Review The Henry Public House - Surrey

Presentation was excellent but unfortunately I felt like the food disaappointed. The service and the Caesar salad was the only thing I thought was good. The cream of mushroom soup looked looked good but was extremely salty. The carnitas tacos was flavorless and tough and dry. The wings were just ok.

Very disappointed today. Wasn't busy but service was so slow. Out of 2 appies ordered, cauliflower came cold and greasy and nachos were dry and flavorless. They need to up their game in service if they want more business.

Popped in for lunch and my covid proof was not working. A lovely young lady helped to straighten that out. While my friends sat at a table waiting. They received no service or acknowledgement while this was happening. Once I was seated the male server was quite perturbed that we asked for a printed menu. Nearing 70 yrs old we are not used to using the phone menu reader. Food was normal pub standard

They are definitely trying to keep this place primarily Caucasian.. they pretend to have dress code to keep anyone of color out. There was people inside in track suits but my friends were told to leave cause of track pants, all business people too.

Showed up lastnight decently late was greeted by Jeff the manager, probably one of the most welcoming people I've met. Will definitely return based off of his friendly attitude and respect.

Went for brunch. Love the breakfast potato! Food is pretty good. Mimosa is damn good. Maybe don't bother with the waffle it is meh. Staff are attentive and quick with your drinks.

First time at the Henry Public House and I thought the food and service were as expected. Food came out in a timely fashion, and coffee was topped up frequently wheb we came for lunch. Drinks were also well made. The place is a little funky, with old arcade machines everywhere! I'd gladly return if I was in the area! If my review helped, give me a thumbs up 👍 Cheers 🍻

I'm not going to drag it out. This bar is a shadow of its former self. The menu is lame and the staff act like they don't want to be there.

I used to come here with my friend, and we loved it even though the food wasn't all that great. But it was a nice quiet place close to home. The other day we went in, and we were asked for three pieces of ID, we were then thrown out because we didn't have three different pieces. We have always sat on the diners side, and never asked for a single piece of ID until now. We were very nice about the situation, and had said we have always eaten here before without an issue. But the waitress was extremely rude towards us, and walked away ignoring us, telling us to just leave. After contacting the manager who was also extremely rude. He said he spoke to the waitress who denied everything. I'm sorry, but do you really think the waitress would admit to being so rude? In the past I have had some mean waiters here, but never to this extent. I wont be coming back anytime soon, and I now understand why it always seems so empty inside.

I can’t believe I didn’t write a review for this place. A few years ago a friend of mine, whom I had worked with for some time, chose The Henry for her farewell celebration when she gave notice to move back to England. The atmosphere is relaxed with conversation being easily managed. Staff are friendly and attentive while not being intrusive. A nice place for a group or alone for a drink.

Can I please get an A+ for amazing! This place is the place to be. We live in the panorama area so we tried some places around there... Not so great around our place for a good beer and meal. Went there to try out their sunday brunch and mimosas.... Great price for a great brunch! I had the eggs benedict which was amazing... The hollandaise sauce was a little too rich for me since I am lactose intolerant, so please beware... It's amazing, but not worth the fight afterwards. M mimosas were so small tho :( But I haven't had special mimosas before for $3... SO I am not sure how that works, usually when i get one I am at white spot or earls... I am trying to get out of the shell and try other places for them too... Next time I'll try their special caesars they have on sundays :)  The service was amazing!! So great that we went back again to try their dinner menu, we had a little problem with our chicken wings, but our server totally made up for it when she explained about the situation. I was okay with it :) But it was nice of her to actually take the time to explain! Thanks Shauna! The beef dip was DELICIOUS, best beef dip i've had in awhile and I do like my beef dip! One of my favourites. My beer was great, even tho it was the special house lager for 6 for a pint. :) I was pleased with it! If you want a rad place to be with a nice big screen to watch the game on, then please make the little hike to go on down here. :) We do and will be definitely doing it again and telling our friends about it!

Denied my friends of colour access saying that it was "guest list only" but immediately allowed my two white friends in without a question. Seriously? What year is this?

I really wanted to like it here because it is so close to home.  The food was good if  not undersized for the $ but we had the worst service from the wait staff.  A bit condescending when they could be found.  Perhaps it was because we weren't regulars? Because of this .. we won't be regulars.  Back to the Guildford Station Pub.

17 Indo- Canadians Were denied there rights in this establishment.. My sister in-law had made reservations for my brother's birthday. Upon arrival, the gentleman as seen below did not allow us entry. They said there was no existing reservation. We had told them that we had a verbal agreement, with a women we spoke to prior coordinating this event. The gentlemen seen below were adamant that there was no reservation. Furthermore, management was not willing to speak us. The gentlemen told us that we are not able to wait in line. While we waited for the return of our party bus, 10 Caucasian individuals were allowed entry with ease and no wait time. I am an educated Canadian Woman. I have never felt un-welcomed in my own country. I encourage my lower mainland community to avoid this establishment at all cause.

Horrible experience. The bouncers were very rude and completely disrespectful. They were racist and were not able to justify their ruthless actions and as a result, a friend of mine had to suffer for it. I would not suggest this place to anybody who knows what respect means. The owners should really reconsider who they hire to represent their company. I am never going back here again.

RACIST! RACIST! RACIST!. This place is pure garbage. Extremely racist bouncers. I arrived there at 9pm when there was no line. The bouncers told me and my friends that we weren't allowed in if we didn't have guest list because apparently, the club was going to be over capacity once everyone on guest list arrived? Then, 10 seconds later in front of my eyes, they let 4 white males in without being on guest list.<br/><br/>Never recommending this place to anyone. It's a disgrace to Cloverdale and Canada.

The Henri is Disgusting!!!!. This place is terrible! Maybe they should learn how to SERVE people. Food was cold and took forever to get to our table. Bouncers are SUPER RUDE, and racist. This place is not worth your money people!!!!!

Not sure how this is even the same company as townhall because this is pretty much the worst jr group establishment! Went here for brunch today, no empty tables were cleared. Saw staff walking around not even picking up glasses and stuff from empty tables. Sat ourself at a dirty table and waited for out server. Ordered our drinks and had to ask for our table to be wiped down after we got our drinks. We ordered our food which took a while to come but being it is a weekend brunch we were okay with this. What wasn't okay was that everyone at our table ordered our eggs soft and all of them came fully cooked and hard. Not very good for an eggs Benny. We mentioned this to our server and since we were now pressed for time we would just eat it as it was and all she said was that the kitchen has been really busy today and she'd let them know. Not sure if this was even mentioned to a manger because no one even acknowledge this to us or apologized. I haven't had a great experience here but I figured we would try it again but after this time I don't think I'll be back. I'll stick to townhall Langley because even though parking is limited, I have always had good food and service there, breakfast is always done right even though it is always packed. The Henry should take a lesson from them. It doesn't look good if one restaurant is know as 'the worst jr group restaurant'.

If you like this place than CLEARLY you were lucky enough to not have to experience such racism behaviour from both the owner and the bouncers. Like come onnn! This is Canada a MULTICULTURAL COUNTRY racism shouldn't exist here based on history which you all should have learned in school (clearly you didn't make it far). If you're non Caucasian, you will not get in by any chance unless you're all girls or have Caucasian friends with you. This place is a horrible image for cloverdale because I've lived here my entire life and have never experience such disrespect since I stepped foot in this crappy so called club/bar/ whatever the hell they want to call it place. The bouncers act like this place is downtown and it's "super busy" when in reality you're stepped foot into a nasty, stinky place filled with creeps and wannabe gangster. Just stay away if you want an awesome night without uneducated individuals trying to think they have some "bumping" night club!

Bouncers on a power trip here. The bouncers here are extremely rude. I was talking to a friend when a bouncer came over for no reason and told me I had to leave, when I asked him why? He says "your too drunk". I was in complete shock since I had JUST purchased a beer and was holding it. I tried reasoning with this guy but he just wouldn't change his mind and kept screaming and pushing me. Everyone in my group had to leave because of this idiot. The other bouncers were ignoring us when we asked them what's going on because it didn't make any sense. The owner needs to do something about these insecure brainless door men. My advise to everyone is AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE MORE THAN 2 or 3 DRINKS

Excellent. Went here to watch England play in the fifa world cup and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing! Old London sort of feel to the pub, food was generously portioned and for an excellent price. The staff were polite and not in the way during the game. Overall brilliant experience, I would definitely recommend this to my mates and go there more often.

Horrible. I have heard great things about The Henry from multiple people, and really enjoy Townhall in Langley, which is basically the same restaurant. I was unimpressed with the service; it seems like you need to be a regular to get timely service. The waitresses and bouncers were hugging girls as they walked in and greeting guys enthusiastically. Which is great service for them, but our waitress was inattentive to our table and forgot my friend's drink twice. We were seated near the door, and the bouncer who was scanning IDs was disgustingly inconsistent. Smiles for 'pretty' girls, and mean muggin' for 'average' girls. It's The Henry; it's not some elitist club. Three of my friends arrived just after 9:00 pm and waited in line for 2 hours. Many people came in and out of the pub in the 2 hours they waited. I visited them outside in the line. Many people behind them in line got in way before them. I'm really hoping this has nothing to do with them being gay males, and a minority female. However, that wouldn't fit the image of The Henry, which to me seems like it's avid gym goers with fake tans, so I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, they look great and to each their own, but when only one type of person is getting into the pub and it's that noticeable, it makes you wonder. Then once my friends were finally let in, they went outside for a smoke. They decided to go to their car so that the female could change her shoes. When they tried to re-enter, as they were told they would be able to, they were told that they couldn't go back in because they didn't ask for permission to go to the car. They only asked to go for a smoke, and that's not what they did. REALLY?! That's ridiculous. They were outside to smoke, and walked down the street for the amount of time it took to have a smoke. <br/><br/>This place was a huge disappointment. I love Townhall Langley, and I've heard great things about The Henry from my friends who are avid gym-goers and fake-tanners. They're lovely people, and I love them to death. But The Henry clearly only wants that type of person in their pub, and they have an attitude like that is the only acceptable type of person for their establishment. Let's be clear, The Henry is not an exclusive, members-only type of a place. But they think they are, and 'average' people are obviously unwelcome. I take the treatment of myself and my friends to heart. The Henry is not LGBTQ friendly. It reeks of Gold's Gym, hairspray, and gel nails.

A good local pub. I've been here quite a few times now and have never had anything but GREAT service. The food is decent pub food, and I've enjoyed most of the dishes I've tried. My go-to is the Rustic Veggie Flatbread though. It's nicely presented and very tasty. As far as breakfast/brunch, I wish they made an authentic hollandaise, the one here tastes a little like the cheese sauce for KD. Not a fan. Otherwise the eggs were cooked perfectly and you get A LOT of food for a very good price. Nice choice of beers on tap, craft and local. You can try tasters for a couple bucks too to help you decide. The service has always been very friendly and super efficient. Never ignored and never bombarded either. You'll find the same menu at each JRG establishment...it would be nice though if each had a signature dish or two on their menus.

Pathetic. The bouncers were holding a line before 9pm. My group of 20 was already inside, and they wouldn't let us skip the line up to join them. There has to be better options in Coverdale cause this was just stupid...

Absolutely terrible. We waited for 45 mins for our food, the order was wrong. Never going back. Go to the Henry if you have all day to wait around for food and like to be treated like dirt.

This place sucks. I went there at 9 only to wait in line for an hour. The place was empty and the bouncers were being rude and racist. I'm white and I witnessed then being racist to brown people and being extremely sexist. Bring back legacy.

Came here with coworkers on a Saturday night. Contrary to popular opinion, we had excellent/fast service. Our server was attentive and we didn't go long between drinks and orders. We all loved the food. Nachos and calamari as appies, both were perfect. I ordered a pasta (Alfredo with chicken and chorizo), it was good and a HUGE portion. It gets very crowded here after about 10:30pm but we had a blast dancing all night. We all agreed we'd go back again.

Our review. This was not a pleasant experience. My kids went to this restaurant and they were totally dissed. Totally disrespected. From the staff. Wow they thought it would be a good place to go to. Please think twice about going there.

Dont Even Bother Going, Garbage.. Horrible customer service, the doormen at the front are nothing but rude, bartenders were worse, the music was fairly okay, food was horrible and the bill took 30 minutes. 30 minutes seriously? Never going ever again, what did I expect, its in Surrey afterall.

Such a shame. Used to be a great bar. The service is the worst here. The waitresses could care less and spend more time eating food at their friends tables instead of doing their jobs. Takes 20 minutes to get the bill. Absolute disgrace. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

My girlfriend held my surprise bday party here. I had a blast. The food, atmosphere, and service was excellent. I would recommend this to all!

Not going back. Sunday afternoon at the car show. found a table right away, place looked steady but not packed. waited 15 min for service, my husband waived a server from another section to order. waited another 10 min for 2 warm draught beer to arrive. Two more friends found us and waited 15 min for service. Our server was so unfriendly and stern, never cracked a smile (must be stressed or hate her job). Two more friend found us same routine. we had a great visit as were all into cars and were having a blast at the event. Second round of drinks like pulling teeth, Husband went to bar to get our drinks, as server was nowhere to be seen. the food being served looked good, we decided to order lunch until we saw all the food stacked on the counter waiting to go to the tables. 15-20min and the kitchen staff kept bringing out the food to stack it on the counter, they looked shocked each time they were running out of room to put the food. we decided we didn't want our food to sit forever getting cold so we left went a different pub and had a great lunch, friendly service and mgd for 2.99. this was the fourth visit, never had a good experience yet. wont be back. ps. the Caesars like 1960 hunk o' celery, get with the times Henry check out your competition like Fox and Fiddle for an amazing Caesar.

Why the bad reviews? Maybe it depends if you come on a nightclub night or not... We went on a Wednesday evening.... Food was excellent, service was great and good atmosphere; had the giant windows open on a sunny day which let in a nice breeze and made it feel less like a club.

Best burger ever.

Great atmosphere and service. Classic benny very good, chicken strips tender with fries. Prices affordable. Don't know what all the complaints are about from brown people. There was a table of them there and i am asian.

Stay Away. I decided to go for breakfast on May 19th. Sat down and the waitress took my drink order (a coffee) and brought it. For the next 20 mins I waited as she helped put together a table for some guys and then take their drink order. A table next to me came in and she was fast to get their order and flirt with them saying "Caesars are the breakfast of champions" A table ahead of me sat down and was served their drinks, and then food ordered through another waitress. Coffee was gone by this time and my waitress had walked past me five times without asking for my food order. I got up and started to put my jacket on and she ran up asking if I had to leave, told her I waited too long (it wasn't packed) and she said she was only gone a few minutes (20+ to be exact). Head waitress approached me and asked me to talk to a manager....Manager apologized to me and said coffee was on him , but made no attempt to fix the situation or retain me as a customer (I explained to him that I had worked as a chef/manager in the restaurant biz for almost 20 years)....All he did was apologize 3 times and as I was walking away, said "I'm sorry...hope to see you again soon" what an ass...I have never been treated like that in a restaurant in my life - if any of them had worked for me, they wouldn't be in that business long.

Are you kidding me??. My friends went there for a birthday party, and were made to wait in line for close to an hour as they watched others breeze past the line and get in. Why? Because the majority of the group is brown, and it was during a peak time. Apparently this happens often when the pub gets busy. This is ridiculous. It shouldn't matter WHAT colour you are, as long as you are a willing patron. Not cool.

Yet another establishment that judges you by the colour of your skin. Heard and read good things about this place until I showed up at the front door with coworkers and friends. At about 930 the doorman indicated it was going to take over an hour. Everyone in line was non-Caucasian yet if you were Caucasian you could walk upto the front and get in. Sad to see venues still behaving like this but this place won't ever attempt to come back, nor should others be keeping them in business.

I had a good time. Went here for a birthday party. I didn't order food, but I did order many a drink. Maybe I'm use to Vancouver bar pricing for drinks, but my tab was only 70 bucks at the end of the night. After spoiling myself, my boyfriend and the 3 other birthday babies there, I was a pretty happy girl. Decent service but once it gets packed, it's hard to get to the bar if you want a drink because it's so crowded. My tip, get to know one of the bartenders there and keep going back to them, they'll recognize you and expedite you :)<br/><br/>Good music, top 40 with a few oldies too. Good night for out in the burbs.

Surprised to see negative reviews!. Heard of this place through a Groupon and decided to give it a try. My bf and I had the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich - and from a Montrealer, great job Henry!! Loved the mustard a l'ancienne grains and the kosher dill. Fries were just the way I like them: crispy and only lightly salted. Also had the prime rib burger with brioche and it was just great - really juicy, and then bun was perfect. The tomato parmesan soup was really good too. Service was great from the bartender as well as our waitress Mellisa. Very friendly and accommodating. Love the decor, especially the floor to ceiling bookcases filled with hardcover books. Also a pool table for 1.50$ game. Looking to come back to try some cool lunch specials. Definitely recommended!!

Food was great ,most of the .... Food was great ,most of the waitressess and girl bartender were so friendly. I now call this my local haunt. Love what u did with the ol nudey bar ,unbelievable!

FANTASTIC. My boyfriend and I went there tonight and we were so excited to stumble upon this place. The service was 5 stars and the value for quality on the food was outstanding. We've also never seen such a beautiful "pub" in Surrey let alone in Cloverdale. We've read the other negative reviews and honestly do not relate to them. We are definitely going back and you should try it for yourself.

Staying away. This place is wack, absolutely dead and they make people wait in line. Even at 930 lol , what a joke. The bouncers are jerks. I'm guessing their capacity is for like 20 ppl? Stay away

IM SO FULL !. I'll start off by saying I ate the Townhalla burger!! 3lbs of man vs food. This burger was amazing, size, flavour, presentation, price, All 10/10 the full package best burger in Surrey. Atmosphere of this place is great went there on a wednesday night for dinner and had a blast. not sure what all the complaining is about service was great and bartender Nick was Hilarious. definitely something Cloverdale needs not just your old boring pub! real downtown feel and a step up from anything in the area. very happy. Will definitely be going back and eating more !

I really enjoyed it! I'm seeing lots of negative reviews below but I have to say, there's no where nearby with such a cool atmosphere & great quality food at that price. It's obvious that there's some growing pains - it's not yet as established as the Townhall over in Langley, but for sure it's on it's way... Some kinks to iron out for sure. But th food & prices are the same as my other favourite pub :)

I've tried this place a couple times. Neither time was an overly thrilling experience. My friend and I sat at a dirty table filled with empty dishes and beer jugs for about 15 minutes until I got up and approached a server and what looked to be a manager on their bill processing computer. I asked if we could have service at our table in which I received a chuckle from the waitress and silence from what looked to be her superior. Clearly they don't know how to run a business or they are under staffed. Our table was then approached by a lovely server who was quite prompt and friendly who fixed everything. We ordered a lb or wings each which were very boney to say the least. Overall I would rate the Henry a 1.5/10 on service and 7/10 on overall look of the place.

Gave it three tries, won't be back. The first two times I went to the Henry I was put off by the slow service. The second time I decided to sit at the bar with my mother, we waited 10 minutes and the bartender never even came over to say "Hello, I'll be right with you". We got up and left and went to the racetrack instead.<br/>I understand the place can get busy, but there are plenty of other busy places that are willing to acknowledge my existence within 10 minutes, and those are the places that will be getting my money.<br/><br/>The last time (most likely ever) that I went to this establishment was Friday the 23rd. The bouncer with the scar was initially nice, until about midnight where he made an uncalled for comment when I asked if he had seen my boyfriend. As we had been in and out throughout the night for smokes, I figured he would remember us together, but instead he decides to say something incredibly off putting (and inappropriate to post) for absolutely no reason. It was disgusting and I will not be returning. An absolute failure in customer service.

I wanted to give this place an honest chance, after all how hard could it be to upgrade from a sleezy strip club. Its nice that they've renovated (as if they had a choice) all they've achieved is covering the old with a cheap facade and tinted windows. Furthermore their sign is nothing more than a provocative picture of a photo of a women biting a strawberry. Did I mention its about the size of a billboard. Surely once you look at it, you can't help but think what the angle is. Despite all this I stayed for a few hours. As much as I wanted to avoid food in a former strip club I allowed the waitress to talk me into an appetizer. Much to my dismay. The price for a drink is ridicules also. With all that being said though, I had no trouble paying and leaving a generous tip. After I learned a stabbing took place last weekend. Your money and time is better spent at the one of Cloverdales pubs or the Race track. I couldn't help but wonder does this small town need more nightlife? I thought the point of removing the strip club, was to rid the community of this entity. <br/><br/>-Sorry if anyone is easily offended by my honest review.

The food was great - I had the naked prime rib burger and my wife had the montreal smoked meat - and the beer was great - the rotating craft beer tap was one if my favorites, Fat Tug IPA. <br/><br/>It was a tale of two servers. The first one, prompt and friendly, was replaced by one who was, well, not prompt, nor friendly. After a quick chat with who I can only imagine was the manager we had the original server back and a round on the house.<br/><br/>We finished with dessert, Guinness pudding with ice cream on top.<br/><br/>Overall a great experience since the only negative was dealt with upon request.

Nice place but really dark. It has the worst service in Cloverdale. Had to wait 15 min to get a drink the first time and 20 the second time. Been two times and will never go back.
