Gypsy Tea Room is one of my go-to restaurants in the city. It's a great place to go for happy hour, a nice dinner, brunch or lunch -- they have it all. I've also been to countless events here and I'm amazed at how the staff can adapt the space to each function! I once booked their conference room for a group workshop for my business, and it's rare to find a place that's quiet, comfortable, and has all the audio-visual capabilities you need (even a Smartboard). Kudos to the team at Gypsy Tea Room for all that they do!
We had our wedding here last night.. couldn’t of asked for a better place, the staff and environment were phenomenal! Cant say enough about this place! Thank you all again! It was a pleasure
The best fish and chips. Really the best fish in the courtyard on Friday. And, good staff. Thanks
We had a wonderful dining experience, beautiful atmosphere, cozy and intimate. The food and service was outstanding! I would recommend the tenderloin, it was delicious!
Wow! The Gypsy Tea Room is fabulous! I had a wonderful meal there on Tuesday with my two sisters & we had such a fantastic experience - the food was exceptional & service was top notch! And Doug, our host, must be related to us because he could not have treated us any better! We will be back again! Thank you!
Nice Wednesday special ! hot food ,Great service, cool spot for a drink and conversation without loud music, love people watching out front :-)
Great place, great food and welcoming staff.
Spent our anniversary dinner at the Gypsy Tea Room. We've been here previously, but have decided to leave a review as we have a consistent experience at this establishment.
Service was excellent. We were checked on frequently, our glasses were never empty, and we were given updates on the arrival of our meal. The wait staff recommended their daily special (the salmon dish). It was delicious and should be a regular item on their menu.
The lobster rigatoni pasta meal was also quite good, but on the rich side as they add dressing to the meal. A little more sauce would help soak up the bread, and a bit more spice to balance the plate.
Overall, we will be returning to the Gypsy Tea Room for future meals. Thank you!
We had our wedding here and it was everything we wanted! Doug and his staff went above and beyond. They were so accommodating, the environment was so relaxing. He calmed my nerves before the wedding and during (bride). The food was amazing, everybody loved it. The venue was a really good price and it was beautiful.
Happy Bride, groom, family and friends! I would recommend 10 times over!

This restaurant/bar is a nice and fancy place for an evening meal in St. John's. We went in around 21:20 local time and were seated at a table. There was a main menu and a lounge menu, as well as a drink menu. We shared some large nachos and duck wings, which were both superbly cooked. I've never had western style duck wings so they were pleasantly delicious indeed. The nachos were large and suitable for 3-4 people. My friend ordered the lobster linguini or something. I recommend this place. The drinks were good too. I have the michelob ultra and it was tasty. Very very lite.
Our waiter was super nice. He said it's his first day/week on the job but he did really well. I didn't get his name but he was very nice and friendly.
Good vibes. Good food. Come here.
The food was very good. The Brie was exquisite, the duck special was outstanding, gypsy salad delicious and refreshing. Not to forget the calamari just yum. The cocktails were also good
The service stuttered when the crowd appeared but it caught back up
Delicious food. We sat on the patio and had a wonderful time watch the pedestrian mall.
I recently made reservations here for my parents to try. They had a very pleasant experience here. The staff were friendly the food was on time, fresh and flavourful. Ordered the calamari and curry chowder for appetizers and for the main they both had Cajun chicken linguini. Overall great spot for a date night or special occasion.
We were a group of 4, ordering different dishes. The staff were very friendly!
Watermelon Mojito: delicious, light and fresh - 5 stars!
Cod: delicious, side vegetables (snap peas and carrots) were excellent
Burger: just an average burger, had a bit if a spice which overpowered the rest of it a little, fries were really good
Salmon: delicious, with a fantastic sauce! But the mashed potatoes were the real star of the dish - incredible!
Nachos: were average, not quite enough cheese so the toppings fell off easily
Carmel cheesecake: perfect balance of light and creamy, lovely caramel sauce
Chocolate torte: rich and smooth, strawberry sauce was nice and fresh but it could have used a bit more
My cousin & I came in for lunch. The staff was very attentive & went out of their way to make us feel special. My cousin ordered the turkey brie something with pepper soup which she loved. I ordered the blackened salmon which I didn't care for much but I would still come here again.
PS. Do not miss their addictive chocolate mints which they so generously plied me with!
Ate lunch here with our 2 children ages 5 and 7. We ordered soup, poutine and Brie. Everyone enjoyed everything. Our service was very friendly and we really enjoyed our experience here.
The food was unbelievably delicious!!
Basically anything that we ordered was great!
Staff were super friendly and professional!
Loved it!
Beautiful wedding venue with great cocktails. Only negative thing I could note is the business name being a racial slur, which has kept me from going there for years until I attended wedding there. Hopefully they rename it someday soon to be less offensive. Other than the name, great spot. Beautiful inside.
The food was amazing and fresh! The service led by Ashley and helped by Matt and Olivia was also terrific. We had a great time and I would highly recommend you book this for any event or just for a night out in Halifax for great service and food! Loved it and what a great first experience in St John's
I am visiting Newfoundland and visited the Gypsy Tea Room. Beautiful restaurant and food, but the real star of the experience was our server Ursula. She went beyond and above and really showed us true Newfoundland Hospitality. We will be back just for her! She had amazing recommendations of the menu, nightlife, and true “Newfie” experiences!
