We ate here a few weeks ago for my girlfriend's birthday. Not only were the operators incredibly accommodating and friendly with helping me make the night special, but we were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. This is the most authentic Mexican I have ever had in St. John's. We loved every bite we took, and felt that the amount and quality of the food provided incredibly value. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Soul Azteka to anyone looking to try a new location. If you like Mexican food I assure you that you will not be disappointed.
We will be visiting on a regular basis, this place is fantastic!
Food was fantastic! I forgot to ask about lettuce and sour cream, not even sure if they are even a thing in authentic mexican. Its good that we have a place that serves good, hot mexican food!
Veggie black bean burrito was delicious, homemade salsa and the side salad were incredible! Great view of the river. Will return!
Authentic Mexican experience, from the music to the decor to the pictures on the wall, you have to be there to enjoy it. They greet you with complimentary nachos with their homemade salsa which was delicious.
Portions are just enough to leave the table full not bloated. If you like spicy try the shrimp signature taco, and if you like cheese try the enchiladas. I really liked that you can add a side dish to your tacos and they are quite full dishes. I only wish if they opened longer on Sundays to add a menu for take out on Sunday evenings, I'm sure they will when they find the demand.
Love this restaurant. The best Mexican food in the city, bar none.
[Update: they have limited seating available now (January 2019) in the restaurant.]
Currently (November 2018) operating as a take-out or delivery place only, nowhere to go in and sit down for a meal. This will change though so check back if you’re looking for an eat-in experience.
One of my friends poi Ted me to this restaurant. Being a fan of tacos and spicy food he said I'd love it.
I walked in and looked at all the options on the menu, and was having a hard time deciding on what to go with, when the owner suggested the gringo tacos. He told me they were his take on the fast food variety.
I got those to go, along with a side of guacamole and Mexican rice (they come with 1 side already). The tacos were loaded with meat and fresh veggies. The house made guacamole add even more flavour to an already good taco.
The Mexican rice was hands down the best I've had here in town. I also took an order of the house spicy salsa home and tried it with some tortilla chips. It had a bit of kick to it but not overwhelming and was very good flavorful. I'm ooking forward to going back again so I can sample some of the other flavours!
Very good Mexican food. Tortillas are the best I’ve ever had and the salsa was fresh made and bright. Service was good. Deserts were ok. The restaurant itself is pretty rough which detracts from the experience. Overall very good!
Excellent, authentic Mexican food. Fresh and loads of flavor. So refreshing to finally have a good Mexican restaurant in St. John's. Cozy atmosphere, very welcoming. Definitely going back again soon!
I've never been to Mexico, but I have had friends from Mexico and visited other Authentic Mexican restaurants in California and Ontario. This has been bar none the best food I've had at a Mexican restaurant.
If you're a connoisseur of the chain Subway style "Mexican" restaurants or think nachos are pretty darn ethnic, you're likely not going to enjoy this food. If you like flavours that melt into each other without being drowned in cheese and sour cream then you're in for a treat. This is definitely the best Mexican food you'll find in Newfoundland (trust me, I've tried them all). AND the prices are amazing!
The atmosphere is - like some of the best authentic restaurants I've been to - a little "hole-in-the-wall"ish. But it works. From the "tin" cups to the Lucha Libre masks on the wall you feel like you're in a small non-touristy family owned business in Mexico itself.
Amazing food. Great prices. What else can you ask for?
Thanks to the owner for the update on why the place was closed. I have not had a chance to try them yet, but I upped my review as they were responsive.
Located at the farmers market and a food truck

"I am pretty sure that this place is closed. We went there yesterday because it had such great reviews and there is brown paper on the windows with a big lease sign in the window. Not really sure what happened but sad that we can't try this place. if the owner reads this review and they have moved somewhere, please let me know and I will come visit."
