Review Afghan Kitchen - Surrey

The food was delicious the selection on the menu was great and the prices were equally great especially for the level of food one receives. The only comment I would make is the waitress could have came back to our table to take the our finished dishes away after it finished eating. Nothing more unpleasant than sitting enjoying the taste of the food we just finished eating looking at dirty plates. But this restaurant is definitely worthwhile checking out if you really enjoy Afghani food

Food was great. We ordered the couples dish/entree and it was more than enough food for 2 people. Food all tasted great and the service was great too. We did go when it wasn’t too busy. Only thing I would say about the food is the naan wasn’t fresh. Everything else was great. Seating and ambiance were great too.

Ordered a couple combo and food was amazing. They were definitely small portions but perfect for us. The spices were very well balanced such that we can enjoy and taste the food. The meat was tasteful and delicious. Also we really enjoyed the milk tea. Will visit again.

Absolutely delicious, fair price, big portions. The chicken was soft, tender and flavourful. Just wish they had a Vancouver location!

This is my first time having dinner there. I had the vegetarian combo and it was really good. 👌 My friend had Bolani, Tekka Combo, Fereney and she loved all. The Chai Sabz and Sheer Chai were really good.

Food was fantastic!! First time trying it and will be returning for sure!! Only thing is that I wish that the service was better 😕 It took us 10mins to get our waitress to help us!! That is not acceptable 😑

Was there for the 5th time and was amazing every time. The potato pawkawra is a must have. Then shared a To the Valley platter with my friend with an extra side of eggplant borani. Who knew eggplant could be so delicious. Would totally recommend this restaurant. The food is so fresh and delicious.

Don’t tell my dad, but this is the best Afghan food I’ve ever tasted! It’s so nice to not have to drive all the way to downtown Vancouver for a delicious halal meal when this place is right in South Surrey. Love the traditional Afghan brown rice with chicken, the pomegranate-orange juice, mantu, and rose ice cream dessert. I’ll definitely have to bring my dad to put him up to his new competition. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I was there last night and the food was amazing, great home cooked style meal made by a great Chef, the mom of the owner. Everything was clean and upscale. The server was the son and he was extremely good at what he does. Loved the little background history on the back of the menu. Definitely will be back and will recommend to all friends.Thank you Afghan Kitchen South Surrey.

This is one of the best dining experiences we have had. We were greeted by warm, friendly staff who provided excellent service. We can't say enough about the food! This was our first experience with Afghan food and we will be going back. The owner even stopped by to chat with us and it is really nice that this is a family business. We highly recommend!!

We loved visiting Afghan Kitchen! For drinks we had their kombucha on tap - delicious jasmine scented kombucha! We ordered the pawkaras, boulani, and eggplant borani and specified for it all to be vegan. The pawkaras were the only disappointment (they came out with the yogurt sauce even after a lengthy conversation about yogurt dip alternatives!) and were super oily (granted, they’re deep fried, but these seemed oilier than pawkaras normally are). The breading of the pawkaras was tasty though and the serving for the appetizer was LARGE! For the mains, there was no complaint! The rice was divine (I could eat that every day) and the eggplant just melts in your mouth! Overall our experience was fantastic and we’ll definitely be back!

Dinner for 3, lamb shoulder for each. Cooked and braised to perfection with rice and salad was absolutely to die for. 1st time me, 2nd for the Mrs and we will definately return for more!

My meal was fantastic - everything was well seasoned and delicious; the service was phenomenal and accommodating as well. It was difficult not to order one of everything off the menu.

Yum!! Good job...could use a bigger portion of fries and different type of pakawras...otherwise entrees were yum!!

I love their lamb shanks, and Turkish coffee are a must. Kids love the various kebabs and the taster platter is a hit. Ambiance and service were good, too. We were seated inside on the floor and the fact that it is so close to home is a big plus.

Had THE best dinner here this evening! The flavours in the food was amazing. I will definitely come back again.

I absolutely loved our visit to Afghan Kitchen, I don’t know where to begin! Firstly, the service is impeccable. Extremely friendly, informative and attentive. Water was constantly refilled and they always had suggestions to make and explained every item on our plates. We shared the beef, lamb, and chicken skewer platter with our friends. Omg, the meat was the most tender and juicy ever! So tasty along with the seasoned rice and dips (the eggplant and yogurt dips were my favourite, the rich mom’s secret dessert was enjoyed by my husband and our friends.

The live entertainment was amazing, first with colourful lights then throughout the restaurant belly dancing.

We loved our time there and we didn’t just have great food, but the entire experience was phenomenal. We can’t wait to go back!

Amazing chicken kebabs!! Prices are reasonable with 3-6 happy hour as well, definitely one of the best afghan restaurants in town, highly recommended!

The host, a male, was really rude. While the food was okay, the waitress was warm and friendly, the first point of contact was downright rude.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Afghan food having no previous exposure to the cuisine. Afghan Kitchen offers modernized versions of their home recipes in a space split between a standard dining room and a traditional floorspace. I was seated in the carpeted area where you sit on cushions on the floor making for a more intimate dining space. It felt almost as if you were dining in someone’s home, an inviting atmosphere for a wholesome feast.

Amazing food and service! It was our first time having Afghan food and we all loved it. I really liked the cocktail selection and enjoyed my Shararah! Spicy and sweet.

Great first experience to Afghan food. Super friendly staff, including our server Winnie who helped us order! Lamb is a must-try for its tenderness, but I also enjoyed the kabobs as well. Pakawras were also very addictive(not to mention vegan-friendly). What surprised me the most was the modern vibe of the restaurant and how welcoming it is to those that have never experienced the cuisine. Will definitely come back!

The food is well-prepared and consistently delicious. The staff there are very friendly and patient; they take the time to answer any questions about the menu. They also have an Afghan-style dining room where you sit on the cushions which also elevates the experience (optional). Overall a very pleasant experience! Would definitely recommend to others
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
Dine Out Vancouver brought us here! Located in an area of South Surrey along 24th Avenue crowded with restaurants, Afghan Kitchen is one of the unique ones. We arrived on Saturday evening at this lively, friendly room on time for our reservation and were quickly seated. Do make a reservation! This place will be busy! We were offered a table up a couple of stairs in a more traditional space where diners sit on pillows to enjoy their meals but unfortunately my knees would not agree to this so we were seated at a comfortable booth. The D.O.V. menu offers a couple of choices each of appetizer, entree and desert and we tried everything that we could. I realize that it is a little unfair to judge a restaurant by a menu that is created to suit the majority and does not show off a kitchen's unique and authentic creations but at least it is an introduction. The appetizers were Safred and Orange dips served with nicely grilled pita strips. Basically Hummus and Tsatziki, they were tasty and a nice start. Next came the entrees, Lamb Kebab and Beef Kebab. I was more than halfway through before I realized that both my partner and I were both eating beef but it was a little late to whine about it and frankly, we both enjoyed the beef. It was served with a very nice Basmati rice concoction with almonds, raisins and sweet shredded carrots, a taste of pickled shredded cabbage and a yogurt dip. Desert was the most memorable. We reveled in Mum's secret Cake. It was moist all the way through with sweetened condensed milk and almond while the Firni was also enjoyable, a milk pudding with almonds and dusted with Cardamom. We were fortunate to meet and talk to the owners (our server turned out to be one of the partners here, and both were out in the front lines, interacting with customers! ). The restaurant web site barely touches on the story of a family from Afghanistan who made their way from that war torn region eventually to Canada. Here in Canada a young man with a dream teamed up with a young woman with business acumen and Afghan Kitchen is the start. And let's not forget his Mum and her recipes and hand in the kitchen (and the secret recipe cake created with her own hands at home every day). I am tempted to go on a rant about how Canada is blessed by immigration and how the immigrant community creates jobs and economy. It does not does not take jobs as some narrow minded people claim. But this is about the food! Try this place out!
