The best fish n chips in Saskatoon, and it's not even close. Their fish is always flaky and tender, their fries are thick and taste great. They have no equal.
Had lunch here today and ordered the 1/2 order of their classic “Fish’n Chips”, along with a bowl of “Beef Pot Roast” soup. I enjoyed the savoury soup but not so much the highly processed bun that came with it, a nice fresh homemade bun would really impress future diners. My half order of fish’n chips was perfectly cooked with a gorgeous golden brown batter that added a nice crunchy texture to the cod. The home fries are cut from red potatoes with the skin on and were nicely fried and complemented the fish. Something I found odd was that there wasn’t any malt vinegar on the table, kinda should be as its a staple with fish’n chips. The coleslaw was creamy and fresh and tasty.
Cant beat it!. I have been going to Gibsons for over a decade and never get tired of the fish and chips, not to boot the wonderful and welcoming family atmosphere!
I live out of town & try to make it to Gibson's Fish & Chips every time I come to town. I suspect all the negative reviews come from owners or employees of Jerry's who keep signing in as different people. ;) I order fish n chips or chicken n chips & have always enjoyed the taste, temperature & batter of my meal. It is a family owned & operated establishment that adds to the history of Saskatoon-since I have been going there since the 70's. It also brings a bit of British flavour to the prairies. Be expecting high fatty foods, definitely not your local hipster restaurant!
Tasty!. My family have always been fans of Joey's but last night was almost an hour wait to get in - so we came to Gibson's instead. We got a table right away - but we noticed the place was quite busy for the 2 ladies and 1 young guy working (plus whoever in the kitchen). There was a sign on the door saying "Closed at 7:30", so I wonder if people called in sick.
Anyway - the girl serving us was very friendly and a total sweetheart, she sort of furthered my idea that regular staff had called in 'cause she was a little flustered - but our group of 5 were so all over the place that it was probably our fault lol! Anyway, she was a sweetheart.
2 had the fish and chips, 1 had shrimp and chips, I had the salmon burger and caesar salad and the last in the group had the half chicken and chips. The fish & chips was tasty - not a flaky crust, but almost like a beer batter. The fish was cooked nicely and was perfect with lemon. The shrimp was huge! The half chicken was actually chicken fingers, but they were as good as anywhere. The fries were nice and thick cut (which we prefer) and the gravy was good - though I am pretty sure it's packaged, tasty none the less. My salmon burger was awesome - all meat, no filler. A few raw red onions on top with lettuce and tomato and a dill & garlic aioli sauce. I loved it, super good. Caesar salad was caesar salad.
All of the above with 3 cokes and 2 coffee's was slightly over $75 plus tip. All in all - we enjoyed our meal and would return. Thumbs up to the staff who ran like crazy to help everyone.
Good. On the pricey side, but that's true of seafood pretty much anywhere on the prairies. Scallops were 'melt in your mouth', but had a slight fishy taste. Fish and chips were very good, though the fish was a little on the salty side. Would I go back? Yes.
I love this place. It's the first place that I've been to that taste like the fish and chips you would get from England. I've taken a very good Welsh friend out for super there and he says it's just like home! They just make great chips!
Best Fish and Chips. If you want deep fried fish and chips then this is the spot. Do not go here for a healthy meal. Staff is friendly and food is fast.

Awesome Salad.. This place is known for its fish and chips but I highly reccomend the ceaser salad. It was the best ceaser salad I have ever had. I often find restaurant ceaser salads are drenched with dressing, overflowing with fake bacon bits and filled with huge tooth breaking croutons. The Gibson salad had the perfect amount of what tasted like homemade dressing, fresh parmesan, and fresh croutons. It was perfection. Also a very nice way to balance out the greasiness of the fish.
Friendly, tasty, and quick. The atmosphere is very warm, friendly, and laid back. Each battered piece of fish is large and not hidden in an obtrusively excessive layer of batter (as witnessed in too many other establishments). The fish is fried fresh, and the coating of batter light and complimentary to the flavours of the fish.
If you're not a fish fan (or allergic), then their chicken fingers are fried in an equally fresh manner and served in a stomach-filling quantities. Although not as unique as their fish, it's still not too bad. Fries are thankfully not coated in excessive sodium, and taste genuinely homely. Coleslaw is also tasty and not overpowering.
Food came out in 11 minutes and our server was kind. Admittedly, many of the diners did indeed have white hair, but I still enjoyed the food.
In conclusion, one gets a very filling portion of fish and chips for a more-than-fair price, in an unpretentious atmosphere.
