Review Pj Billington's Restaurant - St. John's

I loved this restaurant but it's been closed since the Covid outbreak, hopefully it will open soon. The food was awesome and it had a very nice atmosphere, you can relax and feel like your in your own private space. The staff were always very friendly, if or when it opens again, I would greatly recommend trying it out.

I have given this place multiple tries and unfortunately I (nor my company) have ever had warm meals. they always come out cool/cold . is there not a warming area? If so -it is broken. Also seems they are always understaffed giving one person all responsibilities (host, bar, server, cashier) - who is not to blame. The staff member has always been patient and friendly. The serving sizes are ok - prices high (being in a hotel I suspect). Ordering the prime rib medium rare gets you well done. Salmon is always well over cooked too. I can say the Seafood Chowder is awesome - however - again a bit overpriced. Done giving them chances.

Went on a date here and I did not have too high of expectations and yet they were abundantly exceeded. The decor of the restaurant looks quite beautiful and relaxing (although very old fashioned which may not be everyones taste). Our server was very sweet to us and the food was honestly delicious! I had a chickpea tomota curry kind of dish (forget the actual name) and my date enjoyed a stir fry. Both were large in portion sizing and were very good! I would highly recommend to give this spot a try, great for a family dinner, less so on the romantic side.

If I could give half stars I would have rated PJ Billingtons 3.5. We were seated promptly, and our server was very attentive. Drinks came quickly. Food arrived promptly. The mussels were delicious and the wings were tasty. Our entrees lacked flavor, were pretty bland and forgettable. Overall service was great and the food was ok.

Great spot for supper (haven't gone here for lunch or breakfast). They have a new menu that, as far as I am aware of, is fantastic. Everyone in my party of 4 enjoyed their meal. The only complaint was an overly greasy onion ring out of 2 apps, 4 entrés and 1 dessert; which brings me to the apple pie and ice cream which was amazing. Hot pie and cold ice cream, "after" photo attached.

We stopped here for dinner after 8h of driving around 8pm. The place had a couple of large tables, but for the most part, was empty. Our waitress did not bring us our 'packaged' buns with our dinner, of which I had to ask for since we were starving. Apps came out about an hour after ordering (Garlic bread), and dinner arrived around 9:45pm. At no point did they tell us the wait for food would be over an hour. And at no point did the waitress inform us about the long wait. Nothing was super complicated - burgers and salad. Food was alright.

My husband and I recently spent 9 days at the Ramada and ate the majority of our meals at your restaurant. The meals were excellent. The service was spectacular, especially from Sarah and Katie. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Food was ok..left kinda hungry. Waitress Gave us warm water with no ice, waited 25mins to even get our order taken and there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. My girlfriend left a tipped cause she felt bad but the waitress definitely didn't deserve it. Felt ignored the whole time and she barely cracked a smile while picking her teeth and nails while we were paying her. Definitely wouldn't go back.

Went with a friend. I order the tagliatelle arrabbiata with a side order of the roasted beet and goat cheese salad. My pasta was overcooked and mushy. It was too large of a portion of noodles, and lacking in sauce...which I'm pretty sure was just Ragu. The italian sausage was thinly sliced and cut in half. This I assume, was done to give an illusion of more sausage. The side roasted beet goat cheese salad was served on a half moon shaped plate. These plates are not designed for salad!!! It was a handful of greens, overall very delicious, but the size of portion is not worth $7 or $8. My friend ordered the fisherman's platter. The fish portion was overcooked and small, the scallops were overcooked, and the shrimp were overcooked. He ordered mashed potatos instead of fries or salad, and was given a small soup spoon portion of mashed potato. for $25 a plate very disappointing!!! Overall, small portions and overcooked. The hostess and waitress were excellent and charming. They were lovely. It is disappointing the food quality did not compare. Overall very disappointed. Have visited before, your nachos and burgers are good quality, perhaps stick to pub food only. Doubt we will revisit. :(

I have to say this the food maybe could have been good if it wasn't cold. We had spin dip sent it back because it was cold got a second one and it was cold. Had mashed potato it was cold. Two other friends had mashed potato it was cold. Another friend had a platter of wings ,chips, onion rings, bread. The cheese on the chips wasn't even melted. The bruschetta was on bread had it soggy better of having it on the side. So I had my meal took it home so I could make it hot and eat it. That is pretty sad. The positives about this place love the decor and the waitress was truly lovely. Will I go back maybe sometime to try a meal in the daytime sometimes that can make a difference.

Taste was okay. Everything was cold. By the time waiter came back to check I had eaten some so didn't see point of asking to take it back. Was raining outside so leak above where we were sitting

I went to PJs for breakfast with 4 other couples and enjoyed it to the fullest. Home made fish cakes were awesome. Price was very reasonable for a full home made style breakfast. Atmosphere was also great

I’ve been going to PJ Billingtons for years, and I absolutely love it! The new Steak Tip Sandwich might be the best sandwich I’ve ever had. (I’m not kidding!) See you soon PJ’s!

Went there for breakfast with four others. The service was great, and the food was delicious. We ordered omelettes, and 'the winner' breakfasts. Both dishes were great! You could tell that they were all prepared fresh and to order. Good portions and affordable in comparison to some breakfast spots in St. John's, definitely will be back!!

Dropped in a few weeks ago and tried the carbonara from their new menu, it was great. Good to see them revamping the menu, I can’t wait to try more of it.

Great supper last night for my wife our 2-1/2 yr old and my wife's parents. They enjoyed jigs dinner w roast turkey, my wife had hot turkey sandwich and I had the ribs. Everything was bang on. My little girl wanted mac & cheese but wasn't on the menu. They made a cheesy version of the fettuccine alfredo and she loved it. Service was great!
