Review Saint Germain Bakery - Richmond

We always stop at Saint Germain Bakery when at Aberdeen Centre and it never disappoints. I love the red bean paste buns, which are not very sweet and absolute magic in the mouth. My kiddos love the coconut creme buns and the mochi as well.

Black forest cake is the best I have ever had. There are real cherry sauce in side And it’s super delicious!

This is an upscale bakery founded by Thomas Fung. There are a few locations in Metro Vancouver as well as in Greater Toronto Area. During the pandemic the business offers disposable gloves and hand sanitizer to its customers. There are plenty of parking at Aberdeen Centre but during weekend or Chinese New Year is a different story on parking. Overall, the cakes, pastries, and baked goods quality are very good but comes at a price. In my opinion, the prices are tend to be higher. As for baked goods size wise it’s about average except for their black cherry cheesecake which is a lot smaller. I wish the size is a bit larger for the same price.

It's a good Chinese bakery. They have all the usual buns including coconut, pineapple and sweet bread. They also do cakes and desserts, as well as regular breads. Service is quick and fast though they often have lines. They have credit card and debit as well as cash. Parking is accessible from the mall lot(free), or from the road (paid). There is a Canada line station here.

Friendly staff, good pastries. Very convenient if you need a gift and you happen to be in the area. They have some cute cakes. My mother loves coming here. They have a 10% off card.

I don’t know if it’s just this location, but I had to use up the entire amount on the gift card from a friend and was not allowed to use my discount card! 😕 Their yummy pastries sort of made up for it even though I had to freeze half of them.

Good quality Asian style cakes here. Had the chestnut cake. Very rich and nutty. Worth trying but not something to be eaten frequently... More like a once in a while thing.

The staff are attentive and very nice even if you don't speak Chinese & have some miscommunication. Plus you can use debit/credit card. Their cake is tasty and other baked desserts such as banana bread, blueberry bread and egg tarts are so reasonable & huge :)

Shout out to Saint Germain Bakery which still has one location serving customers at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond.  You can also get their breads, pastries, cakes delivered to your home. A few months ago, I picked up a variety of goodies: Matcha Mochi Buns, Chocolate Buns, Strawberry Buns, Taro Pastries, LongJing Tea Pastries, and 2 Salted Yolk Pies. Each of the items came out to be just about $2.

Came here early when they just opened. The shelves were still bring filled but we get fresh bakery. They have reasonable selection and quite reasonable in taste. Prices are average, not cheap for some items.

Best molten cheese tart moist and not too heavy in the inside. Tried the 酥皮 egg tart and Portuguese egg tart but its okay, cant compare to the molten cheese tart.

My brother got a cake for my dad's birthday yesterday. It was a sponge fruit cake, very classic Chinese style cake.<br/><br/>This particular one was covered in white chocolate and was very delicious. We didn't expect that there was blueberries and grapefruit inside too. I highly recommend this cake. Absolutely delicious.<br/><br/>

The staff is horrible...I have experienced numerous rude attitude at this bakery, but this last experience is the final straw.   I went to pick up a pre-ordered cake.  I waited in line for my turn.  The cashier's attitude was rude and when she cannot find my cake, she said no cake, and told me to move aside.  The cashier said she has customers in line behind me.  Well, I'm a customer too, I waited in line for my turn, and my cake should be ready as it was pre-ordered for pick-up.  I asked the cashier to find another staff to assist me, but the cashier ignored my request and continued with the customers in line behind me.  The cashier didn't respond to me and didn't look at me either.  I had to find another staff myself and my cake was there all along in the same fridge that the cashier checked and said no cake.

I had Saint Germain's Bakery BBQ pork bun in China and honestly it was the best BBQ pork bun I have ever eaten. I dropped by to get one for my girlfriend and I to experience the great wonder of this bun. It was sad, it didn't even taste that great, I was embarrassed. The bun tasted the same although the BBQ pork filling inside was different. I also bought an Ensaimada bun to bump it over $5 for the use of a credit card. The bun wasn't that great. Sweet with sugar, a bit of sugar coconut filling and a butter bun, nothing too special. My money would have been better spent buying a cocktail bun. Perhaps the Canadian quality isn't on par with the overseas operations.

Heard they had the best BBQ Pork bun ever so of course I had to try. The bun was soft and sweetish, but I had a 3 or 4 bites and still no BBQ pork! And.. no I do not bite small. Finally on the fifth bite there were BBQ pork. Honestly, it tasted like any other BBQ pork bun I had tried. I normally get BBQ pork bun at Maxim since it's near my work and it just taste the same to me.

I agree with the previous posts about their service. Their service is terrible. The staff there are all serving with snobby attitude because they think their bakery is well-known. The high ratings are for their cakes but not their service. I don't need to go back because there are other bakeries in Richmond that have good cakes as well.

Coconut tarts are alright, though would probably travel elsewhere for better quality.

Employees Steal. Title says it all. Beware the Richmond location. Heck, beware the whole chain. I, for one, am definitely not going back. Though I will miss the macarons.<br/><br/>Or were they macaroons?

Doesn't seem pleasant. I occasionally purchase a few buns from here when I'm passing by the shop but would never purposely buy from here. I know being a bakery you wouldn't expect much service but some ladies that work there are rude and seem unhappy to work there.<br/><br/>One time I purchased their egg tarts at night before they closed because they have their leftover buns and pastries on for 20%. I love egg tarts and saw a box with puff pastry crust. I assumed all 6 inside were puff pastry crusts but i was wrong. Apparently they have mixed regular and puff pastry puffs inside. Not that big of a deal but they should inform the customers that in the box wasn't all puff pastry crusts.<br/><br/>A week later, I asked one of the girls working there if all 6 egg tarts have the same crusts inside the boxes they were clearing out and she said yes, we never mix them. I told her the ones i got last time wasn't and she gave me an attitude and grabbed one of the boxes and started to look through each of them and said to me "see, they are all the same"<br/>WOW, i felt like they were accusing me of lying. She had a bad attitude on her face and the way she talked to me was rude. <br/>Why would I want to purchase from a bakery that has bad attitude and expensive priced buns and pastries.

Pineapple buns all the way!. My go-to place for Chinese bakery items! This place smells so yummy!! They are pretty consistent for some standby items like pineapple buns, egg tarts, sponge cake and the sweet buns. Most items are around $1 each. I love their pineapple buns - great texture, moist with a great topping! The sponge cake here is quite dense and buttery - I liked it but it tasted a little different than the other sponge cakes I've had. The egg tarts are delicious when they are fresh, unfortunately they didn't taste that great a day after a flight home to Winnipeg. :-( I like the specials like 6 small pineapple buns for $2.80.<br/><br/>They open at 10 am but many of the items don't roll out until a bit past 11 am. Staff are fast and efficient because it's quite busy here so don't think too long about what you want to pick behind the counter. LOL. <br/><br/>Located on the main level of Aberdeen Mall so you get free parking while you pick up the goodies!

Amazing aroma. You will be drawn towards this bakery by its irresistable aroma but rest assured, your tastebuds will not be disappointed. Even a slice of their plain bread is wonderful. I recommend the croissants.

It’s okay to splurge once in a while.  Chocolate cake from Saint Germain. Surprise that this little piece is delicious. A combination of fudgy chocolate mousse on the top, moist cakey in the middle and crispy hazelnut crust at the base. These elements work out well with a good balance of chocolatey, nutty and crunch. Rich and moist without the overindulgence of chocolate. I loved its appearance of simplicity with complexity built-in with it.

Your typical neighbourhood HK style bakery. The items here are all generic, but taste pretty standard for what you'd expect.

...Vanilla Dream Cake...not bad, we got it cause it looked like a loaf of bread :); it's actually a loaf of sponge cake w a column of cream in the middle; sponge cake was actually quite fluffy and the cream wasn't bad either.

The crust is perfectly melt in your mouth with a delicious egg tart filling. The filling is not too sweet and has a very smooth texture. I was lucky these are fresh and still warm!

My favourites so far are coffee, chocolate, and pistachio. They had full flavours. The different creams on the inside were also great with a rich and dense flavour. The strawberry, lemon, and hazelnut were okay. I did not quite like the strawberry jam as it is nothing new. I could not figure out exactly what the lemon filling was but lemon to me should be light and refreshing. This was just a bit too heavy for me. The hazelnut did not have a very distinct flavour. It is hazelnut after all. It was good but nothing special.<br/>

I love almost all French pastries especially macarons. I frequently treat myself to these cute, tiny, sweet cookies. To get my macaron fix I frequently get them at Saint Germain Bakery, which might sound a bit strange since they are Chinese bakery. Surprisingly this place makes a decent macaron and for a decent price! For $11 you can get a pack of 12 or 1 for $1.05. These prices being very reasonable when compared to other places in Vancouver like Thierry where a macaron can cost $2.50 each. Mind you that these don’t come in as nice as a box as Thierry.

After watching too much Gossip Girl, I decided I really need to try macaroons. Blair Waldorf loves her macaroons. Thus, I bought a box from Saint Germain Bakery at Aberdeen Centre. $11/box of 12, or $1.05/1. After eating a couple, sharing with my mom, then I realized I haven't snapped a picture yet! It is a bit sweet, but I love eating sweets so it didn't matter. I really liked the lemon one! Zesty and sweet, I'm a sucker for citrus-y desserts. Pistachio (green) was really good too! Didn't expect it since I'm not too sure how pistachio flavoured anything tastes like. Not a fan of the chocolate one, as I never really liked chocolate flavoured desserts, for some odd reason. (The chocolate one is not the in the picture since me and my friend ate them before hand. ) It was the sweetest one, but it had a weird sweet aftertaste. I gave the coffee ones to my mom and her coworker, and they both enjoyed it. I probably have to buy a single coffee flavoured one next time so I know how it tastes l

I enjoy eating every bite of this bun!

Saint Germain’s is the most popular gourmet Chinese bakery around town. They offer a selection of Chinese baked goods and even some American and French pastries. However their versions of American/European desserts still somewhat made with a Chinese style

The strawberry was as good as I remembered. Above is hazelnut. It was better than I expected. I also tried chocolate but again it was a bit too sweet for me. It had good chocolate flavor though. On the box it says that it has 64% chocolate.

There are buns like this all over the Richmond, part of a variety of baked goods. In the Aberdeen Centre, and elsewhere through the area, you’ll find Saint Germain Bakery (right). It seems to be Chinese with Japanese influence, and my partner (who’s Japanese) couldn’t resist the mont blanc. It looked a little different than the typical one, but chestnut is chestnut, and she just had to give it a try—faster than I could take a photo of it. Verdict: ma-ma hu-hu (so-so).

March is the start of birthday celebration in my family. Four consecutive months, someone in the family will celebrate his/her birthday. For the March birthday, we decided to get a cake from Saint Germain Bakery in Aberdeen Mall since we had lunch earlier at Ninkazu Japanese Restaurant in the small strip mall across Aberdeen Mall. Parking at the small strip mall is always impossible as it is where Lido , Excellent Tofu and Snacks and Cafe de Waruku is located. We actually had to park in Aberdeen Mall and walked over to have lunch before we return to the mall to get the cake. Saint Germain Bakery has a good selection of cakes from cheesecake, tiramisu, fruit cake, mouse cake, etc. You can buy a whole cake or buy in slices. The birthday person picked a Chestnut Cake after a long look at the choices. A 6″ cake costs … $22. We bought the smaller cake because there is only 3 persons at home as Ben is out of the country. Moreover, one the kid said he does'nt like this cake and wont eat i
