I love this place! A place where u can get good chinese food at 2am. I think this place is way better than no. 9! And prices for small plates gets cheaper after 9:30! Service is mediocre but im still happy when i go there. U can bring your own bottle too on special occasions.
Reasonable Service - OK Food. I have ordered food from Wing Kee for delivery once before and found it to be reasonably good. I got the Almond Chicken, Special Cantonese Style Chow Mein, and Special Fried Rice. Food was tasty. The only problem was that the Chow Mein did not arrive crispy. It had been sealed in a takeout container and not allowed to breath. It tasted good, but did not have the crunch.
This experience lead me to give the restaurant a try in person last night. I arrived about 7 PM and there were several tables in use, but the place was not overly busy. I was promptly seated by the hostess and given a menu and had a drink order taken. The can of diet Coke arrived quickly with a full glass of ice.
I ordered the only combination dinner for one on the menu: Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork, Chicken Chop Suey, and the only choice - Pork Fried Rice or Chow Mein. I ordered the rice. An egg roll comes with the dinner and was served by itself with plum sauce before the main meal arrived. It was tasty.
The main meal arrived on a large oval platter with the S&S Pork separated from the Chop Suey by the Fried Rice - excellent presentation.
The rice was as good as I remember the delivery being. The Chop Suey was an unusual mix of veggies - lots of water chestnuts, baby corn, and tiny mushrooms with a sprinkle of broccoli and what I think was Gai Lan or baby Bok Choy, and loads of chicken.
The S&S had loads of crisp onion, green peppers, and pineapple with the breaded pork. I did notice a strange taste - not bad, just different from any pork I've tasted anywhere else. Not sure if it was a spice, or something tainted the cooking oil.
All in all, and enjoyable meal, but not one I would consider special.
They are open late - til 3 AM and close by my home for late night bike trips for munchies. I'm sure I'll be back.
PS - Note to Chinese Restaurant Owners - You really need to cater to single diners with combo meals and some variety. Can we get at least 4 to 6 combos for one on the menu? I know they are a pain for the cooks, but you are losing out on an important segment of the market. - JWP
UPDATE: October 21, 2013 - Another late-night visit to the Wing Kee Restaurant. I arrived about 10 PM and was surprised to find very few people in the restaurant - one large table of about a dozen people having some type of celibration, and two tables of couples. Usually this place is full during the late hours as it is one of the few places open til 3 AM.
I ordered the Combo Dinner for One with Fried Rice. It arrived quickly, but I noticed that it was not piping hot - while some items were hot, some were noticeably cool, as was the plate. Not sure why as it arrived very quickly after placing the order. Everything was tasty. The egg roll arrived shortly after the main platter, already cut in two, with a side dish of plum sauce. It was noticeably greasy and not very crisp, but tasted good.
For $11.95 + tax & tip, it filled the spot.
A great place for some Chinese food. Last week i was there with a friend for dinner. The staffs seemed nice and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. We ordered honey garlic wings, a plate of vegetables, 2 spring rolls and some rice. The chicken wings were EXTREMELY tasty!
Thumbs Up!. I've been there a few times before already, the food quality has been quite stable. Through out the week from Mon-Sun they have different daily specials .I.e steam live scallops, oyster in the shell, live fish etc.
The price range is very reasonably, service was good and of course the food is good too!
will definitely bring some friends there and recommend to other people.
We craved for Lamb Casserole these days:P It may sound weird to have this in April but no one says you can only have it in Winter. In addition, it’s still pretty chilled for me. We had lamb casserole in Wing Kee. We have heard that the quality has gone up with the new owner. Menu. Fermented red beancurd 南乳醬 It comes with the lamb casserole. Lamb Casserole with Beancurd 枝竹羊腩煲 Ta-daaa~~~~ It’s super huge~! Smells very nice…>< Look at it>< Isn’t it beautiful and tempting?? Boneless Lung Guang Chicken with Ginger and Salt 去骨沙薑龍崗雞 It’s quite dainty and we love it boneless. However, there are many scattered bones at the bottom covered by the chicken… We didn’t order much but all we have ordered are satisfying (except the scatterd bones). I will go back:) Wing Kee Restaurant 新榮記海鮮食館 (604) 270-1825 #120- 8260 Granville Ave Richmond, BC
Suanne and I had just sent off our boys for summer camp. They will be away for a full two weeks in Vancouver Island. While they are away, Suanne and I took the opportunity to scoot off on a vacation on our own. We did not want to go far for dinner because
My son and me we went for a quick bite and we ended ordering 4 dishes, the prices are a little bit higher but if you want to eat quality you need to pay the price, service so great and friendly I definitely will go back.
