Review Coppola's Ristorante - St. Catharines

We had our belated stuff Christmas party here, never would have thought of having steak at an Italian restaurant (I tend to veer towards Pasta) but wow it was the best filet mignon ever! The creme brûlée was to die for and the staff gave us wonderful service, I will be back.

1st time here & was very pleased. The staff was amazing. To top it off the owners came & talked to our table. Checked to see how our experience was. What can I say about the food. It was mouth watering delicious. For apps had the shrimp & calamari then ordered a pizza egg planet , different pastas , wine and spaghettis amazing. Dog were allowed on patio se we enjoyed the food and everything. Just to add more washrooms were clean too Joe was our waiter he was nice

This was our first time eating here. My boyfriend had the jumbo ravioli with caesar salad for take out. He was not impressed with the presentation or the portion of either. The caesar salad was basically just lettuce as it had no parmesan cheese, no crotons, and barely any bacon bits. The ravioli had no cheese on top and only came with 5 ravioli. He was still hungry after and did not feel it was worth the price. Pictures are of this meal. My caesar salad was also only lettuce but I did ask for no bacon. I had the penne sorrento which was an okay size but could have used a bit more of the garlic olive oil as it was kind of dry. We will not be eating here again.

We were driving back to Toronto after spending the day in Buffalo and googled restaurants in St. Catherine’s on our way back. This was one of the top few and the menu looked great, so we decided to stop in. The food was absolutely delicious! The tastiest and most authentic Italian food we have had in a long time. The service was also excellent, and we especially enjoyed the unlimited bread and salad. I would highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

Pleasant restaurant. I went here for a school event and everything was very nice. The food was appetizing and presented well. I have no complaints about this place.

When we inquired about booking the Banquet room at Coppola's for a celebration of life, Gerry was quick to respond and was very helpful and had great suggestions. The staff were all very professional, friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious, plentiful and continually refilled without us asking. Thank you for all your support during this difficult time.

Awesome experience food is unreal super plentiful. Having our wedding there and they have us a free 5 course tasting dinner for the family. Super awesome and Luigi is a stellar owner! Very warm and welcoming and fun! Looking forward to the wedding!

We had a retirement party here. Group of 20 people. For the initial planning we dealt with Gerry and he is great. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. Our server Caitlyn was awesome. The atmosphere is perfect for any size group. No complaints at all. Coppola’s is a great restaurant/venue for any occasion. They have wonderful service and amazing food.

To some, Coppola's Ristorante might be on the pricey side, but given the authentic food quality, portions, presentation, black and white table linens, black-attired servers and the ambiance, it was worth every penny. A party of three, we left quite content and pleased with our meals, desserts and the service. For my entree, I had Vitello alla Parmigiana, (Breaded milk-fed veal cutlet, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese), gnocchi that melted in my mouth, caesar salad topped with pancetta, and mixed freshly-cut steamed vegetables. I had absolutely no complaints! My son ordered the feature of the day which was bone-in filet with garlic mashed potato, caesar salad and mixed vegetables. He ate every morsel! My son's girlfriend had the Wild Mushroom Truffled Risotto. The portion, she said, was plentiful so she ate about half and packed the rest home for next day's lunch. Dolce? Absolutely! Make sure to leave room for dessert. Their rich & creamy creme brûlée and Sicilian cannoli that reminded me so much of my trips to Italy capped our dining experience at Coppola Ristorante. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just simply looking for an excuse to eat great authentic Italian food, this hidden gem will not disappoint and be prepared to be blown away!

Italian cuisine at its worse. Servers lack serving skills and are terribly rude. Being ignored isn't a reason to come to a costly restaurant. Will never come back here for the atmosphere is fit for no one unless you want to be ignored all night.

Great Restaurant. Delicious

Worse italian restaurant in the city. Servers are ruder than rude. prices are high and the atmosphere was very unpleasant.

Always great food and great service. When I saw the reviews Coppola's got on Google I just had to write a review here( not on Google bc I didnt want to bother downloading the Google map app). Coppola's was rated just half a star above Johnny Rocco's. Are you kidding me!! Rocco's is really just a higher energy Eastside Mario's in terms of food. It's all pre- prepared Sysco food. It also got the same stars as Lina Linguine's I like Lina's but again not nearly the quality and creativity of Coppola's. Also in the maybe 50 times we've been there the service has never been anything but stellar. We've brought lots of friends there and they love it. Now the restaurant atmosphere is dreary and depressing and the ancient silk ivy strewn everywhere is not pretty. Neither is the hideous upholstery of the chairs. I think they're trying to update but they took the booths out of their large room and that hasn't helped either. However the food and service is way too great not to make this your go to casual Italian spot!

Nothing bad to say.... The first time I went to Coppola's I only went because I had gotten a gift card for it...but both my fiancé and I were extremely pleased. I'm an extremely picky eater when it comes to italian food, especially sauce and I think theirs is great. Not sure why people say it tastes like it comes out of a can... The portions are also great for the price you pay. I recently went again with a group of 15 (which they amazingly accommodated on a Friday night) and the service is exactly what anyone should expect with such a large group. App's came out shortly after ordering them, server always came by to see if we needed drinks...main meals took a bit longer but for it being a friday night and having such a large group it was not unreasonable by any means....everyone loved it. Definitely recommend it!

EXCELLENT RESTAURANT/FOOD AND STAFF. I had to say something after reading the last few comments!?! This place does not deserve such ridiculous reviews. I have been going to this restaurant since it first opened over 13 years ago. I loved it from the day I walked in. In fact I loved it so much that I had my wedding there at the banquet hall. The staff is amazing the owners are amazing and the food is the best I have ever had from apps to desserts! The staff is very professional they do not only think of themselves. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I do encourage you go.

Italians out eating. The worst experience ever. Not sure who this owner thinks he is but he really needs to sharpen hisskills in public relations. Total moron. No class at all. Anyway dont waste yourmoney in his place go to macdonalds is better than this wannabe Italian Restaraunt. Seriously really bad experience. I will never recommend to family friends or anyone. Please just drive by you will be happy you did.

Sauce from a can. Went with a work party (20-30 ppl) - took 2 hours to get our Apps.

Food was OKAY IF you like Ragu pasta sauce and on-sale pasta. It was gross - not too many people actually ate their food (but then again Lunch @ 3pm is a bit late).

I ordered the Potato Croquette which was food but their ' marinara sauce' was gross and Pollo Parmigiana (Chicken Parm) again was okay but that tomato sauce OMG. I haven't eaten cheap Italian food like that EVER not even in college. If you're a family Italian restaurant learn to MAKE your own pasta sauce and honestly, opening a can/jar or Ragu doesn't count.

Sally. BRUTAL is not the best word. The servers are pretentious and are thinking of themselves first.
We sat and waited for our menu while the server made a coffee for herself.

We had to over a 2 hr. lunch keep asking for things, cheese, ground pepper etc.
NEVER came back to our table to ask if we needed something.

The owners have been snotty to say the least and really are not INTO their paying customers

How they got to expand their business is Only on the awesome food.

I have been going here since the beginning of their restaurant opening. and NOW will only frequent the establishment when I have to for a gathering that someone else has arranged.
HOW'S MY DINING
Brutal. Service: Three and a half hours from start to finish. Everything simply took twice as long as is acceptable. Drinks, appetizers, and the main course took well over 2 1/2 hours. At one point our server disappeared. Excuse, embarrassed by the time it took and the poor service. The tables around us were turned over twice in the same time. Simple things like filling drinks, water glasses etc. just didn't happen. We had 11 in our party, the server had to make 6 trips to table the entrees. Where was the management and the server support? The server was simply over-whelmed.

Food: My steak, the special, tough as nails, sent back. My guests devoured their food, probably out of hunger and desperation.

Ambiance: Though they try the place is loud, open, nice view of the parking lot and the assortment of cars & trucks. Reminiscent of a school cafeteria but instead of anti-bullying and STD posters there are thrown-style Crown Royal chairs in the washroom and an assortment of wine advertisements throughout, nice touch. Served Birra Moretti in a Steam Whistle glass, even classier. Oh, anyone who has tasted really good whiskey knows you don't have to advertise.

Complaint: Server argued with our table about the overall dismal service and foreign matter one of my guests found in one of their coffee. There were obviously problems but instead of addressing them and making our table and our guests feel like they were taking our needs seriously they ignored us, period. After reading the server the riot act management came out and comped a few coffees and deserts, but really it was too little too late.

Conclusion: Hosting a small group I am dismayed at what occurred. I am embarrassed what took place and cannot apologize enough to my guests. I also question what the citizens of St. Catharines consider a fine dining experience. It's time culinary expectations in this city were re-evaluated.

Bad Service. Recently we went and although the meals were great our service was poor. She was aggressive and seemed to want to speed us thru our meal... perhaps we were her last table of the night and she wanted to get out...either way she should have passed us off to another server and not ruined our experience

Best Italian in St.Catharines. I think that Coppola's is the best Italian in St.Catharines. Good service, and house salad dressing is amazing! I think it is a little over priced and may take them self a little to serous but it is a nice place to go with friends to share a few apps and enjoy some great pasta a few times a year.

Coppolas is wonderful. By far one of the best restaurants to go eat in St Catharines. Coppolas is owned by a family friend, Jerry Coppola. Jerry is always compasionate to all of his guests. When I go to Coppolas, I tend to get 2 meals out of it. I usualy get pasta, which is so big that i will end up having to take some home. Before your meal, unlimited buns and salad will be given out. Coppolas satisfies that sweet tooth with yummy desserts too. If you are looking to go out with friends or out on a special occasion, then you must check out Coppolas Italian food. Great food, great workers and all in all a great experience for everyone

Amazing food!. We came here for my mom's birthday and all enjoyed it very much. We were pleased with the service and the dinners were fabulous.
The steaks were cooked perfectly, and I got the saltimbocca which was also very good.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time!! I can't understand why anyone would go to a chain restaurant when you can get a well prepared meal here for almost the same price.
The ambiance was also nice - nice, cozy interior.
Good wine selection as well.

Great place. We just went for my birthday and We enjoyed it again! It was very busy, so we had a drink at the bar before our table was ready. The calamari is great, my favourite place for it. We ordered the veal chop which was good, 2 people had steak and one had veal parm. The 2 steaks were overcooked, however the waitress took them back right away and made fresh ones. They were very professional about it and the owner came to apologize and gave us an after dinner drink. Besides that the food was excellent and always is!
Lookin' For Trouble
St Catharine's really does have a good restaurant. FINALLY! We've found a really fine restaurant in St Catharines. Coppola's is great!
Not much of a fan of Italian restaurants, but Coppola's is definitely the exception. Country Italian decor made for a pleasant atmosphere. Excellent service made us feel as though nothing was too much trouble.
Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had. Totally authentic and loaded with flavor.
The four cheese lasagna was a substantial serving and absolutely scrumptious.
Also, had a penne dish with creamy pesto, chicken, and red peppers. Just like my Italian neighbor's Mom used to make, it was rich, yummy and layered with tastes. By the time we stopped eating, we were absolutely stuffed and brought home the leftovers. When you go, make sure to bring your appetite! By far the best St Catherines dinner out we've had in years. We'll be back.

Just had calamari and a pizza, amazing! Love everything about this place.

I would just like to add to this"poor service" review. Coppolas does make their kids pizzas fresh to order. And most often they are more than happy to give the customer exactly what they want. That's too bad you had a bad experience.

Excellent Italian food. Our wedding reception was at Coppola's (there is a banquet hall in back) over 6 years ago and our family and friends still mention that our wedding food was the best they have ever had. The mushroom pasta (which was only on the banquet menu) was amazing!!

We have dined here many times and have never been disappointed. The owners are very involved and ensure service and quality are top notch.

Best Restaurant in St.Cath!!! By FAR!. This is my favorite restaurant! The food is AH-Mazing!!! We have been fans from 2001 and dinner there has always been DEEEEE-Licious!!! Gerry and Luigi are amazing hosts and only add to the atmosphere! Service is always great! We have been on busy weekend nights, Valentine's nights, Mother's day, and regular week nights, and the quality of the food and service has stayed consistent! We have also hosted and been hosts to many events in the banquet hall which has always showcased exceptional food and service! I LOVE Italian food and this restaurant satisfies my every craving!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Poor service. Maybe it was an off night, but our server seemed put out by every request made of him (we were a large group). He seemed to have no idea how to handle a large party (maybe 20 people), neglected to ask about drinks or refills of things like salad and buns and seemed to be struggling to keep everything straight.

The food was okay. Barely. The "bruscetta" was some toasted bread splashed with a sugary sweet balsamic vinegar, served with a bowl of some bland diced tomatoes with a little seasoning that was half full of liquid . The pizza was greasy and salty, as well.

The kid's menu, such as it was explained to us, was lacking. Junk like chicken fingers (how is that Italian?) and a 6" pizza with cheese and pepperoni. If your child wants something else, like a veggie pizza, you have to order the larger size and pay more. They won't make kid's pizzas fresh to order. They do have kids size pasta as well.

Copplolas is over priced. Way over priced. It's more like $20-$30 for entrees than $15-$25. And not necessarily worth it. Coppola's thinks it's more than it is.

Amazing food. Have been going here for years.
The owners are always there, and are right at the front to great you as you walk in.

The food is very fresh and the best part about the menu, you can order any dish, and change the pasta type.

The best Italian food you can get.
Johnny Coppola
