Review Sidney Harbour Chinese Restaurant - Sidney

việt anh nguyễn
One of the Chinese Restaurants in Sidney Harbor. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was really good. The customer can choose dishes from the menu or order with their idea. Can go there alone, with a couple, a group of friends or family. They have a combo for a group or family. The taste is so delicious, but sometimes some tastes are too salty. The customers can choose the beverage and it will be refilled when nearly empty. The cost is not too expensive. Maybe 30 - 40$ per person.

We happened upon this place one afternoon while visiting seaglass Beach. We walked in, sat down and ordered. I was absolutely amazed at how fast the food came out and even more amazed at how good it was. We are so picky with our Chinese and this was exactly what we were searching for. The fried rice, beef and broccoli, almond chicken and spring rolls were the best we have had in so long. We will definitely be making the journey from Nanaimo again very soon.

Service was phenomenal, food was served fast and delicious! So happy we found this restaurant… definitely highly recommend going here and we will absolutely be back again!

Pretty good Chinese buffet! To be clear, I would consider this westernized Chinese food. Still, is tasty food! Service was attentive. The seating might be a little tight but not that bad. The lunch buffet was $15.70 CAD which isn't too bad for a lunch buffet. Good selection of entrees and desserts. Entrees include fried rice, fried noodles, stir fry rice ribbon noodles, 2 types of stir fry with broccoli (one with beef and one without), green beans, fried calamari, fried chicken, sesame balls, wontons in soup, hot and sour soup, strawberry hello, coconut jello, watermelon, cantaloupe, fruit salad, and more! Street parking.

Love this place.. the food is freshly made. They don't serve buffet any more but i prefer the a la cart! Super fresh and large portions. Prices are reasonable too.

Just tried sidney Harbour Chinese for the first time last night. I walked in and ordered a dinner for 3 to go. Super friendly and fast service, and the food was excellent. It will definitely be my new Chinese food spot from now on

The food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly. If you are looking for Chinese food, perhaps before getting the ferry, I highly recommend this place.

The portion sizes were really big and the food was prompt and hot. I have a hard time finding anything negative to say... but it's strange to have to say I cannot find anything wonderful to say either. The chicken and broccoli sauce was exactly the same as the Chinese chop suey sauce. In retrospect I would order something different to make the meal more interesting. Prices are good. We had enough to eat, plus enough to take home for another meal. Sidney always has plenty of parking. There was plenty of seating to start, but the restaurant filled up quickly.

This is the BEST Chinese food!!! I've tried a few other local places but they don't even come close. The workers are so incredibly kind and you can tell they love what they do. They have always been accommodating for my sister who is in a wheelchair. The food portions are massive and always come out so fast and hot! The prices are great too. I will definitely keep returning.

The food is great but we ordered from the online menu for pickup but was charged more than what the menu price is. They definitely need to update their price menu.

Easily the best Chinese buffet I have ever had! I've had both the lunch and dinner buffet and recommend both. When I had the dinner buffet they had tasty prawns, mmm. Everything fresh and flavorful.

Good value. Nice selection. Good priced. Dumplings are excellent.
Dessert is nothing special other than sesame ball or almond gelatine.
Unfortunately today they were making us wait 20 minutes at lunchtime on the Saturday on a long weekend until after the tour bus arrived for lunch. This made no sense. We drove from Sooke for this. They was lots of tables and some people were all finished.
Not happy so we left.

Fantastic. At first portions were a bit small, and we were a bit disappointed, but now portions are humongous, and the food is cooked really really well. Can say enough good things about this place, we order all the time.

Fantastic local Chinese food. The owners/employees are very personable and every time I go in I see them going out of their way to help an elderly customer which makes me want to patronize their establishment even more.

Some traditional items on the menu, like chinese greens (gai lan) and flat rice noodle with beef (beef chow fun) which are favourites of mine. They are also very quick with the fresh buffet items every time I have visited.

I agree that any really negative reviews are likely from competitors since Sidney Harbour is the relative new kid on the block, has the best location and in my opinion the best Chinese food by a long shot in Sidney.

Read a few "disappointed" reviews so went to the restaurant expecting it could be not a great brunch. Very pleasantly surprised. The Won Ton soup brunch starter was great, and happy to see the soft drinks are part of the buffet (no extra charge). The lunch dishes were all flavorful, and because each pan is relatively small, they change off often so you get fresh food - not something that's been under a heat lamp for an hour. The little Dumplings, squid, and deep fried yam were all memorable dishes.

Service wise - the host was very engaging, finished plates were quickly removed and regulars were greeted warmly (the host remembered the meal one older couple had last time and asked if they wanted something in the same vein). And as far as bringing in your kids, both host and hostess doted on every child there.

Yes this is "westernized" Chinese food, so nothing here is going to blow you away with its uniqueness. Other than that - can't see why anyone would be disappointed.

I have eaten at this restaurant several times, and have had food delivered, as well. The food is fresh and delicious, and the people running the restaurant are friendly and enthusiastic. I have a suspicion that the negative reviews on this site are from sock puppets wanting to steer business to a specific competitor.

I highly recommend this restaurant - high marks for service, quality of food, and reasonable prices. The fact that the restaurant is always full when I go there speaks to its popularity with the local residents.

Tired and bland. We had the lunch buffet. The vegetables were bland in colour, texture, taste and variety. The item selection was limited and 'same old same old" ..... as bad as any "western" Chinese food we've ever had.......and we've had a lot of it. For a newish place, the energy, decor, ambiance and staff interest were
very disappointing. We'll be going to the Maple Palace from now on.

Disappointing. I got take out so can't comment on the service. The food was bland and lacked flavour. This is definitely not worth the money. The Chinese food at the deli in the grocery stores is better.

Gross. I've met maybe 3 people in Sidney that like this place. Disgusting. Go to good fortune, don't waste your money. Super greasy and absolutely no flavour. Didn't taste fresh either. Won't be back and I try to avoid sending anyone there.

Will not be back. Stopped in to order out , the young lady behind the counter was on her phone. Had to wave my hand in front of her to get her attention. Food was greasy no flavour , not sure where the pork was in the sweet & sour mostly gristle. Did not even get the 10% off for pick up. Just rude service. Will try Maple Place next time out by the airport.

Consistently Good. Since they opened around six months ago, I have eaten there with family and guests numerous times. We have always enjoyed both the food and great service. Not the biggest buffet in Greater Victoria...but the food is always fresh and hot. Dinner selection is better than lunch, and of course more costly. Typically, the dinner buffet has at least two each of chicken, beef and seafood items, along with assorted noodles and rice and assorted veggies and spring rolls etc. Small salad/dessert bar. Flavouring is tuned for Canadian tastes, but still very good.

Never been unhappy eating there...and I can't help but wonder if some of the very negative comments here are from those with motives other than to give an honest review. The other Sidney Chinese food establishment does not in any way compare in either service or quality...at least it did not before I gave up on it.

The rating says it all. This place is not worth the money, unless you like to stuff yourself with sub par Chinese food. Typical Chinese buffet but smaller; nothing special.

Friends and I went soon after the Sidney Harbour Chinese opened, found the food very good, am very sensitive to msg, and did not have any effects, was very pleased with the food and service, and recommended it to friends, who also were pleasantly surprised, buffets are usually such a let down.

Wonton Soup. Had a big bowl of wonton soup today for lunch. It was terrific! Great flavour and fresh tasting. I'll be back for more probably more than I'd like to admit.

Great Service. We went with a group of 8 for the first time and tried their Buffet, lunch.

We had such lovely service and the food had a good variety as well.

luved having the lazy susan turntable for Chinese tea and the Restaurant was so gracious and kept our cups topped up.

They looked after us very well and we liked it so much we are going back this weekend.

Really great!. Excellent chinese food! Have lived in area for over 8 years and tried resturants from Downtown Victoria, all the waty to Sidney's maple palace (which is now gone). This is certainly my current favorite with great food and service.

Bland. Decided the other night to give this place a try. I don't usually do buffets, but the place was very crowded so we figured with the turn over the food would be fresh and hot. The selection was average, but way too many deep fried items for my liking. The food was bland, everything tasted the same, and not worth the $ 15.95 price tag. Won't be going back again.

Very Good. Very good food for a buffet. Everything was fresh and hot. The staff was very friendly.

Not returning. Over priced for what choices there are. By the time we left most of us were in MSG shock! Sweats, hot flashes, stomach aches, not returning! Will stick with Good Fortune, always good and fresh!
Roberto
Gross bland and bad service. Enough said! I'd rather go to Good Fortune.

Pitiful. Recently, while conducting business over the dinner hour, an associate of mine put forth a motion that we have some food delivered to the office. The decision was unanimous in his favour; however, there had yet to be any mention or consideration concerning the choice of cuisine. One of our interns piped up from the back of the room, suggesting: "Sidney Harbour Chinese". We encourage our staff to take initiative; although, in this instance the input he provided did not serve him well. After placing the order, our intern informed us that the estimated time of delivery would be 45 min to 1hr. As we continued to work semi-productively, and discuss matters of little importance, another co-worker began grumbling about the food: "I'm fading" whined a woman's voice. With a glance at my watch, I noted that it had been an hour and a quarter since the initial phone call, and placement of order. I approached our intern at his cubical, only to find him engrossed in an edition of US weekly. Realizing that I was in his presence, he foolishly tried to cover the magazine over with some office manuals; I could care less. I brought his attention to the Chinese food that he had ordered; he was quick in his response that he would immediately call the restaurant, and demand to know why it was taking so long. I told him to relax, and made my way outside for a cigarette. As I stood near the front of the office absorbed in flavour country, I was distracted by the faint sound of electronic pop music in the distance. Moments later, a sleek looking Acura pulled up, piloted by two Chinese gents "ah! great...the food is here" I exclaimed. I received the bags, and handed the man some cash from my bill-fold. He apologized for our wait, and wished us a good evening. The scent of the food must have been picked up by the air conditioning system; for as I entered the office, I was accosted by a rather large female co-worker who insisted on 'helping' with the bags. Once the food had been set out, I made myself a plate of yang-chow fried rice, chow-mien, ginger fried beef, and lemon chicken. First of all, the food was near cold, but at least it was not greasy. Most of the dishes were very bland, and relatively tasteless. The vegetables in the yang-chow fried rice were consistent with the contents of a bag of frozen "Green Giant California mix", including green beans, and corn niblets?. The lemon chicken was lousy: dry, and coated in a crusty-brittle batter. Rather than served in a zesty marinade, the chicken was accompanied by a small styrofoam cup containing an unappealing yellow glaze. The ginger fried beef was the one dish that I found to be reasonable. I will not be ordering from Sidney Harbour Chinese again, or eating in anytime soon. As it is early days for them, perhaps they will improve upon their quality. Luckily, I was able to spot a doughnut in the break room that had fallen behind the microwave. This, along with a few cups of Maxwell House, was enough to carry me through.

Best Restaurant In Sidney!. I went the other day to check it out and I got terrific service and the food was delicious! It was worth the wait to be seated at a table!

New Sidney Harbour Chinese Restaurant visit a flop!. Not too sure what time the buffet opened, we arrived a half hour early. We were greeted by a sweet young girl that told us the buffet wasn't open yet, but did not offer any other options. When asked if we could order off the menu, she handed us a take-out menu. We were not invited to be seated, so had to ask if we could eat in, it took a moment for her to realize we wanted to be seated and order our meals. We each ordered a combination dinner for one and Wonton Soup. Our dinners took a very long tome to arrive to our table. When they did arrive, the meals were not hot, the food tasted bland and worse yet, did not taste or look fresh. We speculated that the food was left over from the lunch buffet earlier in the day! A gentleman did come to our table to ask how everything was and we told him the above comments. He said he would tell the kitchen. He came back to our table to ask if we wanted our mostly untouched meals packaged to take home, we declined! He presented our bill without further comments and we left. . . forever! We will not return to this new restaurant or recommend it to friends or visitors to Sidney. The restaurant may be new, but they should still have stronger greeters, better food and staff that care.
