Review Man Ri Sung - Richmond

The restaurant was very clean and the ambience was a very "chill" one! The lighting was on the darker side, but it did add to the modern atmosphere of the restaurant! The servers were very friendly and kept checking up on us while we ate. The food was very delicious, although it was on the pricier side of things! My friends and I got the Royal Marinated Galbi, Herb Pork Belly, and the Seafood Pancake. The serving sizes are relatively big (especially the seafood pancake) and when you order food, it comes with many side dishes; you will definitely be full!

Had lots to eat, but was so hungry that I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of the food before we feasted. I did however get a chance to snap a picture of the pork bone soup which was amazing!! Would come again but for a special occasion or with more friends - definitely on the more expensive side of KBBQ. BUT regardless, still amazingly delicious 😍

Super attentive and great service. The food was great and many sides. Got the beef tongue and pork galbi and saam set. Perfect for two people.

Went for lunch and it was okay. Not overly mind blowing but not terrible either. Whelmingly meets expectations so don’t expect an above and beyond quality or service. Would go back if we were in the area and there were no other options.

Everything here was delicious. The quality of the meat was great. The soft tofu soup was delicious. Sura is on the pricier side but everything is amazing including the service. They also have an amazing lunch deal. Their seafood pancake is a must try.

Food was delicious. The pork bone soup and rice cakes were really good. It was a bit disappointing because I heard good things about the lunch set. we came for the lunch set, but it was unavailable with no news on when it would return.

Not the same "Sura" as we know in Richmond, this one is "more Korean". The food is quite authentic, sauce is great, and doenjang jjigae tastes delicious, while the beef soup is a bit less tasty. Price is fair compare with the one in Richmond.

They adhere to a strict limit of 1.5 hours even though there were empty tables. The food was decent…nothing to rave about. I miss their lunch special.

Terrible service. i came here for lunch with a group of friends and an elementary Japanese exchange student who had just arrived to Vancouver a few days ago. We all paid our own portions including tips which we all had paid either 10% or 15% of each of our meals. When it got to our Japanese friend who barely spoke english, he paid what was on the receipt and the cashier said loudly, "tips, you haven't paid tips yet" and gave the him his receipt back. i replied that he didn't know because he's from Japan and they don't give tips and besides, it is not mandatory here. Since some of us paid 15% tips, we definitely covered his portion as a whole group. HOWEVER, when it got to our last two friends who haven't paid yet. she told them that one of us paid 1 less dollar and that they had to pay for it. When they asked to see the receipt, the cashier refused to show them and kept asking them to pay the one dollar. By then, most of us had already walked away so we didn't know what was going on with our two friends. We later found out that the cashier sneakily forced our two friends to pay our Japanese friend's portion of tips by misleading our two friends and were very upset about it. <br/><br/>We didn't mind paying the tips but we were VERY upset that the cashier would use such a way to force us to pay back the one dollar of tips when we had ALREADY overtipped them.

Came here for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly. The staff is friendly and polite. I tried the kimchi fried rice from the lunch menu. It was quite flavorful, with a reasonable spiciness. The portion is also quite large that I could not finish.

Service- First of all, it was very strange to see peking duck on the menu of a korean restaurant since its not authentic at all. A couple minutes after looking at the menu, the "chef" or owner rather, constantly tries to sell us the peking duck combo even after telling him we can't finish the whole duck. We wanted to try some of everything and were looking for something more traditional. <br/> Our food comes out all at once, the owner keeps on trying to cook all of our pork belly at once with the biggest flame possible when we say we want to eat things slowly and savour the food. He was probably more interested in saving gas money and kicking us out. <br/>Food- We ordered the pork belly: it was sliced thickly, heavily marinated and had a "soap like" taste. This place's dishes were surprisingly good. We ordered the BBQ dinner for two - with pork belly and cumin duck. Only $50 in total and you get lots of meat, some veggies, 4 side dishes, a soup and a bowl of rice. And everything tastes very good. We like the cumin duck particularly. Will recommend our friends to go with us so we can try other dishes.

<br/>First time here. Decided to try this place since the food court was packed. Waitress came with a dish that wasn't even ours and we didn't even order yet. Seems like she didn't know what she was doing. Things were going pretty slow. The waiter took our order. He was a better server (fast and efficient). Then the waitress came back 30 mins later to ask us if we were ready to order. I was like "seriously"? Just when she asked, our waiter came with our food. <br/><br/>I ordered the kimchi tofu soup. It was sour!!! Not sure if they put in the wrong type of kimchi, which was supposed to go into the kimchi fried rice that my husband ordered. I make better tofu soup. This was terrible! No going back there again.

Man Ri Sung, they used to be in another location. moving all the time it seems. This time in Aberdeen mall on the top floor. It was my girlfriends birthday, We wanted to eat at Sura, but Sura said no, we won't accommodate you for that large of a party. While at Man Ri Sung no one wanted to order anything as it was the birthday girls choice. We picked out a set menu and added 6 more dishes, totaling 11 dishes. After getting a wack load of dishes and all said and done, the bill was only $18.00 a person which wasn't too bad consider everyone was so stuffed full and had leftovers. They were closing and when we were about to leave a group member said where is the birthday cake? That triggered the mind and remembered that they never brought out the seafood pancake. (Earlier when we first arrived and ordered, they had brought one to our table but 2 seconds later, took it away and gave it to the table beside ours). Happy Birthday!

Came here for my birthday since Sura Korean BBQ downstairs would not take us party of 18. We ordered a 6 person meal combo which includes peking duck, duck hotpot, pan fried potato noodles, pajeon (seafood pancake), and BBQ LA ribs plus 6 additional dishes which are bibimbap, sweet and sour pork, spicy backbone hotpot, pan fried squid, rice cake skewers, and beef chow mein. Did we ever have so much food! 18 of us and we couldn't even finish all the good, everyone was overly full. What's even better was our bill, it only came down to $18 (that's like $1 per person) with tips and tax split evenly among everyone. That is pretty cheap considering it is Korean food. They forgot our pajeon and made it for us at the end. I think it was meant to be as everyone used to time to sing me a birthday song since it is a pan"cake.". At the end of the night, I had fun.

It has been pretty good the last few times I have eaten there however I don't know Korean cuisine that well. Plates I liked were the seafood pancake, less heavy and powdery tasting than kyung bok palace, their style of Peking duck was alright as well.<br/><br/>Flavours taste relatively clean

I was invited here for a ChineseBites media dinner to sample several of the chef’s signature dishes. What did I order?. Peking duck is their signature menu item that the chef is very proud of. He came out and carved the duck for us. This version was quite meaty and very tender, which I liked because some versions of peking duck have much smaller slices of meat.

We celebrated my aunt’s birthday dinner at Man Ri Sung. Located on the 3rd floor of Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, it’s a Korean restaurant with Chinese influence. The food had elements of both cuisines which I thought was pretty interesting. Man Ri Sung Korean Restaurant. They provide several duck set courses so we ordered two sets of the Duck for 4 people. Each set includes 4 side dishes, 1 peking duck with 20 pieces of wrap, one of either boiled dumplings or pan-fried potato noodles or rice sausage, and one of either the duck hot pot with cut noodles or duck congee. Since we got 2 of the same set, we ordered one duck congee and one duck hot pot and for the other dish, we just ordered 2 of the pan-fried potato noodles since that seemed more filling for all of us.

This is a pretty small restaurant, in a somewhat rundown complex across from Richmond Public Market, but the food here is pretty legit and good on pricing. I would love to come back with a larger group to try the duck feasts, along with their bigger hot pots. Not to say that Momo and I don’t already eat enough for two people, but then I wouldn’t need to roll out the door once I’m finished.

So my girlfriends were planning a get together and couldn’t decide where to eat. One of them mentioned a Korean restaurant that does Peking Duck, and upon hearing that I announced that we have to go – it can’t be good! So we all agreed. Man Ri Sung Korean Restaurant – 萬里城

My family and I found an advertisement in the local paper about this Man Ri Sung Restaurant in Aberdeen. It was originally on Westminster and in a much smaller location. I guess business was good so now they moved to a bigger and better spot. They specialize in peking duck and Korean food. It's kind of a weird mix but I have an inkling it's because the chef is Chinese and he married a Korean wife.  They have some set menus for 4 (which we got) and 8 people which are great because the planning is already done for you. Both set menus include peking duck and a variety of different dishes. For $75.95 (the 4 people set menu), we got a whole duck slicked up and ready for peking duck wrapping goodness, duck hot pot (with homemade knife cut noodles), and a choice of Japchae, blood sausage, or potstickers. We went with the Japchae. Some banchans (Korean side dishes) for good measure. They had bean sprouts, kimchi, pickled radishes, and sweet potatoes.  My whole family was impressed by the quality of the BBQ duck. The skin was extremely crispy and the meat was juicy. Furthermore, the famous Chef (his pic is on the menu) personally came to take our order and ask us how it was throughout the meal. I saw him do that with a couple of other tables too. It's nice to see a Chef or store owner take the time to know his customers and ask for feedback. That is what truly separates entrepreneurs who put their heart and soul into their business and the 'investors' or business owners that just do it for pure profit. For peking duck virgins, this is how you make your wrap. You take a piece of 'crepe' or chinese pancake, put hoisin sauce on it, add the green onion and julienne cucumber, and top it with duck skin/meat. Wrap it up and you're good to go!  The japchae was flavourful and had enough veggies and mushrooms to fill me up before the hot pot arrived. Worst service I have ever experienced.. Was in Richmond for a day and decided to check this joint out with my fiance. We got seated at a 2 seat table in the back. Well, I wish we got to try the food to express how much it sucked, but I can't cause we never even got served. We waited 30 minutes and all we got was some tea, or what appeared to be hot water. Wow. Will never go back to this joint again.

It recently moved to the third floor of Aberdeen Mall and is famous for their peking duck. I believe it is run by Koreans, but they seem to cater to the Chinese. Looking through the menu, there are quite a few dishes that lean towards the Chinese cuisine. The interior is quite spacious with many tables. It’s great for large groups, and each table has the grill set up on the table in case you order bbq items. Banchan Dinner started with complimentary banchan , which included kimchi, marinated radish, marinated bean sprouts and sweet potatoes. These were just average, with the kimchi being probably the best as it was just the right amount of spice and sourness for me. The sweet potatoes were underwhelming. The sauce wasn’t that great compared to other restaurants. Seemed a bit watery. Pan Fried Potato Noodles Anyways, we didn’t get their famous peking duck, since you need to pre-order and it was just S and I eating. S chose the Pan Fried Potato Noodles in a small size, and it was quite a huge plate. I think he only ended up finishing half of it. The potato noodles were quite underwhelming. They were not very flavourful and I’ve definitely had better. It also seemed like they lacked beef in the dish. Short Beef Rib Soup For myself, I had the Short Beef Rib Soup . I found the beef short ribs to be overcooked so the meat was quite chewy. The soup itself was pretty good, although it lacked depth in flavour. I ended up dipping my kimchi in to give it some spice and flavour. This was just average. Overall, Man Ri Sung was quite average based on the dishes we tried. Korean food can be quite pricey, but I think some of their items seem to be quite reasonably priced for the portion sizes. I am Korean...who is always craving for Really good Korean food around my place.<br/>When I found this place I was so happy that i finally dine out for good quality Korean food with good service. <br/>(Other places,, expensive...cannot really satisfied with taste...I rather cook by myself....even that's sometimes better!;;)<br/><br/>I highly recommend Dumpling Soup :) & Sam Gye Tang (Chicken soup?)<br/>I think they barely use MSG... Go for the Soup Avoid the Duck. Since Man Ri Sung recently opened we dined there twice. On our first trip we stuck to the more typical Korean dishes of kimchi jjigae (kimchi soup), maeuntang (fish soup), and haemul pajeon (seafood pancake). The soups were OK. Though they could have been more spicy. The pancake was horrible. The only seafood in the pancake was octopus tentacles and they were like eating rubber bands and the bottom of the pancake black and it had a charred taste. As there is not much competition in the area for Korean food I may go there again for the soup. On our second visit we ordered the duck. Man Ri Sung advertises itself as Quanjude style duck. Quanjude is a famous beijing tourist restaurant which serves duck. (Not the best by a longshot in Beijing IMHO but I digress) This duck tasted nothing like Beijing duck and suffered from dry flesh and lack of crispy skin. Beijing duck skin should shatter. This one was chewy and not in a Star Wars kind of way. The meat was dried out too. Had better duck locally at many other places like Kirin, Imperial, and even Sun Sui Wah. They serve a choice of duck soup or duck congee after the roast duck. We opted for the duck soup with cutting noodles which was pretty good. I actually liked the rich flavor of the duck broth and the texture of the noodles. Overall I may be back again but only for the Korean soups or stews as there are no other Korean restaurants in the area. It doesn't compare all that well to the Korean places in Coquitlam or Vancouver.

The service was okay. The food was extremely disappointing and the pan fried potato noodles were horrible. Some dishes were over salted and some were plain.

To be honest, I was a little skeptical about this place. When I first heard about the Korean Peking Duck, I thought it was just a Chinese restaurant masquerading as a Korean restaurant. I was wrong and was surprised how decent the food turned out to be.

Man Ri Sung is known for their Korean version of peking duck, which I unfortunately didn't get to try, because you need at least 4+ people, and you have to call in 2 hours beforehand for a reservation! Man Ri Sung is indeed run by Koreans, but they hired a few Mandarin speaking waitresses to cater towards the large chinese population in Richmond! Banchan 2/5 stars   The banchan here was alright. The potatoes weren't that great. They weren't crusted on the outside and the sauce it was sitting in was a bit too watery. The bean sprouts were dressed in a light tasting sesame vinaigrette. Man Ri Sung is really a fantastic little place. The food came fairly quickly (though we did come right before the rush hour hit) and the waitress was pretty attentive to us. And of course, it was delicious, so what more could you ask for! <br/>

Chef Lee personally came over and took our orders. We reserved the “duck for 4 people” ($58.95) which features a Peking Duck, a choice of boiled dumplings, pan-fried potato noodles or Rice Sausage and a further choice of a duck hot pot with wheat flakes or a duck gruel. On Chef Lee’s recommendation, we went with the pan-fried potato noodles and the duck gruel.

Overall, not a bad meal but not one I would crave for or feel the need to have again. Except, maybe for the seafood pancake.

When I first heard that Man Ri Sung was closed, I was disappointed. You see about almost 2 years ago, I discovered this restaurant and that they had really cheap/great lunch combos. Later on, I went on to discover their new duck fest (blogged here), which really made an impression. So when Chowtimes blogged about spotting the new Man Ri Sung restaurant opening up in Richmond, I was certainly happy.

Man Ri Sung is well known for their Duck Feast. When they were in Coquitlam, they had the duck feast for just $50 and that is good enough for … 4 or 5 people. So it was such a great deal then. That was two years ago. Today it is $59 which is not too bad.
