Service was prompt which was impressive given how busy they were when we were there. I had the chicken burger which was good, the bun was warm and the chicken wasn't horribly dried out. Given the portions I was a little surprised by the prices but given that gastropub is in the name it's probably to be expected.
Went there for lunch and had a great Southwestern Salad. Great portions, very tasty and good service. I will definitely return as its is good value without losing quality of taste.
Best Pizza in town by far. Really like it every time we go there. Great job guys. Burgers are really good as well and different from anywhere else.
I've been here a number of times and I absolutely love it!! The only downside is that there is a small area that has some sort of game machine that can be noisy.
May 30/15 - First time here: food came out very quick. Ordered the phillycheese steak spring rolls to start and they were alright. I think I would try something different next time, but would recommend them if someone asked about them. Got the lasagna as my main and it was great. Very large dish so cut it in half and took half home for lunch next day. The longest wait was for a bills. Will visit again.
Burgers. Skirt Burger with sweet fries
Great food & service. Have been going here for a few times ,food and service was always good
We'll be back. Went for the first time the other day for lunch. We had a steak sandwich and the turkey club wrap. Both were done well. The service was good and the decor is clean and modern. We will go back.
Hidden gem for good food & service in Saskatoon!. I absolutely love this place! If you were ever a visitor of Brothers Two, when you walk in you will not recognize it with it's laid back yet classy atmosphere. It's a favorite of mine for meeting with clients over a drink or a small snack. They have some really unique items on your menu, and although I have been known to hate hamburgers I had a brief love affair with one on their menu. A lot of my clients also rave about the skirt burger. Definitely a hidden gem in Saskatoon and one that shouldn't be kept hidden for long!
Sunday brunch - best kept secret!. We eat at Manhattan relatively frequently, because it is in our neighbourhood.
The food and service are consistently good.
However, one thing that very few people seem to realize is that they serve brunch on Sundays! It is excellent. Not a ridiculous amount of crazy selections that few people want - just a nice variety of breakfast items (a great fresh fruit tray, Eggs Benedict (delicious!), scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, ham, sausage, and omelettes made to order - with seriously more choices of ingredients than I have seen at any other brunch). There is also veggies and dip, salad, and multiple hot choices - today's choices included tomato orzo soup, rice pilaf, chicken/veggie skewers, lasagna, hip of beef (carved on the buffet line) - all very tasty. To top it all off - they make crepes fresh to order, and they are amazing! I am sure I am forgetting some selections - but there is plenty.
I also sincerely appreciate the fact that the buffet table is sized so that the chef attending the hip of beef/omelette/crepe bar is present at all times and is in essence supervising the rest of the food - less likelihood of playing with/touching the food - you get my drift!
In addition - the brunch is amazingly reasonably priced - $15 per person.
We have been to Manhattan for brunch several times - if you don't need 10 huge buffet tables with food that you have never heard of, and would prefer to keep the cost of brunch realistic - I would strongly suggest you give it a try!
Amazing place for our wedding. To Sean and all the staff of The Manhattan. You completely outdid yourselves last night for our wedding.
From the second we met with you in the pub to start organising everything, you were brilliant the whole way.
The meals were amazing
Bam Bam Shrimp - One of the best shrimp dishes I have ever had.
Bbq Chicken wantons - Looked amazing. Everyone who had them, loved them.
Philly cheese spring roll - Again, amazing, everyone was raving about them.
Lobster ravioli - I loved it. I normally don't go for pasta or tomato based dishes, but this blew me away.
Haddock and Chips - Looked lovely. huge portion of nice crispy battered fish. My wife loved it.
The new jack city burger - Wow. I need say no more,
Asian noodle bowl - So many people ordered this. I don't think I have ever seen food vanish so fast.
Deserts - Sundae and banana split type dessert. Perfect after such a big meal.
The pizza's - Lets just say we know where we are going for our pizza and a beer in future. they were awesome.
So to every one there, A huge thank you.
Meals - 5 star
Pizza - 5 star
Champagne - 5 star
Service - 6 Stars (yes 6). Ian was brilliant.
Always Delicious. I have been here a few times now and have never been disappointed with my choices. I've eaten there a part of a large group as well, and with the variety of meals selected, not one complaint was heard. I need to venture from my favourites and try something different!
Despite the openness of the dining area's layout, I have never felt I was in on another table's conversation. I enjoy time spent in a restaurant filled with happy diners; the Manhattan Gastropub delivers enjoyment every time.
I was suprised!. The food was pretty good! It does have kind of a bizarre atmosphere... but nothing to keep me from not going.
GREAT Food! Great vodka specials! if you are a vodka special fan you have to try theirs!!
Decent. Service was good and quick. Burger and french onion soup were tasty. Nice to have an option to get the french onion soup instead of fries. Drinks were tasty and served quickly.
Recent experiences here have not lived up to expectations. This was a "go to" place for me since they opened but their quality standards seem to be slipping. From substituting dried basil flakes on a sandwich featuring fresh basil leaves, to over cooking absolutely every item on their skirt burger (cheese, bun, bacon and hamburger) - those are the little things that will make a usually great experience into a poor one.
-----08 Dec, 2012-----
Nice food and atmosphere. Service not fast but not so slow to be a problem. Clean bathrooms (not the case in many places). Overall great experience and will visit again.
Tried out their new brunch that they recently started doing not too long ago.
Really impressed with quality and freshness of food and the fact that they have a cook making to-order omelets and crepes.
Service was outstanding, server always made sure my coffee was full and very friendly.
I was here once earlier in the summer of 2012 to try the Trifon's Pizza that they serve. Was also thoroughly impressed with food and service on that visit... Pizza was almost exactly like what you'd enjoy if you made the drive to Regina to experience Trifon's firsthand.
Will be back in the future and will bring/suggest friends to check out this establishment.
Had the pork drumettes and wife had the stuffed chicken. We weren't blown away with either, but the food was good enough, service was amazing, drinks were great, and price wasn't too bad either. The menu is packed with options, so we will certainly be back and I would 100% recommend.
Love the Pizza!!!. We had gone here a week ago and the servers were extremely friendly. There was a mix up with drinks but no big deal. We have good and bad to say I guess. My friend had gotten a chicken sandwich (forget what it's called but it's on honey oat bread), it was burnt, that wasn't good. The taco cupcakes are good. They taste just like deluxe mexi fries at Taco Time. The meals themselves weren't outstanding, but the pizza there is really good. We had the marinara sauce with bread and other dips as an appetizer which it was then that I guessed the pizza would be good for it was best marinara I recall ever having. We've had the pepperoni and the bacon & pineapple since then. Last night actually. Soooo Good. Anyway I do suggest trying this place. I'd defintely go again and worst case if the individual meals aren't spectacular, we can just order the pizza.. The people were so nice which makes me want to go back.
Great food, nice atmosphere.. First off, this restaurant has a great atmosphere and great décor. We went at a non-busy time, so that wasn't a problem, we were seating promptly at a comfortable table. We ordered and our food arrived shortly after, looking beautiful. The food was actually very good, I suggest the BBQ Wontons!
Above aerage. In our group of three, all of the meals were acceptable. or better. The weakest thing I can find to say is that their version of rare is a little more cooked than my preference, but that is frequently the case in public.
The salads were crisp and fresh, the onion soup flavourful and not excessively salty (which is all too common in restaurants) and the steak was tender. Our desserts were well done, and well presented, suffering only from the infernal price creep that is so prevalent on dessert menus.
I am comfortable recommending Manhattan Gastropub to my friends.
Have not been disappointed there yet!
Pizza is great. My favorite is the skirt burger. Best beef dip sandwich in town.
Good. Went here quite awhile ago for lunch during the week at around 2ish. From what I remember the service seemed decent but it wasn't very busy when I was there. Both meals ordered were excellent though. Seemed like a nice place with great food and I plan on going back.
Good. I went for supper here one evening with a large group of friends. Although the service wasn't amazing - the waitress frequently forgot drinks, but once reminded of them, she immediately brought them to the table - I did enjoy the overall experience.
The food took a long time to come to the table but there was a large group of us ordering so that's forgivable.
I ordered a pasta dish and was pleasantly surprised - usually I find the pasta at restaurants to be completely overcooked and mushy, but it was well cooked and the sauce was tasteful.
My friends seemed to all enjoy their meals as well - everything was served piping hot and there were no complaints.
Will be back at some point!
AWESOME place GREAT improvement!. Every new place .. has its hiccups right at first....
we went the other night and were VERY IMPRESSED with the improvement of service and food.
We will be going back!
Don't go for lunch. Went a few weeks with some co-workers on our lunch break - I'd like to say that the food was absolutely excellent. Had the Jerk Burger (think that's what it was called?) - very yummy. A few of the other guys had the skirt burger, they were quite happy with it.
Here's the deal. I don't live in the area but work not far from there. I'm sorry but there's absolutely no reason it should take almost an hour to get my food.
I would love to go back there and try some of the other foods but it's just not possible. A shame, we were pretty impressed with the place when we went in.
Service was mediocre - waitress forgot on two occasions to bring me back my drink refill (though brought another guy his drink, which I found odd when she asked us both at the same time if we wanted one). I understand you might be busy, but refills are expected and the norm in most restaurants. Just a minor nitpick.
I'll probably try this place again maybe for dinner or something, but seriously - pick up the pace.
Terrible name - great food. When I see "gastro", I instantly think of big, bloated, heavy, etc. I personally think if they dropped that part and just switched the name to "the manhattan", that part would be more appealing
When we first walked in, the place is nice. First interaction was staff made me think she was just a high school kid in her first job. She got sort of snotty when I asked to go to a different table, but was a decent server afterward. There was another waitress (also high school age) who looked as though she liked her job. There was another young man (ppossiblty manager) who was attentive and kept busy.
I ordered the french onion dumplings to start, loved them. Presentation was pretty. My boyfriend got the japanese teriyaki wings - thought they were cooked well and enjoyed the toasted sesames on them. I had the skirt burger and sweet fries with honey dill sauce. Favourite burger I've had in a while. I think he got the idea from diners, drive ins, and dives but he did it well. Flavourful burger with great pickles and veggies.sweet fries were on par with everyone else. My bf had ribs and caesar, again - same as everywhere else in the city.
I was lookin forward to the make your own smores, but we were too full by the end. All the above plus 2 drinks came to 58.55. Over all - good place
Our experience was awesome! It's a cute little resturant it seats about 20 I'd say. It's modern and a total turn around from the dump Brothers Two. We had a young pleasant waitress who informed us that she was underage. Lots of potential and knew everything we asked for being underage! We didn't mind that drinks took a while to come to us, because in her defense it isn't her fault. Food was awesome! Absolutely to die for. I had the Greek salad to start and then the stuffed pork chop as my entree. Absolutely amazing! I'd go back every Saturday night. My husband had the tear jerker burger and told me it was to die for as well. We were very impressed with the new little resturant up in our area. And very impressed with our server! Didn't seem to catch her name. But would definitely ask for her the next time we were in if we knew!
OK but not awesome.. We went here on a Friday night. We fully expected it to be busy. The entrance area should be larger to accomodate waiting people. We asked if we could go sit by the bar and wait instead of waiting by the door in the way. We were "allowed" to sit but there were four of us and only two chairs. The bartender was awesome and was a lot of fun. We ordered appetizers and drinks at the bar to tide us over. The appetizers didn't come until we were seated over 30 minutes later. I had the skirt burger and it was very good. My boyfriend had the pizza and said it was great. We understood it was busy but by the end of supper there were 8 empty glasses on the table. Also, we all drank quite a bit but nobody was "feeling it". I wondered if they watered down the drinks. We had the Smores for dessert and that was a cool menu item. I would rate this resstaurant a 6.5 out of 10.
Great service. I gave this new restaurant a whirl after hearing about it through coworkers. Nice to have another north end option. I tried the pizza and salad combo for lunch. Very tasty, warm and filling. Servers were attentive and friendly, will certainly pop in for future eats!
Manhattan Gastropub. My wife and I stopped in for a supper this evening - expecting pub grub and a hockey game. We were more than pleasantly surprised. Granted we each had a burger - she had the LMAO and I had the Tear Jerker - both were good although I would have like a 'real hot sauce" instead of a simple bottled spice. Their dessert menu was interesting and while we did not order anything, we watched another table have the "S'Mores" and thought it was creative and fun - roasting your own marshmellows and making your own. The beer and the service were great. Would definitely go back.
The decor was nice. I didn't like the idea of the pub and restaurant so open to eachother. Food was good. I had the skirt burger but would try something different next time. My friends all enjoyed their food. Service was lacking near the end of the meal but wouldnt keep me from going back. We were to full for dessert but loved the idea of the do it yourself smores.
Not bad for a start, but needs work. I can't be entirely too harsh to the folks at Mahattan Gastropub, since I visited them on their first day. But there are certainly some things that need to be worked on:
The Wings: One of the things I liked about their Wings, is that you had so many international options! It wasn't the typical, hot, honey garlic, or teriyaki wings, but there was mexican, jamaican, etc. I chose the Mexican wings, which came out with a tiny Mexican flag on top. Upon tasting it however, I was not impressed with them. The sauce was barely there, and the wings weren't cooked all the way.
Sammy Davis Pizza: Now THIS was a good pizza. The crust was baked to a wonderful golden crisp, and there was enough meat and cheese that there was a perfect balance between cheese, meet and mushrooms.
Campfire Delight: If I had to go back to Manhattan Gastropub for ANYTHING, it would be the Campfire Delight. It is an amazingly unique menu item where you essentially make smores over a little tiny grill(?)
Service: Since it was their first night, I'm not going to be too harsh. However, usually I find that the service is the best on the first night. One of the pitfalls of this restaurant however, is the fact that servers knew next to nothing on the menu items. This is a shortcoming that I feel can be a deal breaker for me. A good restaurant should show and serve their servers the food. Yes, it CAN be costly -- however, in the end you'll have less people saying "we're never coming back to this restaurant again".
I asked the typical questions that you would ask a server (even less than I usually do), such as "What is the campfire delight", "how big is the wings portion size", and she was unable to answer any of my questions. It was disappointing. The second thing that I'm not impressed about, is how they automatically have it so that you pay 20% tip to them. You CAN change the amount of tip to pay less, but when your server is staring at the machine to see if you'll change it, people tend to have the inclination to NOT change the tip. If I were to give a reason as to why I would not go back to this restaurant, this would be one of the main reasons: the service and the somewhat-forced tip.
I don't care what anyone has to say about 20% tip. I WAS a waitress, and I never would expect anyone to tip me this much! If they want to, that's great but 20% is a lot of money. Especially if you're someone who likes going out to eat, those 20% tips add up little by little.
Fantastic! Vodka shrimp pasta was unbelievable, apps were delicious we had garlic bread with 4 different sauces! And the s'mores at the table was interesting! Nice decor, good waitresses!
Lovely!. We read the reviews on Urban Spoon and decided to take the family there last night. It's wonderful to have a north-end family restaurant that is an alternative to Boston Pizza. The service at the Manhattan was excellent, it was clean, tastefully decorated, fair prices and the food was great - exactly what a family restaurant should be!
Great!. Finally the North end has a restaurant that isn't Boston Pizza or the wretched Brother's Two. Like someone else mentioned on this site, I hate the name of the restaurant but the food was amazing! Service staff is a little new ("I'm not sure if we carry Chardonnay brand wine but we have a good white") but I found the growing pains endearing. Great food and very reasonable prices. Atmosphere is great!
I'm new to the area up there and will definitely be returning. Next time I will go in at lunch.
Welcome to the neighborhood!
2 for 2 good!. I just finished my second lunch here, both times it's been good.
The first time, I went simple. A cup of tomato bisque soup and a half greek salad (ended up getting a full one by mistake, but hey... i'm not complaining). The soup was delicious. As was the salad (but how do you go wrong with greek salad).
Today I decided to have the fish and chips, which was AWESOME. The fish was fresh, and only lightly battered. Not at all greasy. My lunch date had the italian grilled cheese (or something like that) and also enjoyed it!
My only bummer, on this second visit, our server was certainly less than smiley.
Overall, a good dining experience! Definitely will be back :)
Hate the name, but the place is ok!. When I hear the word "gastro" used anywhere, I immediately conjure up visions of something huge and bloated with a stomach problem. Or maybe someone looking like the dude in my profile pic. Our first trip to Manhattan was okay. The place is nice, wide open and most importantly, clean. We ordered from their lunch menu which had a good variety of things to choose from. I settled on the Avocado turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries while my wife had the chicken & vegetable wrap with the soup, (beef gumbo which she absolutely loved). The sandwich was pretty good tasting however, they did use processed turkey....yuk. My wife said her wrap was awesome with the first few bites, but then downgraded that to "pretty good" because there was a hint of lime that was a little overbearing. $12 for each meal, with the total coming out to $33 with tip and beverage. It is nice to see a new place in Primrose Plaze replace that dump that that used to call Brothers Two. Not a speck of dust to be seen, nor any little furry creatures scurrying about. I hope these guys stick around for a while.
