Review Beijing Restaurant - Summerland

Jennifer Kirk
We ordered a chicken chow mein and pork dinner combo. Opened the box and thought maybe it was missing another part? The noodles looked like broken spaghetti or ramen - and the chicken was ghost white, boiled, placed on top of the plain noodles. Not a veggie, seasoning or sauce in sight. Literally plain chicken and plain noodles. The sweet/sour pork was meh, the fried wontons had nearly no filling. So bad all we could do was laugh about it.

Pretty good food. Wish they had a proper menu online other than the poor photos of their menu on Facebook. So here are some better menu photos.

The menu prices changed a little bit over the years and there is no more 10%, but the portions are really big - you get the bang for your buck! The food is really good, I am surprised by the freshness of the crispy foods and salad bar. I visit this place the most for Chinese food when I am in town!

Terrible Beef in the beef& broccoli. The beef was so swollen from over tenderizing, it was unflavored and wasn't pleasant. The portions were small and it was expensive. All 5 of us all thought it was awful tasting and when we called them to let them know they did nothing but say sorry and thanks for ordering. Never going back, do yourself a favor a skip this place theres a grocery store right beside this place.

We found the chicken chow mein to be soggy and covered in what can only be described as a sweet and soup sauce, with no vegetables it was like no chow mein we've ever seen. The noodles were cut into little 1 inch strands. The chicken fried rice was okay, but really had no evidence of being fried. The chicken was cut up into little 1cm cubes like how a child would eat it. The vegetables were definitely frozen. On an upside the front end staff were nice. We love to support local but not at such a low quality.

Buffet: simple , fresh and tasty. Dishes that were empty were filled by the second time around and hot. Chicken wings had a nice coating and were moist inside, both types of shrimp were excellent and sauces were varied and tasty on the meats. Good place to eat. Back area near the buffet is a bit dark and needs brighter daylight bulbs, or other solution ...sit near the front.

I'm a longtime local resident and have visited this establishment for the buffet and take out numerous times over the years. I hadn't been back for several years and decided to check them out again. For the price we paid the food was not even subpar. I was beyond disappointed in both the flavour and quality of the dishes. It was evident that the vegetables were frozen and the ginger beef was made with cheap cuts, most bites gristley or too fatty. The servers were friendly and competent, easy to deal with. I would not recommend this place to satisfy your chinese food craving.

1. Staff is rude 2. Staff doesn’t know the menu 3. Food is typical small town Chinese food, not authentic nor good. But I am not in Summerland for authentic Chinese food so I get it. Above two points are major turn off for me already.
