I went with a group of 5 and we ordered the platter which comes with various grilled meat, afghan rice and pita. Everything on that platter was incredibly good. From the tandoori chicken to the beef kabobs, the flavour was all there. Rice and pita was good as well. We all agreed this was an excellent meal.
Dated a crazy who loved this place. She was batshit, but yknow what, she was right this place is ight.
If your reading this, I blocked you because reasons.
That is all.
I had a very good experience. I would love to go back again. The ambiance is very good and the server was very polite. The rates are reasonable when you compare with the quantity that you get. The food was extremely tasty and well cooked. I tried afghani kabab and chicken korma, both were extremely good.
This place serves great traditional donairs. I've had the beef and the lamb and honestly there isn't much difference between them. They don't have an assembly line ala Subway where you get to pick and choose what you want on your donair, but I like them the way they make them (minus the pickles). If donairs are what you're after, I have to stress that these are not newfie-style filled with sweet sauce or the meat-filled monstronsities served at Super Donair. They use a lot of veggies on the donair and a combination of ingredients that includes banana peppers, onions, lettuce, pickles and tomato. In my opinion this all works fantastically, but it's obvious it's not for everyone. The rest of the menu is a little too expensive for me to consider ordering at lunch, but I hope to have an excuse to try it on a return visit. Staff are great guys.
Small cafe style restaurant with middle eastern fare. I went in with a friend at about 6pm on a Tuesday night. The only donair meat they had was lamb, with beef heating up (not ready), and no sign of chicken. Got the lamb donair (in a wrap with veggies and sauce) and a donair plate (on flavoured rice with salad on the side). Didn't look into the Qorma/kebabs because we had heard good things about the donair, and the other stuff is pricier. From what I can recall, the prices on the menu uploaded on Zomato are outdated.
The donair was very good. The middle of the wrap consisted of almost all meat, while the ends had more veggies. I enjoyed the banana peppers and onions, which weren't present in the plate. The meat was a bit saltier than I expected, the wrap had a hint of sweetness (I'm not sure if it was from the spices in the meat or the sauce).
Overall it was a great meal and a good change of pace!
To put it quite simply, this restaurant has amazing food. The meat is so flavourful and of great quality. I have not tried anything that I haven't enjoyed. I like the decorations in the restaurant as well, it creates a nice atmosphere. I definitely will keep coming here for a delicious donair!
This is one of my favourite joints to stop in and get a last minute dinner. Usually get a donair, which are awesome. All three of the meat selections are delicious, but my favourite is the lamb. Portions are large. Service is friendly and personable.
I first went to Afghan Kabob a few years back and was impressed with the flavour and size of their donairs. I would go every once in a blue moon when I was in the area and thought of it. Now that I work in the downtown area a couple times a week I tend to go once a month or so. I still haven't tried anything other than the lamb donair as it's just so good. But it isn't just the food that impresses me but the environment and service. I am always greeted with a smile and served with a smile. Bad service can ruin an experience and also tarnish one's day but this place does the complete opposite for me. The food and the service make my day a bit better. I absolutely recommend this establishment and plan to continue being a somewhat regular customer.
Something different to try! Their meat is full of flavour and very tender and juicy. Lamb is a personal favourite. Staff is welcoming and friendly too.
Wicked!!. Absolutely delicious for the price. 8.00$ for a huge donairs. Will be back, again and again! :)
Very clean, friendly, good presentation of food, delicious donairs. Recommended to donIr lovers.
Fantastic Donairs. I have been searching for the best donair in town and think I found it here. They are so good (beef is my favorite) that I have not tried anything else on the menu.
Yum. Friendly servers. Very clean. Liked the lamb donair
Good food comes first .... Been there a handful of times. NEVER walked out disappointed. The food is good, so good it makes you forget the bad service.
FAV place in town!. This place is just lovely! The food is top quality and just delicious. I have been to several Afghan restaurants in the GTA and none were as good. And let me tell you, it's clean!
Highly recommended!
Hummus no good. Chicken do air was awesome.
Amazing food! I've been th.... Amazing food!
I've been there a handful of times and never walked out disappointed... Their food is fresh, and tasty. They are incredibly clean as well.
Hadn't yet been to their new location before coming today-- still as tasty as ever. Easily the best middle eastern restaurant in the city. The meat in the beef qorma is superbly seasoned, and very tender. Comes with a simple salad and flavourful Afghani-style rice pilaf with raisins (love it). Come here and eat good food.
Amazing. Love the Afgani cobab!
True Afghani taste. I dig Afghani restuarants all over North America.
The taste here matches the best Afghani restuarants in Chicago and New York.
Very clean , modern facility. It is a delight to have in Saskatoon.
Highly recommended !
Tasty Treat. So there's this particular building downtown that is notorious for having food places open up, then closing down pretty quick. Fortunately, Afghan Kabob + Donair opened up there.
Why fortunately? Because now I get to eat there since I work downtown. And now I'm quite positive that Afghan Kabob + Donair (AFD for short) rid that building of that stigma. Because that place is there to stay.
I usually get the beef donair. Eating a beef donair is like falling love for the first time or realizing he/she is the one for you. But instead of mental emotions, you're tasting them. The beef donair is the physical embodiment of goodness that Mother Earth has to offer.
I gotta eat there at least once a week or else I'll have fits.
The service is A+, food is quick, service is prompt, what can go wrong?
Seriously though, it's tasty. Just try one thing on the menu and you'll agree. Or maybe not, I'm not your dad.
Reliable, tasty and prompt.. Donairs are served quickly so if you need a fast bite stop in (unless you're a vegetarian.) I prefer it to the other fast-food joints downtown. The other items on the menu take a bit longer to cook but are just as delicious, if not more. We had the tandoori chicken, lamb donair, and the, uh, meatball things (name escapes me at the moment.) All were excellent, chicken juicy not dry. Donairs are massive, meat is main component. Meatballs savoury. Veg option is limited to a spinach dish and a salad.
Service is great - the guys are always super polite and we enjoy eating here.
Hookahs come out at 7 pm, so if you like your air clean, show up before then.
Delicious. I have probably eaten here 10 times and every time the food is excellent. Great location, fairly quick service and excellent donairs.
Authentic Afghan dishes. I have visited Afghan Diner more than a dozen times since they moved to 22nd Street. I have had nearly everything on their menu and all of it has been tasty and fresh. My faviourites are the lamb donair and the platter for one. Try anything on the menu - you won't be disappointed.
Yummy eats on the cheap. This place is awesome. I live and work downtown, I've made the Afghan Kabob and Donair a habit. Service is great, staff is friendly and, most importantly, the food is delicious. The lamb donairs are the tastiest in Saskatoon (ask for yoghurt sauce) . If you like flavour this is the place for you.
First Donair. First time I've had a Donair and I can't say anything bad. Tasted great and was fast. I had the lamb donair and just went with whatever they put on it. A nice big portion but maybe a little high priced, maybe.
Expensive, Good Food. One person eating, the cost comes out to a lot. They need to reduce prices.
Food is good with large portions.
will try their Shwarma next.
Staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. The lamb was awesome. Highly recommend
100% delicious. Wow!! Just finished a delicious extremely tasty offering. My favorite was the Mantoo and the Beef Shish kabob. Full of flavor and fresh ingredients. The fresh mint on the Mantoo finishes the dish. If you go remember there is no beer or wine but there is hookah, which is better. The rice was amazing and very tasteful unlike other plain rice. Service was good and helpfull with the menu, i will be back in couple days to try something else.
I miss the old lamb donairs. When Afghan Kabob & Donair was back on 8th street they made the best-tasting donairs. Now, they still have all the individual elements done correctly-- delicious lamb and wrap-- but they have added a medley of veggies and went as far as squirting a French dressing into the mix. Tsk tsk tsk. It tasted like lamb Subway. Go back to the old-style of lamb donairs, with the garlic-tahini-type dressing and NO salad dressing.

What happened to my donair. I loved the donair when it was on 8th street. They used to place the chicken donair in a piece of naan or pita bread and put lots of this tasty cream sauce on it. Now it comes in a whole wheat shell and is very dry. Barely any sauce at all, though you do get a lot of chicken and vegetables and it healthier I suppose. But still I prefer the old way better, much more flavour. Perhaps they just ran out or maybe are going healthier?
I have not tried anything else on the menu yet, but i will cause it all looks great!
I work in downtown and i try this place when it opened n the food was delicious. The donairs r really good specially lamb donair and they had this dumbling dish n it was fantastic. I am glad that they opened something like this in downtown.
Yay!. I'm so excited to find out that Afghan Kabob & Donair has reopened!
I will definitely be trying out their new location.
I really enjoyed eating at their old location, the donairs are amazing - and absolutely huge, I would always split one with a friend.
IT HAS REOPENED!!!!!!!!! as usual, it was a culinary feast for the taste buds and the location is so preem and the decor is quite nice. definitely recommend for people who haven't been here before
Re-opening Downtown!. I haven't had the pleasure to try this place out but see that they are opening up downtown in the former Green Leaf Salad location on the south side of 22nd between 2nd and 3rd ave, the building with Starbucks.
Great news to all those who disappointed, looking forward to trying it!
This is the Cat's Pajamas.. I have been to this establishment a handful of times, and each time was wonderful. I have tried (almost everything), including the non-alcoholic beer. The food is full of flavor and there is more than enough to go around, especially with the platters. The prices are reasonable, but we live in a city where people can justify a $5 sour coffee at Starbucks, but unwilling to pay $20 (with a reasonable tip) for a good meal. I will say that the rice is probably my most favourite thing they have there, other than the lamb! I always make sure my guests order it!
If you are willing to try something new, I fully recommend this place! This is a nice, quaint setting that you could even bring a date to. The staff is super friendly, you just have to take the time to ask questions and be patient.
Farewall Food Friend (sniff). This was one of my faves! Understated excellence. Was quite disappointed that it quietly closed its doors and departed!
Expensive for what you get. I had a take out Donair which was tasty but I was still hungry after eating it and for $10, Meat was sparse (compared to others for the same price) I should be able to have much without still feeling hungry.
One note, they did not give me a choice of any toppings... just handed my the ready-wrapped pita. I was not pleased.
Good Food. The food here is very good, the atmosphere is nice and the staff are quite friendly. I really like the mantoosh; however, the last few times I have been there, it seems that they run out of items so I have a few options to choose from which is disappointing.
BEST GYROS ON THE PLANET. I've had about half the menu so far and this may be the tastes restaurant in saskatoon.
-Giant gyro that will make you believe in god.
-Hella good bang for the buck.
-Great and friendly service.
-A cool design and pleasant seating.
-Highly recommended.
I am an international student and I love the food of afghan kabab. But Cant go all the time from my university to this place due to my busy schedule I wish if one of the branch would be on campus.
UNBEATABLE!!!!!!!!!. The food is amazing and the ambiance is very nice. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights when they have hookah crowd. Everyone we have referred ends up loving this place and have returned for many more visits. The rice is out of this world and the dumplings(maanto) is sooooo good and delicious(one of the best dish i ever had in my life) but its only available on Mondays and Tuesdays :(

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!. This place is a legend and its decor is very nice.
One of the best saskatoon eateries, not cheap but not outrageously expensive, not sure of how authentic it is but who cares its really really good. Platters for two will fill up three. Excellent service and really enjoyable place.
These people know how to throw some meat on a stick and burn it just right. Great dumpling thingies. You can feel your heart hitting some speed bumps when eating here but who cares you gotta die of something.
Surprise Surprise!. I was apprehensive to try Afghan Kabob and Donair as a vegetarian I didn't think they would have many items to offer. This is true - however the couple of items that they have for vegetarians I was blown away. I have recommended this place to all of my co-workers and friends. The serving sizes are HUGE - 1 order can feed at least 2 people. I highly recommend trying this place!
Best kofta kabab in canada, highly recommend.
Good food. Had a have dozen items off the menu and it has all been tasty. Much better than the majority of donair and shawarma places.
"Recommended". Very nice shish kabobs, great salad, and the firnee (cardamom-flavored custard) is a great deal at $2.99 as it's a pretty flavorful. I would recommend the ground-meat (shish kabob) and the chicken qorma is so good not oily at all.
Mmmmm, so good! The only complaint I have is that my lamb donair was VERY oily. Other than that, the flavour was great and the meat was fresh and perfectly seasoned.
Afghan Kabob and Donair.. I went out for supper the other night and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The food was great, staff was excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice. I ordered the beef donair and me accompaniment had the lamb donair. Mine was fantastic one of the best donairs i have had in a long time. She also enjoyed her food very much, we are planning on going back during this week and i will maybe write a follow up review.
Try chicken curry!. You can have unlimited naan bread. Try it with various curry. I will say their chicken curry is the best one.
Good food and not oily. Walking inside, I first noticed that the decor was very cleanly done and nothing stood out as tacky (yes, I even admired their collection of hookas). The man at the desk was polite and I placed my order for the Afghan Kabob (beef).
/
Now probably because it's more of a plate than a wrap, it took exactly 15 minutes for it to come out. I noticed that those who ordered donairs and such received their food much more quickly. The salad was light, fresh and crisp. The beef was cooked throughout, thus leaving it a tad dry for my liking. It was also seasoned well on top but the herbs and spices had not infused into the meat, so the "flavor" aspect was only partially present. I agree with previous gourmands that their rice pilaf is very good. My main disliking was the naan, which came out as this petite, lukewarm/warm triangle that was thin and not fresh. It almost seems like an afterthought on the plate, because there really isn't anything to pick up or dip the naan in.

Overall:
I left Afghan with a stomach feeling satisfied (not full, but just satisfied). I found this lunch to be a little on the pricier side ($15), considering what I was getting. The food was cooked with good intention and I would consider coming back to try something else. On a final note, it's great to see that their food isn't swimming in oil. I really appreciate that.
AMAZING. One of the best new restaurants in Saskatoon! The best beef donair that I have had in Canada - fresh, tasty and awesome vegetarian alternatives. You can also smoke sheesha (narguila) here after 8pm.
Excellent staff and atmosphere, but not licensed.
Awesome!!!!! Friendly staff and such amazing flavour! I highly recomend everyone try this place out!
