Quality : 8/10. If you’re into meat, especially meat without gravy, this is the place to go. Don’t eat breakfast. Don’t eat lunch. Leave plenty of space in your stomach!
*Afghan Chopan is a Halal Restaurant*
Quality not quantity is what you get when you visit Afghan Chopan. We always get the family combo and the meat is delicious and tender. The standout for me is the Qabeli polo is amazing. You have to give it a shot. The service is okay, and while the people are friendly, they always seem understaffed.

It's not about location here. This place is a lovely oasis in a semi industrial/ warehouse area of Surrey. Step in side and it is a beautiful welcoming restaurant. Comfortable booths and some areas where groups can sit on the floor in the traditional style (sorry but my knees will not permit this). Beautiful decorations...just very nice. And the food! My partner and I had the "Couples Combination" which was perfect for two and gave us a taste of a few different things (very reasonable at $28.95). A platter of perfect basmati rice, flavored with cinnamon, raisins and carrot. Underneath the rice was the Qabeli Pallow (morsels of tender beef shank). There was a wonderful smokey eggplant dish which we ended up treating as a dip for the Naan that accompanied. Three skewers; one of Tekka Kebab (marinated beef tenderloin, beautifully tender), Shami Kebab ( our first time trying a ground meat kebab and it was very good ) and Chicken Kebab ( perfect) all served on a plate with a refreshing salad. The combination comes with a couple of soft drinks. Enough for two hungry people, we took quite a bit home for later. Don't be put off by A.C.'s proximity to Surrey's gangland (just kidding). Expand your horizons and try this wonderful cuisine in a very nice place.

Very welcoming clean environment with good service & a menu with varied fare. The food was fresh & visually well presented. The "Dough" (liquid refreshment) was truly an amazing accompaniment to the entrees ordered. This was an enticing compilation of "flavors" not experienced previously in other cuisines! The "spice" level was indeed well done, not too "hot" but rather enhancing the fare
Everything in their Kebab Combo for 5-7 people hits the mark. Good ambience and pleasant service. A tad bit pricey and can be hard to find in a very busy business complex.
I am now an Afghani food lover! I had never tried this cuisine prior to the other night when my friend and I decided to order some take out. Initially, I was a little hesitant because of the strange location, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. All of the flavours were so vibrant! I could eat the boulani and mantu all day, every day for the rest of my days. The staff were also very friendly and helpful when we went to pick up our order. Will return!

Great authentic halal afghani food
...Qabeli Pallow which had tender pieces of beef shank, mixed with carrots and raisins as well as a skewer of chicken kebab, tekka kebba and shami kebab. This was also supposed to come with salad, naan and chutney. Along with it came a potato dish which was sooooo good! It honestly tasted like butter chicken but made with potatoes?! My mind was fully blown!
We were in the mood for trying some Afghan food which consists of lots of kebabs. Mm. kebabs. Afghan Chopan has a few locations in the lower mainland – Richmond, Vancouver and Surrey. There were a bunch of things on the menu that we wanted to try, but also unsure of a lot of things. We definitely aren’t familiar with Afghan food, but we do like it. We screwed up a little and ordered a bunch of the same thing because we kept changing our mind, but it was still pretty good. We ordered the Assorted Kebabs, and the Couples platter which is basically the exact same thing but the couples platter comes with rice, and an eggplant dish. We also ordered another small green salad on the side, which also comes with the other two platters. Both platters came with a Chicken, Shami (Minced meat) and Tekka (Beef kebabs), a long with a green chutney and a red one. They were all pretty good. All very tender and quite flavourful with nice spices on top. I think the chi
