Review The Rook And Raven - Saskatoon

Prateek Singh Bawa
Amazing place. Went there on suggestion of my friend. Nice cozy place with great bar. They have amazing selection of alcohol and limited but amazing food menu. We ordered so many things and they were all amazing. The service was really good and Victoria was really nice. I had an amazing experience overall. Worth trying !! One thing - Chicken wings could be better. They were too small in size could have better pieces of chicken in it. Mushroom Bruschetta, Chicken Supreme, Fish & Chips and Smoked Wings is what we ordered with house lager ..

Fantastic food, very welcoming and friendly staff. Calm atmosphere, music wasn't too loud, people chatting at their booths. Highly recommend trying the dinner specials - it's easy to tell that this is fresh food, and that they're "specials" for a reason. The surf and turf was one of the best meals I've had in Saskatoon. Highly recommend!

Again I am glad I listen to reviews, the food, drink and service was unbeatable. The 2 girls behind the bar were fast and attentive, food was very reasonably priced and delicious. I am here on a Wednesday and the surf and turf is all you can eat for the money. I come to Saskatoon every month and this is my new spot!!!!

Solo diner (in town for work) and just needed a good meal after a day of travelling. I liked the dark, woody interior and comfortable seating. Service was prompt. My bacon burger was good - had it with fries and gravy (sumptuous!!!) on the side. I would’ve liked a half-and-half option though of salad AND fries for my side. Maybe think about a $1 upcharge for that?
Roxann Therres
What an amazing dining experience. Had the supper special; shrimp and muscles...amazing flavor. Best I have had since we were in San Francisco. Highly recommend
Daniel Tillie
Tried to book this place for an event because I heard they were the best. Seems the particular coordinator I got wasn't interested in working with me to find a mutually agreeable solution, so I'll be calling around to find someone more willing to listen and work together. It's disappointing because other staff there were super helpful!
Matthew Michayluik
Great feel to the restaurant! The food was delicious!! The beef was so tender and the mashed potatoes were fantastic! Very delicious meal! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal in downtown Saskatoon

Best burger I've found in the city and you get a good sized meal out of it. Worth the few dollars extra you spend over fast food for sure.

I went to The Rook and Raven on a business trip based on the high rating. Had the Scotch Eggs appetizer and Surf and Turf feature both were excellent. Service was quick and very friendly. I will be back.

Been here a few times (lunch and dinner). The food is above average but nothing too surprising. Great service tho. Would definitely recommend!
TMac
Excellent charcuterie (called ploughman’s lunch) - cheese, meats, fruit, fresh baked bun, mustards. All in house made and delicious. Also, Mac and cheese is crazy good. Good selection of wines, good friendly service and great music. Recommend you try it.
Angel K
Great drinks and atmosphere but we had rude service both times going here now. The waitresses acted like we were inconveniencing them by being there.
Michael Buchanan
They have a nice menu options here not just the usual fare. I ordered the risotto balls and the lamb shanks with Parmesan risotto. The risotto balls were awesome nice flavour lots of cheese in the middle and the lamb shanks were cooked really well season perfectly and was a massive portion. The risotto was awesome wanted more of it I need that receipe.

Great place for comfort food in a nice atmosphere. I've never ordered anything here I didn't like. I get the feeling every food menu item has a clear goal in mind, in contrast to existing for the purpose of crossing off some checkbox on a list named "minimum dishes your pub must serve", everything here is definitely prepared from scratch, with skill. The fries are great so don't skip them if you're on the fence. Suggestions: Fried Chicken Club, Fish & Chips.

Sunday night in downtown Saskatoon is pretty quiet. Not too many places are open. Luckily the Rook and Raven is an exception. My wife and I decided to give this pub a shot based on the fact that almost every other option was closed. I'm glad we did. The food was outstanding. We shared a plate of smoked bbq wings before dinner salads for entrees. I chose the duck confit version while my wife tried the steak and blue cheese. Everything was spot on. On top of the food we shared a liter of wine which was reasonably price at $35. I think the entire bill with tip was around $90. All in all, The Rook and Raven is highly recommended.
Amuse Bouche
Spouse and I very seldom come downtown. Thought we'd check it out. It was quiet. We like like to sit up at the bar. At first the bartender wasn't overly friendly but warmed up eventually.
The menu sounded interesting, be back to try many items.
Paul
Ambiance was great, service was great too.
Had the smoked wings, they were fantastic and a good taste of smoke.
Fried chicken club was really really good too, the chicken was super crispy, served on a really crispy white bun. Would have it again in a heartbeat.
Ben
Great atmosphere, great service, great location. I had the Reuben and it was the Best Reuben sandwich in the city! The beef melts in your mouth.
Karen Papove
Had the cold smoked pork sandwich with salad.
Sexy!! - Looking forward to next outing!!
But it will be a struggle to venture away from That sandwich !!!!
Andy Coward
Great atmosphere, attentive servers and staff and reasonable prices for the upscale pub menu. Went Saturday evening for drinks and dinner and were able to easily get a table. Parking in the DT was busy but we still found a spot only a block away. Six of us had dinner and drinks for just over $200! Would definitely recommend if you want something a little different from 'traditional' pub grub!

I love going to The Rook and Raven. It never disappoints. I love there selection of craft beer and cocktails. They always have awesome specials for supper that are always changing.
John Machinist
Visited on a Monday and had smoked pork yorkies as an app (the special that day) and mac and cheese for an entree (yeah, I know... not the most nutritious dinner.) The yorkies were pretty tasty and pretty original. I enjoyed them. But the mac and cheese is the best I've tasted. Pasta al dente, sauce was high in umami with plenty of meat. Panko crumbs stayed crunchy throughout. Incredible! Transported me to a meal I enjoyed in Italy 20 years earlier.

Also the beer and whisky selections were notable. Looking forward to visiting Saskatoon again so I can go to The Rook and Raven!

Oh, and the service was outstanding (sat at the bar)!
Sam J
I have been coming here for years and have literally never been disappointed. The food is reasonably priced and far, FAR above what I expect for pub food, and the service is always decent.
My recommendations are the chicken or the steak, and do yourself a favour and try the sweet potato chips! They are mind blowing.
This is the most consistently good restaurant in Saskatoon, in my opinion.
Lyndsie St.Onge
Great vegan pub food! They have these quinoa croguette appetizer things and they are the best!! Service is really great too. I have absolutely no complaints. This place is an automatic go to for my whole family. We love it here!
Amy Erickson
A friend and I came here for dinner a few months ago. We both ordered the special which was a chicken Cesar wrap and fries. The food was excellent and the service was fairly good as well. Would return if I was in the area!!

Came here again tonight with a group of people. The service was slow, but the food was delicious. Wasn’t as hot as it could have been but very delicious and reasonably priced! 4/5
Sarah
I went to the Rook a couple of weeks ago. It was my first time there and we went in the middle of an afternoon on a weekday so it was very quiet. I had the bison cheek sandwich and words cannot describe how amazing it was. The best sandwich I have ever had, honestly. My boyfriend had their BLT, it was good but also also got fries with it and they were majorly over salted, probably to make you buy more drinks. Over all, the food was great. The service was just okay and that's why I'm only giving the Rook and Raven a 4 star review. I would definitely recommend this place just for the food though!
Drake Tsui
Most definitely not your average bar/pub food. Everything on the menu is well above par despite being familiar (Mac n' cheese) or exotic (Bone marrow).

Would come here again just to eat!
Micheline Gaudet
Had the loaded burger, fries, and gravy. The burger was fantastic, though the fries were a tad on the salty side. Great service also. I would come again!
Heidi Abramyk
Service was goid. Website stated there were a ton of gluten free options so I went at lunch with coworkers. The menu had a prime rib poutine after 2 pm and the lunch stuff was all salads. They didnt serve me the prime rib version .... because they didnt have it in their kitchen yet? But the waitress improvised snd was great and got me a poutine with au jus gravy. So i ended up ok but gf peeps want more optioms if that's what you claim on your website..
Allieeee
I'd heard nothing but good things about this place, but was very disappointed with my experiences both times that I tried it. The mac and cheese was very bland; it's like they forgot to add the sauce to it, and the chicken sandwich tasted like pure onion. The service wasn't good either. The waitresses did the bare minimum, but never even checked to see if the food was okay after it was dropped off. Super disappointing, because most of my friends rave about this place.
Bryana McNab
Had lunch alone yesterday. It was a quiet lunch service, so I was quickly and attentively attended. I ate the Loaded Burger. Came out fast, hot, and fresh. I loved the ancho mayo, I loved the fries and the gravy. Well put together, great staff, and the perfect atmosphere to get out of the office and clear your head during the day. Would be interested to see the nightlife, and try supper sometime.
La Loba
I love this place. I am never disappointed with their meals or appy's. I have to admit I love going there for the Wednesday special 'surf and turf'. The only thing is parking, it's hard to find a spot, but oh so worth that minor detail. The service is always great, even when it's busy. I enjoy the setting, it's not pretentious at all. The drinks are tasty. I love showing this gem to people visiting from out of town or haven't had the chance to eat at this wonderful establishment. I will continue coming to this place. I have had a few bad experiences in a few downtown establishments, but never this place. They have kept a loyal customer.
Crunchy Noms Alot
TLDR:
Pros: options for dietary constraints, service is relatively fast even during high time, servers are laid back but still attentive, fairly decent prices on the "snacks" and alcohol

Cons: Very heavy handed on the salt with most dishes, uneven cooking for steaks, can be a bit loud during high time if you're looking for a romantic night (but I mean it's a pub so...)

Whole Review:
Food (rate: 3/5)
I've been here 3-4 times already, and I've been fairly satisfied with their dishes (I've had the Fish and Chips, Marinere Mussels, Cream of Mushroom Soup and their Surf n' Turf special). One thing I've found consistent across each visit is how heavy handed with the salt they were. I actually found that their Fish and Chips were a bit oily, and had a great crunchy texture on the outside. The mussels were cooked perfectly, and the sauce was fantastic -- not too heavy on the lemon, but just enough to give it a bright tang to the wine reduction. The only thing wrong with this dish was the amount of salt that they had in the sauce. I love me some salt, don't get me wrong -- but they're pretty heavy handed with it here. The same can be applied to the soup, but it had some great flavours in it.

*Surf and Turf Special: I wanted to put this in its own category, just because I really loved it... But there were some issues. The steak; our table ordered 3 of the Surf and Turf special (Char-rare, medium and medium-well). The char-rare came out beautifully, but the medium was done more like a char-rare and the medium-well was done more like a medium-rare. Granted this was done during high time, however my family didn't have the heart to send it back to the kitchen and get it re-cooked when they were so busy, but certainly were not too happy with their cut. The big problem with the steak was how uneven the seasoning was -- and when I mean un-even I mean one end of the steak was seasoned, and the other end was not. So basically you would be cutting into this steak and have over-salted meat for the first half of the steak, and then the second half is just... steak. The shrimp had a LOT of salt and garlic on it, but the veggies that came with it were fine. Baked potato... Meh. It's a baked potato.

Service (rate: 4/5)
Pub service in general is my preferred style -- it's not in your face, and doesn't give off the feeling that they're tying absurdly hard for more tip. The server we had was well-versed in the selection of beers they had available, and had great advice on the best beers to go with which dish. Surprisingly enough, high-time service still had impeccable attentiveness even though they were basically packed; I was extremely impressed!

Atmosphere (3/5)
Typical to a British-style pub, you see the typical dark wooded furniture, walls and floors. A tad bit dark in there, but I wasn't particularly bothered. It was just.. ordinary. So nothing much to comment on it. The music becomes fairly loud at night, so if you're looking for a quiet night out this probably isn't the place for you.

The pickled beat and goat cheese salad is FANTASTIC. Try it!!! Well priced, cool decor, and usually very friendly staff. Great place to walk to while downtown.
What's Real Chinese Food
Tried Fish and chips, Burger

-Fast service
-Reasonable price for "late lunch" menu
-Food quality 10/10
-Alcohol is abit pricey, but it's worth trying their drinks because it's so good.
-No* bullshit service wasting my time

Well done on running this bar and restaurant!
Stopped in for a Sunday evening dinner.
Greeted by a friendly waitress and promptly seated with a beer special in hand!
Waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu.
I ordered the Pigs Plate which consisted of a long plate of three samples of pork..ribs, bacon and chorizo sausage on a bed of slaw with the ribs, salad greens with the bacon'n egg and salad with the sausage.
The ribs (3) were tasty but a little over cooked for my liking (too dry) the slaw was great as was the bacon'n egg on greens as odd as that seems.
I liked the chorizo taco salad the best, very tasty!
The gf had fish'n chips with poutine and a cream of zucchini and portobello mushroom soup.
She loved the soup however the fish was a little too greasy and she had to use a napkin to sop up the grease off the batter. I tasted it and it was actually very good and the grease was pretty light and didn't affect the taste. The poutine was great and was done with shoestring fries, chicken gravy and cheese curds..tasty!
I feel the pigs plate is a little over priced for what you get, but all in all I would return for another meal without hesitation.

So we tried this restaurant for the first time this evening. The food was good and pretty tasty. We came around 6 and were seated right away. The woman who greeted us was so friendly. Our server on the other hand made us feel like attending to us was a chore and then another table came and she was super cheery. So that was pretty disappointing and all the reason for rating lower. Back to the food though. I had the grilled sirloin with fries and it was good for the price. I quite enjoyed my meal. My friend had fish and chips and that was also very good. Lastly my boyfriend had the pork belly main with potatoes and saskatoon berries and that was by far my favourite ! Overall the food was good and the service was mediocre . We plan to return and hopefully the server in more pleasant this next time.

I enjoy the food at the Rook and Raven. Their steak night is really good, love the prawns. Their brunch special is also quite delicious. I prefer to be there earlier than later because it gets quite loud and apparently I am super old so I can't take it.
Alex
One of my favourite places in the city. All night appetizer menu is a divine creation. Drinks are always quick and delicious. Music is funky fresh. Servers always make me feel cooler than I am.

Oh yeah, their main courses are delicious too. Definitely a spot everyone should visit in the city at least once. My pops even likes it and he hates going out (read: paying) for food. If that doesn't convince you I'm not sure what will.

Our first time here was for lunch this week. I know this is a much loved Saskatoon favourite and a well reviewed restaurant but... just not my cup of tea. Call me simple and unrefined but there just wasn't much on the lunch menu that appealed to me. Ended up having the pulled pork sandwich with fries. Pulled pork was okay, just wish there wasn't soggy coleslaw put on top. Not a fan of the homemade ketchup. The decor is very nice and the restaurant is well laid out. Service was attentive. I don't wear a toque indoors, skinny jeans or have a beard so I understand I'm not the target demographic.

One thing that can be said about the Rook is they consistently deliver a quality meal. Dont expect 5 star (and not that they at all claim to be), but I have yet to have a meal that I thought was terrible. Couple of tips, for lunch on wednesday they have prime rib with yorkshire pudding and a side for somthing outrageous like 12 dolalrs and it is absolutely fantastic.

The Rook and Raven is a great place to eat supper! My chicken supreme was so delicious. The fig, chorizo, and goat cheese sauce are an ingenious combination! The fish and chips are also quite good. The cod has the best breading and is cooked to perfection. I love that there are interesting menu items, made with high quality ingredients, not just bar food like I expected. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Just don't eat here if you're in a hurry or on a time schedule, the food doesn't come out quickly.
Valdís
The bartenders are very chatty which is nice and the servers are friendly but give off a decidedly busy air which is understandable since the only time this place seems to be quiet is early afternoons. It's very popular and the location makes it great for people watching both inside and out. The big windows at the front are a favourite place to be in the summer. That said the pricing is fairly high although the portions are not small. They have a good though limited selection so there are not a lot of vegetarian options. The pulled pork is always well flavoured.

The Rook and Raven and Saskatoon is an absolute gem. The bartenders at the Rook know exactly what they're doing. Their creative side when mixing drinks and creating menu items is what many pubs and or restaurants and Saskatoon are missing. I absolutely love that I can go to the rock and expect to have a good meal, one not so easily found in many restaurants in Saskatoon. Whether it's sitting at the bar and experiencing all the bartenders have to show or relaxing in a window seat people watching on 2nd Avenue I'm never disappointed. I always recommend the Rook and Raven for friends visiting Saskatoon or just looking for a nice gastropub experience.
Hungry Critic
Simply put its hands down easily best place downtown for food and drink. People may say otherwise but in my opinion the food is creative the specials are amazing and creativity is evident. Not a lot of places are as bold with there flavours and risk takers from beef cheeks to duck pb and j my past experiences have been great and equally as great are the drink features. The menu is silid from top to bottom. Creativity front of house and back a true gem and great representation of a dining experience that never disappoints. See you there again soon

Had the chicken club sandwich - YUM! It was delicious, and came with shoe string French fries. One of the best meals I've had. Environment was nice, service wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible either.
Jessica DeWitt
One of my favourite places to eat in Saskatoon, particularly for lunch. Consistently excellent. Almost always get the ancho chicken salad club.
Alla Mahina
Hands down the best pub food in the city!! Service can be hit or miss however. They have a "surf and turf" special on Wednesday nights that is to die for! It's also only $12.. That's comparable to an a&w meal.. This place is a gem!
Minion
Have been here for a bit, but lately didn't really feel that the food was as good as it used to be. My waiter kinda sucked for service. In general satisfied.
John Purchase
Amazing! I'm addicted to the Bison Short Ribs now... This is a fantastic find... Great service, great atmosphere and an amazing cuisine!!!!
DIN'T MISS IT!!!!
Sarah
Their wings taste like bacon 10/10 recommend. Service is always good and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I have heard good things about all the food but I always get distracted by the smokes wings nom
Sean Smith
You need to go. Just go. It's a fantastic pub with food that rivals all the best restaurants in Saskatoon. You get all the atmosphere of a neighbourhood pub with good you need to taste to believe. Cheers!
Drewdikoff
Awesome service and food. Never been disappointed with any of my meals. Awesome specials and a huge drink menu. I really love the creativity of the chefs with the menu.
Anne
Always amazing food. The chicken club and BLT are absolutely fantastic. Choose the sweet potato crisps as the side! One of my top choices for lunch downtown.
Graham Currie
Very good pub food! Don't forget to try the snacks, the menu for them is on the table and not the main menu. Friendly staff and nice venue too!
Foodie Jan
I very much enjoyed my meal here. Well prepared and fresh tasting. I had the chicken club and I liked it a lot.
The atmosphere was enjoyable and welcoming. Servers were friendly.
Britt W
They have one of my favourite dishes I have ever had. I just love this place. The chicken supreme is to die for. I honestly haven't had much else on their menu because I fell in love but i'm sure it all tastes just as good.
Happyman
Nice place. I went on a date here with my boyfriend. Came in and sat at the bar to wait for a table, which we had no problems with. Once we sat at our table a few minutes into the meal we we unexpectedly moved to another table as more people were arriving to join the other tables to the right of us. Again no problems as we understand that it's Friday this place is busy. All in all we had a good time and meals were good. We'll be back sometime soon for sure.
Thehappydiner
This place is awesome. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, the menu is exquisite, and the atmosphere is nice. The menu is really exciting because it definitely fits outside the box of typical pub food. It's actual quality food, gourmet for it's environment, and it's cooked to perfection. Plus, it's super reasonably priced! I would typically expect to pay at least ten dollars more for any given menu item at a contenders. If you haven't been, you should make a point of going. It was open for years before I actually went for a meal and I wish I had gone sooner.

Best dish I've ever tasted. Pork bellies ... why aren't these on the menu at every restaurant? McDonald's should introduce the McBelly and it while it would be a poor naming choice it would be a runaway success. Last night I saw pork belly on the menu at the Rook and Raven and I took a chance. If I had ever seen this before on a menu I don't recall but if I did I simply glazed over it and went for the "safer option". Last night I was feeling more brazen, I suppose, and tempted fate by ordering the pork belly with Saskatoon berry sauce with fingerling potatoes and my life will never be the same. Simply put the meal was extraordinary beyond words. As I was attempting to describe to a friend today, "meaty butter". The pork was very tender while maintaining some texture but the layer of fat simply melted away into blissful porky happiness. The Saskatoon berry sauce counter-balanced the ever-so-slight saltiness of the pork with sweet overtones and was the perfect compliment. The fingerling potatoes were a beautiful, understated compliment to the rest of the dish and if the chef had walked out there would have been a one man standing ovation in the restaurant. Thank you Rook and Raven for opening my eyes to a whole new world of bacon bliss.

The Rook and Raven.. Was a incredible meal. I had a burger and beet and goat cheese salad and my daughter had a steak with poutine.
Food was amazing and drinks were original and very good.
our waitress was very knowledgable and very sweet. (Danielle). Made our dinner even more enjoyable.
Would defiantly recommend this pub.

Bad experience. Ordered fish n chips because waitress said it was quick. We waited over half house. Several times we asked the waitress to check on it because we had concert tickets and had to rush. Good never did come and they insisted we pay for it because we ordered it. We tried to explain we never hot it. Too bad!!! We paid for something we never got. Now we are at the concert hungry and miserable. Never again will we go there
Amahzingxela
Awesome Place. Delicious appies and entrees, great drink selection, wonderful staff, nice atmosphere. Love it!

Surprisingly good. I was expecting run-of-the-mill pub food, but I was completely wrong! The food and atmosphere were great, and I was pleasantly surprised with the prices ($11 burger).

Outstanding every time!. One of my favourite places to eat in Saskatoon. Great beer, wine and cocktail menu. Their weend specials are always worth a try. Bison short ribs are delicious and filling. Chicken dish very good too. Nice appetizer choices - the lobster calamari is outstanding. Great food and wait staff. Will go back there again and again.
Blondy_4687
Mixed emotions. I was excited to try this place out. The atmosphere was in between restaurant and pub. Service was okay, the host seemed a little agitated but the server was great. We ordered drinks and dessert. Drinks were good, service quick but the dessert was actually inedible! Panna cotta with caramal candy, you couldn't actually eat the candy part, it was so hard and sticky it immediately bonded to your teeth! We ended up not finishing it for fear we would pull a tooth out! I think I would go back but just stick to the drinks.
Bobby-Bruce
Uncooked Fish - Thanks Stephen. Just ordered fish and chips at the Rook & Raven. The fish was delivered to the table uncooked. I sent the fish back to the kitchen and stuck with the ribs. Stephen, the hipster waiter, didn't even take the fish order charge off the bill. Thanks Stephen. We enjoyed the R&R service.

Decent average food, nice environment.

Excellent establishment!. Just like its sister pub on Broadway, the Rook & Raven has a special place in my heart. A fantastic selection of draught beer and one of the biggest scotch selections in the city, a creative cocktail menu (which they change up every now and then!), amazing gastro pub style food, and some truly lovely serving staff make this downtown location an absolute gem. The Chef (as well as the rest of the kitchen staff) here are superbly talented, and I am continuously impressed by their weekend dinner features, as well as their daily features during the week. The Rook is comfortable, affordable, and delightful. Check this place out!!!

Good Food - Be aware it is 19+. I have had the burger and it was amazing. My husband had the pork belly and just loved it. He could hardly wait to come back and try the place again. Went a different time for appetizers - mostly enjoyed the poutine, but found it to be too salty - I wonder if there was a mistake because I (and my sister who was sharing it) have a very high tolerance for salt and find myself adding it to just about everything, but this was pushing it for both of us.

I am editing this review after posting earlier about my friend and me being turned away because she had a baby (who was sleeping). I received feedback from the establishment that because they are licensed first as a tavern, they cannot allow anyone under the age of 19 in the establishment or they will be fined. I think it's just a good heads up for people to know ahead of time. (It also would have been nice to be given that explanation by the individual who asked us to leave, as I think my friend and I are both reasonable people - and being given the explanation now, it makes complete sense).
Neil.markham
Ribs were inedible. Before I begin, I will preface this story by telling you that I am a trash compactor. I eat everything. I do not send food back. I am a quiet guy and I don't like to make trouble, and I always tip 20%.

I ate here with my wife. She had been here a few times with her co-worker and they both recommended it. They had a rack of ribs on special, and I ordered it. The rack was HUGE, however even with the steak knife provided, I could not cut the ribs. I told the waitress of my troubles, and she took it to the kitchen and brought it back cut into individual ribs. I tried biting into one. Could not get through the meat, it was tough and full of gristle. I ate the salad it came with, and when the waitress returned I told here that I was sorry, but I can not eat these ribs. She took it away without comment. When she brought our bill, she asked how everything went, and my wife explained once again that I was unable to eat the ribs, and could we get them taken off the bill. She talked to the manager and he said that because it has already been rung up, there was nothing they could do. WTF. Will not try again.

Awesome..new favorite. Great service!!! Waitress "sorry can't remember name" was amazing with recommendations of food and beverage all of which blended beautifully together.. thank you
A perfect romantic evening
MG
We are been there a couple times and definitely the food is delicious however we went last night around 9 pm and our server was TERRIBLE!! I don't know if she was kinda drunk but she never brought us anything! She was socializing with people of a different table but literally chating! and the rest tables including us waiting for her attention.
Jenayais
Hands down best dining experience we've had in a few years!!. Our server, I believe his name is Brendan(?), started us out with a great Fight Club joke because of my husbands t-shirt. Absolutely hilarious and started us off for a great meal. I had the Chicken Supreme and let me tell ya, it was Supreme! the gouda, onion and bacon stuffed chicken was only made better by the seasoning on top and the white sauce. The hubby had the loaded burger and claimed it was the best burger he had ever had.
The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant to absolutely anyone and will be heading over there myself again for sure!
Jessica C
This restaurant is outstanding! The good was just amazing- we started with pulled pork tacos, I had the crepes, and my boyfriend had the chicken supreme- every dish was just superb. One of the best meals we've had in a long time. Loved the drink menu, the decor, and the service was excellent. We were visiting Saskatoon on our way from BC to Ottawa and we're so happy we dined here. Highly recommend this place!!

Consistently good. I went to the rook and the raven last night and had the pork belly with Saskatoon berry jam and potatoes. The potatoes were potatoes, can't fault them for that. But the pork belly was one of the most delicious things I have eaten in my life. It worked so well with the jam for a savory-sweet delicacy that I thought about all evening.
Last night's foodgasm aside, my husband and I used to done here occasionally on date nights. We only stopped coming in order to discover other restaurants but the rook and the raven has consistently good food.
Benjismumm
Unbelievably Bad Food. Disgusting greasy fish and chips, mushroom bruschetta swimming in balsamic UGH never again.
Parambir_virk
Professional service and soothing environment !!. I tried rook and raven couples of week back with one of my friend and i must say i loved it. We chose a place near by the large entrance window on sofas that had a view to watch outside on the street. Started off with the cocktails and i was surprised to see the beer cocktails on the menu. Tried one of them with Guinness and cola and i never regretted for my order. Lady who was serving us was professional and had a warm gesture to make us feel comfortable. CHICKEN SUPREME was the best ever i had and i am planning to go back some other day with family this time. All in all a good experience and a nice place to dine out. highly recommended !!
Too Good A Cook
Ok but not great. Was there tonight and tried the new smoked duck snack. Duck was good but sauce detracted from the duck. Ordered beet and goat cheese salad with blackened chicken. Salad ingredients were fresh, dressing was tasteless. Beets should have been roasted to increase flavour. Blackened chicken was charred, dry and had no spicy kick or flavour.

A Gem in Saskatoon. I love The Rook and Raven. The staff are great, always friendly and helpful. I've been here on many occasions from large gatherings to just a quick lunch and have not been dissapointed. You can tell they really care about their food, the menu is well thought out and they always have something exciting to try. I have the Ploughman's Lunch the other day and the Beef Tongue (it was my first time) was delicious! Go check this place out!

One of the best decently priced veggie burgers in town !

Just a Solid Lunch. Decided to take the lunch special for a rip today and as always, I wasn't disappointed. It was ribs and scallops on bacon rice. I know what you're thinking, and yes, it really was that good. They really know what they're doing here. The chef has his stick on the ice at all times.

Try the scotch eggs, sooooo good!! This place is really reasonable and the food is good. Only complaint is we had a waitress the one time that favoured men's tables over us ladies, but other than that great food comfortable atmosphere.

Came here on Saturday at lunch time, was referred by a friend that the food was good. Group of us were shocked at the small menu. The place was dark and dingy, and the music was something you would hear while making up a mini movie about the game clue. We ordered some drinks and the moose head beer that my friend had did not taste like moose head. Also, the waitress did not even know the special of the day, and we found out that they do not do that anyways after asking and her having to scramble around asking other workers. We were dissapointed with the menu so asked if we could order snacks which were to be served only after 2pm. She then told us on Saturdays they serve snacks all day (why wouldn't she inform us before?) we all ended up ordering the poutine which was so salty we each had to take a take out box. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Not going back

Worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. Food is decent and well priced. Guinness is just ok.

So good. There is NOTHING on that menu that fails to please. Service is good, but sometimes (and this is rarely) they are a little too focused on appearances and will serve the "pretty" people first - but I stress that this is only very rarely.
10/10 would recommend.

Disappointed, dispirited and insulted!. I walked away from here disappointed, dispirited and insulted! If this is how they treat a new costumer, what's it like for regulars whom the restaurant presumably has less interest in treating properly.

Solid menu. Lots of things you don't see elsewhere. Risotto balls and the mac'n'cheese are a steal at $24. Service is not too shabby, drinks are fairly cheap

I'm always impressed with the food at this place. Everything I've eaten here is a little bit different, but very good! This time I ordered the soup of the day: beef barely soup. It has an amazing smokey taste, a bit of cayenne spice I think, and some other flavours I can't quite place. It was pretty amazing though! And it comes with garlic bread. I recommend!

If you haven't been to the Rook & Raven you area missing out. this place is a true gem in heart of downtown saskatoon. They have taken traditional pub fare to a whole other level. They have a great selection of cold beer on tap and the food is outstanding. everything on the menu sounds fantastic, and the service is top notch.Try the pork belly. it will change your life. It is slow cooked to perfection and is served with a sweet saskatoon berry compote which compliments the salty richness perfectly. the mac and cheese is another must try. it's creamy, delicious and is in my opinion the definition of comfort food. I will be retuning very soon.

Service. Love the place. Service is great and the food creative. Stop in and enjoy the Guinness.

Can't go wrong! Good food, drink and service!. I have yet to have anything here that's not delicious. Just took my parents and son for supper this past weekend, so 3 generations between 21 and 71 and we all had a great meal! The service was fantastic, the choices unique, fresh and very well prepared! We had the Steelhead Trout, Braised Porkbelly, Mac and Cheese and Chicken Pot Pie and not a crumb was left! We also enjoyed the extensive Scotch List and the choice of taps for draft beer. Another great feature is that many items are identified for those with dietary concerns, my Steelhead Troug was a gluten free meal for example. While the atmosphere is fun and upbeat, my parents commented that with the ceiling beams, it kept the background noise to a minimum so we could visit and they could hear with hearing aids. Was a great experience.

Upscale Pub. The Rook and Raven isn't only one of the best pubs in Saskatoon, but it also has some of the best, most reasonably priced food in all the city.

In particular, two of my favourites are the mac and cheese and the beet salad. The mac and cheese is creamy and incorporates bacon to make it great comfort food. The beet salad is huge and contains a variety of vegetables, fruits, cheese and nuts. Go with a friend and split 1/2 of each and you'll have a great supper. The food is far above standard pub food and would probably classify The Rook and Raven as Saskatoon's 'true' gastropub.

One of the Best Restaurants in YXE. This restaurant is like the title says. They have perfected a menu that can meet any sort of preference and the quality and taste of the food is excellent. The service is great and even when they are busy they do very well. I would definitely recommend the Chicken Supreme and the Pork Belly.

Best Salads Ever. Everything I've had here was good, but their salads are beyond! Big, fresh, hearty, delicious!

Have had one meal there so far and it was the pork belly. I dream about it now. Single handedly one of the best things I have eaten.

Love this restaurant!! I've been here 3 times now and each time I've left after having a great experience! The service is always wonderful and the menu has so many delicious choices! Plus they have some unique beers on tap and everything is reasonably priced! They don't take reservations which is tricky when you come with a large group but you can hang out at the bar while you wait and the staff does all they can to speed up your wait for you!! I can't wait to come back here again!

Very poor service. I met my partner at the Rook and Raven over my lunch break. We showed up before the lunch rush. Our server had somewhat negative attitude. As if we had somehow interrupted her day. It took some time for her to take our order. Once she finally took the order it was more than 45 minutes for the food to come to the table. We ordered the pasta special and the turkey burger. Neither should take 45 minutes to cook. She visited with friends and coworkers while we waited for our lunch. We finally asked her how much longer she thought it would take. She indicated it should be ready right away. She went to the kitchen and came out with our Luke warm food. After we finished eating it took an additional 20 for her to ask how we would like our bill. Another 20 minutes and She brought us the bill and said to let her know if we needed change or the debit machine. Then she never came back. We went to the bar to pay. I'm should good would have been great if it was hot. But it wasn't. Further it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to have lunch downtown. Usually I enjoy the Rook and Raven. But today's bad service makes me apprehensive to return or recommend it to others.

Great!!!. Started going there, as it used to be the Black Duck, (my favorite pub), and the Rook is now our 'go to' place. Staff are always attentive and courteous, decor is comfortable.

The prime rib poutine is really good, (probably not what you'd call 'health food'), but it tastes great!!!!

Been here 3 times so far & love it every time! Food is excellent, service is fair. Only had one questionable service experience but made up for it with free appetizers. Love the Mac & cheese, steak is melt in your mouth delicious & the scotch eggs hit home for me. Love the environment & will definitely be returning soon!

They have the best burgers in Saskatoon, and cheap at $11.00. I never finish the whole plate with fries. Half pound charbroiled burger, fresh bun, fresh crisp lettuce, onion and tomato, with a nice house made sauce. Cheap and delicious. I love a beautiful burger, trust me I know burgers, and this is the best in the city. I have had it 4 times, never disappointed. They pour a nice draft Guiness, and make a tasty Caesar too. Fish and chips are gorgeous also!

Better Than Expected. My husband and his family went to Rook & Raven for a birthday dinner. We went during the the holidays and were almost sick of holiday over eating - but this was a great change up. My husband and sister in law both ordered the Pork Belly, my father in law had the prime rib poutine, my mother in law had the fish & chips, and I had the grilled steak and blue cheese salad. The salad was very good, with a lot of veggies and a good amount of steak. The steak was cooked well, but I would have preferred the steak to be better seasoned. The Poutine definitely came with A LOT of meat and was a meal in itself! I also tried the Pork Belly, which I thought was the best meal of the bunch. A crispy layer of cracklings with a Saskatoon berry compote really compliment the plate. The combination of the salty pork belly and the sweet berries was perfection! If I go back I would most definitely order the Pork Belly. The drinks were a bit on the expensive side (cocktails) and were just ok. Nothing to write home about. The only negative was that they were sold out of their lamb dinner special by 6:30pm on a Saturday, which to me just equals poor planning/food ordering. We were all happy with our meals and I would likely go back to Rook & Raven in the future. While it does feel a bit informal, the food was worth it!

Great food, nice service. Just went here for the first time today and tried the pulled pork sandwich. Literally the BEST pulled pork sandwich I've ever had! The service was good, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Definitely coming back here!

One of my favorite places! The staff is always astounding (and cute) and the food never, ever disappoints!
They also have the second best mac 'n cheese on the planet!

The Rook and Raven. The best all around. No question about it. I just wish there were more tables.
