I was pleasantly surprised with my Korean poutine! Who knew sriracha, cheese curds, and gravy went so well together? The fries were good, not the best but they were under a bunch of toppings so they really didn't need to be great. I'll be back to try some more unusual flavours.
You wanna eat a poutine? Smokes makes pretty good ones. Serving sizes are great. Had one trip where I went there and the fries were overcooked which basically ruined the poutine but it hasn't happened in a long time.
I have been meaning to come here since it opened over a year ago, and since I was craving poutine last night, I figured why not? It was near closing when I went so we were the only ones there. The woman who served us was incredibly friendly and fast to give us our food (the pulled pork poutine.) We got the "wow" size so the portion was huge; the only down side to my experience here is that today I feel a bit ill (though that could be because I ate too much and not the actual food.)
All in all, positive experience. Will likely return :)
Been promising kid we'd come for lunch. We finally made it in today.
This establishment doesn't have much for seating. Thankfully by the time our order was ready a table opened up so we could sit and eat.
The music playing was good old glam rock. I enjoyed it. Brought back many fond memories of my youth.
Kid ordered traditional snack size poutine and ate it quick so enjoyed it.
Mom ordered the meal size Chicken peppercorn. Which had Chicken, mushrooms and peppercorn gravy. Mom enjoyed hers as well.
I had the Montreal. Which had Montreal smoked meat, pickles, mustard, curds and gravy. I liked the meat and pickles. Fries were cooked well but wasn't a huge fan of the gravy. There was a herby flavour I wasn't fond of.
I'd come back again but would definitely try the peppercorn gravy next time. Maybe then I'd give higher rating.
Service was very friendly and helpful.
The poutine here never disappoints. It's a little on the pricier side for fast food type poutine, but the quality makes it worth it! Real bacon and cheese curds with tasty gravy all on top of crisp fresh fries is always delicious!! The perogy poutine is also especially good! Definitely worth a try!
Never been much of a fan of poutine, but I think Smoke's has given me somewhat of an appreciation for it. I'm orthodox as hell and end up ordering bacon poutine the vast majority of the time, but it is consistently tasty in smaller portions. Generous amount of meat, gravy and cheese curds. Fries are crispy but not dry and the gravy is solid. Sometimes the cheese curds don't melt or get soft enough though.
Also I swear they play the same damn CD with the same 10 AC/DC songs 7 days a week. I wonder how the employees maintain their sanity.
There's a differnce between good and great. Smoke's Poutinerie was good, bordering on very good. Bought an order of Bacon, Dbl Curds, to be fair it was bought from their trailer. There was a good size line and they were pounding orders out quick which was great. Problem, it resulted in the fries not being as crisp or as hot as they should have been and the same goes for the gravy. Didn't need the dbl curds though ...there would have been lots. Could back down a little on the salt in the gravy as well .. found it a little high given there would have been the option to add if it was something you wanted.
All in all a respectable poutine but at ~ 11.00 you might have expected just a bit better, again simply the difference between "good and great".
So it's always a good thing when you get excited to write a review for somewhere. I went going unsure if I'd like it or not because of some of the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the perogy poutine! It was really good. Good gravy, perogies, fries and tons of bacon! I will be going back to try other ones!
Great late night atmosphere! Went here after being out drinking downtown on my birthday. This is the best place for late night food. I got the Montreal poutine and it was really good. The fries were perfect! I'll be back...maybe on not to drunk terms haha.
Just as good as the one in Montreal! I like this place for late night snacking. They have a decent selection of veggie options - I like the rainbow poutine myself because of the mix of cool and spicy flavours on it.
