I think this might have been one of the first places I went to when I moved to Saskatoon 15 years ago. I probably go about once a year when someone comes to visit. I miss their milkshake, I think it was chai? It was to die for. I’ve been there for the brunch buffet and it was the best one, in my opinion, in Saskatoon. I’ve enjoyed the warm lentil salad a few times, and I just really like that it’s a prairie based business and that there’s a bookstore to browse before/after you eat. It’s a really great place to go when you are meeting out-of-towners.
very good food but slow service and long wait for your food very expensive. But a nice place very busy and to loud Thu say live music plays but i think the space it to small for that
Going book shopping and getting cake is one of my absolute favourite things to do in Saskatoon and has been for years. The cakes are always amazing (And I really mean always because I have gotten cake here every other week for at least the past 10 years). The food is usually good, but not amazing. I honestly just come for the cake!
The vegan chocolate cake is amazing! Really good soups as well. Service was friendly and prompt and she was very attentive to my dietary restrictions.
Food was a bit dry but the jam for the toast was a tasty blend. Very nice ambiance though. Would come back to this place to try again as I saw some interesting lattes
Pros: Went for lunch. Had the most amazing carrot ginger coconut soup. Will definitely be back. The waitress was very nice. Unfortunately, the she politely refused to give us the recipe for the soup (lol).
Cons: Not the most comfortable tables and chairs to eat at, but I do enjoy that the kitchen is open to the restaurant. My only suggestion to management is to clean the fixtures hanging from the ceiling. I realize they are high up, but could use regular maintenance.
The desserts looked phenomenal. Will be back soon.
I've only been here for coffees and dessert. I have always really enjoyed it. Would like to come back for lunch or supper. Service is always really good.
I had the northern pike cakes, which were excellent, full of flavour. My partner had the chicken club, which he seemed pleased with. The Caesar side salads were good and plentiful. I did not have room for dessert but would consider coming back for that, but overall the atmosphere is not my fave (loud, crowded, too open) dropping the rating down to a 3.5.
Service is pretty slow but it's understandable because their kitchen is so tiny! Delicious food though and friendly staff. The wait times can be long but that's ok because perusing McNally Robinson can occupy your time before your table is ready!
Yummm great desert awesome soup sandwiches are fresh this place is great love grabbing lunch here. I like afternoons here little quieter sane fantastic quality. Great i return as often as i can
I'm not a fan of their entrees but I love the desserts and coffee. Quiet if you go at the right time. Simple and a nice place to go to and check out some new books.
Shmoo cake is so good! I'm not a big fan of cake but this one is one of the only ones I will eat! Their beet wrap is also good and they change the cheese from goat to feta for me too!
The desserts always amazing. My server was quite attentive; but not annoyingly so. The only issue is that the cream of mushroom was a bit salty for my dad's taste. Everything else was enjoyable.
I only ever come here for desserts, and have not tried their other menus - rating may change later if I try more. My rating is based more around comparing Prairie Ink to other places in the city with similar products, and honestly they fall short in terms of quality. They earn points back for favourable hours and being in McNally - which I love.
I come to Prairie Ink to have desserts, I have never had their food. Their desserts are okay. Most of the cakes are way too sweet and dry for my taste. The only desserts that aren't dry are the cheesecakes and the warmed up cinnamon bun. Even then they can be a bit dry! Bottom line: choose your desserts carefully, if it could be dry and too sweet, it probably will be. And as hard as I'm being on the desserts, some of them have been really tasty.
Great Jazz & dessert!. Carrot cake was sweet & delicious. Triple chocolate , the cake was not too sweet and was perfect surrounded by smooth not too sweet ganache.
Decent dining experience.. I took my girlfriend out for dinner, and she had the Chicken club and Turkey rice soup and she said it was alright. I myself had the burger which tasted great but the portion size was ridiculous for 16$, I mean literally a McDonald's burger is bigger... But we also shared the fig pizza, which was to die for, and the dessert brownie was good along with the peanut butter tart. I would definitely go back.
Absolute best chocolate cake in the city. Icing has amazing flavor and isn't too sweet.
Very clean, professional and deliciously fresh food!. I love this place! I often choose to meet my clients here for meetings because of the professional and clean atmosphere and great service. The food is something else entirely. Their menu is diverse enough that every palette has something they can enjoy and each day one of their daily soups is always gluten free. They use fresh and local ingredients and it shows in the fresh and wonderful taste of their dishes. My personal favorite: Their stuffed tomatoes and their London Fogs! BAM! :-)
Great Restaurant. Love the food and the atmosphere of this place. Had the samosas and the pizzas are really good here too. Definitely recommend this place.
Cozy Breakfast Spot. I've been to Prairie Ink many times and keep going back!
Food:: This last week I went for breakfast for the first time. I was wanting a simple traditional breakfast and one of their always soothing London fogs. The breakfast itself was tasty. The scrambled eggs were perfect, light and fluffy; I could have done without the dry focaccia bread toast. My company ordered eggs benedict and raved about it. It looked delectable and I will definitely be back to give it a try!
Service:: The service here over the years has become less than wonderful, but still usually pleasant non-the-less.
I just had breakfast -a side of hash browns and a raspberry scone. Wow.. I didn't know a restaurant could produce 2 items on such an opposite spectrum of deliciousness!
The hash browns were wet, slimy, greasy, not seasoned and not quite cooked. I like a crispy hash brown, and these tasted like a potatoe was chopped up, thrown into too much oil and microwaved. Yuck.
The raspberry scone on the other hand, was absolutely divine. Soft, flavourful, crunchy on the outside and made with real fruit. I will be back for those....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Done looking at books? Stop in for a treat.. Good little place with many interesting menu items. The soup is always great, and I've rarely been disappointed. Cakes are great, the Reeces cake is my favourite. Obviously it can get quite busy and crowded, considering how small the place is - worth it, I say.
Best soup, salad in the city. The soups made from scratch are delicious. I always enjoy the salads with fresh vegetables. The sandwiches used to be my favorite in the city. They made the sandwiches with nice deli meat and fresh bread- I don't see them on the menu now :( The bakery is quite nice too.
Best Pizza in Saskatoon. Had the fig and prosciutto pizza... hands down the best pizza I have had in the city. Had feta over the top and was a real flavor elevator. Base was a thin crust, honey dough.
The cakes also look amazing (but did not try)
Parking Lot Gem. Although the windows only offer a view of a parking lot, the staff offer a pleasant counterpoint with their personable service. The menu has a variety of quality options for breakfast, lunch and supper along with some unique healthy juice choices that aren't found anywhere else. It can be a little crowded at times but where else can you spend your time waiting for a table by wandering around a great bookstore.
Cozy place. Great drinks, great desserts, great menu items - but stay away from the Sunday brunch buffet. I wanted waffles at 1:30 (the buffet closes at 2) and there were none left at the table. I asked our server if the chef could put out more waffles. He agreed and was unable to successfully make waffles three times in a row. We told our server to stop asking to try and that we'd survive without the waffles. They gave us a 25% discount (we didn't even complain) but also told us we shouldn't expect everything coming so close to the end of the buffet which I thought was rude. That was the only negative experience I have had, though. I've always been satisfied with their sandwiches and soups and their desserts are TO DIE for. And you honestly can't beat the smell walking in there. Try it out for a weekday lunch!
We just had a fantastic meal as always. Great service, great food!
Always good. Consistently good food whether its a light lunch, just desserts and a beverage or dinner. We go there often and will continue to do so. Great value for what you get. Be prepared by making a reservation to avoid a wait if its a busy day or evening. One of my favourite places, which is an extra treat when paired with browsing and shopping in their book/gift store.
The prices here are pretty reasonable and the food was good overall for most of my party. I had the duck with Lentil stew, which was disappointing. The stew was incredibly salty, almost inedible so and the duck was a little bland. That being said, I'll be back.
Yes!. I've never had a bad experience here! A very dependable, unique and tasty choice!
Best Steak Sandwich in Town. First time here. I was incredibly surprised when the steak sandwich I ordered showed up. I have never had such a thick, quality steak offered as a steak sandwich. Every place I have been to (Calories: Steak and frites, the Granary: steak sandwich, etc.) has a really thin piece of meat, which I never complained about because of the price. But now, my standards have been set high. Absolutely amazing.
Looove Loove Loove 'em desserts! Very delicious the bread pudding was perfect not too sweet nor too heavy..staff was very attentive and for those used to be coffee junkie?!! Yes they do decaf espresso...
Lovely Food (especially shrimp!). Prairie Ink always has delicious salads and entrees. My favorite is the light fare shrimp with soup. Fantastic!
Amazing desserts! And for the gluten avoiders the flourless chocolate torte is to die for.
Sunday Brunch. Something a bit different for a change. There are, of course, the usual demi-vats of undercooked bacon and latex eggs. But made-to-order omelettes, fresh pasta and a good selection of fruit and pastry makes it worthwhile. Definitely worth a return visit!
Have been here a few times for lunch. Always a line up. Food has been very good each visit.
Phenomenally good. We had supper tonight here, and it was probably our best run at this restaurant yet. They've never disappointed before, but the food was outrageously good, the server was one of the best I've ever had (and I didn't catch her name! But she had a cute red bob, a terrific attitude, and perfect timing), and their desserts are ridiculously good. If they have their Chocolate Almond Banana Cake when you're there - HAVE SOME. Definitely in the top 3 best restaurant desserts I've ever had (it helps that I adore chocolate, almonds, and banana bread).
The food is amazing and reasonably priced. Then there's the added entertainment of shopping for books after! I just wish their tables were a little bit larger!
Comfy favourite. One of my favourite places to frequent. Everything I've tried has been consistently above average, but standouts include some of the daily soups (mushroom, white chocolate/parsnip), the blue cheese/pear salad (split with 2 people - generous with the cheese!), the veggie burger. Used to love the crab cakes, last time I had them they changed the recipe, and now they're OUT OF THIS WORLD! well, out of this province, anyway :) .Loaded with fresh crab, perfect amount of mango salsa/aioli sauce. Never go back to the old recipe, please!.
Last time I was there, and the service was uncharacteristically slow, we had just griped about it a little privately, when the server showed up with free cookies to make up for it. Sweet!
Like nearly every dessert place, the desserts are too big. Love 'em, but never order unless someone will share. Wish they would offer half sizes. Picture this, restaurant owners: Offer large dessert for 6$. Offer half size (literally) for $3.50. Couple either orders one dessert to share - $6 - or 2 desserts - $7.
Great food, bad service. Service was horrible, food was good.
Consistently good. Small menu but there are a few really good standards on it and always some decent specials or seasonal items. Seems like ingredients are fresh and menu items are made from scratch.
Some waiting is good. Your meal is being freshly prepared, not just pulled out of the freezer and nuked.
Mmmmmm Coffee. Food is great, coffee drinks are awesome, and serves is SO SLOW! If you want a nice relaxing chat with a friend or a place to read a book and have a great meal, it's for you. See my fully review at: http://saskatoonsbestrestaurants.blogspot.com/
Great food, but long wait!. I used to go all the time because the food is always good and very original. Love the soups! However, now that I have 2 kdis I just don't bother. The kid food is good, but everything takes so long that you can't go there with hungry kids. And of course, if I'm hungry I don't like the wait either. If you are only somewhat hungry than go for it.

+4.5
Great little spot. Im a big fan of this restaurant. I used to work here while i was in University. On weekends they have live performers. The food is good too! By far the best schmoo torte in the city!
A good "Go-To" Restaurant.. Prairie Ink is a rock in my dining experience. When no one can think of a place we all head to Prairie Ink. Which I like because most days I would rather be eating there than at a chain like Boston Pizza.
The food since I have started going there has changed quite a bit. As has price. Since they no longer deal with local producers, which is a move in the wrong direction in my opinion I have noticed a sharp increase in price. Also the quality of the produce and meat has gone slightly downhill. Just not as fresh as it once was. Still, the waitstaff are nice and pleasant and it is a great place to relax and chat with some friends.
I have notice some complains on slow service on here. Personally that is one of the things I love about Prairie Ink. I treat it as a dining experience as oppose to just "going out for dinner." I like that they don't rush, and in turn you are not feeling rush. It is the place I take relatives and friends I haven't seen in a long time because I know we will have the time to catch up. But I don't think waiting 40-60 minutes for food is a long time either.
Friday nights with the music can be hit or miss, but again you get the chance to enjoy it and not feeling like you have to keep moving. Good coffee, tea and mixed drinks. The desserts are to die for! Very rich and they give you good portions.
As for my favourite things, the pear and blue cheese salad is amazing as is the majority of their soups. Just nice and light, but still satisfying. And also it allows you to save room for their tasty desserts.
Prairie Ink, while I think could do well with returning to its local roots is still a solid restaurant. A good place to take out of town people for lunch because you know you will get good service and good food.
Some Guy. Eaten here several times, and it is usually average to somewhat better than average quality for the meal. Very good desserts and assorted beverages. Overall, I like.
Great Place for a light lunch!. Their service is decent. Waiters/waitresses come back often to check on how you are doing. Portions are a great size. They serve the best London Fog in town! Don't go right at noon on a weekend, or you will expect to wait at least 30 mins before being seated. Quarters are close in the restaurant and it could probably use a bit of extra space. Overall, it's a great place to go for a light lunch with friends.
The atmosphere, dessert, salad, soup, and drinks have always been amazing but as a vegetarian I find the main dish bland and unimpressive. Next time I will just stick with the salad soup and bread combo.
Like it but Expensive. The food there is great -- especially their Margherita pizza, but the asking price is a bit reaching it. I would say that this is a great place to go on business or with friends on occasion, but I would seek other places first.
Great experience. I went here for the first time last night and was not disappointed. First of all, the place is open, inviting and the service is friendly but not in that annoying way, you know? My cousin and I shared a delicious, rich and cheesy spinach+artichoke dip for an appetizer. Our only complaint was there were not enough pita wedges to get through it all. I moved on to the roasted veggie wrap, which featured a good quantity of zucchini, peppers, goat cheese and a lovely, tangy tomato sauce. The pear and blue cheese salad was ample, and the dressing refreshingly sweet. I left very pleased, and although I did not have a dessert, they have quite an awesome looking selection.
Expecting a little more. For the most part we enjoyed our meals however I had ordered the pizza and was quite dissapointed with the dough they use. It looks and tastes like a SuperStore bought premade shell and really takes away from the flavor of the pizza. I would much prefer a hand made thinner version perhaps wholewheat. Little things like that take the meal from being great to so so.
Great haven from the book crowds. Prairie Ink has good food at a reasonable price. I've never had one of their pricier entrees, but the pear and blue cheese salad is a favourite. The harvest tordelli is extremely rich and about twice as big as it needs to be, but very good. I just end up leaving half of it uneaten. I've never been overly impressed with their soups - the ones I've tried are perfectly edible, but a bit on the watery side. The servers are friendly and they frequently check back to see if further assistance is required.
The menu created some problems for us. It was larger than expected and gave us plenty of options. The salads, sandwiches, wrap/pitas, pizzas, burgers and desserts caught my attention. The menu changed from the last time we ate there, so I am unsure of the names. But when it was time to order, my girlfriend ordered a salad with Thai coconut dressing and shrimp and I went with the burger and a side of "Cheesy Logger" soup. As usual, it was fresh and delicious. The salad was delicious. I did not know what to expect because I have never had a Thai coconut dressing before. The salad was sweet because of the dressing but spicy from the red onions, they complimented each other well. The burger on the other hand was your average burger, nothing special but I did enjoy it too. We finished it all off with a health muffin. It was gigantic and one of the best muffins I have had in a long time, it had that homemade feel to it.
The menu is on the smaller side, though good ($11-$20 per Main). We had the Stuffed Zucchini to start. Zucchini is disgusting if undercooked, and just as repulsive if limp, flaccid and overcooked. Ours was spot on.
Very nice cafeteria located inside the bookstore. They have a nice selection of decent size entrees and desserts. Last time I discovered their milkshakes and would 100% recommend ordering one as they are delicious and not expensive. So far our servers have always been very polite and patient while taking our order.
My all time escape place! A great restaurant with cozy environment and very friendly service providers! The foods are delicious and it’s actually e very nice place to hangout or spend some quality me-time! I had the coffee, breakfast items and soups. All of them are mouthwatering and the serving is quite good. I do recommend everyone to visit this place.
Amazing service and the food here is always top notch! Their teriyaki rice bowl is my all time favorite. Their carrot cake is heavenly, you will not be disappointed!
The best steak and shrimp for $25 you can buy. It was under seasoned but cooked perfectly and for the price you cannot beat it. I would have given it a 5 star but the chef left the rubber band on my broccoli (got a $5 discount) and the service was SUPER slow. Out of 7 employees there appeared to be only one server for the full restaurant. Aug 27 @1700
Enjoyed the early morning atmosphere and two fresh baked cookies as a pre-shopping snack. The host and waitress were very kind and attentive as well as the bakery staff. Restaurant area was clean and well arranged. We've also come in numerous times before for lunches and dinners and the food is always fresh and delicious.
This restaurant is top notch. I love the intimate atmosphere and the quality menu. I haven't had a thing on this menu that wasn't presented well or tastes great. The staff are friendly and the desserts are fabulous. I'm always tempted to get a latte and a lemonade as they are both great and Always leave room for dessert, even if it's just to take home. You won't regret it.
The Arugula Salad is incredible. The wait staff are very friendly. The menu has something for everyone. And what could be better than a restaurant right inside a bookstore??
Awesome atmosphere and delicious deserts.
We had Schmoo Torte and Flourless Chocolate Torte. I think the best desert I had in weeks or months!
