Have been here many times... but ate there for lunch yesterday... had the all you can eat. ($17.99). Was there at 1130am when it opened so not busy. Service was great and at the pace speed we expected for an all you can eat lunch. Food was great. For the AYCE option, you are given a form, you check off the food items you want... then the server will take and place order. We used 3 forms... you can get as many as you like. Good selection on the AYCE menu, but it is not their full menu. Also, the items on this menu are smaller proportioned. I heard they are getting a bubble tea place next door... awesome!
I always love sun sushi and come here often but today the waitress suggested a special roll and neither of us had it before so we ordered it and loved it. Always so fresh and delicious 🍣🍱
Was a little skeptics when I saw the young fellow in the kitchen. But he exceeded all expectations with excellent tasting food. Way to go. Made for great evening!
I am so glad that Kenmount rd is open. I have gone to all three places and loved the food and the people there. Keep up the good work. Will be going there for lunch today. Can not wait.
Awesome food and excellent service highly recommended
I had the all-you-can-eat dinner for $27.99, which sounds expensive, but not when you consider that one roll is over $10. Sushi was very good, as were the gyoza. Not a big fan of the fried udon with seafood.
Easily my favourite place in St. john's for sushi or any type of Japanese cuisine. Their all-you-can-eat buffet is a must if you agree that one roll of Sun Sushi's sushi is never enough. Service is kind (even after eating far more than my fair share of sushi during their lunch buffet), and the restaurant is clean and tasteful. The restaurant's regular menu offers many great noodle/rice bowls and dishes, making it a prime place for a date as well. My only issue was that the Sun Sushi on Duckworth Street has only a glass door separating the inside of the restaurant from the outdoors which can cause an uncomfortable draft when customers are entering and leaving the restaurants. Overall, however, the restaurant is a great spot for those who enjoy foreign foods and endless sushi.
This was one of our favourite eating places in our visit to St. John's and we have highly recommended it to friends who have recently visited and they found it equally fantastic. The service was great and all food was hot when served.
We have a habit of ordering a fairly significant number of items at this type of place so unless writing them down - which we did not - memories tend to melt.
We do remember liking everything and would definitely return of we ever visit again.
One of my favourite places to eat! Love the food here. Service could certainly be better though.
I really enjoyed this place.. I came in later in the evening during the summer when I was in St John's for business. The service was friendly and helpful, the sushi was delicious and some of it was a little out there. Like the vegetable tempura roll which was strangely enormous and had a medley of different vegetables including broccoli. Had someone described it to me before I had tasted it I would have told them they were crazy, but it was delicious, as was everything else.
If I'm ever back in St John's I would eat there again.
I had the chirashi, and it satisfied my sashimi/ sushi cravings. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth fresh and I ordered a salmon nigiri for "dessert". I'm a sushi-er and this is one of the best. The service was great and it was busy. Would come back!
I read the reviews for this place and was a bit deterred by the negative comments. I actually tried another place instead but it was closed so I returned to Sun Sushi and was extremely impressed by the freshness and quality of the food. It was fantastic and so was the service. Check ups, order taking and the bill were all perfectly timed. I have no idea what people are complaining about especially since I mainly eat sashimi and nigiri. This caused me to check some of the reviewers and I noticed many of the negative comments came from accounts that only had ever left one review, that one, which is never trustworthy. So try Sun Sushi and judge for yourself.
Its ok... Their selection is okay for Newfoundland, but the prices are WAY too high and the service is usually terrible.
I really liked sun sushi but I wish they had my combo options so you could try a bit of everything.
One of my favorite places! No complaints!
Nice Downtown Sushi Spot. I'm a picky sushi eater but I do like Sun Sushi especially their bento boxes. This restaurant is ideally situated in a downtown location. You can always take a stroll along Water Street after eating.
Always ordered take out from there so don't know about the service. Not a big seafood fan but their stir frys are awesome!
Good sushi but the service is lacking. Dishes come out randomly (one diner may get their main before another gets their appetizer)
Excellent sushi and menu, terrible service. Waitress rude and inattentive. Took three trys to get tea, finally by getting the attention of the owner. However, the quality and choice of food makes it worth another visit.
Best sushi in st johns... Friendly service..
If you are a sushi lover, Sun Sushi would be your go to place. I always go for their all you can eat menu. Starting from fish tempuras to all different sushi rolls, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was kind, attentive and welcoming.
We were treated as guests with genuine kindness and that in itself is worth the 5 stars.
The food was served in a timely manner and everything was delicious. In visiting St. John’s, this is the most warm service we’ve had.
Definitely recommend this lovely little spot if you love sushi!
Wonderful first experience!
Every server that came to us was friendly and attentive, the menu had lots of options without being overwhelming, and everything tasted amazing.
We came by for something quick and easy and service was just that- you are brought water and miso soup right away and our food was ready within minutes of ordering. We started with calamari (which isn’t actually deep fried, something I’ve never had but absolutely loved!) and had to reorder later as it was so good. I ordered a roll from the menu and my partner asked for one with a combination of things to avoid an allergy and to be surprised and the chef did not disappoint. He did the same for his next roll which was fantastic as well.
Portions are great, service is wonderful, and I can’t wait to go back:)
Amazing food, lovely service. It’s always a great time here.
Excellent service, friendly staff, great food, and reasonable prices. Best sushi for your dollar in St John's.
Well worth a visit!
