Review Super Stars Cafe - Richmond

Went there two times so far, not bad. It's not super good but believe me, a Hong Kong Style Restaurant serves so many kinds of dishes and it's hard to have everything goods. The dry-fried rice noodle and sliced beef (乾炒牛河) is a simple dish but required good skills of the chef. Seats are comfortable and service is okay.

Hong Kong style cafe with good quality food. Lots of locals and the breakfast menu before 11:30am seems popular. The bench seats are a bit tight, but the place has a nice atmosphere and definitely a bit for Hong Kong flavour. Parking in the lot is plentiful with some overflow paid street parking. Worth a visit.

Came here for tea time special at around 5pm on a Wednesday. Came here specifically for the 2$ french toast because where else can you get a price like that for HK style french toast. Everything else on their tea time menu was very well priced. We got the fish rice soup, scallop curry and baked bolognese noodles. We felt the fish rice soup was mediocre but they are very generous with the amount of seafood in there. The scallop curry rice was not bad. Pretty good curry flavours and fragrance. They give you a lot of curry compared to the amount of rice. The baked bolognese pasta was mediocre in flavour and the sauce was pretty boring. Would recommend you skip this dish and order something else. The French toast was definitely worth 2$. Although not an exceptional french toast it was definitely the highlight of our meal. The service here is quite friendly and as it was pretty empty as it wasn't during peak hours, everything came really quickly. I looked at what other tables were ordering and it seems like everybody gets their stir fried dishes. Next time I would come back during tea time 3-6 or 9pm till closing and try their stir fried noodles and rice. Overall the portions here are quite big, flavours are mediocre but definitely reminds you of Hong Kong. Tip: they charge for takeout boxes here. Please either bring your own (to help the environment), be prepared to pay, or don't pack anything away

Well decorated inside with a movie star theme. Otherwise, it's a standard Hong Kong Cafe. Tried the mixed grill with ribeye steak and HK sausage. The portions are generous and you will be full The HK sausage was essentially a hot dog and the steak was alright but kinda of mediocre in quality. I found a piece of cooked black sticker in my Russian soup likely not peeled from some of the produce before cooking. Overall, average food.

Super Star Cafe in Richmond. Receipt says Super Stars but menu says Super Star so who knows.... Ordered curry beef brisket with rice and the 2 item combo. Curry was average, not many pieces of meat and lots of fat (as shown in the pics). The meat was tender though. Flavour was decent and had strong curry flavour. I prefer the Mui Garden flavour more though. Portion was sufficient for one person to be full. The 2 item combo was not bad. Deep fried fish cutlet was fresh and crispy. Large portion of meat. They could have put on a bit more sauce but they charge $1 for extra sauce. Both come with a hot drink (extra $1 for cold). It also came with soup and garlic toast. The soup was luke warm when it arrived so we sent it back and they probably just microwaved it. It was definitely just sitting around and didn't taste that fresh. It also had so mushy chunks in it which which assumed was the cream soup not fully dissolved. Good portion size. The servers were not very friendly. They drop the food at your table and leave and don't say anything. They also don't smile and look like they don't wanna be there.

Really friendly service, even though their English is not good. Typical Chinese cafe fare. Decent price and portions.

Typical Chinese cafe food but done without any effort. The staff are rude (even for a Chinese place) and inattentive. The only positive is the decor is nice and clean. There are many Chinese style cafes across Richmond but this puts the least effort into the cooking of their food. I can only describe the taste and look of the food as bland. It's especially disappointing because the prices are higher than a typical cafe as well. Most people understand that in most Chinese places the staff can be stand offish. Super Stars staff take it to the next level and just don't care. They'll make you ask 3x for a glass of ice water for kids. When it does come it's piping hot water. It doesn't help today they also have a sassy attitude when you ask for any type of service. The only nice thing about this place is the decor. It's clean and bright but I'd rather eat in a dingy hole in the wall with better food and servers who don't hate jobs.

Had to write a review because of the $2 French toast on special. They also offer the pineapple bun with slab of butter :)) The place was full on a Saturday and the staff was really pleasant. Street fighter arcade cabinet... Great milk tea. Food was pretty good I guess but everything else about this is great. I'll come back for a nice HK diner experience.

This place is one of the worst places to visit for an afternoon meal with your family. The restaurant itself may look attractive with a good atmosphere but the bad food and service definitely makes the place stand out like a sore thumb. The dishes were not properly cleaned; my bowl in particular had sauce on the bottom of the bowl; the rest of the bowls were sticky with oil. We had to ask the waiter to replace them but he looked redundant to do so. We ordered a dish of fried rice; it came out to be very flavourless and dry. It did not look like the one on the menu nor the one we had before. We had to ask them to remake the order but they literally just reheated it with some more soy sauce. The dishes came before the drinks did, plus the drinks were way watered down, the drinks supposingly came with the meal. With this place having such bad service and flavourless food, this will definitely be our last time visiting this place.

○bad service / I asked for half Noodle in my soup they said it is not possible. How's it not possible??? All they say is "no".. / don't expect personalization<br/>○decent food<br/>○family friendly<br/>○lots of options on menu<br/>○price was reasonable<br/>○if I had to choose 1 dish: their custom grill menu<br/>○would I go back? Maybe

This cafe is a bit hidden in Richmond, but you can see it when you drive by no.3. It used to be Hollywood Cafe. I don't see a difference as they kept the old restaurant looks. It's quite a neat little place. We haven't come here in a bit, so we thought we'd give them a try. Their menu is a bit more expensive than some of the other hong kong cafes in the area, but it's not super expensive. I ordered from the special menu on the chalk board (which was all in Chinese by the way). There were 2 specials, some hot pot soup with rice and what I ordered, the Chicken steak with spaghetti in black pepper demi sauce. Cold drinks are $1 extra. The dish came, and the portion was pretty big, so I would say the dish was worth what it cost. They were a bit strict with their specials. The specials were approximately ~$1 or less cheaper than the original one from the menu but they didn't allow and options such as changing to french fries (which most similar cafes do allow). It came with a lot of sauce, and I would rate the sauce an A as it was super flavourful and the spiciness was just right, but because the sauce is already poured onto the dish, over time, the food gets super salty from the demi sauce. The carrots and corn were buttery, carrots were a bit mush, and corn was not sweet. Chicken steak was pretty good, though the one I had was a bit on the fatty end, where I prefer a bit leaner cut. Overall, it was okay~ but what makes me probably not returning is their beverage. I had a simple horlicks, and it was just way too watered down. Overall, the food was pretty good. Service wise, the waitresses did what they had to do. No smiles though.

Food is always delicious every time I visit. Don't expect anything fancy, expect big portions (generally) and general cafe standards.<br/><br/>My only complaint is that the waitresses today didn't seem to understand English, at all. I called in earlier to ask about making a reservation, the lady who answered the phone said I had the wrong number... When I switched to Chinese to inquire about the reservation, I was able to make one right away. Same as when we arrived at the restaurant, my friend asked for a bottle of ketchup, and the waitress didn't understand... <br/><br/>I'm not expecting fluency in English in Richmond. But just the very basics in order to do business, is that too much to ask?

Had the worst experience here ever. The service here was horrible. They took the wrong orders twice and made the wrong drinks. The quality of their drinks were horrible, do you expect your customers to stir their own drinks with the powder still floating on top?? Despite the mistakes there were NO APOLOGY. I have never been more disappointed, heading in to a HK style cafe I have no expectation for exceptional customer service but they did not even provide prompt service and accuracy. I will never come here again, it is over priced, under staffed and have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Service was TERRIBLE. This is my WORST dinner experience ever! They were under staff. We waited for almost 20 mins for them to just to clean the table and another 15 mins for them to give us some tea and take our order. I ordered a beef tenderloin spaghetti and a lemon tea. The waitress took the order and repeated my order n asked me twice if I want lemon tea lol so we waited for like another 15 mins or so for our drinks. She gave me a milk tea instead of a lemon tea and missed one of our drink. Took her awhile to get all of our drinks here correctly. For around another 20 mins or so, we finally got like the first dish on the table and it took another like 10- 15 mins for all the dishes to arrive EXCEPT mine which she has missed lol. Called her over and asked her about it. She DID NOT apologize for her mistake and said that "I asked u twice if u wanted lemon tea and you said yes. " but she repeated my order earlier? LOL So she tried to take my order again and I told her that I want the beef tenderloin spaghetti and she said we r out of order, and then I asked for a steak and rice and apparently they were out too (I do not have the menu at that time). She just stared at me and expected I know what's on the menu. I had to ask her for the menu again myself lol so I finally decided to order a seafood pasta in tomato sauce. Waited for like 20 mins or so and all of my friends were already finished with their food and then she came out with the baked seafood pasta which was in cream sauce LOL n i told her i ordered it in tomato sauce and all she did was looking at me didn't know what to do and yet DID NOT APOLOGIZE AGAIN or try to make up for it. They were close to closing too. So at the end, I told her "it is okay. I don't want this anymore. We will just get the bill." So if you want SLOW and BAD services, this will be a great place for you to go to. I've never written a review on any restaurants before although I might had some bad experiences with them but the service here was just so bad that I've decided to write a review.

There were no super stars here... I expected to find celebrities. :(<br/><br/>Large selection, and the photos on the menu looked scrumptious!! However, the food was decent. Nothing too special. A perk was that you got a free hot drink with every dish though!!<br/><br/>Service was nice. Not many waiters, but the one waiter did a good job of getting back to us. :)

So here was the dish I had been craving for: Baked Pork Chop and Rice Casserole with Tomato ($10.99). It looked amazing and smelled wonderful. The sauce had a beautiful glow and a great consistency. The aroma from the fried egg in the fried rice: nailed it! The flavour of the tomato sauce: checked! The pork chop: errrrr, not so good. The pork chop was probably cut too thin and it was dry under the breading crumbs. And the size of the whole dish was smaller from what I could remember too.

Ben and I went out for early lunch, just after 11:00AM on a Sunday morning. We decided to give Super Stars Cafe another try since my first attempt failed to secure a parking spot. This time, there were plenty of parking spots because we were early. The photos on the entrance look just like it’s predecessor’s (Hollywood Steak House) dishes. Even the interior looks exactly the same.

Even a groupon style voucher cannot justify it. I usually do not like to waste time to leave reviews for restaurants in the "middle greatness group". Therefore, reviews for restaurants are either exceptionally great or bad... This is one of the bad ones. I like to visit voucher sites to get different deals and I bought a deal for this place and went to this restaurant with my friends on Friday. We had 8 people. The service was good for a Chinese Cafe, the servers would not keep dropping the plates at one place, they would try to put the stuff down at different section of the table. As a restaurant, the food must be good and this restaurant does not meet the guideline of good. Each voucher includes a chicken salad, a main course out of 7 choices and a red bean slush/ice drink or cold lemon ice tea. The chicken had this spicy sauce and the taste was too strong for a salad. To me, salad is supposed to offer you the fresh taste to prepare for the main course, it did not do that. There are pictures in their menus for the 7 choices. Most of us ordered the lamb shank or the Alberta steak with garlic sauce and rice and all of us ordered the red bean slush/ice drink. Oh boy, the pictures were deceiving.... My impression looking at the plate was nothing more than WTF. For some reasons, The rice got bigger and the meat got at least 50% to 65% smaller, leaving about 35% to 50% of the size in the picture. It was hard to finish all the rice even with the sauce... I tried the steak, it was alright, nothing impressive. However, the lamb shank was very chewy. I usually finish the drink too but I just could not finish the red bean slush/ice. Somehow, the milk and the red bean slush would separate very quickly leaving the milk at the top with milk solids flowing around and the red bean at the bottom. <br/><br/>To conclude:<br/>They wasted the server's good service (in Chinese restaurant standard) by offering crappy food. They also wasted their opportunity to lure in future customers by screwing up with their voucher promotion.
