Review Shawarma Hut - Saint John

Honestly don’t know where to start!! I didnt really expect much but the bare minimum. My co worker and I went there for lunch time and we threw the chicken right into the dump. Not edible at all!! We got the chicken souvlaki and shawarma poutine !! My college just ate the fries but my meal was garbage. I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s business but that was absolutely unacceptable!!

Updated in 2022 - I originally wrote a 5-star review 3 years ago, at that point I had been a regular at Shawarma hut for years. I craved it all the time and the portions were generous, the food flavorful. I went back today for the first time since COVID struck, and not only was the service agonizingly slow, the quality and portion of food I received was not even a shell of its former self. On top of this, they were low on chicken at lunch time, and they didn't have any chicken cooking on a spit like they used to have - a bad sign to be sure. I ordered the chicken Shawarma poutine like I always did - what I got was a meagre serving of generic-asian cuisine-tasting reheated chicken, a small splatter of what appears to be mozza cheese sitting on a half-what-it-used-to-be-sized bed of soft and flavorless fries. The consistency makes me think these were heated up in a microwave. Sadly, there's also hardly any of the special gravy they used to use - it used to cover the fries, but now there's just a sad little puddle of gravy underneath everything, and it has nearly no flavor at all - just a vague saltiness. They still charge the same prices they did before, but the value and quality are shockingly poor now. I'm very sad to have to rate this 1 star, but I'd rate it lower if I could. McDonalds would have been a better use of my money.

Can't say enough bad things about the food here. For $30 my daughter had "poutine" and I ordered the "chicken shawarma platter". What we found when we opened out take out trays was neither of those things. The "poutine" was covered in some weird chicken flavoured yellow sauce and with a hint of some white shredded cheese. Absolute sacrilege to call that poutine without even a trace of cheese curds and proper brown gravy. A few bites out of morbid curiousity, then into the bin where it belonged. The "shawarma" consisted of some kind of chopped and sauteed chicken, sauteed FFS. Then some chopped veg and stale rice. Absolutely horrendous, again, a few bites, all tasted off so it too into the bin. As I wasn't far, I elected to let them know of my displeasure, with their only real only response being " the owners not here" and " we don't have cheese curds ". Would definitely not recommend.

We absolutely love the food here. The Shawarma is amazing! Their hummas has to be homemade, so much better than store bought. Great portion sizes so bring your appetite. Very freindly family run business in the Old City Market.

The food is incredible and the service is top notch! The shawarma chicken wrap is a must have!

Had a chicken shawarma wrap with everything. The smaller size was plenty for me. Server was friendly and helpful. I will be back.

Easily the best shawarma I've ever had! A bit on the pricey side for a high school student though, and the line can get pretty long during the lunch rush. All the same, I absolutely love this place!

I love the food here.Too bad that whenever I go I am served by the same man that is always unnecessarily rude. I watched with my jaw dropped as he waved a man in a suit forward and tended to him in the middle of my transaction. He literally had my money in his hand and took the man's order and credit card and got back to me after he was done. Everyone else that works there is very nice but that guy just doesn't seem to want me as a customer. I won't be going back.
