Review Piatto - St. John's

First time visiting this joint. Food was fresh and tasty. Very lively atmosphere and staff were friendly. This ended up being a 4-star review only because I found service was slow even for a Friday evening. It made me feel if we were seated on the main floor we would have gotten more attention due to visibility. It seemed like there was only one server for upstairs and multiple downstairs. I also felt pricing is a bit steep but quality is definitely there so no stars deducted but anyone thinking of going should be aware.

Excellent, efficient service from our server Tyler. We had the $15 lunch special of 9" pizza and salad. It was under an hour from my arrival to leaving with a belly full of delicious wood-fired pizza and beet walnut salad. Would return. Recommend reservations online as they can be quite busy during lunch time.

Great pizza. Great sandwiches. Good environment. My waiter was working outside, upstairs, and the area I was in. Other waitresses and waiters seemed less overwhelmed. Other waitresses seemed to help us when he was not available. Overall great food and friendly folks. Thank you!

This pizza place has a nice outdoor patio. We ordered the Stephanie, Funghi e Gorgonzola and Piero pizzas. The pizzas are made fresh in a wood oven and this adds a smoke flavour to the food. However, the crust was too chewy for me which was quite disappointing. The service was quick but the waitress forgot to bring us the extra sauce that we requested!

The food here was fantastic, the service was even better. We were a party of three and ate outside. We all had the lunch special which consisted of a 9" pizza of your choice and soup or salad for $17, great price. We ordered 2 Caprese salads and a Cesar salad. All were fresh and tasty. The pizzas ordered were Siciliana, Capricciosa + Ananas, and the Margerita. The pizza was absolutely perfect and delicious. Crust was thin and crisp with just the right amount of toppings. One of our party is actually from Italy, and it's the best pizza she has had outside Italy yet. Our server was Emma G., who was very attentive 💯% ,eventhough the restaurant was busy, and took care of any requests we had promptly. The lady who was seating customers, while also cleaning tables, was absolutely awesome and definitely made our day by getting us a seat outside. If you are reading this and haven't been to Piatto yet, what are you waiting for? You won't be disappointed! Highly recommend 👌 👍.

Piatto Pizzeria is an absolute delight. They have mastered the simplicity and beauty of a great pizza. The most simple pizza is as delicious as their creative pizza’s, which impress the paler with perfectly balanced flavours. I wouldn’t hesitate to try any item on their menu. We ordered the Arancini to start, and for our pizza’s to share we chose “The Stephanie” and “The Amanti della Carne”. “The arancini” was so good. Just like Nonna’s. It was like living a beautiful memory in a dish. “The Stephanie” is really special. I’ve travelled the world since the first time I had this pizza and never found anything like it anywhere. I was thrilled to be back in St. John’s to order this again. The balance of sweet, salty and savoury is perfection. “The Amanti della Carne” is a lovely pizza with just enough kick for those who like a little spice. The only things that could take this experience up a notch would be the details. Offering water to your guests when they are seated, plates on the side for the pizza for sharing or simply eating off the giant one, and portion considerations for the antipasti, knowing people share and creating the portions with that in mind. I can’t wait to be in town again soon to Come back!

Amazing food and great service! You're going to pay an arm and a leg for it though but I would recommend it to anyone who has a reason to celebrate! My server had great recommendations and I enjoyed all of them. The only thing I would ding them on is maybe the beer. I wasn't a fan of it. A little weak. Everything else was great though. Highly recommend!

It was really nice - good menu selections and helpful/polite staff. I reserved a star because it is a chain. Update - okay, I'll give it 5 stars, because it originated in St. John's (and the food is really good.) It does have a "slick" chain feel, though, and it has every sign of chain/franchise aspirations. That's not a bad thing: more people will get to enjoy it, the owners will get the rewards they deserve, and it might even boost the NL economy! But, loud/popular/slick is not my personal top choice in dining experience.

We went there at 9 p.m., our server was in a hurry (not sure why?), she didn't let us choose the comfortable seats although 3 of them were empty and a couple were seated on the comfortable ones, the food was good (not great) and I didn't like the cocktail (to be fair somebody else might like it), and then she forgot to bring the spicy oil and although my wife was still eating her salad, she wanted to take the salad (it was half full) and finally we paid about 90 bucks and didn't enjoy our meal at all. I would not recommend this place.

We visited Piatto last night to taste the burger featured in the burger battle. What an awful experience, please save your stomach and don't try this burger. It was just plain awful and we should have sent it back after the first bite. We tried to like it and figure out what was making it insanely salty, it was just like eating pure salt by the spoon. It was just awful, all of it. We mentioned it to the waitress and she said thank you for the feedback. We went home and suffer for the rest of the night with lips, mouth and stomachs burning from the excess sodium. We go there frequently and I have to say I am never impressed with the service and had some disappointing pizzas there before with very slim toppings, this may have been the last straw.

I really wanted to like it, as the Piatto location downtown is a favourite of mine and I hate giving bad reviews. While the food was great as always (with the exception of the cappucino I had; the espresso had a burnt taste and the drink was lukewarm when I got it), I feel the customer service there should be re-evaluated. It was not busy, but there was still 5 minutes between when an employee saw me and when she actually asked if I was served. Yes, that doesn't seem like a whole lot of time, but when there's plenty of servers on the floor and not much customer traffic, it's noticeable. Was rushedly brought to a table, given a menu, then another 10 minutes before someone came to take my order. No offer to get me a drink or anything, just "what can I get for you?". Did not check up on me at all during my meal. Overall I felt unwelcomed and rushed by the staff here, and felt bothersome to the staff when asking for a water or the Wifi password. I will likely stick to visiting the downtown location.

Myself and my girlfriend went in on her lunch break, as it was only 4pm and not busy in the restaurant, only 4 other tables occupied. Ordered at 4:10, app of meat and cheese, and the Americana pizza. App took about 20 minutes to get to the table, and the pizza took over an hour to arrive after ordering. The app came with Flatbread that came out cold and dry. The pizza itself was burnt around the edges, and the center was very undercooked and by the time it came to the table the cheese was cold and hardened on the top. Not a place I would recommend.

Had a gluten-free crust white pizza and it was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had!

Besides the food being awesome, the service we received by our server(joe) was impeccable!! He went above and beyond to be sure we were satisfied! We will be back for sure, and I highly recommend checking this place out!!

Came in last Wednesday for lunch, hour and a half later we were done with our food after Caesar salad that sat at the pass for 15 minutes with a slice of bread that could be used as a weapon. 30 - 40 minutes later we got our pizzas, I ordered the Stephanie and had one slice before being sick of it because of the burnt taste and it being drowned in balsamic vinegar. A friend had a hair in theirs as well as a mouldy tasty. This was besides seeing a worker run her hands through her hair repeatedly before putting garnishes on pizza as well as a pizza maker using the metal pizza peel to move boxes around as well as plates and food. It's a shame because this was one of my favourite spots.

Consistently excellent meals, with a professional staff, fresh and authentic ingredients, and a wine selection that in my opinion matches perfectly with the menu. Highly recommended.

Went there last Friday on a date. Ordered the Pacchi di Prosciutto and Focaccia alla Napoletana as appetizers, along with 2 pizzas. Selected Shock Top and Peroni from the server's list of available beer. When the Peroni came out, I was told that Shock Top was actually unavailable. The pizzas came, but the appetizers did not. When questioned, the server said that they take longer to make than the pizza, which led to the cancellation of the order. It was pretty busy, and we felt that this was done in an attempt to flip our table quickly, particularly with the previous claim. The pizza itself was VERY good, but I ended up with 1/3 of my original order at the end of the night.

Good food.. just keep in mind there is an automatic gratuity for large parties.. just keep in mind in case you accidentally double tip.

I had a very nice time at this restaurant. We were seated and got our drinks and appetizers pretty quick, there was a bit of a wait for the pizza it's self but they apologize and explained the reason for the wait so we were satisfied with that. When pizza came it was awesome. Then we had dessert and that to was amazing. I will be back!

Food is amazing, service at this location has usually been good (but the service at the dt location is often fantastic). Piatto is one of my fave places to eat because the pizza is just so good!

Really enjoyed my first visit here. The food was excellent,and that's saying something since I am a very picky person when it comes to food. I will definitely be back.

Had an incredible time, amazing food, and some of the best service i've ever had! Music was a little loud, but i'll chalk that up to Friday night.

Yummy as always but very challenging to go because my son is hard to convince. There is no simple or Childs menu and he never eats or likes what they have. There isn't a child size pizza either so what I order him always goes home in a box. we'd go there more often if there was some small simple pizzas to order or a menu for kids.

My family of five celebrating our youngest' 9th bday. Food was fabulous as usual and our server, Rachel, was awesome too. Love that there is a great place to eat with cool fibe in our east end neighbourhood.
