Review Vietnamese Roll - Saskatoon

Finn Baird McConnell
Had dinner here while in Saskatoon for work. Really pleased with the friendly staff and tasty food. I would recommend the Pho. The spring rolls were super fresh, and their homemade chili oil (which I think had soybean curd in it?) was super spicy and delicious. Will definitely stop here again if I get the chance.

This place is amazing. Had lunch with my wife and a friend. Try the house made hot sauce. It is great. Super friendly staff, super quick service. I wish I lived locally. This would be my favourite place.

Best Noodle Bowls ever!! Amazing fast service, smiles and delicious food! Our noodle bowls were so fresh and tasty, and the homeade chili garlic sauce is a must. The spring rolls can't be beat, and our shrimp fresh rolls and delicious peanut sauce, were perfect!! Very happy to have been here on your opening day. Welcome Trung and Family! We look forward to your delicious food again! Kevin and Michelle

Ordered the Pho on a chilly evening with the beginning symptoms of a cold. Absolutely delicious, piping hot and even loved by my snobby Pho husband! Will absolutely order again.

A new favorite for me. The best vegetarian noodle bowl I’ve had in the city. Friendly atmosphere and staff.

The food here is just okay! I've been here three times and every time the food is a little off. I won't be going back for a fourth experience. They have friendly service but subpar food.
Ally
always a great experience here and even better food! the man who owns it and deals with customers first hand is such a pleasure to talk to. he actually remembers me just by my order which is such a nice thing and says a lot about how much they care. very very accommodating as well for a picky vegetarian :)

We originally were going to stop at another establishment today but ended up coming here. It was close to 2 o'clock when we arrived so we were the only ones there.we were greeted by an older man who immediately I assumed was the owner. He said we could choose a seat wherever we liked. Very friendly.
I tried one of the Vietnamese drinks. A lychee drink. It was different than what I had expected but pretty good.
We started off with the spring rolls. When they arrived we were a little surprised by the size. They're quite large. The owner when dropped off said they were the best in Saskatoon. They were pretty good. Don't think the best in the city but we enjoyed them.
I ordered the #56. The sizzling Satay Beef (hot) and a side of rice. The dish came out sizzling away as it should be. I was shocked to see how much beef there was. Also plenty of fresh veg such as mushrooms, onions, red and green pepper, carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower. This was too much food for me alone. Didn't touch the rice but packed it up with the rest of my food. Will be plenty for lunch tomorrow.
Spouse had the #40. Satay Beef with vermicelli. Again this meal had an impressive amount of meat. With lots of veg. Same as above. When paying the gentleman jokingly said "see you tomorrow". Spouse said probably not tomorrow but very soon.
Our next visit I'd like to try the soup.
All in all we left very satisfied. I'd return without any hesitation.

Very good and fast service, the vietnamese rolls are some of the best I've had and I always get the satay chicken on rice which is delicious, my boyfriend said the noodle bowl was 'pretty good' with lots of meat! Will continue to go back when craving vietnamese food!

Cold Rolls are Great. Went last night for the first time and had an enjoyable meal. The cold chicken rolls were really good and we really enjoyed them. We had the special which was pork over vermicelli rice noodles which was also very good. Service was friendly and quick and we liked the fresh look of the place. Only downside -- the menus were a little greasy.... ick. Probably will be back sometime in the not distant future.

I always leave disappointed :(. I don't know why but I went back here for the third time. I guess I keep trying to like it because the people that work there are so friendly and nice? I didn't feel like trekking far for some Vietnamese food so I figured I'd stick to my neighborhood. Im alway so diappointed with my order. I order different things each time to try and find something i love.. Its just really not good. Last night i ordered shrimp cold rolls, wonton soup, beef with rice, ginger sauce and veggies and their noodle bowl that had every kind of meat it in. I tasted everything as we ordered the items to share. I wouldn't order any of those items again. The cold rolls were smaller. They were about the width of a spring roll. The noodles, rice & soup had very little flavours and the wontons were super disappointing. Im kinda also concerned about their desserts. On their window they have a painted sign that says homemade desserts. When i looked in their dessert case, nothing appeared to be homemade. They all look liked store bought cakes to me!! I never ordered a dessert so I can't comment on if it was good or not. I just really wanted to have an unreal Vietnamese restaurant in Stonebridge and this place is not it. Even though Im not inlove with Hot Wok, I will order my food from there from now on when I am too lazy to leave my neighborhood.

Ordered a few items for pick up tonight and was happy overall.
The spring rolls are better than most and the Singapore fried noodle was also a solid 8.
Will definitely order there again.
Jennifer
Amazing Vietnamese rolls. This place has the best Vietnamese rolls! I heard from a friend about this place and decided to give it a try. I am seriously impressed with the excellent service and friendliness of Lee and his staff!
Mcmillan463
Best V-Rolls in Saskatoon. Excellent food and the prices is very reasonable. Been there three times and it is quickly becoming my favorite Asian restaurant. Pad Thai is excellent as is the Singapore noodles and the fresh rolls but the Vietnamese rolls are incredible!

Highly recommended!

Love it!. Great service and great food!!! I wish more people had a good experience here. They need to advertise themselves on google, and get their name out there! Keep up the great work!

Hopefully just a bad night?. I really want to like this place as the service was ridiculously friendly and prompt, but after a take out order the other night... I can't seem to overcome the lack of flavor in my order.

I came in last week for a lunch with a friend, we had spring rolls (excellent) and two stirfrys. Both were supposed to have a distinct sauce but tasted exactly the same. The Vietnamese coffees were very authentic, but I couldn't handle how sweet mine was and ended up giving it to my lunch partner.

A few nights later I ordered for take out and when I got home discovered that my ginger beef had zero ginger in it. I have no idea what sauce it was, but it almost tasted like bottled BBQ sauce? To top things off, my "Butter Fried Chicken Wings" were also in this sauce and at a whopping $9, I received 7 tiny, broken and sad wing pieces. The Wonton soup was nothing exciting, the filling in the wontons tasted like chicken and scallion. The spring rolls were fantastic... I should have just ordered 5 orders of them to justify my $38 order.

All in all, I would absolutely return for just the spring rolls but nothing else on the menu.

BEST COLD ROLLS in town by far.
The peanut sauce is amazing.
Spring rolls are excellent too!!
My new favorite Vietnamese place in stoon
Nicole
So bad. The service is great but the food is awful :( I had a vermicelli noodle dish with chicken. Couldn't even eat it.. The veggies were soggy and the chicken was gross. My boyfriend got fried rice and it was the worst we've had at a restaurant before.
Jessica Degelder
I LOVE this place, the food is always delicious, pho is by far the best in town, Lee and his staff are always friendly and fast. If you haven't tried it yet, you should!!
SW
Not Great. Tried it for the first time. The spring rolls were pretty good but not heated thoroughly enough for my liking. the Won Ton soup lacked flavour and again, wasn't the correct temperature. The mushroom and chicken fried rice was clumpy and lacked seasoning. The ginger beef could’ve been ginger noodles as the beef was so thin it was hard to distinguish. Also, the flavour wasn't great. On the positive side, the service is very friendly. Unfortunately, the tables were left uncleared throughout the restaurant.
Brad
Pho is legit, he cooks it overnight. Sauces are perfect. Penut sauce is best in town. Good service

BEST Vietnamese in saskatoon. Me and my family have been eating Vietnamese in saskatoon for 15 years , we have ate at every place in saskatoon, and I have to say this place is by far the best place to eat in town, it is very clean , the owner lee is the nicest man I have ever met, they have great spring rolls , soft rolls, the pad Thai is soooooooooo good.and to top it all off he bakes his own cakes and deserts that are to die for. If you want the best food and the best service in town this is the place. :)))

Vietnamese Spring Rolls. These spring rolls are the best in the city. They are much larger than most places and reasonably priced. I am going to try other meals next time I go there.

At 36% approval better hurry if you want to try this place before it closes!. Like others I've been waiting for this place to open.
Like others I won't be in a hurry to come back. Yeah I had read the reviews but thought I would give them a chance.
I asked the owner...? (he took my $) which soup to try: Curry or Tom Yum. He suggested the Tom Yum. The broth wasn't very complex, just spicy. It was a good size but there wasn't a lot of veg, meat or noodles. I've had worse but I've certainly had better.
The kicker was when I was charged $10.25 for a $7.95 bowl of soup......I caught it, he apologised, but still makes you wonder.....
With so many Asian restaurants in Saskatoon to chose from I can't recommend Vietnamese Roll.

Worth another try. Finally open. Tried a few dishes tonight Aug 14/2014 @ approx 630 PM.
As I was entering a young couple was leaving with take out. I asked if they has eaten here before. they stated yes and the food was excellent.
After reading some of the reviews I was concerned.
The restaurant appeared very clean.
I was greeted immediately by a very friendly man, appeared to may have been the owner.
I ordered for rake out; pad Thai noodles with chicken n pork opposed to with shrimp. I had requested mild. ..but WOW...when I got home...it was very spicy hot...but very gd.
-order of rolls were not bad.. honestly have had better across the street.
- order dinner for 1..for my daughter to take to wk.. really isn't much food compared to almost any other vietnamese diners n definitely on the higher $ide.
One review indicated some fighting yelling in the kitchen...Humm was what I have experienced at many Chinese restaurants..just speaking loudly in their native language.
I will try this place again. Although not great. .certainly not bad..

-----15 Aug, 2014-----

Pad Thai. chicken n pork (replaced shrimp with pork). Asked for mild. was extremely "hot
spicy". very flavourful n NOT greasy

-----15 Aug, 2014-----

Dinner for 1. 9.95. Roll. chicken fried rice n beef n veggies. a bit under whelming for the price

-----15 Aug, 2014-----

Order of rolls (4 to an order) 6.95. Has a definite garlic taste. not bad

Great Lunch Specials ... but. The lunch special is great value
The cold rolls are always fresh and tightly rolled ... they are smaller than average but taste great

The soups ... and I have tried them at least 4 times... Are awful. Never enough noodles lacking in so many ways.

I will keep going but I know not to deviate from my usual

-----10 Aug, 2014-----

People with Allergies BEWARE. I need to note that this did not happen to me but to the lady sitting next to me. When ordering the chicken Sate soup, she very specifically said that she has a shellfish allergy and that her soup could not come in contact with shrimp or any other seafood but that fish was ok... her soup came out and it had shrimp in it. She told the waiter that he needed to take it away and again stated that if she eats anything with seafood in it, they will need to call an ambulance. The waiter took the soup and came back about a minute later with the soup... they had obviously just picked the shrimp out and brought it back... she asked the waiter if the remade the soup or just picked out the shrimp ... he said remade they soup. She said that he needed to be 100% sure (her words were - or I could die) and to take it back to the kitchen with him and double check. . . sure enough, he didn't come back for about 5-7 minutes and had a new soup in hand. In this day and age of allergy awareness, this is simply unforgivable and I am thankful that I don't have such a life threatening allergy that the kitchen's blatant disregard for a request as serious as this is mind boggling.

Now, onto my soup - broth was ok but I have never had a noodle soup with so few noodles and so much broth (good thing it tasted ok) I ran out of noodles halfway through eating the soup... this is usually the other way around. Usually a noodle soup for lunch fills me up but I left the restaurant still hungry and $10 poorer. (after tax and tip) If you have eaten the 'just add water' noodle soups from Costco you would have the noodle portion right with twice the broth.

We have been waiting 2 months for this place to open up (I work just down the street) and we are quite let down by our dishes... 4 of us have eaten here a total of 6 times (all separately) and none of us have come back saying they were thrilled with what they ordered. I tried the Vietnamese Rolls - ok... nothing special **Lunch special ($5.95) you get what you pay for** Special Beef Noodle Soup - not enough noodles . The nuoc mam sauce is watery and flavourless for the rolls and the noodle dishes. The water I was served was room temp with no ice - on a 28 degree day, that was a must. I so WANT to like this place but I think I will endure the extra 10 minute drive to Cumberland Square for quality.

Went for the first time tonight. Will never ever go back. First dish (mine, noodle bowl) came out in 5 minutes. Second dish (my husband's, pad thai) came out about15 minutes later. I was done eating by the time he got his. The noodle bowl was so-so. The pad thai was absolutely terrible. We love pad thai and have I absolutely everywhere. This was the worst I've had. It was a plate full of carrots, bland sauce, gross over cooked shrimp, and the noodles made me gag a little. It was way worse than the $2.97 frozen pad thai from the grocery store. And the whole time we waited we listened to people yelling in the kitchen. Save yourself the nightmare and don't go there. Go to Hot Wok across the street by the DQ.

I'd Pass..... Stopped by since it was in a convenient location and I was craving pho. Comes in a big bowl, but there was actually very little noodles/meat in the meal. Let me put it this way, I was still very hungry even after I finished the pho and lately It doesnt take much to fill my stomach up. Wasn't much flavor the the dish. The service wasn't there, seemed a little too pushy. I literally opened up the menu and he asked If I was ready. The cup of water he gave me was luke warm, I noticed later when I went to pay that they pre pour many glasses prior to service. I don't mind that fact, especially if theyre busy I can understand but there was no ice in it/it was warm. If you're going to prepour water, make sure it stays cold. And the cup they gave me was shedding the blue coloring off. Evidently the colored cups they use are cheap/are not industrial dish washer friendly. Also they never filled my water up either :( I'd pass this restaurant if you are in the area.. many other restaurants near by to try.

A terrible meal. Food was just awful. I could not even swallow the fried rice which was just mushy and tasteless. The entire meal was bad. Will never order from here again. It was a complete waste of money and out of the five of us we all agreed it was the worst takeout ever.
Amanda
The worst food EVER! Food was totally bland and mushy, sauces were watery. The crispy ginger beef was neither crispy nor gingery nor beefy. Fried rice was not fried but steamed and without flavor, if it was Chinese food day at the hospital I think it would be better. Will not be ordering from here ever again and will be surprised if it is still open in six months.
