Our family came for dinner on Father’s Day and everything was great! The staff were all super friendly (even though our group is loud and crazy LOL) and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back soon!

We went to Victoria for the day last Saturday and stopped in Sydney at Hylands for fish and chips. Delicious food we just loved our meals and so enjoyed spending time with Tony and Norman. Thank you so much guys, and congratulations on your successful new venture, well done !!��

After two visits to Fish O Chips we’ve found the fish (cod) to be consistently good with a light and not too crispy batter and no excess oil. The cod tastes fresh and not like it’s been at the bottom of a freezer for several months. The halibut is even better. The chips are very good but not exceptional. The fish tacos are substantial, tasty and contain lots of fish so you won’t wonder if you received the veggie tacos by mistake. The fish burger contains a piece of cod of the same size that comes with the fish and chips rather than a smaller and thinner burger. One of the owners greets and seats you. The servers are enthusiastic and efficient and possibly verge on overly friendly but that beats being ignored and getting hungrier and hungrier. There’s lots of other seafood - the usual shellfish dishes plus chowder (and even poutine). Another specialty is fried chicken, which we intend to try next time.
This is the BEST fish and chips !! The halibut is always moist,fresh with a great batter. The french fries are to die for,crispy on the outside and soft inside.My husband invariably orders the cod which he says is great too!! The food always arrives piping hot.Try the crab cakes,scallops or the seafood platter(if you are really hungry)....all fabulous choices.
The staff are friendly and welcoming and soon know you by name.
This is our 'go to 'restaurant at least once a week.WHY ? Because we have never had a bad meal and its our second home. Love it..love it ..love it !!

The fish and chips are excellent. Chips especially are crispy with a soft centre! The Sunday "all you can eat" special is a bargain. My wife has tried the fried chicken as well as the scallops and has been happy with her choices.
But let's face it - deep frying in batter is easy. What's NOT easy is creating a fun atmosphere with servers who get to know you (that's YOU, Sarah). This place does it!
Quibbles? Sure - MORE TARTAR SAUCE without having to ask, please.

Excellent fish and chips! Visiting from YYC, me and my family enjoy the fresh seafood options the west coast offers. After a trip from the Gulf Islands, we were craving fish & chips, but did not want to drive to Victoria and endure an hour long line up at our old favorite, Red Fish, Blue Fish. After reading some positive reviews we decided to try Fish O Chips. Located in Sidney, just minutes from the Swartz Bay ferry and YYJ airport. Our family of 5 shared the 9 piece halibut meal and a couple bowls of seafood chowder. The meal was excellent. The batter was light and crispy, and not greasy, as were the yummy french fries. Most importantly, the halibut was fresh and delicious, moist, and not overcooked. Price was reasonable, and only $85 for the "family meal", which included 9 decent sized portions of halibut, fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce and fresh lemon wedges. Best of all, we didn't have an hour long wait, like Red Fish, Blue Fish, and had comfortable seating and table service with a friendly waitress. Next time on the island, we will definitely come back to our new favorite, Fish O Chips, and perhaps come on Wed or Sun night where they offer all you can eat cod fish and chips for $16.
Great Fish and Chips. The best on the island by far. Super portions and the chips are soft in the centre and crispy on the outside. Relaxing patio and great décor internally.
We decided to go for a drive to Sydney. We got kind of hungry, so we obviously needed to find a nice and interesting place to eat some great food at. This fish and chip place was amazing. I personally haven't had fish that had such a light batter that wasn't too oily. They really know what they are doing here. Tartar sauce and coleslaw were also extremely well done. Also, I highly recommend the crab cakes as well, so tasty. They have quite a few seats, as there is both inside and outside seating. The patio is very well done and also covered for the rain and sun. Service was excellent and very fast. Restaurant is in a cute residential neighborhood attached to an old schoolish corner store. So cute. Thank you.
Wanted to eat somewhere else. But couldn’t go to the place I wanted to go. So google great fish places in Sidney and this came up. So here I went. So glad I did. Food was excellent fast and it was hot!! The service was excellent. Cute off the beaten path fish place! Worth your time for sure.
Recently visited and enjoyed the ambiance, but even more the fish & chips. The fish is coated, but not battered, so it isn't greasy and calorific. The fries were hot. The server was very pleasant and efficient, and we were served quickly.

If you're in Sidney just walk a little further..you will be rewarded with some of the best batter-fried fish and chips on the peninsula and Victoria! This is well worth a little ride or walk outside of the main drag.
Your order comes out the fryer quickly. The result is fresh-tasting fish, piping hot. The batter is crisp, delicate, and simply seasoned.
The fries are GIRTHY, with a well fried exterior and fluffy, tender interior that is not noticeably salted.
It's no nonsense fish and chips. Come get yourself a piece.
Crispy light batter that is somehow still substantial without getting greasy. Halibut perfectly cooked and a good sized portion.
Chips cut from real potatoes, unsalted so you can add just the amount of salt you wish. Gave extra tartar sauce at no extra cost. Will be back!
Fish O Chips deserves 5 stars on numerous levels - 1) the good people who served us are the happiest most pleasant wonderful people around. Salt of the earth. 2) portions were a great size. 4 pieces of fish and chips totally satisfied our appetites. And 3) the food was awesome of course. Chips were just-right crunchy, fish was tasty and juicy, and personally i loved the coleslaw. Highly recommended!

I ordered HALIBUT and COD with salad. They were not too oily, but crispy and very fluffy. I felt I could eat more than 5 pieces just by myself. It doesn’t get bored at all.
The place was cozy and friendly. The lady of server was nice and friendly, too. When she realized that I couldn’t drink all of the coke which I had ordered, she managed to put it into the takeout cup for me. Almost every time, I don’t understand why I have to pay tips for just normal services here in Canada, but I felt I’d like to pay it for this place, for this heartwarming service.
Great fish and chips - the batter is light and crisp. Yam fries and crab cakes are also nice. Large portions. The interior is a bit shabby, but it fits the nautical decor and doesn't distract from the overall charm of a small neighbourhood eatery.
Halibut was great, fries needed to be cooked longer because some were soft inside. Excellent service and clean establishment. Great prices.

Super friendly nautically theme "cubby hole" restaurant away from busyness of downtown Sidney, BC but definitely worth the visit! When you enter the restaurant, the kitchen is visible immediately on your right. We were greeted immediately by both the cook and the server...made us feel very welcome.
There is covered seating outside before you enter the restaurant. Inside, there is artwork everywhere; quite attractive. There's a fireplace for chilly days, and a TV which was thankfully off when we visited. It's a cozy, relaxing space.
We ordered the for fish and chips, and popcorn shrimp. The for was delicious, the small shrimp met expectations. Serving size was plentiful for the price.
Located at Resthaven and Malaview Avenue in Sidney adjoining the Queens Store - look for the distinctive blue building. It's approximately 40 minutes (depending on traffic) from downtown Victoria, 10 minutes from Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, and 5 minutes from downtown Sidney. The #72 transit bus goes right by Fish O Chips on its way between Downtown Victoria and the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay.
I highly recommend stopping by for a visit. A couple unsure of what beverages to order were provided samples to help make their choice. Certainly got the customer experience in mind.
Free parking is available. A great start to exploring the Lands End area of the Saanich Peninsula. Many locals and repeat visitors greeted by name; for me, that's always a good sign!

My family recommended this place to me and I have got to day, this has got to be the best fish and chips I have ever had. Even though it was just cod, I loved how it melted in mouth. The batter was crunchy and tasty. Service was great, and fast. I am excited to return here next time to try the Halibut.
Best fish&chips ! fresh cod or halibut, it was delicious, eating out side or to go, no fuss. I was served in 5 minutes and they have amber beer or Pilsner. Place without a view... but really really good.
