I just finished the most amazing meal here. Salmon BLT burger with maple dijon glaze, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and garlic mayo (I ordered without a bun). My side was Asiago, Zucchini, and Roasted corn soup. It was so good I could honestly come back and eat it again later today. Fresh tasty food, and fast friendly service. Plus a beautiful view of the bay. Highly recommend.

We chose Stickleback eatery during our trip 2 Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, we had the meat pasta and some cauliflower bites, everything was awesome, So good that we forgot 2 take a photo for out Food/Adventure blog, staff was courteous and we really liked the waterfront view in the sun. We will be back 2 visit again and we really enjoyed the duck � that greeted us at the front door �

Spent a couple of hours on this beautiful deck this afternoon while waiting for a group out kayaking. Shannon was a great waitress serving me coffee and Tsunami Fries. I made great use of the free WiFi and thoroughly enjoyed the super service and great food. I will definitely be back again.

Love the stickleback. Consistently great food, wonderful service and delicious Caesars. Winter weeknights can be quiet and great for a date night with good conversation.
A+.for effort. Great oceanfront location with big outdoor patio. Service was really friendly and accommodating. We went during a very busy night though so It took quite a while to get our order served...about 30 minutes. When the food did finally arrive it tasted a bit plain to be honest, nothing special. Would have expected better quality. It's too bad because the location, friendly staff are all there, just needs a different chef perhaps. Overall good effort.
Really great experience!. My girlfriend had a Mango and Pulled Pork Taco Salad, which she really enjoyed. I ordered the Texan burger, which was a nicely sized burger with pulled pork and onion rings on top, and it was amazing. We had a nice seat on the patio, and got great service. Nice selection of beers on tap, and everything was quite reasonably priced. Definitely one of the better meals of our visit.
Perfect place for a burger after a long bike ride on the Galloping Goose trail, swimmimg at the potholes or Ziplining. Family friendly. Great Burgers. Our server was fantastic. We were sad we were only able to eat here once during our trip.
The stickleback west coast eatery in sooke bc is fantastic. Their waterfront patio is stunning and a lovely place to enjoy a summer meal. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the chefs make a special effort to make many menu items available gluten friendly (they even offer gluten free bread options). With generous portions and reasonable prices the stickleback is a great choice for a tasty night out.

The dock platter was amazing. Ribs and sausage deffinilty favorites. Husband and I couldn't finish it! So tasty and great service! I see why this was recommended to us by locals!
Great food and service. We went for lunch last weekend, my son and I had the hungry logger burger, wow it was huge and very tasty. My wife had a seafood dish (can't remember the name) that was also very tasty. Service was great the waitress was very friendly. It's quite a way from where we live but we will definately go back.

Great setting, food okay but has potential to be great. I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. Definitely think it would be a nice place to hang out on the patio in the summer. We had the Cheesy Garlic Bannock appetizer and it was really good. The marinara sauce it came with tasted really fresh and it was a good combination. However, once we got our meals things went a bit downhill. I had the Pesto Chicken Club with tsunami fries, and my partner had Mango Pork wrap. The gravy on the tsunami fries was extremely salty and some of the pieces of bacon both in the fries and on the sandwich were not even cooked. That being said, I feel that if the gravy had been a bit less salty and the bacon cooked, both dishes would have been excellent as the sandwich was delicious otherwise. Partner thought the Mango Pork wrap was just okay, but he did enjoy the yam fries. Maybe we hit them on a bit of an off night, because it wouldn't take much to elevate the food to awesome. I would definitely try again.
EDIT: Tried out Stickleback again on July 12. This time everything was excellent! Really enjoyed the food! Will be back for sure!
Had the mango pork wrap - wow - it was awesome! I have never had a bad meal there.
Food was fresh,hot and tasty and service was excellent, our server was the only one on the floor and was fairly busy but made sure to check back with us frequently she was very friendly and had a wonderful personality. Great location and nice view. My only suggestion is a more well lite sign we almost drive by it while it was dark out because we couldnt see it very well. Only thing we were a little confused about was the bannock wasn't traditional style and was served like toast. Overall a great dining experience :)
As a very regular diner at Stickleback, I have tried most of the menu items and have thoroughly enjoyed everything! The sea to sea chowder is to die for, the whole range of burgers are big and bursting with flavor. The various flavors of cheesecake are always mouth-watering. Then they have all you can eat cod and chips Wednesdays, great value and very tasty! And their wing night on Thursdays, dare I say, the best wings I've ever had. To top it off the service is always friendly and the prices are VERY reasonable! I highly recommend Stickleback!

This Tasty Fish is no stinker!. I don't really know what to say about the Stickleback, in Sooke, my party was to a man simply astonished when we finished our first meal there, maybe 5 months ago. Where did this place come from? I have been back at least a half dozen times since, and I have yet to be disappointed. Menu pricing is fair, no matter the dish, I have never felt like I was paying too much, the burgers are great, I have had three different styles now and all three were very good. The main supper dishes that I have had are all good...the special earlier this week was some Sausage, Polenta, and a medley of sauteed vegees..sorry I don't know the fancy name of the dish, but although the portion was as filling as could be, I wanted more to take home for later. Mouthwatering, i guess is the word I have been trying to think of. Starters are nice and normal, the mains are both succulent and mouthwatering, and the pricing is more than fair. You will not be disappointed with trying the Stickleback....Oh, and if your curious, my last party of two had starters, then one special and one of the most expensive items on the menu, along with four sleeves of beer...and our bill was still astonishingly low at 60someodd dollars, and that was not being conservative by any stretch in our choices, so you know the pricing is fair.
Surpassed expectations with great service, high quality food and a very west coast approach. Better food than point no point. Prices and serving sizing were very good. Ribs and burgers are out of this world. We will definitely be back
A REFRESHING NEW EATERY. For the last several months, once a week, I've had the pleasure, of going to Stickleback West Coast Eatery, in Sooke.
It is a beautiful location, with a spetacular view & the waiters & waitresses are always so prompt, thoughtful, courteous & nice.
The meals have always been terrific. For example, their baron of beef is scrumptious & they use real chicken breast in their Stickleback Clubhouse. The prices are also very reasonable. They put more effort, into creating a nice meal, than most places I've been to, in a long time.
It is nice to have such a predictably good restaurant in the Western Communities. The Stickleback is a great experience. They also make their own unique cheesecakes, each day.
My friend & I really look forward to trying, one, each time we go. I have never been disapointed. I wish other restuarants would fashion themselves after The Stickleback. Keep up the great work!
Great food and location. Had many great meals at this restaurant. The food is consistantly good and my main problem is deciding what to have from their extensive menu. My only criticism is that sometimes the service can be a little on the haphazzard side..... saying that though, with a view like they have from the restaurant, who minds if dinner takes a little longer to arrive :)

Great Deal. My partner and I bought the Swarm Jam deal that got us a 2-hour double kayak rental, two burgers and two drinks. At a price just under $50, it really was a steal.
The service was amazing and the manager new about the reservation and had even mentioned that he had checked on us out in the kayak when he noticed that the wind had gone up.
We decided to grab some wings as a started (two hours of kayaking will leave you hungry). They were delicious (honey jerk) although I believe there were less than 10 on the plate. The burgers were massive and definitely filled us up.
The beer that was served was by far the coldest I've been given in a long time - it really makes a difference and I was happy that they are paying attention to details like that.
The view is great and on a sunny day the patio is where you want to be.
New Fans!. After we got the cold shoulder at Sooke Harbour House when looking for a bite and vino..which was a pity after hearing so much about it..we happened across the Stickleback as we were sulking on our way home. Excellent happenchance! Awesome location, friendly staff, professional but with a great sense of humour, very good food for all appetites. We'll be back for sure!

Stickleback a small but tasty fish. As many know a stickle back is a relatively small fish, but I must say this restaurant is sure making it a tasty fish. Yes you can get most of this type of food in other local restaurants, but for starting out they are very smart at the getting the basics right. the food was cooked perfectly the only thing was that the special bred is a heavy type, if they choose a different type then there would be no complaints. The servings are just right. the food was tasty and the servers are alert and attentive. With whispers of a seasonal menu it will be interesting to see if they pull it off well so far so good. the atmosphere and setting is beautiful especially in the evenings, it would not hurt them if they choose to make it affordable fine dining restaurant. the chef seem competent to pull it off.
***I just wanted to add they use a seasonal menu. Check the season. The only thing to point out is that there is a cost to change burgers from beef to chicken, and seeing that there are not very many choices with the new menu and some questionable flavor combinations. I guess we need to check back frequently to see what they bring in next.

If today was my last day on earth, and I stood on the precipice of a sooke tsunami, I would order the tsunami fries at the stickleback. Stumbled in last week for a drink after hiking in e sooke park, and couldn't resist some chowder, and the tsunami fries which had bacon, havarti and gravy. Awesome.
Refreshing for sooke. The plates we received were lacking in presentation (unlike the photos on this site) the halibut was very good however quite small portion and the batter was soggy. Fries were delicious and slaw was homemade and fresh! The burger was good but served with a very dry bun.... Dissapointing. Also the sunshine halibut didn't live up to it's 19$ price tag.... A bit bland and presentation was a C-. Nice decor and lots of servers! Lots! Perhaps too many? Some just stood around chatting... Will be back to try again. It's a good start but needs some improvements :)

Fantastic food the most attentive service we have ever had!. We decided to try out the new stickleback grill. The previous restaurant was terrible, so we had some reservations about the place. we went on an extremely busy day and sat on teh patio. We were met almost immediately once seated by a fantastic server named Yvonne. She told us the specials and unfortunately they were out of mussels which I was really wanting to try, but explained that there seafood is alwasy fresh and local, which we were pleased to hear. she was very attentive as my husband has a lactose allergy. The food took a quite awhile however but our server made sure our drinks were filled and repeatedly let us know that she did not forget about us. she even took the time as busy as it was to tel us about how the owners had the place smudged and promoted all local farmers and business' in the area(galloping goose sausage, vienna bakery, free range eggs etc.) we were throughtly impressed. The food finally came and it was quite good. Although the calamari was chewy. I would say we would recommend this restaurant for the amazing service we received and go back again and give it another try on the food.

Change of Scenery. Came here only a few days after it opened with some friends from work. No liquor license at the time (it has promptly since secured one, don't go screaming away just yet!) but that worked out fine for me since I wasn't up to the challenge of taking Sooke Road home at night drunk (kidding... relax.)
Space was clean and bright, the tables and chairs were comfortable, the server was upbeat, positive, genuinely seemed like he wanted to make us happy. The view is spectacular, looking out over Cooper's Cove. We lucked out and got it as the sun was just starting to come down. Too cold at the time to sit out on the patio but the window seat was just as fine.
There was a group of around 8 of us and we all ordered the same time. Good stress test on a new kitchen. While we waited, the owner came out and chatted us up. Wanted to know who was local, what we were looking for in a restaurant, etc. He offered that we could always reserve our tables and order our food ahead of time so we would have it waiting for us when we came in if we were on a lunch break. Good stuff.
I was happy to see that everything came out at the same time. I had the steak sandwich on garlic bannock with fries. I like to do the steak sandwich test at a new restaurant. It lets me know if they can cook a steak to order and what the quality of the steak is, especially since most places aren't using their best of the best on a steak sandwich. I ordered it blue rare (don't make that face at me.) It came out medium well. Despite this, I didn't send it back. The garlic butter it comes dotted with really kept the steak moist and flavourful. The steak itself was tender and was of great quality. The garlic bannock it comes with (nice change of pace, by the way) was tasty but dense and heavy. That along with the pile of crisp, well done fries made it a heavy dish. I would probably go for a salad instead of fries if I did this again.
All in all, great service, great space, great view, great food, and great prices. I'll be back for sure.
LOVE IT!!. I've been to Stickleback 3 times now and have enjoyed each meal I've had especially the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and the halibut burger, they are fabulous. The service is great and I love the new renos.
The view alone is worth the trip out to Sooke. Looking forward to going back to try out the kyacking tour and burger and beer special!!
WOW- Finally!. I'm a local Sooke gal and have been waiting for a good casual restaurant! I've tried the others - and either the price is too high or the quality is too low. Now, we have the Stickleback! Finally...FINALLY... I can sit out on a patio overlooking the water (we are, after all, in SOOKE) and enjoy good food and drinks. I had the halibut burger and caesar salad - amazing - AND I could still afford to try the raspberry beer! To top it off - the view is beautiful. How can you get more west coast then that! I noticed there was Kayak rentals too...will be back for that, too. Now, I know I'm rambling but I am seriously sold on this place. I stopped going out for dinner because I just couldn't find that 'special place'. Well I found it! The GM even personally brought me my food and made sure I was enjoying it - nice touch. 5 stars all around Stickleback - I'll be back again, and again. :)
I went to the Stickleback for Breakfast on Sunday, the service was great even in the morning, and coffee was very fresh, and so were the muffins. The muffins were very moist and had lots of flavour. I highly recommend this fine new establishment. I cant wait to eat here again maybe next time for dinner.

Gorgeous View, Intriguing Menu, Questionable Service. Just had dinner and drinks at the Stickleback. Impressive marina side location, loved the patio herb garden -( would have really liked to see some patio heaters as it was cold!) - we ended up moving inside because we felt like our server was kind of dropping the ball? Maybe she was ust having an "off" day ? Seemed frustrated...
Turns out they were out of what one of us had ordered, didnt find that out for 10 min. or so when the server came and said she "lost our order slip" - We tried something else instead. Just wish there was communication as to what they were out of when we sat down so we didnt get our hopes up.....
we really enjoyed the veggie burger and the seafood chowder. the halibut and chips was good, very small portion on the fish but it was tasty and had yummy coleslaw. Just didnt feel like the staff was on it, there were 6 staff on but it was kind of hard to get our server to come... she seemed frazzled and yet they werent busy.. 2 other tables seemed frustrated as well. All but one or 2 of the staff appeared to be in their early teens. Perhaps hiring some staff with more experience in restaurants might help. I know they have just opened so I will give them some slack...., but they need some more organization or friendlier staff but theyre just sorting things out. My biggest pet pieve is when the food runner shows up and asks "alright who's having the...." - its like... there's only 2 of us ! You know you're a good server when you somehow communicate on the bill who is having what so that the runner can at least seem like they know what theyre bringing you ..... anyways, we Will be back, cant wait to paddle in to the marina for a pint after a canoe in the basin. come try this restaurant !
I'll stick to Stickleback. Took my sister (who is a chef) for lunch and we were most impressed with the menu choices, service and quality of food. We will go back and will recommend this establishment to friends. Add this to your list of fabulous Sooke restaurants!

Stickleback Oceanfront Cider & Taphouse is an exceptional spot, especially after a long cycle from Victoria on the Goose. This place is not just a restaurant; it's an experience, with stellar views that are as memorable as the food is delicious. In my opinion, it stands out as one of the best, if not the very best restaurant in the Sooke area. It's my preferred stop and turnaround point on bike rides out this way. They've thoughtfully included spots to park your bike, making it incredibly convenient for cyclists. On a beautiful summer day, the picturesque scenery with mountain views is simply unbeatable. A perfect blend of great food, breathtaking views, and cyclist-friendly amenities. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a scenic and satisfying dining experience.
On a beautiful autumn day we started our ride of the Galloping Goose with lunch here. Great food, Great Service and an awesome view.
Cozy restaurant with nice oceanfront view. There was a long wait but it was worth wait. 3 of us shared a cup of claim chowder (very tiny), chicken wings, pulled pork bowl and fish & chips. Chicken wings were very dry. Fish & chips were crispy and surprisingly tasty.
The day we went, the patio and inside was plagued with wasps. Owners should not subject servers , let alone guests to this. You can buy wasp bags to hang outside and trap them. The waitress was sweet, the food came quickly. We did a quick dine in, where it was sweltering hot, then took a doggie bag. The reason we chose this cafe was for its gluten free options and French fries were on the menu as being gluten free, but to be gluten free, they must be cooked in a gluten free environment, thus, it’s own fryer, to avoid cross contamination. Thus do not put them on the menu advertised as gluten free.
The gluten free noodle dish was spicy but yummy, my friend said. My crispy prawn wrap with veggies was delicious. A prominent sign on the cafe as you approach it by car would be helpful.
Best brunch in a while - went there to catch up with some friends and the view is amazing.
We had dinner at the Stickleback restaurant our first night in Sooke. We were welcomed warmly and had a lovely conversation with Leah. Justin, the chef, is a magician. Tasty food. The fish'n'chips were exactly what we needed. And the dessert was rich and flavourful. We came back two days later for lunch - the seafood chowder. Highly recommended.
We're visiting East Sooke for the weekend and just had some takeout from here. The honey garlic chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious! If we didn't have our dog with us, I would definitely opt to dine in as the view of the water would add a wonderful atmosphere for date night. There is seating outside as well as a patio. Will keep here on the list for the next time we come around.
Incredibly gorgeous views from the dining room. I'd imagine even more fantastic in the Spring & Summer from three outdoor patio overlooking the ocean inlet. The food & service were amazing & I'd definitely return!
A hidden gem!
Lovely setting in tucked in behind Goodrich peninsula. There's a good-sized patio. The inside seemed a little smaller than I expected. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The seafood chowder was amazing!!
Be there a couple times now. What's for breakfast with friends which was amazing. Came back for burgers and lunch after a long walk on the goose. Not a fan of stickleback sauce it's like mustard with maybe dill? Great service, wonderful views, good prices, tasty food.
Definitely coming back here again! The food was delicious and the portions were fantastic for the prices. The pulled pork bowl tasted great and packed with flavour. The peanut were creamy, filling, and delicious. The yam fries were perfectly crispy with super well paired sauce. Happy to support a family owned business with an amazing staff an beautiful view.

The food was really good especially the Caesar salad and fish chowder. Lots of parking, even a few spots that would work good for RV's. Really close to the Galloping Goose regional trail if you are biking. Unfortunately the place is really cold especially during the winter, so make sure you are dressed warm.
I hadn't been in a number of years so was happy they had room for us even though the parking lot was full.
Service was quick and the server was super friendly and helpful with great suggestions for our meal.
We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and location very much. Everything we had (5 of us) was good. Service was wonderful! My only complaint was I chose this restaurant for the group for Sunday brunch and I was very disappointed they don’t have a traditional Eggs Benedict. It would be so easy to make. Have the fancy ones as well, but not everyone likes that. When I go for brunch, I just want traditional Eggs Benedict.
