Review Olive Tree Restaurant & Blacktop Diner - Saskatoon

Deb Pryslak
Such an interesting place. Amazing restaurant more high end and great Mediterranean cuisine. This place has a liquor store, some groceries, fireworks and food items like spices and olive oils from Crete. Staff are so Friendly. We found the place from Jenn Sharp's book Flat out Delicious. Saskatchewan author.

Went for motherday with my mom, wife and kids. Had heard multiple times to food was amazing from friend but had ever gone before. They were right! Every dish that my family ordered was amazingly. The doup for a starter was great and the meal was topped off with the best deserts I have ever had. Service was so friendly and excellent that we will definitely be going back. Also the store attached has many unique items and spices.

Driving home from Blaine Lake to Saskatoon, we are hungry so in the middle of nowhere we stop for a bite to eat at an antique shop that also sells gas, has a small store with liquor, and a Greek restaurant. We order the grilled meat platter for two. Waitress informs us they are out of hamburger and will have to substitute. Platter arrives with 6x chicken breasts on a spear, 4x pork souvlakis, 4x Frenched lamb chops, and the burger substitution of 4x more lamb chops, and a small Greek salad, lemon, and tzaziki. Chicken breast was divine, pork and lamb was well done. Olive Tree Restaurant & Blacktop Diner, $65

Went there for lunch to and was so disappointed after hearing such good thing from many people. Ordered the lunch special which was lasagna that was over cooked to the point the noodles were turning black. It was very bland with no real distinctive flavour. When I went to pay that’s where the real disappointment was. The special and 2 glasses of pop came to $38.80. I couldn’t believe the price… definitely won’t be going back and will be telling everyone I know how bad the food was. The only reason I gave 1 star was because they have great service and were very nice and polite

What a fabulous little Greek oasis on the Saskatchewan prairie! We had lunch today for a Canada Day 🇨🇦 outing and very much enjoyed the food, the service and even the little store selling authentic Greek foods, (and International liquor). The olive oil and the olives are their own products and are very reasonably priced.

Lovely, family owned, delicious restaurant. Omg. It was so good, we ordered extra just to take home. Husband and I had the pita special. Pork, onions, tomatoes, tzikki, and fries in a homemade pita bread. It was mind blowing mother in law had Pasta and Shrimp. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce was nothing I had before. We ordered desert. Homemade. It was so good and perfectly sweat, creamy, out of this world desert. Sorry forgot to take pictures. I will, because we WILL be back.

What a wonderful experience! Outdoor seating is nice, but it’s right by the highway, so that’s dealer’s choice. Inside has nice ‘50’s diner atmosphere, so we enjoyed our meal here. Very good food, large portions, you will not go away hungry & probably with a take away container! Nice comfortable seating, very nice restrooms, comfortable temperature. We went for lunch & service was maybe a little slow because the guy was managing the front register as well, but nothing intolerable & quite understandable. People were coming in for gas or ice cream, so it was busy. Delicious food, large selection of ice cream, very friendly service! Definitely going to come back again, highly recommended! Yes, please!

We had a wonderful evening and enjoyed an incredible meal. Can’t say enough about this wonderful family restaurant. We will definitely be back. Big thanks to Katarina and Michael!

OMG! What a gem of a restaurant! The owner is a wonderful host, and the food is amazingly tasty, and great quality.<br/>I can't wait to go back and try other dishes!<br/>The Greek platter is a must have! Everything is freshly prepared and delicious, and healthy portions too.

Very disappointing, first, it took about 10 minutes to even get menus, then they ignored us for about half an hour (during that time, they took some other customers orders, but didn't even acknowledge our table) and eventually we just left. Seems like they'll only serve you if you're a friend of the owner?

Have been wanting to stop at this interesting place for a few years....finally had the opportunity to stop in on our way home from a fishing trip. Was super disappointed! Were told that most of the restaurant was reserved for a private supper. We were told they could not serve us today because of the reservation. I understand that its important for them to take on reservations for large groups..but  as a business along the highway you should always keep room and be prepared for others to come as well.

Great experience! Its an amazing restaurant for being a gas station that advertises fireworks and ice cream! It was truly authentic Greek cuisine (having never been to Greece myself, however....) It also has a 1950's diner, coca cola, Marilyn Monroe theme which was just really cool. The menu was excellent! Dokus and Tzatziki for appetizers; the Tzatziki was amazing! The Greek coffee is a must for dessert, but only if Tim Hortons is not your normal fair. We ordered the Moussaka and the Greek burger for entrees, and by that time we were stuffed already as we also received an unexpected Greek chicken soup, which was to die for. The Greek burger came smothered in this amazing goat cheese mushroom sauce; the sides were thinly cut, dollar chip potatoes smothered in their featured, organic, olive oil (of which I picked up a bottle upon leaving), and even more freshly baked pita bread (going to need more Tzatziki!) Finally, their wine list was excellent, featuring famous Greek, organic wines (I especially like the ones made by monks); all of which offered pairing suggestions based on their entrees! The absolute highlight was the owner himself, explaining the dishes, taking pride in his food. He looked absolutely devastated when we asked to pack up some food because we were beyond full! We didn't even get to have dessert! Oh well, thats for next time, because I'm definitely going back! <br/><br/>The only downside is the distance. Easily an hour drive from home whether you are leaving from Saskatoon or Prince Albert. The plus is, dining should not be a 20 minute "shove a burger down your throat" affair. This offered a drive, scenery, a relaxing evening, and a very unique experience! <br/><br/>I haven't said anything about the price because, well, c'mon you cheapskates!

After wanting to dine here for the last few years we finally made it. The exterior is quite charming. You enter the restaurant through the gas station, which had all sorts of goodies. Many options for ice cream, fire works and a section with specialty Greek items. The Greek items were vast and wanted to buy some such as spices, oils, soaps and kitchen items. My plan was to get some on the way out. But we ate so much I couldn't even look at the items. <br/>We started off with the Greek plate. There were 5 different dips, cukes, tomatoes, spanakopita and pita bread. A little on the pricy side $15/pp. I wasn't very fond of the spanakopita it was stingy on the cheese and flavour and a little doughy. The dips were quite good though. <br/>My sister in law had the pepper steak. She asked for it med well. It came out more med rare. She loved the sauce. <br/>Brother in law had the steak Diane. Med rare. Steak was cooked to temp. Though he loved the potatoes and veg that came with he didn't particularly like the sauce. <br/>Spouse had the mixed grill. That came with 2 different souvlaki, 2 lamb chops, 1 large sausage and a Greek patty that resembled a burger patty. The sides were fried potatoes, sliced tomatoes, tzatziki and pita. To be honest all meats except the sausage were over cooked. <br/>I had the moussaka. I must say I love this dish but have had it in other places only to be very disappointed. But here I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. I would come back specifically for this dish. My side was a Greek salad. <br/>We wanted to sample some desserts but we were all way too full. <br/>The owner was such a friendly happy man thus far outweighed the negatives. He was an absolute gem. This giving the higher rating.<br/>Spouse and I plan on returning to buy some specialty items.. Before eating... Myself to enjoy moussaka and spouse to try something else off their menu.

Amazing!!!!!!! Stop right now! We dropped into this little gem early afternoon and bought some amazing olive oils...on the way home we stopped for dinner and I have to say WOW!! What a great experience 😍. I ve been to Greece and this took me right back there with the flavours. The owner was such a wonderful man, and his wife an exceptional chef! I recommend this place hands down! If your a foodie you ll be extremely happy. Thank you Michael for the wonderful experience start to finish 😊

To be honest - not impressed in the least.  Meal was ok but just that and extremely overpriced for what we got on our plate. We all ordered the souvlaki with one of us ordering the potatoe fries instead of greek salad. He got pita bread and tzaziki sauce, the rest of us didnt. We asked the waitress if we could have some and she stated they were out of it.....in a greek restaurant? out of tzaziki sauce? The meat however was tender and moist. The greek salad was fresh and tasty. THats all I can comment on because thats all we got on our plates. The restaurant was nice, with a 50's flair with interesting of things to look at.

Bad first impression. After hearing so much about this place, we set aside our Sunday lunch (with driving time) to find out what all the fuss was about. We had called the evening before to make sure they would be open for lunch, and we're assured they would be.<br/><br/>After an hour drive to get to the Olive Tree, we're were informed upon entering that it was closed. Dismayed, we pointed out we called yesterday and we're told they would be open. The cold, detached and utterly unapologetic woman said they normally are open, but had run out of supplies, and didn't know when they would re-open.<br/><br/>What an awful first experience. It will be a long time before we set aside two hours travel time to visit again - if ever.

Great discovery.. We got there with a group of 4 and we had an amazing evening. Michael was an amazing host, we all had different dishes and we all were very impressed with the food! It was delicious, the wine was great, and the desert was even better! Thanks Michael for agreat meal and a very entertaining evening! We will be back!

Unexpected surprise ... Mostly good. Went there around 6-ish, the place was practically empty. The setting was kinda weird cause you have to go through a cozy convenience store in order to get to the diner itself. A nice big painting on left hand side of the wall showing downtown of stoon which is a plus. We were directed to our table fairly quick, and spent time to look at the menu. Since the website does not have a menu, we were not sure what to expect as well as the price range for this place. Dishes described on the menu sound lovely, but I would say alittle overprice. I mean you could have go to a nice steakhouse for that price really. We wanted to order baby lamb, however it's not available. Didn't order drinks or appetizers, we had signature steak and mixed grill. Both were served with the soup, not sure what that was, lemon chicken rice soup maybe, tasted yummy. The mixed grill was a huge plate of grilled meat which can easily feed two people, it's a combination of sausage, burger, chicken kebab, pork kebab, lamb chops with tzatziki sauce. Meat was juicy and flavorful. Here is the surprise, "star" of the evening, the signature steak. The presentation was not very appealing, the steak was smothered in a thick mocha sauce with ripe banana. Pretty sure the banana has been cooked in alcohol cause it was bitter. First bite of the steak was not as bad as it looked, it was tender and actually the sauce was not bad with the steak, it just doesn't look very appetizing. Overall, we had a decent experience.

Won't be back !!. We've often driven by the 1950's Blacktop Diner and finally decided to stop in. With all the "retro" booths, chairs, etc. the place looked great, but had absolutely nothing in common with the menu. $36 for a Greek Burger, $8 for a bowl of soup. We were expecting "diner" type food with a "diner" price. Thankfully, when we asked for just a bowl of soup, the waiter said it would take another 10 minutes to cook. We said we couldn't wait, excused <br/>ourselves and won't return.

A Hidden Prairie Gem. As part of trips from the Battlefords to Saskatoon to attend Persephone Theatre, another couple, my wife and I dine at what we like to think are the best restaurants in Saskatoon and area. We have visited at least 25 over the past four or so years.<br/>Yesterday, we chose The Olive Tree Restaurant and Blacktop Diner. It rates a 10 out of 10 and is one of the best three or four restaurants we have visited: if not the best.<br/>The owners, Michael and Georgia, are the most engaging hosts one would ever ask for. Michael is outgoing, welcoming, interesting and, if I might say, charming. Georgia who is the chef and extraordinary in that role is more reserved but equally welcoming, interesting and charming. They made us feel like long lost friends even though this was our first visit to their establishment.<br/>We "rolled the dice" and asked that they serve a meal they would present to good friends and we "hit the jackpot". The course choices and wine parings they presented were wonderful.<br/>We will forgo searching for new places in Saskatoon on our next trip to visit the Olive Tree and the other couple is going to arrange a pre-Christmas gathering of friends from Saskatoon and the Battlefords to have dinner with Michael and Georgia.<br/>Thanks Michael and Georgia. <br/>Oh yes, this is not an "eat and run" place. It is relaxed and the meal was served in a most civilized time frame. Count on two and one-half hours.

Glaring contrasts!. Might be a fine place if you desire fine dining for a good price, but we'll not be back to find out. As lunch stop, it disappointed. After actually brushing a dead fly from the center of our table, I found little on the menu for me, a vegetarian, so I gave my friend the farmer's sausage from an order of perogies and cabbage rolls combo. In return I got the tomato from his hamburger. By adding the pink salt and cayenne pepper I always carry, my plate was okay, but most unremarkable. My friend's hamburger was also 'fine', but again not remarkable. With no drinks or dessert, we were charged $34 before tip. Wondered later if that was an error as we each thought our order was under $14. DEFINITELY not worth it in comparison to closer places with good service. We were the second of two occupied tables, around 2pm, received our food 32 minutes after sitting down, and were gagged by the server's overpowering, cloying cologne or aftershave. Then we stood and waited to pay our bill in the little store while the cook-waiter-storekeeper chatted with some friends. Bathroom reno's are a hopeful sign and should be very nice when completed.

Disappointed. We were there last night as well and were very disappointed with our disappearing host. After staring at our empty plates for an hour my husband went in search of him ( he seems to wear a number of hats and serves in the store as well) We asked for baklava and coffee but he said he had a better dessert so we waited, and waited some more and decided to leave. The pastichio was excellent and my lamb was very tender but at $42 for a bottle of wine and a long drive it just isn't worth it. The food might be excellent ( on a good day) but service is very off hand. We deserved better and won't be back either. No apology given when we respectfully pointed out that we were not prepared to wait any longer-good food is no excuse for indifferent service, especially when the restaurant was less than half full. I can think of better ways to spend $111!

Service was quick but we were only the second table there last evening. Our food came quickly. The pistatsio was one of the specials. It was a 4" square serving that was okay but greatly over-priced at $26.95 with a small Greek salad and a complimentary cup if lukewarm lemon chicken rice soup. I had the moussaka at $22.50 and when I asked he said I could have Greek salad with it. I also received the complimentary lukewarm soup. The moussaka was room temperature at best and had clearly been microwaved from a frozen state, with the water surrounding it on the plate. The owner/ server did not come back to check on our meal, a few more tables of patrons arrived. He was nowhere to be found & in fact two people waiting more than 10 minutes (at least) left before he ever reappeared. The disappointing food and food bottle of wine was $93. We won't be back.

Home Cooked Authentic Greek. Approx. 1/2 from Saskatoon on Highway 12. Before Petrofka Bridge.<br/>- nice Diner-style decor with traditional Greek Music/Ambiance<br/>- authentic home cooking with a greek flavour<br/>- great home made patty the way a european would make the burger with lots of flavour, not too greasy etc....<br/>- side dip should be Tzatziki not sour creme<br/>- great imported olive oil selection of "real" olive oil not the fake stuff from grocery stores<br/>- great fresh 'flat' fries and fresh grilled pita shell instead of bun

Absolutely wonderful food. My husband and I were both very impressed with our appetizer and main course. What a nice surprise this restaurant was! We will definitely go back!

Not worth the drive. Made a reservation. Got there & were seated right away. Sat for 45 minutes. Waiter came to take order but we had no menus. Definite language barrier - wanted to try the eggplant salad & soup and told it comes with so ordered moussaka - did not get salad or soup. An hour later waiter returned to say no moussaka & recommended the meatballs instead so I agreed to that. We were there 4 hours. The meatballs sucked for the price - for a few meatballs on top of some potatoes. Overall it is over priced for the food, atmosphere and definitely for the service!

Beat Greek food I have ever had, coupled with the most amazing and authentic atmosphere.<br/>It is a dining experience and can't wait to return!<br/>Thank you for the amazing hospitality.

I have made two attempt at this place since it re-opened. One for lunch last week and this weekend for supper. I order a burger for lunch and it was not completely cooked. Very disappointing. The supper food was good but it took for ever. As far as I'm concerned not worth the drive from the city.

Amazing food! The service was personal but a little slow, we waited over an hour for our food and there was 2 other tables in there, but WORTH the wait!! I had the pepper steak and when it comes to food prices you definitely got what you paid for!

Fantastic food. Love the decor. Have had lunch + dinner here. Great place

Olive Tree. We had a party of ten. And 10 out of 10 LOVED the food. IT was a busy night and only one server, but she rocked it. Steaks were AMAZING and the pasta was absolutely perfect.<br/><br/>If you havent been there, you are missing out.

The total experience. On September 5 2012 I had the pleasure of taking my sales team out to Dine at The Olive Tree. Talking with Michael before hand he set the expectation of what we could expect. " If you are coming here wanting atmosphere of high society you are in the wrong resteraunt." "However if you are looking for a quaint, cozy and friendly place you certainly have the right place. Here you will enjoy the best Greek food you have tasted on the prairies."<br/>Starting with a great wine list, with great consideration to quality and year and the Greek beer. The Home made soup second to none I have ever tasted. Greek appetizers were like nothing I have experienced, contrasting tastes and flavor with each bite. The appetizers take your palet to a place less traveled. AMAZING!<br/>As you move to the entrée, you feel as if you somehow shouldn't be able to enjoy more. Then the main course arrives, the presentation is pleasing to the eye until you treat your taste buds the I lost site an closed my eyes and savored each bite. Micheal attention of detail an customer engagement is spot on. I asked to be introduced to the lady chef, who created my signature entree. (Georgia) It was then I found out the inspiration for my dish. When I requested something special, she looked from the kitchen out at me assessing me without my knowledge. What she saw in me was a medium rare steak covered in chocolate, bananas and pineapple with hints of mocha and espresso. It was truly the best dining experience I have had ANYWHERE! I write this review with a conflicted heart, to share this with the world or to imagine this experience was only mine!<br/><br/>I have returned on a personal note and look forward to hosting my Senior Leadership Team at The Olive Tree. The best Team building event ever. Congratulations Michael & Georgia, you have created an experience that money can't buy!

Great Food. What a wonderful whimsical restaurant! They are also a gas station and the price was $.06 a litre less than in Saskatoon. We decided to stay for supper where I had the Greek burger and my husband had the Spaghetti Napoli. It was the best tasting spahetti and burger that we have had. We then topped off the meal with ice cream. Wonderful selection of both hard and soft ice cream. Highly recommend the short drive to this great restaurant.

Definately worth the drive!! :). I have been wanting to make the little trip out to this cute little restaurant for quite a while and I glad that we finally did!!! My parents, myself and hubby and my two boys (7 & 3) made it for supper tonight. The restaurant was cute and casual and the waiter/waitress were VERY kind. A little bit of a mixed message as to what the dress "code" was as the restaurant is so casual, including the waitstaff (jeans and tshirts) and yet most of the patrons were dressed up at least in business casual and the website says Fine Dining. I guess it just makes it a restaurant for everyone!! :) The complimentary homemade lemon chicken rice soup was yummy, and the crackers were DELICIOUS (my boys loved the soup). My boys split the Bolognese Spaghetti and I of course had to sample it and it was DELICOUS (the hint of nutmeg was fabulous)!!!The portions were huge and my boys ate like crazy but hardly made a dent. My husband had the Moussaka and REALLY enjoyed it...I sampled it as well and it was very flavorful and yummy. My Dad had a steak but couldn't remember what it was called..hehe..but said it was tasty. My Mom had the Alfredo Spaghetti and tried to be nice but didn't enjoy it. There was a LOT of butter (pooling in the bottom of the plate) and it was REALLY rich...too rich...the first few bites were good but then it just got overwhelming. I had the Dianne Steak (requested Medium Rare)... it came out and it was definately Rare which I am ok with but I know it would have been too rare for people. The sauce was DELICIOUS!!!! Very large steak that was very tender and tasty. The veggies were sooo tasty with all the greek seasonings and the fresh garlic bun was divine dipped in the Dianne sauce...mmmm...I am drooling again. Just a warning the Main dishes are all mostly $25-$35 unless you get pasta....but the portions were very large and the food was VERY tasty so the price was right on par. We got there at 6pm and didn't finish eating till almost 8pm, but having the food freshly made was definately worth the wait. Will we go again? Absolutely and will definately recommend it to friends!! :)

Response to Famous Gourmet. I believe you have made a mistake with your last review, I'll give you a couple of reasons why..... 1) the Olive Tree Restaurant does not serve drinks, yes they do serve speciality wines and imported beer, not your standard highballs... 2) The Olive Tree Restaurant does not serve Sandwiches, If im not mistaken a true greek salad does not contain any lettuce, therefore you would be hard pressed to find any lettuce in the restaurant. <br/>The final point i want to address is the fact that when you wrote your review, on march 29/2012... The Olive Tree Restaurant was closed for renovations and had been closed for 3 months before your review, not actually re-opening until just before mothers day.<br/>I'm sure that if you had actually made a visit to the Olive Tree, your opinon would be quite different and you could actually make a real review on food that is on the menu.... btw, the Olive Tree Restaurant is located 50km north of Saskatoon on highway 12.... not near Regina.

Interesting. The restaurant is worth the drive. Diners are surprised to find good food in a somewhat rustic and out of the way place. A reservation is a must because there may not be empty tables when you get there and the owners try to space out orders to keep the kitchen from being overloaded. <br/><br/>Increasing popularity is causing the owners to experience some growing pains. Service is very friendly and helpful, but can also be noticably slow. The extra help they hire is not always as personable as the owner himself. They use the till in the gas station to process payment. This means tracking someone down when you want to leave or waiting until all the tables are served.<br/><br/>The ribs ($28) are excellent and probably enough for two people. The curry chicken is also worth the drive. I'm told that the lamb is very good as well. The pastas are ample, but bland.<br/><br/>The restaurant is an interesting place to take a friend; a kind of dining adventure. It is not a place for quick or inexpensive eating.

My wife and I have been out to the olive tree a few times now, we always leave happy. The food is amazing, Georgia is a fantastic chef! Micheal treats everyone with respect and courtesy, no matter how old they are. The servings are HUGE so be prepared for leftovers. Amazing amazing amazing!

Holy Shizel!!!. Wow - I cannot believe that we are in the middle of nowhere and have a place that is so special to enjoy, savour and boast about to all our friends all over the world. We are lucky enough to have a Chef like Georgia and an owner like Michael. Words cannot explain the taste and the experience that we had the pleasure of being a part of. The wines were chosen after we ordered to suit our dinner. The Greek Appetizer platter was off the chart. I can't even tell you how off the hook the dips were - really I can't. We each had something different from the main menu. We all shared a bite or two - if you were lucky. This is a must to go there. It is a gem that is hidden here in the middle of Saskatchewan. We could not stop raving about the steak with grapes - yes I said grapes - get over it. Creamy ouzo pasta with perfectly cooked shrimp. So decadent. Greek ribs with an amazing Greek salad - ohhhh and the lamb - my god you have to try the lamb. If you are looking for fast this is not for you - If you are looking for something you might experience in Dubai for the food quality - This is a must for all you foodies. One last thing - Eggplant salad. I am not saying anymore about the food - Thank you to you wonderful people for sharing your gift with us.

You have not lived until you have experienced this restaurant!. The venue is unique and full of history. Micheal and his wife are an absolute delight! The food is simply divine. My fiance will not even think of going for steak anywhere else since he experienced steak the Olive Tree way. Everything is made from scratch with love and extreme attention to detail. We have gone there so very often and seldom even look at a menu but talk with Mike and he tells us what we want. He has not been wrong yet! The wine selection is exceptionally good, Mike's advice on which wine to have with his wife's creations is bang on every time. I have tried almost every dish on the menu, have never had anything even remotely off, just the opposite. Every dish is perfection. One of my favorite things is to sit back in my chair and listen to all the other diners exclaim in delight over their food. First timers are especially fun to watch as Mike works his magic! I have yet to see a first timer that does not ask to meet the chef to tell her personally how wonderful her food is. It is worth the drive, I would walk to get there to enjoy their fare. Go. Enjoy & be amazed that such quality, service and perfection still exists! Thank you Mike and your darling family for bringing us so much joy!

Great Experience. We went with a large group of 9 and it was a pleasant evening. The food was amazing, although not many options for vegetarians. They were good about accommodating a gluten allergy. I ordered one of the vegetarian pasta dishes (there are only two types) and my husband ordered the Greek Ribs that were on special that night. He said they were amazing. My pasta with a tomato sauce was so fresh. The appetizer platter is huge and has some great stuff on it. One of our friends ordered the Mixed Grill Plate and it was literally a huge plate full of assorted meats - lamb chop, sausage, meat patty, souvlaki, ribs. We had an amazing Sicilian wine at the recommendation of the owner.<br/><br/>Couple odd things ... our 'server' who I assume is the owners' daughter was a bit stunned. Any time one of us would ask a question she would look scared and then walk away to get the owner. It was mostly humourous but it was a bit awkward. Maybe we are a scary bunch? :)<br/><br/>The restaurant was HOT. I never ever complain about the heat but a few of our friends were a bit overheated.<br/><br/>Overall we all really enjoyed this place and the unique atmosphere. The owner who spent a lot of time explaining things was just hilarious. He was just right out of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" (not to be too stereotypical.) Haha.

Some of the best food anywhere! Michael has created a unique experience, combining the diners history with fine food. Do not expect to rush in and out. We were three hours, and one bottle of wine. You won't be dissapointed!

Appetizer Journey. Since travelling past this establishment on our way to and from the farm my wife , youngest son and myself decided to check out the menu and taste the cuisine. We arrived quite late but were pleasantly greeted by Micheal ( the owner ) who gratiously spoke with us and helped guide us through the various dishes. My wife and I settled on the Appetizer Plus , which is an incredible flavourful sampling of all the appetizers on the menu and the portions were not miniscule by any means. Our son ordered the shrimp pasta which was exquisitely done to perfection and the sauce was unquestionably mouth watering. The journey that our senses encountered was solely due to Georgia , whose world wide 7 star culinary expertice is the hidden treasure that makes the Olive Tree and Black Top Diner a must. This is fine dining that must be sampled at a pace that is slow and relaxing. Micheal and Georgia make your mediterranean cuisine experience a definite journey just like travelling through their home country of Crete. This is Saskatchewans closest trip to experience Mediterranean cuisine and hospitality at its finest. Enjoy....I know we did and will.

Pleasantly Surprised. My wife and I were most pleasantly surprised with the whole dining experience. The portions were overly generous and very pleasing to the palet. Most highly recommended. Also enjoyed the music and song on a Saturday night. We will return, and will also tell our friends about this amazing little restaurant. Thanks Mike (owner-operator).
Mary-Dee
Awesome. This is the second time at the restaurant and once again a fantastic experience. The food is outstanding as is the service and the pleasant conversation with Mike the owner. Georgia's creations from the kitchen are not only a work of art but will make your tastebuds sing. If you haven't gone out, you are truly missing out.

Great experience!. Our party of four made the short trek to the dinner for a Saturday night outing. The Olive Tree came highly recommended so we thought we would give it a try. We weren't disappointed!! Michael was a perfect host - guiding us through the menu and suggesting various options as well as wine to compliment our meal. Every meal was exceptional. We will be back with many of our friends.

Amazing Dining Experience. We've been to the Olive Tree several times, each time with friends, and we have all come away with the same point of view. The food is unique and flavourful, and the presentation is exquisite! More than a wonderful meal, each dish is an experience. Well worth the short drive; rewarding in every way! Congratulations to owner, Michael, and 7 star chef, Georgia, for bringing this quality in dining to the Saskatoon area.

Lunch Wow. Greek Burger for Lunch<br/>2 patties that melt in your mouth, incredible. <br/>That cheese sauce and the spice leaving you wanting more. A totally surprising experience in the middle of the prairie landscape. Going back? Without a doubt we'll be back to experience more of the fantastic creations. Funky fifties diner, meets the best the MED has to offer in food.

Outstanding. Six of us drove out for dinner last Saturday night. It was well worth it- the meals, appetizers, desserts and service were far above our expectations. Michael made suggestions and guided us through a thoroughly enjoyable evening. They were even able to supply a selection of gluten free foods for one of our party. I highly recommend the Blacktop Diner and look forward to becoming a regular customer.

Fantastic Diner. I've had a second meal at this unique little place & enjoyed every bite again. The food is amazing & the service second to none and the atmosphere very unique. I've been part of a group of friends who for the past several years tries a new dining experience once every couple of months and this place definitely stands out as one I'll go back to with friends & family. Try it out ~ you'll love it!

Excellent Mediterranean and Greek food. A 7 star European Chef who came out and met our family and a great owner. A very unique place with great service. It was more than a dining experience, it became a family memory.
