Review Konga Cafe - Saskatoon

Darren Bird
Had a fantastic meal here with my family. Sweet heat ribs, jerk chicken and oxtail stew. Everything was great! Good value and great food. Excellent. Definitely will be back when we come to Saskatoon
Michelle J
The jerk chicken was amazing, very moist and flavourful!!!!!! I heard about the restaurant from different people and they did not disappoint! All the staff were friendly, the chef/owner was personable and delivered our food to our table. I always appreciate when the decoration reflects the culture and I definitely got the full Jamaican food experience here. I highly recommend to anyone!!!

This place has friendly service and a chill, cozy vibe. The food can be hit and miss, but perhaps I just haven’t eaten there enough to find my go-to dishes yet. On our most recent visit I had the jerk mahi mahi, which was great. It had a really nice smoky flavour to it.
Kyle Nadiger
Honestly best spot in Saskatoon. The food is absolutely delicious. Best jerk chicken we have ever had. Potatoes are unmatched. The spicy peanut butter shrimp is the best shrimp dish I have ever had.
Kayla Irvine
Best restaurant in town hands down. Staff is so friendly, food is homemade and delicious. Best key lime pie! Could not recommend this place enough definitely a must try!

Small family type restaurant, good taste and large portion of the dish. Very friendly services

if you like heat, you NEED to try the Sweetfire Chicken! Best grilled chicken I've eaten, anywhere. the rice and peas are always perfect, as are the veggies. Great prices, portions and service. if you're looking for a meal that tastes like it was made by somebodys mama, Konga Cafe will not disappoint.
Jimin Leo
The best food and service! Their BBQ ribs was absolutely our favorite dish and the price is only $25 for huge portions.
Erin Keen
The best food I've had in Saskatoon, it was fast, delicious and savory. I highly recommend the Jamaican Jerk Chicken to anyone who likes a mildly spicy dish that doesn't overpower the other flavors of the dish. The chicken was tender the potatoes were deliciously sauced and the vegetables were marinated and grilled as opposed to the usual steamed until mush that other restaurants go by. Absolutely loved my visit and I will definitely go there again. :D
Cory Bliss
My jerked pork chops were among the best meals I have ever had. I highly recommend this place!
Sue Hemingway
Our favourite place to eat in Saskatoon. Have tried multiple menu items and have never been disappointed! Kids love it, too! Atmosphere nice and casual with wonderful, friendly service.

Stopped in on a whim, I've never really tried Jamaican food and it was awesome!! Had the Shrimp Curry with a mix of the rice and potatoes. Everything on my plate was delicious, I'll definitely be back. Service was excellent. Great job folks!
Sherri Lynn Cooper
Great food! Super friendly and upbeat staff! The burger was fantastic and loved the atmosphere

Amazing food. Have it super spicy or ask them to make it super mild. Not a huge menue but everything on it is great. Ps The potatoes are epic haha

Was my favorite restaurant 4 years ago. Left Saskatoon and was back tonight. Still as awesome as it was then. Delicious food, Good portions and genuine service. My favorite place still!

I can't believe it took us so many years to find out about this place! Now that we know the way I'm sure it will be one of our go-to restaurants in Saskatoon. The atmosphere is very laidback, warm, and the guy serving us (Eddie?) was great fun!
The spicy peanut shrimp does sound like a weird mix, but it's delicious. Jerky chicken was amazing, and the roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables were perfectly cooked and very tasty.
I had the dark and stormy drink and was very pleased.
Please order the key lime pie - it is so very good, I think they should sell it in truckloads.
All in all, a fantastic find!
Stopped in for lunch cool Jamaican vibe. Soup of the day was delicious. Ordered wraps. They were fresh and so much flavour. Can’t wait to go back and try the Jerk chicken!
Nancy Moonie
Love this place! Amazing food! Fun servers! Quirky, colourful Island ambiance. It's the only place where I actually enjoy the veggies on my plate! Peanut shrimp.is to die for!
Mikoto Misaka
Went there recently. Had the Sweetfire Chicken. It as well as the potato and veggie roast were delicious. I also tried some of my friends Jerk chicken and it was great. Service was a touch lacking but it had a nice feel like I was at someone's house and their family was cooking dinner. I will be back for sure!
Sean Brown
My favourite little spot in Saskatoon! Been many times! they offer delicious authentic Jamaican cuisine! excellent staff it's home away from home would recommend it to anyone who loves delicious food!
Vicky Kolybaba
Was not impressed at all. We walked in not knowing if we seat ourselves or wait for someone to greet us. Finally a lady came out and told us to grab a table and gave us menus, didn't ask us if we wanted anything other than water to drink, so that's what we got.
The food was below sub par, I got the creole shrimp and it was flavourless, expected a lot more. My boyfriend got the jerk pork chops and they weren't spicy at all. We also both got the roasted potatoes as a side and they just tasted like boiled potatoes with tomatoes crushed on them.
Overall terrible service for the most part and the food had no flavour really disappointing
NewAge5
All I have to say is don't underestimate this place. Great Caribbean menu and don't judge this book by its cover. Prices are good and the food was packed with flavour. I would recommend Konga if you are looking to experience a homemade taste of Caribbean above the 49th parallel.

I've heard lots of good things about this place so I was excited to try this place out. The wraps were good but the flavouring was not as spicy as I was expecting. The spicy peanut dish was good but again it was not as spicy as anticipated. My companions and I enjoyed our meal but overall wanted better flavouring. Service was great.

Every visit has been a great experience! I love the rib special and the johnny cakes. This is one of Saskatoon's hidden gems. Worth a visit for sure!

food is always good. place needs a face lift for sure. I have been there many times and always found it acceptable. Service is always good as well.

This restaurant is probably top 5 worst restaurants I have ever been to, it's depressing that so many people have rated it so highly.

I can't even remember what we ordered but when the dishes came out they tasted exactly the same with absolutely no flavor or spice. The rice was bland and dry and in no way represented authentic Caribbean flavors- perhaps everything is dumbed down for the prairie palate. The quality of the food was also terrible, fricking minute rice? Give me a break.

We didn't even take our leftovers home it was literally too gross. The only thing we really ate were the Johnny cakes, I was glad they could at least fry dough.

I think the owners need to go back home for a visit to be reminded what island flavors are all about. From someone who grows her own chiles for pepper sauce and jerk and whose family is from Guyana. Literally shocking.
Ara
My husband and I went on a Sunday evening and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered the jerk chicken with roast potatoes and he ordered the West Indian chicken curry with rice and peas. Really enjoyed the chicken - both dishes. The jerk chicken was spicy and so flavourful! I enjoyed the rice and peas but not so much the roasted potatoes. I also don't understand why we were served on broken dishes? As you can see from the picture I posted, the plate had chips on all sides and both of our plates were like that. Hence the 3/5 rating.
Laura K. Taylor
Loved the goat curry - very well seasoned. Friendly staff too - and I just did take out. Would definitely recommend - a bit pricy, but you're not going to leave hungry!
Mike Benko
This place was unreal!
Pretty sure I'm willing to call it the best food in the city, amazing atmosphere and friendly staff.

Best, most tender, perfectly done pork chops I've ever had.. They can jerk my chops any day! Also tried the chicken soup, bbq ribs, jerk mahi mahi and jerk chicken ALL of which were off the charts good and had the whole family commending my choice in eatery. Portions were perfect for me, probably even too much for most.

Convinced my family to go there when they were in the city to visit, had been wanting to try this place already 2 years ago but couldn't convince my friend to go.. What a mistake he made lol.

Will definitely be going back and taking any visitors to the city who haven't tried it.
Amazing service! The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing. Love the ribs! Konga Cafe is my all time favorite place for ribs. I have introduced this place to many friends and they love coming back. The johnny cakes are also a very nice touch to start the meal! Love how the chef also greets you when you come in and leave.

Been here twice now, was recommended by lots of people! Small place but good food and good servers! The jerk chicken was really good and very filling! Love the funky atmosphere and friendly staff, would go again!

By far the best restaurant in Saskatoon!! Was skeptical the first time I went there because of its appearance, but was pleasantly surprised! My favourite dish on the menu is the peanut shrimp with rice, and of course the key lime pie for dessert (their menu doesn't lie when they say it's the best on the island!). A little pricey, but huge portion sizes (probably 2 meals worth, but I can eat it all in one sitting haha) so definitely worth the price. I cannot say enough good things about Konga! Been there numerous times and will always keep going back. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and delicious food, if never disappoints!
Dale Essar
Funky little spot with awesome food at a very reasonable price and very satisfying portions. Whatever you do, don't forget the Key Lime pie for dessert!
Jenny Andrew
Place looked like a promising hole in the wall. Wait staff very friendly, place was busy. Food was mediocre. I had Mahi Mahi. Flavours were great but fish was over cooked and dry. Rice and beans were really dry and veggies were cold. The kids chicken fingers tasted good. Nice light batter. Roasted potatoes were really good. Just like at home. Atmosphere is good. Overall it wasn't horrible but won't be on the list for first choices when visiting the city.

Peanut punch was worth every moment here. Pretty much like a peanut butter milkshake, this drink was amazing on a hot day and tasted like nothing I've had before. While I'm not entirely sure what is in here, it is worth whatever calories need to be consumed. As for the rest, it was also very good. I had the Jerky Birdy, with a depth of flavor that was complex and delightful. Not all of the ingredients were fresh, but you work with what you can get in this northern country.I would definitely go back here to eat again...and at least once more to try the pie.
Wendy Cooper
It is located at the bottom of Caswell Hill in Saskatoon and features an amazing assortment of Caribbean food and fare. Being from Guyana, it feels like I have travelled back in time and can eat some of the food that I grew up with. When we go to the restaurant, it doesn’t feel like we are going out to eat in an establishment but rather like we are going over to a friends place to eat their excellent home cooking. From the first time we went, we were made to feel at home at The Konga Cafe. It has a festive laid back atmosphere. Not only are you chatting with your server but chatting with other guests.
Natalie Kirn
Food is great!!! We came in twice with a year inbetween the visites and both times it was so dirty in there. Quite a struggle for us as the food is really worth coming in, disregarding the missing cleanliness isn't really an option
Bluewaves12
Wow! I wanted to try something new and took a couple of my friends from out of town. All of our meals were delicious! I got the Spicy Peanut Shrimp - amazing! Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely return again!
Cpjohnson70
Loved It!. Our family does a theme country once a month. This month we were doing Jamaica. Due to time restraints we decided to go out instead of making our own food. We googled up Jamaican food in Saskatoon and came up with the Konga Cafe. We loved it! Staff was awesome - welcoming and helpful in deciding what to try. The food was great and the price reasonable. Everything about our experience there was awesome! We will definately be recommending it to others and going there again!
Dale
Wow should have went sooner food so flavorful the staff was friendly this would definitely be a DDD joint sooooo good

I was negligent and took way too long to get around to visiting this place. I thought it was wonderful. The serving staff were very knowledgable about the menu, and the food was just awesome. The introduction to banana ketchup was a nice bonus!

Amazing. The hubby and I went last night for the first time. We didn't know if a reservation was needed so we made one anyway. Once there the hostess had said that it is usually recommended to make a reservation although it was actually a slower night. (That meant people weren't lined up at the door all the way outside like usual.) She said that it is an hour to hour and a half wait if you're a walk in.
The service was definitely great! Most places you feel like you might as well help your self to get anything you want but the ladies were all wonderful. They knew when to come around and were very friendly.
We had a good laugh after leaving since we had gone to a Jamaican restaurant and both of us had burgers! But they were great. The patties are definitely homemade and huge!! The sauce and caramelized onions went perfectly. Add a large portion of fries and that's all the food you need. For desert, the fresh key lime pie! Creamy, tangy, and just plain made right!
We will be back!! (maybe we'll even try more traditional dishes)

Always a delight!. Konga cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Saskatoon! The service is always amazing, any mistakes made are always minor and come along with a "this is on the house" without any complaints or questions asked. The long term staff there have worked together for years and run the restaurant flawlessly. The johnny cakes that come as appetizers are absolutely to die for when dipped into the banana hot sauce. I almost exclusively eat the Canajun Pork Chop with rice and beans, accompanied with vegetables. The sauce is so tasty and the flavors mix perfectly, usually I try to be more adventurous with menus, but when you find a meal that tasty it's difficult to stray! Must try the rum punch. The only negatives would be that the restaurant is small, if you come at peak times it is difficult to find a table. The atmosphere is fun and bright.

Food was great, key lime pie was amazing!!!!
Dc_thunder
Really good food. The staff was very friendly. Doesn't like like much from the outside but I was very happy.
Connor Holmes
Wow!. This place is awesome! Really tasty food and a good atmosphere. So much better off going to a place like this than a big chain restaurant. This is real food! Had jerk chicken entree and can't wait to go back!
MissTuxy
Tasty Food with Good Service. Went with a group of 8 ladies for a CFUW "Adventures in Dining" evening - we get together once a month for a different dining experience. We had very good service and people enjoyed their variety of meals and drinks at Konga. Thank you.

Excellent Food and Service. I always forget about Kongo Cafe when deciding where to eat. When I do remember I am always satisfied. I hear people questioning the authenticity of how Jamaican the food really is but regardless it is delicious. Fairly large portions and the service and staff are nice and friendly. I definitely recommend eating here.
Gwen Hart
This is not Jamaican food...went there and had the SAD excuse for jerk chicken, a bland white chicken breast covered with bottled jerk sauce.. I live in Jamaica for a few months every year...and I am still yet to find any real authentic jerk chicken. I spend a few weeks each trip cooking and selling real authentic jerk with my rasta at his roadside stand in Negril...Konga Cafe please use a homemade jerk rub...common have some respect..marinade your chicken with the bone in and use thighs...that is key. Real jerk should be cooked smoked and slowely in a drum bbq with a spicey chared crisp skin and full flavor penetrating throughout the meat. Unfortunately you will not find anything that resembles fresh amazing real Jamacain cuisine here...Saskatoon is missing out
Tiyrahsymone
Disappointed. If you are looking for real authentic Jamaican food, this is most certainly the furthest thing from it. We had the "Jerk Chicken", and it definitely was not Jerk Chicken, and the rice and peas, was literally just white rice and mixed in red beans, not to mention it was dry. Then again, what kind of real "Jamaican" food was I really expecting to find in Saskatoon. Womp womp nice try though

Saskatoon's Best Kept Secret. We go quite often and always have good food. Love the atmosphere and laid back feel of the place. When you want to go somewhere and feel at home, this is the place.
Amuse Bouche
The decor may not be terribly exciting. But I enjoy the casual laid back atmosphere. Kid was reading my reviews and asked why I didn't have a good one on here, so here it is.
We have come here many times. Once for lunch it was ok. But have been here many more times for supper.
The kid absolutely loves the chicken fingers and orders this each time we go. The chicken is cooked to perfection! The inside moist and tender with a nice light breading.
The sweet fire porker is oh so good. Nice sized portion tender and so wonderfully spicy event scalp was sweating. Love it. The rice and beans are very tasty and the veg is always cooked well.
The ribs, insanely large portion so tender almost falling off the bone. They taste so good that even when your full you feel the need to keep eating.
The potatoes are also good.
Spouse has had jerk chicken and said it is good. Tender and nicely spicy.
Sweet fire chicken spouse has ordered and it too super moist and insanely but wonderfully spicy. We love the heat..
The owner is a great man alway so friendly and treats kids extremely well. Before each meal you start off with Johnny cakes love having them with hot sauce. Large selection of sauces.
1adam12
Yeah mon!. I love this place, a true hidden gem. The Johnny cakes with the banana sauce are my favorites. Had the jerk chicken with rice and veggies and they were awsome. I went back for lunch once and was a little dissapointed with the lunch menu. I prefer more traditional food rather than the jerk burger with fries.
Anyways, I'll return for supper for sure.

8.75 Definitive Decadence Points. If you want good and proper Jamaican the Konga Café is the place to go. Not to mention the only place to go. But still it’ll jerk your taste buds in a good way. You’ll always get a complimentary fry bread to go with your often spicy entre. Even if you don’t like getting your jerk on, you can jerk off with other options ranging from fish to poultry. The homemade soup is some of the best in the city and the price is a steal. The staff are friendly and the head chef always deserves a compliment on the way out. It feels like eating at home. If you come from a Jamaican home that is. So everybody jump in line for the Konga... Café.
Veronica Bendig
WOW - Yummy. Incredible flavour in everything we ate. My 16 year old loved the curry goat and my 10 year old thought the soup was the best he has ever eaten. Overall family of 5 really all very happy with the service, ambiance and extremely well cooked and favourable meals. We all left quite full and happy. Will definitely be back many times over.
Ylabas
Amazing. Great food!! The goat is yum yum!
Nikki Pavelich
One of my fave places to eat! We wanted to have our wedding reception there, but it wasn't quite big enough. My fave plate is a toss up between the mahi mahi and the sweet fire porker!
Irene
Excellent food, unique atmosphere. Went for dinner with friends on a Saturday evening - thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The waitress at our table seemed like a rookie, friendly and helpful but not particularly organized.

The johnny cakes were fantastic, and each of the entrees that came to our table were tasty and nicely prepared. Several of us took home a good sized portion of leftovers. If you go, save room for the Key Lime Pie - even if it means taking home half of your entree.
ToughCritic
Amazing!! I are here for the.... Amazing!! I ate here for the first time tonight. I loved everything about it. Good service, amazing food and great prices. Very high quality delicious food. I definitely recommend this place. It was only $34 for two of us. We had the Konga burger (huge!) and fries, along with a rack of ribs, potatoes and grilled veggies. This is one of my new favorite places! Wish I had been sooner.
Jerred
Best african. Went for mothers staff party, expected pourrige like on the ads,~boy was i ever suprised, curied donkey was just incredible, very very S.P.I.C.Y and grilled to perfection. Didnt have to pay for the meal but I sure did pay for the flavor this morning XD!! jonny carsens *ring of fire* anyone! TMI :p but i will definately be going back to the congo kafe!!
Food Trotter
Mmm... Mmm... Good!. Love the curry mutton and can't get enough of those Johnny cakes!!!
Darrin
Mahi Mahi and key lime pie were terrific! Definitely would go back.
Yoda
Wonderful, delicious food with great service and accommodating to couples and families alike. One of my favourite restaurants in the city.
Sebastian
I ordered the specials and they were awesome. I am definitely coming back. Curried goat and grilled mahi mahi.
Gerbo
This place was recommended by our bar tender at a local hotel. Wow were we happy we stopped by. Mahi Mahi was just fantastic. Chelsea is awesome.
Sarah Melissa
Can't believe I waited so long to try it! Great food, great drinks (freshly blended and mixed mmmm) great service!
Morganmg
Had the jerky birdy burger. Very good, but could use a little more spicy heat. A little slow for lunch, but overall really good.
Jeff
Awesome place!. Have eaten here several times. Food is great and good value. My favorite is the jerk chicken with rice and beans.. Not your typical authentic jerk chicken (its chicken breast), but very good nonetheless. Have also enjoyed other meals like the curried goat. Tons of interesting hot sauces to try as well.
Service is also very friendly, and the owner is a real character.

Have introduced several others to this place and everyone has been very impressed.
Justin Van Oeveren
A great little place with wonderful service. The prices are reasonable and the quality is good. We even got to try the last if the goat curry on the house.
Becky9
Went for the first time tonight and left asking myself why I hadn't come sooner. It took like 10 minutes to get seated but they were busy and the server acknowledged that we were there. I spent some time looking at all the pictures and knick knacks while we waited. We both had rum punch which reminded us of being on the beach in ocho rios so it was some good nostalgia. My fiance ordered pork chops but they were busy earlier so ran out, so instead he asked for mild jerk chicken which was flavourful and well cooked. Potatoes were super tasty, not sure what she puts on em but they were great. I had the spicy peanut shrimp and oh my god, thus could be my new favorite thing ever. Perfect size portion, tons of sauce, sooooooooo good. The owner walked around and asked how we were doin, I told the chef after how great the food was. If you haven't been yet, go! Holes in the wall are the best. Well done konga!
Cheryl
Really enjoyed our meal there tonight. Thought the prices seemed a bit high (19.99 for goat curry) but the portion was big enough for my husband to bring home leftovers (which never happens.) The curry was hot and delicious and savory. Loved the complimentary Johnny cakes off the top (fried bread) I had the jerk chicken burger, also a healthy portion. The Caesar salad was soo tasty. I asked, and yes they do make their dressing in house. You can tell. Nothing to suggest to this place. Maybe one or two more items priced under 10$. We will return.
Magscharron
Best Restaurant in Saskatoon. This place is fantastic. The decor could use some work and the women's washroom is terrible, but the food and service are outstanding! I've been several times and have ordered the jerk pork with potatoes every time because they are so good I can't bring myself to order anything else! My spouse has been working his way through the menu and the only thing he hasn't liked is the goat curry special, but that's probably more to do with the goat than the way it was prepared, it's not something we eat regularly.

The "Jerk Your Chops" is a large portion, two chops plus the most delicious potatoes and some veg. I usually have leftovers because it is just too much for me, but it tastes great for lunch the next day too!
Sasha
I'm a long time fan of Konga, but lately every time I've gone in for lunch it's been a gong show! The lunch server is not very attentive, but how can she be when she's busy settling her kids. Lunch is not the professional atmosphere supper is. The food is so delicious, but I think I'll just stick to eating there for supper to avoid the daycare. Leave the kids at home!
Good Food
Good servers, Great cook!. A small, off the beaten path restaurant with a good selection of Jamaican meals! For quite some time, I only ordered either the jerk chicken or the jerk chops ... both are home runs in my book! I wasn't adventurous enough to try any other items for quite a few visits. Big mistake on my part. I still haven't tried the curried goat, but that's next on my list.
My favorite for taste is the mahi mahi. The portion is not huge, but the taste of this fish is outstanding! For the big appetite, I highly recommend the jerk chops or BBQ chops. Rice and beans usually completes my side dish over the potatoes, but both are great. Just remember that rice cools off far more rapidly than potatoes, so if you don't like warm or cool rice, you'd best eat it first.
The servers are very friendly and helpful with selections if you're not too sure what to order, or what beverage (Ting soda? Red Cap Ale?) that you may find interesting .....

Their key lime pie is made fresh, and is to die for. If you are too full for dessert, I recommend that you take a piece home for later! So good!
They are a touch pricey for some folks but when you weigh in the ingredients used, the source of many food items, and the care put into your food, its a gem of a place to try!
Bring the kids for something completely different from the McCrappy fast food that they normally don't finish. There's plenty of items for them to enjoy, and the staff likes kids!
Give 'em a try!
Bob Marley would give them a thumbs up!
Mellissa Poulsen
I love Konga cafe. Konga is one of my favourite restaurants. Me and my husband go there a lot and we have never been disappointed with anything we've ordered! quite often we end up sharing since both meals are sooo good! I am addicted to the Johnny cakes and the peanut butter shrimp is to die for. Staff is always friendly and although the restaurant is a bit dumpy the food is well worth it!
Sallylimba
That peanut butter pie made me smh like crazy! The music is to the ears as the jerk chicken is to the mouth: scrumdidaliumptious. The Johnny cakes were an excellent appetizer, and the condiments were to die for. Bob marley would approve, as do I!
Dorothy Tsiaplas
Won't be returning. I was disappointed after being told they have a good vegetarian selection over the phone while reserving for a group of 20.. the few of us being vegetarian, they only had 1 option.. and it wasn't even on the menu?????
The dish was a disappointment, bland rice with bland veggies on top, and way overpriced.. the drinks were ok.. nice and strong so I guess they were worth the price. The atmosphere was fun, staff was nice
KateW
I'll start by sayin' I ain't afraid of no spice. Dining at a Caribbean restaurant should mean flavour and spice. The Johnny Cakes start was okay. But better doused in condiments. On the server's recommendation we tried the signature dish, curried goat. The goat was nicely braised but lacked flavour. We also shared the spicy peanut shrimp- which was little spice but instead a lot of creamy peanut butter. Far too sweet. The service was fast (to the point of rushing us out), but friendly. They could definitely use an appy menu. This is a giant check mark for us... Won't be back (unless I can't find the spicy condiments they offered anywhere else- they saved each dish).
Bailey Marie Newman
This is definitely my favourite restaurant! My boyfriend and I come there all the time! The jerk mahi mahi is so amazing! I recommend this place to everyone!
A Customer
Mediocre. Not as good as the current rating would suggest. Also overpriced. Two dishes (out of four) had rice instead of potatoes and beans instead of peas.
Culinary Slut
Heard about this place from a friend. It's a super casual/great vibe resto in a way off the beaten path location. But trust us - it's well worth seeking out.

Went at lunch but asked to order off the dinner menu - no problem there. Ordered Jerk Chicken with delicious dry spiced fries. The jerk sauce was, as promised, unique -- and delicious, especially when we added some Barbados Hot Sauce. The chicken was cooked to a tender and juicy perfection (not always easy with a boneless breast).

Second plate was Peanut Spicy Shrimp with rice and "peas" (beans, really). The peanut sauce was flavourful with a mild kick. The shrimp was, like the chicken, cooked to perfection. Hot and juicy, firm an sweet, with no hint of being overcooked and rubbery (the kiss of death for shrimp).

Wonderful meal; friendly, attentive service. What's not to like? Will definitely be back soon!

Great food, defiantly coming back
Mystery Babe
Last week I had the most fabulous red headed server I have ever come in contact with. I ate 3 of every dish and when she insisted on a 4th round I had a hard time refusing. I will be back to this petite cafe twice a week from now until I meet my grave.
Brian L.
Ate there Friday night for dinner, great hole in the wall atmosphere, incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. It was a busy evening but not much of a wait. The food was fresh and tasted great definitely going to go back. Love that you can see into the kitchen and the relaxed island attitude of the whole place. Great restaurant !!
MC Funky Mad Dog
I loved it and my wife didn't . I think you have to be in the mood for an adventure to enjoy.

Must GO. Love this place .My friends & I eat therecouple times a month for sure.

-----09 Jan, 2013-----

Great food,good price
Definitely go back

Konga's amazing shrimp and burgers is fantastic!!!!!!!!!owner very nice since I am friends with him but I think he is nice to everyone.the awesome decor gives you that jamacin feel.the fries are very tasty and is seasoned to perfection.the shrimp is the most awesome because it is just so flavorful and tasty.for being such a small place the cafe is perhaps one of the cleanest I have ever been in.their burgers are so juicy and delicious that you might be asking for another!and to top it all off their desserts (every one of them)is exquisite.i recommend this place for anyone who likes food.KONGA CAFE!!!!
Dave Halea
Just had the Pork chops with the apple, onions, and maple reduction sauce with roast potatoes and it was the best meal I have had in a long long time.
Andrew Hnatuk
Food was great, but the ambiance was lacking for a dinner in this price range

Fun place!. Made a reservation here for 7:00 on a Friday night. Interesting dining room ... very cozy, good jams on the stereo.
Our server was excellent. We told her it was our first time being there and she seemed to pay a bit more attention to our table. Food was GREAT! Love the Johnny cakes beforehand and the Peanut shrimp and jerk chicken were very tasty. The highlight ... Key lime pie. Ohh baby this was good! Do yourself a favor and try it ... or not if you don't want to obsess over it after!
Overall, a great experience. Just take the Konga for what it is and go chill, and enjoy some great, unique food.
... try the red sauce on the table.

So good. I can't say enough good things about Konga cafe. I was introduced a few years ago and have never looked back. All the food is amazing and the staff is very friendly. Had my birthday there once and it was perfect. If you've never been, you simply must go.

Excelent- MUST GO. Went for an early supper- 5:00. Seated immediately with a smile- food out in a flash- ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL FOOD. Ordered the ribs and goat. Very Tasty. Key lime pie for dessert- home made with real limes! Added bonus- always a little concearned about clenliness at these small places. Bathrooms imaculate. Think that bodes well for the kitchen?!? Just my opinion.

Definetly recommend.

Broke a Cardinal Sin of the Restaurant Biz. We came here on a business lunch and had a reservation. An hour and a half later we left.

They were short staffed and forgot two of my colleague's meals entirely (1/2 our table). When they caught their error they apologized profusely, but didn't seem to do anything to actually expedite their meals. We were completely done before they were served so we took turns watching each other eat.

Worst of all, my colleagues received no discount whatsoever nor dessert or anything to compensate for their mistake. Anyone who has worked in the service industry would expect the entire meals to have been comped given how unacceptably long their food took.

The food was good, but nothing special if you have experienced much Jamaican or Caribbean before. It's more fusion than authentic.

All in all, I recommend you stay well clear of the Konga Cafe.

Totally impressed!!. Went here on Friday night with some friends and we all had tried different dishes. Everything was great. All the food was cooked perfect with good sized portions. The beer was served in frosted glasses. The servers were excellent and very friendly. I'll definitely be back.

Edit Feb 24/13: We've now been here about 6 different times and every single time, it's been great. I love the mahi mahi.

Not a good experience.. I really can't understand the extremely high rating given for this restaurant. I went there at lunchtime with my daughter and her small son and overall was disappointed.
I chose the mild curry chicken wrap. The curry was so mild, it was non-existent. There was not a taste of curry at all on the plate, merely a hint of yellow colouring. The wrap itself was a very ordinary white tortilla that you can buy anywhere. and it was rather dry. The wrinkle fries that came with my wrap were obviously bought frozen.
My daughter had the klubhouse and said it was "okay".
There is nothing on the menu for kids, but when we asked about it, the waitress mentioned that we could have a half order of something. I think she should have told us this before we had to ask.
The service was reasonable (not outstanding) until it came time for the bill to arrive. Which it never did. I got up and went over to the counter and tried to catch someone's attention so that I could pay for our lunch. Finally, the waitress showed up and when I said I would like to pay my bill, she made some crack about me doing the dishes. That joke cost her a tip, btw.
We arrived shortly after the restaurant was opened for the day and yet it was rather filthy inside, particularly the floor. I'm just glad we didn't need to use the washroom during our visit. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Great food! Great service!. Went to Konga Cafe this evening for supper. We were welcomed promptly. Very friendly atmosphere and you feel like family. I had the jerk chicken and oh my goodness it was to die for. Loved it. This is a must visit!

Was okay, but did not live up to the rating. Really? #1 on UrbanSpoon? The best part of this meal was the fellow serving us. The food was decent. I'd actually say poor value if you look at what you're getting for the price.

I guess I expected more when visiting Saskatoon's #1 rated restaurant. Terrible location, terrible furnishings, poor cleanliness, and the food did not make up for it in my opinion. I don't ind dining in dives, but I usually expect a little more redeeming qualities.

Was not blown away. I was very excited to finally try this place and went there for supper the other day. I may of over-hyped myself before I got there because I was expecting a little more from the food. That being said both our meals (goat curry, spicy peanut shrimp) were very good and we had no complaints with anything, except maybe thought prices were a little high. Overall it was a good dining experience, but everyone had this place hyped up so much we were just expecting a little more. I did like it, but probably will not be back as it didn't leave much of an impression on me.

Great Food. I was in Saskatoon on business and stopped into the Konga Cafe. I was thourougly impressed with the food - fresh, flavorful and memorable. I went for the special of the day - Mahi-Mahi w/ jerk sauce. The fish was grilled beautifully and the jerk sauce was very tasty. I will definatly return if I am ever back in Saskatoon!

Hidden gem. Went for the second time with my daughter.Wonder why I haven't been back before this. So good.the Johnny cakes are such a different treat and a nice start with a choice of sauce. The peanut butter was both our favorite. I had the mahi mahi special ... Cooked to perfection and so incredibly tasty. Rice and beans ..yum and the grilled veg were done just right with a tiny bit of crunch left. My daughter loved her jerk chicken with roasted buttery potatoes. The key lime pie was only half eaten because we were so full.
The service was great. Our waitress was a bubbly smiling person who gave excellent service and advice about the menu when asked.
Both times there has been a nice eclectic mix of customers enjoying the laid back atmosphere of this gem of a place tucked away in a lack luster strip mall.
Keep up the great work

Have been here twice and left amazed both times. Jerk chicken is amazing, flavorful sides-as spicy as u want it (or not) key lime pie is a must, the food had so much flavour it had me doing the limbo out the door and across the parking lot

I absolutely LOVE the Konga Cafe. I have been here numerous times, both for lunch and supper.
The food is always amazing - I ordered the spicey peanut shrimp on my last visit and it was terrific, I highly recommend it. The side potatoes are delicious and the key lime pie is the best I have ever had. It's not the artifically dyed bright neon pie you see most places either - it is creamy, homemade and full of lime flavour.
The johnny cakes that are served as an appetizer are always good, make sure to try out the various hot sauces that are on the table if you can handle the heat.
While the food at the Konga Cafe is terrific, the owner and staff really make it an amazing experience.
I went to a birthday celebration here in November and it was the most fun I have ever had for a birthday supper.
Although we had reserved a table, we did have to wait for approximately 20 minutes before we could be seated. The staff were truly apologetic and that made the world of difference. They offered us the opportunity to order drinks while we were waiting and seated us as quickly as they could. The waitress was quick, prompt and efficient. She made recommendations and explained some of the menu choices for us. The owner of Konga Cafe does the bartending, and he had a heavy hand while pouring our drinks - he wanted us to have a great time. He also send out free shots for everyone at the end of the evening to celebrate the member in our group who was celebrating his birthday. As well, the staff served the birthday boy a free slice of key lime pie, and the owner brought over silly hats and cut-outs for us to amuse ourselves with.
The Konga Cafe has amazing food and fantastic staff - you can tell they truly enjoy their jobs. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yumm. I've had their salmon dish and jerk chicken burger, both are amazing. I go back for the chicken burger.

A bad day?. The beans in the rice were dry, as though the rice had been sitting around a long time. And the jerk chicken was just chicken with jerk sauce on it (I've made better myself with a bottle from the store). Nothing like the awesome Carribean food I've had in Ontario. From the reviews I see here, I wonder if they were just having a bad day.

I'm glad I finally checked this place out, it was great. The key lime pie is awesome. I would recommend a reservation.

Vegetarian plate. If you're vegetarian you need to ask for this! It's amazing, even if you're not vegetarian it's the only dish I eat on the menu and I can never finish it.

The quintessential Jamaican experience!. I've known Eddy (owner) for over 6 years, and the most passionate addition to the Konga, other than the amazing staff, is his food personality. This shows in every dish that hits the table! Never will you regret ordering the same thing twice, always expect to feel like family, and no matter how many times you order Johnny cakes, you'll still want more!!! The servers there are like family, rarely will you see a new face as there's barely any staff turnover, which speaks volumes. I recommend the Konga Cafe with every stewed goat bone in my body!

Just plain delicious. I ate here for the first time last week. It was so tasty. I had the creole shrimp and was thrilled with my choice. The staff was incredible also. I'll be going back.

Great. The red haired server made me a burger and i smiled and ate it and we had the best time with the food and the drink and the happiness we all loved eachother

Loved the Caribbean feel and great food!. We went here on a Groupon whim. I love Caribbean, spicy food and there aren't many restaurants in Saskatoon that cater to this type of cooking so I didn't think we had anything to lose. We were really pleased with the overall experience. Service was a little slow but they were slammed with customers and had only one server on to take care of everyone so I wouldn't count this as a negative for the restaurant. The food is great tasting (we had the peanut shrimp and creole shrimp) and there was plenty of it. I liked all the different hot sauce choices and the drinks that they offered were different then your regular restaurant. What everyone says about the Key Lime pie is right! Even though the meal was great, the pie surpassed everything. It was SO GOOD! You could taste it was homemade and the creamy goodness of it made you want a second piece. We will definitely be going to the Konga Cafe again. :) I would say the only thing missing was a little Caribbean music like steel pan for instance.

Really Good. My husband and I are pleasantly surprised at how good, fast and amazing the food was. Server was awesome - key lime pie to die for. Rice and beans were great. Nice touch at the end witha strawberry filled with baileys.
