Hawthorne is the place to be for an incredible selection of beers and fantastic atmosphere. The decor is amazing, and the menu has lots of unique options that you wouldn't find at a regular pub. The staff are really knowledgeable about their beer selection and always willing to answer any of your questions. Service is fast and friendly. Hawthorne has quickly become my go-to pub!

Can't wait to go back! What a cozy place well situated on the main street of Cloverdale. After wandering the antique and novelty shops stop in for a glass of their amazing craft beers. I'm not even a beer drinker but the Cherry Beer was amazing and there was such a great selection to go with appies out of this world! After we savored the stuffed chicken breast with mashed potatoes and OMG. I have definately found my new favorite place to hang out! Especially on a nice day with the open patio! Love it!!!
Amazing unique place to have a date, or even a large bday party! Friendly, and super efficient staff to make your night a win! Definitely put this place on your list to check out!

My co-workers recently held my retirement celebration at your bistro. It was the perfect evening. The atmosphere was intimate and everyone has been talking about what a great time they had since. I understand the manager and staff were extremely accommodating during the planning stage. The variety of appetizers served throughout the evening were delicious and the servers worked hard to keep the drinks flowing. Your brochette was my favourite and I really enjoyed the Hawthorne Pale Ale. Thank-you for accommodating the Piper at the last minute. It was a surprise to us all. Definitely a night to remember and I will be back for more. Cheers!
Quirky and fun decor and atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food and drinks are enjoyable and there is a wide selection with something for everyone. Best part is their beer selection (shocking, I know). Great options at good prices.
Hawthorne Beer Market is located in downtown Cloverdale. Its a sister restaurant to the Washington Avenue Grill (White Rock) and The Vault (also Cloverdale). They are a chic beer loving bistro in the heart of this old town. They have been open for approximately 2 years. I liked that their beer list featured mostly locally produced creations. I went with the Zunga, a blonde beer. It had a wheaty flavour and was easy to drink.
Short staffed tonight but you wouldn't know it with Emily Mike and Tammy. I've been coming to this establishment for a long time and each time it's been pleasing

Inexperience of staff readily apparent. Horrible service. Couldn't identify her left asscheck, nevermind bring me the right beer I'd ordered. Maybe if she were the slightest bit knowledgable on the products she was supposed to be selling then she could have done so. At least half of them know nothing. If I were the other half I would be frustrated to have such simple co-workers. Unless they're all that bad in which case this place is simply taking up space
Great food and service. Loved the beer menu and beer cocktail specials, we had the magarita pizza and it was amazing, plus bruchetta also fabulous. Server was excellent and we had a great time.
Great addition to Cloverdale. Originally went there for their "When it rains, we pour" $5 lager deal and ended up having a great meal. From mussels to pizza, we all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. I expected it to be like drumsticks with waffles but it was more like a schnitzel or a fried chicken steak. The meal was accompanied with greens and goat cheese. The sauce was a brown sauce with mushrooms. Very tasty but a tad bit too salty.
The restaurant itself has really cool decor. I can only describe it as industrial chic. The service was wonderful. The waitress was attentive without being too present. Since it's a beer market, we asked if they had a beer sampler menu but unfortunately they didn't. I think it would be good addition to their menu.
All in all, we enjoyed ourselves. It's definitely a restaurant we'll be visiting again.
This place is awesome! If you want fine dining don't go here BUT if you are looking for a great place for an after work beer, appies and dinner than this is your place. We are new to town and exploring different resturants around cloverdale and surrey and this is our new favourite. The atmosphere is great with a feel like a downtown portland pub feel. The list of beers is a decent size with great menu. We had the clam pot and the Maui Wowie pizza. Prices were good and we left saying that we will be back! Thanks Hawthorne for bringing a great pub feel to Cloverdale! You guys rock!!
Funky little place...great beers to choose from, duck poutine was great as well as the pizza...service was pretty good...give it a try.
Great Food, Beer & Atmosphere. Recently my husband and I joined friends for dinner at Hawthorne's and quite enjoyed it. The decor is very well done and has a comfortable feel to it. We started our meal with seawater garlic butter mussels which were very fresh and followed it with a tasty pizza. Others in our party had chicken wings which they enjoyed and we shared french fries which were excellent. I had a beer sampler and they were all to my liking and also a great way to try different types of craft beer. Everyone else enjoyed their beers. We found the waitress friendly and attentive and definitely would recommend this bistro.

Diner from the area - repeat customer!. I agree with the review just before this one. This place is awesome. My husband I have been 5 times and
never had a bad experience. The food is not highly priced - have you been to Milestones or Cactus Club their prices are high, presentation in those restaurants is non-existent, portions small and the food is generic, bland and uninspired, while Hawthorne brings a new and exciting vibe to Cloverdale. The portions are generous and delicious. We have tried each of the mussels/clams items on the menu and have not been disappointed. The scotch egg is delightful and different, pizzas are tasty, meatloaf great portion size and so yummy, my husband has the ribs each time - I could go on but you get the idea. A lot of thought and planning has gone into creating this interesting and select menu - quantity of menu items does not define a quality dining experience or quality of food. This restaurant does not claim to be vegetarian so stop complaining and have a salad, a soup, bruschetta, garden pizza, mussels etc. The restaurant is new and may be experiencing a few growing pains some days, however, the owners of this restaurant also own the Vault, Washington Avenue Grill, and the Cabin - they know what they are doing and provide exceptional dining experiences at each venue. A few months from now when the minor staffing kinks are ironed out Hawthorne's will be the happening place to go for individuals who appreciate interesting flavorful food and unique beers. If you enjoy good craft beer this is the restaurant that will offer you a varied and tasty selection - As one reviewer below suggested going to Henry's, well sure if you what a Bud or Molson Canadian etc. and want to sit with a crowd of young people intent on getting drunk - Hawthorne's will attract a more discerning and intelligent patron with a sophisticated pallet and knowledge of craft beers. I believe that's what the creators of this restaurant what in any event - knowledgeable people looking for a unique dining experience - if you want generic go to McDonalds. We will return again and again and will continue to support and recommend Hawthorne's to friends, and friends of friends. Bravo to the staff for doing their best and having to tolerate cranky customers under difficult circumstances - I am sure these people who complain are absolutely perfect at their jobs and everything they do right? lol Thanks for the wonderful dining experiences and for providing Cloverdale and surrounding area with an exceptional alternative to the franchise restaurants found in abundance in nearby Langley.
I'm suprised by some of the reviews..I've been here a few times now and I think it's great. Just what Cloverdale/Surrey needs. The atmosphere is awesome! And Now I don't have to travel downtown to get some great craft beer. As with most new restaurants it has some things to work on but I have no doubt that in a couple months this place will be just as good as there other restaurants!
I use Urbanspoon a lot to find a good restaurant and find myself not having enough memorable experiences to leave a review until now. We are foodies and I have to say this place is truly a gem. The atmosphere is a converaation piece and the food even more so!!! Excellent food, duck poutine!!? Yes please!! Pizza had great flavor!! Bbq chicken prawn. The fruli mojito was heaven so this I write to you...if your unsure TRY it, if you want something different and new GO! Its worth every penny. This is why I like to dine!! Thank you very much for the service and excellence :) we ll be back
Good food, good beer. The servers seemed overwhelmed, but the selection of beer was great! We had the roasted garlic and chicken pizza, which was flavorful, as well as the cilantro, lime lager mussels which were very tasty. I look forward to seeing the restaurant develop.

Welcome to the neighbourhood. A very welcome addition to the local restaurant and bar scene. I love the concept of highlighting craft beers (most very local), and offering way above average 'pub' style food. They've really stepped up the game for this area. Very impressed with the mussels and clams. We have tried the seawater and garlic butter clams & mussels and the mussels with lager cilantro garlic lime. While the first one is my favourite, they were both excellent. Servings are a full pound. Add on a basket of bread for $2.99, or fries for $4.99. The bread is slightly garlicked and toasted and the fries are first rate. The dry ribs are meaty and moist, and the best I've had anywhere. Presentations are great too. Not pretentious at all. The beer offerings are a mix of the familiar and new. I've tried 2 crafts from their rotating taps and both are winners. Offerings are 8, 16 & 32 oz. Prices for the 8 oz start at $3. A great way to sample a few or try something new.
The service has been great. The servers are friendly and know the menu. Not sure what you like in a beer? They've been awesome helping describe the flavours to me & offering a sample so I don't order something I'm not going to like.
Hawthorne is going to be a regular stop for me. Really glad they're here.

Very cool place! Brings something completely new and different to the burbs. Looking forward to my next visit to try a few more of their craft beers.
