Review Antipastos - St. Catharines

We just moved to the area, and were hoping to find an Italian/Mediterranean grocery to frequent, and boy were we lucky. This place is amazing, great selection of frozen and ready to go meals. We had the meat lasagna, and were very pleased. We’ve also tried their house pasta sauce, and it was excellent. This will definitely become one of our go-to stores. We will return.

Awesome Italian grocery/deli . Always stop here when passing through the area. Great homemade pasta sauces, hot bar for fast meals to go and homemade pastries.

On way home from Niagara on the Lake last weekend we stopped off to get frozen meatballs and frozen sausages for meatball subs. They were the regular, 3-meat balls in a frozen sauce. Thawed them out, toasted our buns, added cheese and bit in. We are looked at each other at the same time and were disgusted. They were soft and had the consistency of sawdust. I swear they were grounded with breadcrumbs, spices and who knows what else, perhaps 5% was meat? Our dinner was ruined. Great meatballs for people who have false teeth or no teeth. How disappointing. We are going to try the sausages today. Fingers crossed.

Went in around noon and bought 5 different small desserts for my moms 50th birthday. She bit into the first one and said it tasted like mold. It was the chocolate bomb. She peeled off the outer chocolate and there was a bunch of mold. i know there is no way that the mold grew between noon when we bought it and 9pm when we had dessert. Right away ruined our whole dessert and we didn’t touch any of the others. For an almost $5 small piece of cake you would expect it to not have mold. Who knows how long ago that was made. Honestly disgusting.

At 12 noon today, June 29th, 2022, I purchased an Assorted Italian Foccia sandwich and 2 garden salads from the stores cold display case. The sandwich was fine, however, the salads which were served for supper at 6:30 pm the same day were horrible. The salads had obviously been left over from Monday, June 27th as the cucumbers were so soft and not edible. The romaine lettuce in the salad had brown colouring on every single piece. We shop at Antipastos at least once a week. You can ask your Cashier, Dana, as I speak to her every time I am in the store. She will verify that I am a regular shopper at Antipastos. If you are going to sell salads that are a day or 2 old, you should not be selling them at the regular price. You should let your clients know that the salads are discounted as they are one or 2 days old. It has happened before with the salads, but this is the absolutely worst ever. I would prefer to pay the full price and have fresh quality for the money. Just a hint for future shoppers: Check the bottom of the salad container & if you see brown on the Romaine lettuce don’t buy it. The only alternative is to ask for a freshly made salad to go…even then the deli servers say there are some pre made in the deli case & they give you a dirty look. I just tell them I want a freshly made salad with no onions and they will make one up on special order. We have been supporters at Antipastos for over 20 years, even under the previous ownership, however, some the quality of some things are just not the same. Sincerely, Peter Gauvreau

I wanted to order food for 30 people to be delivered at 6:00pm on a Saturday night. I was told that they close at 5 and that was the latest they could deliver. What catering place does not work Saturday night?

I ordered for our daughters small wedding for 20 people. The food was wonderful, it was delivered on time and the portions were huge! I won't have to cook for the week there is so much left over! Thank you very much for making a wonderful day even better!!

Hit or miss. I can't say I love antipastos but I definitely can't say I dislike it...I love the selection of items they have and how everything has been made fresh (despite being frozen to sell). The meals they sell at their hot table are the only meals I can put in my fridge and re-heat it later and it still taste like it was just made...not sure what they do but the pasta never seems to get super mushy sitting in the sauce and their chicken is always moist. But the prices are a bit steep to justify driving to that end of the city just to buy cans of sauce, meatballs, freshly made pasta..etc. The sauce and meatballs have also been a hit and miss when I've bought them (lacking flavour, dry, etc). Good to buy things in bulk if you have the money but thats about it....

Food could use a little more zip.. I used to work near Antipastos, so went often at lunch and the office ordered in on special occasions. The food is pretty good, but it always looks so much better than it tastes. It looks wonderful, but tastes bland - like something is missing. I don't understand how that works, but I feel a little let down when I eat there. I would go back there though, because of the food store - it has an amazing variety of interesting Mediterranean foods.

Great Market, Slow Hot Table. The market is fantastic for those looking for any imported specialty foods or delicious Italian breads. The part of Antipasto's that gives me pause is the amount of time it takes for the employees behind the hot table to fulfill an order. From the time I started going to Antipasto's when they were on Martindale Road this has been a problem. Is the food worth the wait, only if you don't have to be anywhere in a hurry then yes. If you are thinking of picking up lunch in less than 20 minutes it may not happen.

Feed a family for days........ Get the Family Feeder... SO much food and it is delicious. The sauce is homemade by a real crew of Italian ladies on premises. I could drink the sauce it is so good. I like the fact that you can pick up a few other things you need there while you are waiting for your meal to be prepared. It is a monthly treat for my family

Wayyy To Expensive. There is great food at Anti-Pastos but the price maked me want to bring it up after I eat. Lower your outragous prices and you will get more customers. My God only the rich and the NHS orders from your place of business and the NHS is laughing all the way to the bank like yourselves because the tax payer foots the bill. Sickening!!!

Good Food - Easy Entertaining. We've attended family & corporate events which were catered by Antipasto's food, and it has always been good. The food is fresh and tasty. Even the delivery drivers are friendly. Quantity is great and it makes for headache-free family entertaining.
