We love this place! Excellent ribs, much better than any I've tried at several different rib-fests in Ottawa over the years. They are often fall off the bone, always smokey delicious, and have a terrific sauce you can order on the ribs or on the side. Our other favourite is the poppers -- cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped, smoked jalapeno peppers; what is not to love! The owners are super friendly too and as well as their regular menu (ribs, pulled pork, brisket, etc.), often cook up other options such as scotch eggs (very delicious). The food is reasonably priced for both quality and quantity. This place is well worth the drive.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place after missing the flea market entrance today and what a perfect find! First of all the service, if I could I would give it 10 stars!! The man and woman who were there were extremely friendly and throughout our meal brought us some samplers for us to try. I will specifically mention those Kool-Aid pickles, because OMG they were delicious, when we go back, I’ll ask to buy a jar of them! Everything was absolutely yummy, we had a brisket and pulled pork sandwich, which I must say I appreciated that the man suggest cutting them in half for us so what we could share. The brisket was really good and the pulled pork was amazing. As sides we had tasty Jalapeno poppers with bacon and chicken wings. We also had a chance to try some free day old ribs which I really loved! You could tell the food was smoked the whole way, the way it should be and not just for the last hour after being baked, you could taste the difference. The attention to detail in the service really impressed us and the food was great, we’ll definitely be back!
Pulled Pork and Fixins. Didn't get the bun because I'm watching my calories

Real BBQ. Excellent authentic bbq, had 1/2 rack, and pulled pork dinner (Mac and cheese and beans) this is bbq done right with a good smoke ring and good prices. Owners are proud of what they serve and it shows, will be back for sure.
Spot On!. My wife found this place and took me for fathers day. This place is the real deal!! You can tell the owners have done their research... authentic southern BBQ at a great price. We frequently make the trek from Barrhaven, and have never been dissapointed.
This place is amazing. I'm lucky enough to live very closeby so I'm there every weekend and everytime I go it's like a little piece of heaven.
When I first went, it was all pulled pork and sides (which are amazing in itself) but they've expanded their menu with bacon wrapped sausages and bbq wings. I've had it all and it's all good. The pulled pork is really flavorful. The wings and bacon wrapped sausages are cooked just right and SO good. They are my extra pig out order along with my piggy plate (pulled pork sandwhich and 2 sides).
The service is fast and friendly and I've never had any complaints.
This is definitely on of my favorites in Ottawa and will be for quite some time.
Cant stop thinking about it. I've been twice now this winter, most recently in mid-February 2014 and I love it. The pulled pork sandwich is a good sized serving. It's nicely sauced, very satisfying. I've had pulled pork at a few places and at the summer ribfest, and I've had some I liked and a couple that were kind of blah, but this one is the best I've tried by far. The sauce is sweet but not too sweet and the meat is tender, but not mushy. I got cole slaw on the side, it's also got some sweetness but not too much, I mixed some in the sandwich and it went really well.
I also tried their chicken legs, not sure if they have it every day, and you really get the smoke flavour with these. Very tender and although I went later in the day and we were told they had dried out a bit by then, they were a hit.
I've tried the mac and cheese and it's a winner also, very cheesy, but for sides, I can't stop thinking about the baked beans. I never knew what baked beans could be like. It's so good I can barely describe it. Whether it's the smoke or the sauce (they do put some pulled pork in it) I don't know, all I can say is, I would go back for the beans alone. They taste really really good. The cornbread is also very good, again you really taste the wood smoke with it.
Both visits were satisfying. We left full, and happy, and still had money in the wallet. I went on Sunday both times, check their Twitter or Facebook to see when they are open, usually till 3-4 PM.
Killier BBQ In the Suburbs. The menu at Double D's is short and sweet but his narrow focus on doing just a few things very well is a smart one. When you get your food, it may not immediately appear like you got a lot of quantity for your money but looks are deceiving. Despite the relatively small appearance of my $10 Piggie Plate, I was easily filled up from lunch until dinner. The quality of the food is fantastic, no doubt as a result of his unique selling point which is having his own on-site smoker pit. I had the beans and mac n' cheese and they were both exquisite, as was the corn bread (though the muffins are a bit tiny.) The service is also top notch and the only seems like a super nice guy. I unfortunately didn't get to try this place until close to when he closes for the season (even though I drive by it on my commute every day) but I will be trying to go at least once or twice more this year. If you like pulled pork, I dare say this is worth a trip out to Stittsville, even if you live elsewhere in town.
REAL Southern BBQ in Canada!. I am VERY particular eater when it comes to BBQ and without a doubt this is the absolute BEST BBQ I have eaten in Canada! And I would certainly say it beats a lot I have eaten in the souther states as well. Perfectly smoked pork, great sauce, perfect slaw, the mac and cheese may be the best I have ever eaten. I make some very awesome mac n' cheese but yours beats even mine! Yummy cornbread and both types of beans we tried were perfect as well!
Awesome eating! You won't find anything like it north of the Carolinas or Kansas City!
Worth the 53k trip and boat ride across the river for sure!
Having some REAL sweet tea instead of the vile Nestea swill was a real plus too and the Cheerwine (from North Carolina) really rounds off the authenticity!
Amazing bbq. We had ribs, brisket, cornbread and beans. It was all outstanding. The ribs were succulent and fall off the bone, the brisket was tender and juicy with little strips of bark, not dry nor greasy and the beans and cornbread were excellent sides. The beans aren't super sweet, more of a chili flavour and the cornbread wasn't too dry. We'll definitely be back!
It's easy to miss but well worth a stop. I've driven by it hundreds of times without thinking twice but finally stopped in. The food was great and the service was fast. The plates are a meal and a half.
Great bbq/smoke pit. Pulled pork, brisket, bacon 🥓 wrapped sausage and ribs. Reasonable prices.
Tried the bbq brisket and Mac and cheese. The brisket was excellent and the service was great. We ate outside on the sun filled picnic tables. Will definitely be coming back.
Just finished eating here, and let me tell you that it was a truly amazing experience!
My fiance and I were craving some good BBQ, so we decided to give this little shack a try, and we are not disappointed at all!
We ordered the 1/2 lb of brisket and 1/2 of pulled pork with cornbread and water on the side.
The brisket was nicely peppered, smoked and flavourful. The pulled-pork was extremely moist and delicious. Hands-down the best brisket and pulled pork I have ever had in my lifetime. So good!
Plus, the sauce they offered on the side for each meats was absolutely amazing! Tangy, light in viscosity but with a powerful taste! The owners need to bottle and sell that sauce to stores for sure!
The two owners seemed to be husband and wife, and were extremely kind, homely and generous! The male owner kept bringing my fiance and I complimentary foods to try. He first brought these very unique pickles which were red, sweet and somewhat "candied". They were very yummy! He later brought my fiance and I bacon-wrapped jalepenos stuffed with a creamy-cheese. It was the bomb!
The hospitality, food taste, the great owners and the cute atmosphere makes this place one of my go-to food locations for sure!
Very friendly and accommodating service, we purchased a few items to share and they were put into a few extra containers to make things easier. The brisket and Pork were very good. The platters are worth it, just so you can try a little bit of everything, because the sides are amazing too!
It’s definitely worth the trip to Carp rd. Especially if you’re craving something a little different! Looking forward to the next time!
My wife and I showed up right around closing time with our 1 year old daughter. The staff were incredible to us and gave us food for our baby girl free of charge. They also offered a generous discount as they were out of cornbread for the day. The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were both excellent.
Had the pulled pork sandwich plate. The food was excellent! The pork was very tender, the bun very nice. Beans had a nice spiciness to them which went very well with the meat. Owner also offered us some complimentary pickles and chili poppers which were excellent. Amazing service. Warmly recommended. 🙂
