Was very fast and delicious!! That will be a definite spot to stop everytime I visit saskatoon
From a critical reviewer's view, it still worth 4 out of 5. Although it is called Eastern Dumpling King, but I do recommend their dishes or say "entree". There are only a few Chinese restaurants in the city which I admit as authentic Chinese restaurant. They offer genuine Chinese food which you can find in China, rather than those you may find only in North America. This Eastern Dumpling King is one of the authentic Chinese Restaurant.
Of course the dumplings are great. But give a try to their entrees, and you will thank me.
Fantastic overall experience. Dumplings are all on point and very fresh and juicy on the inside, made with care in this new family restaurant. Massive portions for the price as well. My friends and I are regulars. Highly recommended!
I had the steamed chicken & mushroom dumplings and the kelp. The dumplings were better than the frozen kind you find in the supermarket. The skin had a good texture and you can tell it's not made by a machine. The amount of meat stuffing was just right and it was not too greasy. There was soya sauce, garlic, & sesame hot oil to make your own dipping sauce. I found the dumplings salty enough so that I didn't need to use soya sauce. I was quite surprised by the size of the kelp dish, it was quite large and a good appetizer portion for a party of 3-4 people. It was satisfying and not too spicy and I will order it again. I enjoyed my meal. It was quite authentic Chinese food. The decor inside was better than I expected from the looks of the outside. The server was very friendly and polite. I would recommend the restaurant for casual dining with family or close friends.
Disregard the negative reviews below. This place has the best dumplings in the city! HUGE portions. Almost 20 dumplings for 9 bucks! The owner is friendly and although there's a language barrier, the food is worth it! Also the tea was perfectly steeped. Highly recommend! Great addition to the Asian cuisine in Saskatoon!
My friend and I went here last night, the food was hot, tasty and authentic. We had their vegetable salad, dumplings, fried rice and wonton soup and it was all really good! The owner was quite pleasant and friendly. Which let's be honest, is not a common practice in Asian cuisine restaurants. A reviewer previously wrote that the tea was bland. I found the tea very flavorful and so did my friend. My family is from Asia and we get tea flown from there, and I can tell you this place does not have bland tea. Also, people have mentioned that a few of their side dishes are greasy, you do realize that you are eating Chinese food? You have to expect some oil in their dishes. They are a great addition to the Riversdale community, especially since Jin Jin Dumpling closed down earlier this year. If you are thinking of trying this place, just do it!!
Food was authentic Easting Chinese Cuisine. Unlike the typical Chinese oversized portion with meagre seasoning, these dumplings are beautifully seasoned and balanced. Being from Toronto, it reminds me for place my family goes to to eat all the time. These dumplings are legit amazing. Wonton soup is beef broth based, and light. Food can be on saltier side, but with rice, makes everything delicious.
The service is pretty standard. Parking on the street is decent but can be busy on Friday nights.
price is decent. 28 dumplings for 9-10$.
Great stuff
Incredible Chinese dumplings. You get a large plate of 15 freshly made dumplings for $10. Make sure to dip them in a vinegar+chile oil mixture, it's addictive.
Also, the "Shredded-Potato with Sour Spicy Sauce" is one of my all-time favourite Chinese dishes, and it's fantastic here (and cheaper than other places in Saskatoon, at $9 as of this writing).
If everything on the menu was $1 cheaper, they'd probably have line-ups. Also, the tea was delicious... (and I don't remember paying for it, like another reviewer stated?)
VEGETARIANS - Although there isn't a vegetarian dumpling on the menu (Closest thing has egg) the owner said he will make fresh vegetarian dumplings with 24 hours notice. I'm sure if enough people requested, they'd put it on the menu. There are some other vegetarian dishes too... Tofu and vegetables, and whatnot.
Like many asian restaurants in Saskatoon, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. Music would be nice. But the owner, Bobo, despite limited english, was very friendly and told us all about his home town in China (Harbin) which is famous for colourful ice sculptures. I will definitely be returning, as I have not had dumplings THIS good in Saskatoon yet.
This was such a treat! I used to live in China, specifically the region where this family comes from and the food was exactly as I remember it! The dumplings were amazing! The sweet and sour pork was so authentic and delicious and above all the service was friendly and kind. This is the perfect place to come for REAL Chinese food. I can't wait to go back!
This place serves some amazing, authentic Chinese food. We couldn't believe that we were the only people in the place. If you want the same bland chicken balls, bland fried rice and oversauced sweet and sour pork, go to the same Western style restaurant you always go to. If you want something with flavour, come here.
The eggplant was out of the park, the szechwan tofu even better, and the dumplings and sweet and sour pork (flavoured with lots of ginger, cilantro, not just a starchy sauce) were f*cking awesome. Our party of six ate until we were stuffed, and when the bill came, we paid ONLY ABOUT 13 BUCKS each. I can't wait to come back to this place again.
I really don't understand the bad reviews this place is getting. I went for dinner last night and it was wonderful! The staff was friendly, they brought a nice pot of tea to the table right away - which, unlike what one of the previous reviewers said, was complimentary and not at all watered down.
Everything we ordered was delicious. I'll be back again and often!
We had a good solid meal of chicken and mushroom dumplings, leek, egg and shrimp dumplings, as well as the eggplant and the Szechuan tofu. All were tasty. The eggplant was particularly good.
The place is absolutely great. The server was genuine and attentive to our needs - we never hit the bottom of our glasses of tea. The food was delicious and tasted as if it was homemade - not the typical premade dumplings you tend to get at places. No concerns whatsoever. I highly suggest going!
