Review Gang Nam Korean Bbq - Richmond

The quality of meat here is very good. Well marinaded and tender. The service is fantastic and friendly. We usually end up ordering one of the BBQ dinner combos. There's a lot of good food. For 2 people, we end up usually ordering combo I or J which comes with 3 meats, Pajeon or Japchae and a stone bowl. Lots of food. It's one of our go to places. Enjoy!

The entrance of the restaurant is on the hazelbridge. There are not many tables. It is recommended to book in advance. The server are friendly and the meals are of a certain standard. The disadvantage is that the exhaust equipment in the restaurant is not very good and the smell of oil smoke is relatively heavy.

This place was surprisingly tasty and Kelly was so friendly! Best bbq place in Richmond! I ate 2 days in a roll!

We called to reserve a table around 5pm. we arrived early and they gladly let us in 10mins before our reservation time. When we got there there’s only 1 group seated far from our right. The place is small but not crowded. We ordered 2 dinner Combo B (if i remember it has 2 pork and 2 beef), it comes with two bowls of rice and a hot pot. The side dishes are so good too. The meal was about 72cad and it’s just perfect for two average eaters. Everything was good and we’ll definitely come back to try other meat cuts! :)

We got two BBQ combos, one that came with panjeon and bibimbap and the other with a gamjatang. They're great options to try different cuts of meat and other side dishes. the combos also give you some options to choose between the different stone bowls, panjeon or japchae, and your hot pot. I'd say the combos can feed 3 average appetites comfortably. We ended up getting the 2 combos for a table of 4 and it was just a bit too much food. You get one free refill of the banchan too. The meat itself was good quality, fresh, and marinated well. Our panjeon was super fluffy and crispy, with plenty of seafood. The bibimbap was good as well. The gamjatang was a bit flat, not enough acidity and spice but still a nice bowl to go with the barbecue. There is a large exhaust over the grills and the staff are attentive and changed our grill once it got crusty. Location was clean and distanced well.

Unique, intimate space, very cosy and comforting. Nice and friendly servers with with delicious condiments that come out as you sit down. Fresh tea flask on the table for your convenience. Food is flavourful. For gluten free foodies, the marinated meats may not be suitable but the soups and hot pots should be :)

I have to say I love the food here and the service has always been amazing for us. My wife came in the first time for an Evansville women’s party and she told me this is where we were going to eat before a Thunderbolts hockey game a few weeks later. I got an amazing beef and rice bowl that I can’t remember the name of, but I’d order it again. The bowl itself was made of stone and super hot, keeping the food hot the whole time I ate it. We were given an assortment of small appetizers including some of the best kimchi I’ve ever had and an eggplant dish that is apparently also a full meal on the menu. Last night before the hockey game I came in for just a beer. The gentleman next to me at the bar was cooking thinly sliced steak on a hot rock and enjoying some chicken wings. He insisted that I try both. Bar people are just awesome that way. I was blown away. The steak had flavor I had never experienced before. Mouth watering. The chicken wings are out of this world. I came back after the hockey game and ordered up chicken wings for myself, then insisted the people next to me try those chicken wings also. These wings must be the best chicken wings in all of Evansville. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

My husband and I had high hopes for this place after having lived in Korea for a few years unfortunately we were extremely displeased and will not be returning. We looked at a menu online before arriving and the dish we saw online that we wanted they don't even serve there. Our server seemed uneducated about the menu. We ended up paying $25 for the amount of meat equivalent to a 6 piece chicken nugget meal and we couldn't even get lettuce to wrap it in. The atmosphere was disappointing too it still looks like the bar that was there before.

We were so happy to discover this hidden gem last night before the concert. I ordered the Wow Roll and my boyfriend ordered the Saturday Night Fever. These were so amazing that I had to order a third, the Cha-Cha, which was even better! The drinks were fantastic as well, and these guys gave us exceptional service during a hectic rush before the show. I will be a regular visitor here because there is so much more I want to try on their extensive menu. I cannot recommend this place enough!

This place is really unique. It was my first time here. I really enjoyed the Fried Rice. The best I have ever had. Even got to drink my first Korean drink. The staff was nice and friendly. I will definitely be returning with more friends!!

Went last night before the Elton John concert at the ford Center. We had 6 In our party and when we went in the hostess asked us what time our concert was. (We arrived at the ford center early, being from out of town we were unsure about parking and didn’t want to try to find it in the dark. So we arrived at 5:30 with the plans to eat somewhere nearby.). We told her that the concert was at 8 and her response was “Are you going to sit here until then”. We told her no we were going to eat and leave. So she sat us at one of the big tables(which was the best part of the night). A few minutes later she brought us 3 menus and asked us to share. That wasn’t an issue because we didn’t see a server for about 30 minutes and that is after we stopped Someone and asked to be served. He was very nice and took our order. By this time it was going on 6 or so. We didn’t receive our food until almost 7pm. And then one of the people in our group waited anothe 5 minutes on hers. We asked the waiter about it and he said he would check on it. A few minutes later a girl swooped in dropped the bowl on the end of the table and left as fast as she came. We ate and had to flag down the server again to get our checks. We walked out of the restaurant at 7:25pm. So in the end we were there until the concert started but we would have loved to have been gone earlier. 2 hours for fried rice dishes is crazy. The food was good but the service is extremely lacking. If we would have had anywhere else to go we would have left. Oh and one person in the group ordered sushi and it never did get delivered. We had to tell the server to cancel it because we were out of time. He made the comment that you had not been that busy since opening night. I live 5 hours away so the likelyhood I am ever in town again is slim but I think it could be a great restaurant if you get it all together. Oh and all of the lights and spinning lights from the ceiling made me think of a strip club.

Absolutely the best place I've been to. The service was absolutely great. The food was seriously amazing. I will definitely be coming back. And I asked for them to play BTS and they did at my request. Great customer service!
Niall Nance-Carroll
Fantastic food! The atmosphere and service were great and we were thrilled with the wonderful flavor, high quality, and the reasonable prices. I can't wait to come back and try even more from their menu!
Clarissa Camp
Highly recommend! Order "The Ford Center" off the Sushi menu. Atmosphere is inviting and chic. Booths are huge to accommodate large groups! And the owner is so very sweet.

I have NEVER been disappointed in the food at either location. The worst thing I can say about this restaurant in all fairness is that at times the wait staff hasn't been as on point as I would like BUT that is the case in EVERY establishment food or nonfood I have ever visited so that's human nature. I adore the sushi and I love the culture and I can taste the love that is put into every authentic dish and I have almost had them all. Highly recommended.
Jenny Goodwin
We absolutely loved it!! We love the atmosphere and the food was delicious. The waiter Ben was fun too. He even saved my leftover box for me when I walked out without it! We will be back!! I highly recommend it for sure!!
Judy Huber Peters
Food was great, our waiter was very friendly and helpful. I have never had kimchi before and it was really good! We will definitely go back and try all the different foods.

I went last night before a concert. We sat for a solid 30 minutes (after asking a hostess twice) for a server. It was an good hour before most people had drinks. It took an hour and half I’d say to bring out 1 beer for two people. I ordered food I guess the server flat out didn’t pay attention to me when I know I told him so he could hear when I ordered. The party of 8 people for around 2 hours felt like we got shit on before we had to make it obviously clear we’re leaving you need to bring us our checks, which that was honestly the only thing they did all night with any since of urgency. Also looking around the restaurant, I noticed there was a lot of very upset individuals about their service as well, so it didn’t appear to be a one time thing with us. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE. The food was mediocre, not worth what they put you thru while at this place.

We just celebrated my daughters birthday dinner there tonight. We were all very impressed and enjoyed our evening. The food is awesome! The K-Pop videos were great! Our waiter was very nice and helpful. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!

Great time here. Everyone was friendly and informative. Great menu - something for everyone. The food was excellent & yumalicious. Thanks Joe & staff

The seaweed salad was excellent and I enjoyed a great sushi roll as well. Music was a little loud, but overall a great meal.

My friend and I called to book a table at 6:15 and we got there around 6:26 / 6:27 or so and we told them we reserved a table. Then the girl working there told us “You were late so we gave the table to the next person in line.” She told us we have to line up again from the end which didn’t make sense cause we made a reservation. Even if we were late, shouldn’t we get the table available next at least? Plus we were only late 10-12 minutes. Normal restaurants don’t give your table away like that and make you line up from the end of the line again. The way she worded it was also kind of rude? Not rude... but could have been said in a better way that sounds better to the ear for the customer. They should have at least gave us a call but I don’t think 10min late is a reasonable time period to just give the table away. It was on a Monday night however, so wasn’t as busy so we got a table around 6:45.
Service wasn’t that good... however the food was good. We ordered one of the bbq sets on the beefs tasted really good. While we were eating we didn’t get much service. I wouldn’t say It was bad service while we were eating but just no service. Just bringing the food to our table and that’s it.

well then was planning to go for night market but it was kind of raining and needing to fill up my stomach before splurging on night market for desert and sweet stuff, well this restaurant, there was quite a line up, then, we waited for around 30-40 minutes got our seats, we wasn't in a rush so we took our time, and there keep on getting more people as well. we ordered the combo and some rice, so far, the meat is filled with white pepper, hmmm something different i think it's a one trick pony to get any food better. overall i think it's okay but the white pepper on meat for grill is definitely a different take for me. overall service was good as well despite the crowded restaurant, thumbs up for the server. price wise is definitely pretty high as well 40-50 dollar per person for our table

Good deal and excellent quality Korean Barbecue. For $50-70 you get a heroism portion on meet, 4 small refillable side dishes, seafood pancake or fried potato noodles and the stone bowl rice. And enough food to feed 3 adults.

Gang Nam Korean BBQ is our common go-to restaurant for reasonably priced bbq and for special small family events. For some reasons, Gang Nam Korean BBQ is the only restaurant all members of my family can agree on. We all have different preferences but we can all agree on this restaurant because 1. we all love Korean food, 2. it’s located near home, 3. we all love meat, 4. it’s not too expensive. This time we came to celebrate after my graduation ceremony 🙂

I wish there is a negative score on this!!! This restaurant is totally a piece of shit!!! I called to make a reservation for 7:30 pm and been told it's been booked at that time. It is definitely ok, it's totally understandable the others make the reservation. But the staff there wants everyone's business, they told us on the phone that u can walk in. It's also fine to walk in, we don't mind wait unless we can wait for the table. But when we arrived at that place, the staff told us u need to wait longer because we have reservations for 8pm and 8:30pm. That's bull shit. This one is totally blacklist now, I won't judge their food, but their staffs are insane.

Came here for dinner with friends and they ordered one of the combo meat dinner that comes with seafood pancake. The restaurant is packed and it is located hidden right on Hazelbridge but is located in Empire Center. I thought overall, the food is very average. One of the meat tastes good but the other two meats are bit chewy. The pancake is very disappointing. It is quite thick texture and not as soft or moist as other restaurants. They don't provide spoon for you to pour sauce out and they forget our kimchi. The portion is not that big, not so sure if that's due to my friends eat some before I get there or not. But I leave there feeling hungry so that's not cool. When we ask for more bean sprouts and missing kimchi, the waitress doesn't seem very happy. I find the quality is not that great, very average and the taste is quite ordinary. Not the Korean restaurant I would go to for Korean food.

Terrible service & subpar food quality

Terrible service: It never mentioned in the menu nor in any writing that extra side dishes cost $2 each. Asked for filling up the tea and the server just drop the teapot rudely and giving an annoying face, totally no respect. The grill is hardly changed although it has burnt badly (see attached photo). The attitude of the servers are absolutely bad beyond imagination.

Subpar food quality: The meat is dry and tasteless. It seems the meat has been freeze for a long time and perhaps expired as beef color look dark red and yellowish color for the chicken.

Avoid this place like a plague!
Highly unrecommend this place; the SERVICE SUCKS!

My girlfriends and I were supposed to spend a great evening having dinner together. We heard many people recommended this Korean BBQ place in Richmond, BC. My friend made a reservation for 6pm Sunday night two days in advance.

When I sat alone at the restaurant waiting for my party arriving, the waitress came to tell me that we only got about 1 hour to eat because the next table is reserved for 7:30pm. I was shocked at first; I know it's a bit inappropriate that we had not placed any orders for 20 mins. However, the things is even we had ordered right after we sat down at 6pm, it would only give us 1.5hr to finish our dinner.

I find it ABSURD that for BBQ we only got this little time to eat, not to mention that we wanted to chill and have some beer. The worst part is the waitress showed her mean attitude towards us.
When my friend, who made the reservation got here, she tried to explain that she wasn't notified that we needed to finish our food in 1.5HR when she made the call. The waitress responded harshly by telling her that "IT'S BASIC RULE"..... Does that mean all Korean BBQ only gives their customers 1.5hr to eat? RIDICULOUS.

I will never step into this place again. As far as I know, many people come to this restaurant due to its relatively cheap price. If I had to put up with their bad attitude, I would rather spend more to go to SURA.

The mean waitress is the one with the short hair. Everyone, plz be alert.

They charge $10 for cut the birthday cake. And $2 for each extra "free dish". No spoons with the hot soup. Bad service. I won't go back again.
Every Day Is A Food Day
We ended up ordering one of their BBQ dinner combos which was around $45 and is supposed to fill 2-3 people. It came with 4 meat dishes, a choice of Seafood Pancake or Japchae and a choice of Bibimbop. All their meats were very flavourful since they were well seasoned. You got quite a lot of meat for the price you pay. Our combo also came with Pork Belly and Pork Jowl. Overall, we were extremely happy with Gang Nam Korean BBQ. We were beyond full and could have done with just the combo itself. Prices are quite reasonable, although we had some soju and beer, so it ended up costing over $30 a person. Otherwise, it can be quite reasonable. Service is also quite friendly.

My friends and I reserved a table for four people for dinner. We walked into the restaurant without reservation last time. The restaurant sent us home.

We visited this Korean BBQ restaurant just because this is the best one among all other Korean BBQ restaurants in Richmond.

The service was ok. I couldn't say they were great. The restaurant was busy, so the waitresses took the order and delivered all the food to our table. That was their job. They checked periodically if they had to remove some empty dishes from our table and whether or not we needed to add some side dishes.

We ordered a combo of beef rib eyes, prime rib eye ribs, marinated beef short ribs, seafood bibimbap and seafood pancakes. We ordered a dish of chap jae noodles and steamed dumplings as well. The combo came with a small salad as well as four side dishes. The food was enough for four of us.

The meal per person was a bit pricy at $26.50. However, the food tasted excellent and you were paying for the good quality as well.

Tips:
- must reserve a table
- be prepared that your body/hair and clothes will have a smokey smell
Lilian
Been here twice, both experiences were excellent. Food is good and reasonable priced. Even the side dishes are tasty. Their BBQ sets are highly recommended, enough food for 3-4 people (maybe okay for 4-5 if having more drinks?) Will definitely come back again to try different BBQ sets or tofu soup.

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Price: Avg.$30/person
Return: Every Month!!! Must try item(s): Combo A to F

What a Deal! IF you have a party of 4 to 6 people, and want to try Korean BBQ in Richmond, this is a wonderful place to cheer out all night long. Well. The fact is, if you could eat late and you can probably sit til the restaurant's last order. Therefore, I would recommend to book the table for 8pm if it's okay. Dining time is about 1.5 hours, if you had more than 6people, in my memory, you can sit in longer than that. Every table will receive some complimentary dish to try. Kimchi is my favourite item as always. Last time I ordered the Combo F, and it filled up our stomaches perfectly.

Follow me if you liked my Food Research :D

The bbq short ribs and beef sashimi were both fresh and tasty. I mean.. we waited for 30+ minutes so it'd better be good :).. Pretty authentic, decent quality and affordable prices. I would return for the beef sashimi (can't find good ones in metro van) but not for the general food items.

Dinner after our skydiving adventures at Gang Nam, the Korean BBQ joint that took over for Maruchu – a Japanese BBQ restaurant. We found the name to be rather amusing, as at the time Gangnam Style was a major hit. The decor and grills were still the same as when it was Maruchu, minus the happy wife and husband duo. Pricing on the menu was rather expensive, though given the fact that most Korean BBQ are if you were to order à la carte.
Joe
I went to Gang Nam for the first time and the food was really good especially the pork but the service was horrible we came in 5 minutes late then the server was like "you guys are a little bit early so I'm just gonna let you guys wait until we have a table" and that wasn't the worse thing, the worst thing was we had an reservation!!
Clay
Place was awesome! There was 5 of us so we ordered two combos and some dumplings which was tons of food. Ended up being about 40 bucks each with beer. Don't know why everyone's complaining about small dish refills. Two rounds of those was enough. Maybe if you're in a larger group that's understandable. Anyways everything was awesome including our server.

Great value BBQ combos but limited banchan refills!. This restaurant has great value BBQ combos priced at $40 to $50 that would serve 3-4ppl and comes with japchae/seafood pancake AND bibimbap. We also enjoyed the quality of the BBQ meat served especially the beef shortribs. However, the downside to this restaurant is that despite the number of people at a table, they only provide you with 4 banchan appetizers and you can only have a free refill once! This is a little stingy on the restaurant's part as a 2 people table verus 6+ table get the same around of banchans.
Sam-
Only 2 refills on side dishes wow. This used to be my go to Korean BBQ place. I went back after 3 months of not eating here and wow what happened to the service? I've been to many Korean places before and refills on kimchi has never been a problem. My past experiences with gang nam were great no limitations on kimchi refills, but today they said we only get two refills on kimchi. We asked the server for more kimchi and she said sure then the lady (I'm assuming the owner) stopped her and made her come out to tell us that we would have to be charged for extra kimchi ... Like we ordered a lot of food it's not like we just ordered one or two things.. I will never come back and it's sad to say even kyung bok palace has no problem refilling kimchi after 2 refills.
Kevin
Food was good, service was good before. However, we were asked to leave "in 21 minutes" because some customers were waiting for a table. That was RIDICULOUS!

Beef~. The beef tongue is really really good! Will come back with frds next time :-P

Not worth it. I've never been to a Korean restaurant where they charge for side dishes. $2 plate of kimchi? no thanks. The meat is frozen. The seafood pancake is thick and gross. The bibimbap isn't hot enough to crisp the rice. The price isn't cheap either.

Terrible way to do business. Do not believe the "takes reservations" line. My brother and his girlfriend were up from Seattle, with the plan of going for Korean BBQ. My dad, son and friend joining us. Gang Nam had an excellent rating so they seemed the best choice. The restaurant was not open when I called so I left a message requesting a reservation for 6 at 6pm on a Saturday night. Twice. I never received a call back. Frustrated, as we could not find another place which did actual BBQ, I called the restaurant again on the same Saturday and was told we could not get in until 8:30 and no they did not get my message as they very rarely check the message machine. I will recommend everyone stay away from a place which conducts business in such a manner. Disgusted

So yummy...will visit again!

Very Good. I came here twice and both experience was good, great food, very tasty. The cost wasn't too expensive but the place was kinda small, is not good for large group dinners/gatherings

Great Korean BBQ. Good service. Nice restaurant.

Good place to try korean barbeque. I could not find any good BBQ place in vancouver, but this place was pretty decent, pretty good atmospher. Try there! :)

Terrific! 4 adults can eat great quality meat for between $40-$50! The vegetable side dishes are constantly refilled, the service is great and staff is very friendly! I wish them the best of luck.

Best Korean BBQ in town. If you want good korean B.B.Q food with excellent service, this is where you should go. We've been going Gang Nam B.B.Q since first opened.Good food cozy atmosphere and very reasonable price!! Love it!!

Poor Service with Bland Food. It was our first time here and it wasn't very busy since only 2 tables were occupied. There were 7 of us. Five of us ordered five meals. The menu stated that each meal would come with 3 side dishes and a bowl of rice. We were told that we could be only given 4 side dishes to share and only 1 refill of side dishes is allowed. That means we could only get 8 side dishes when we thought we would be given 15 side dishes for the five meals that we ordered. After that, $1.00 will be charged for each dish. Ok. This is the only Korean restaurant we know of that actually charged customers for side dishes. We were given only half glass of water to start our meals with. They came by to check our tables twice without asking us if everything is ok and did not attempt to fill our empty glasses.

The seafood tofu hot pot is very bland. The cold buckwheat noodles are quite chewy and bland. The only good thing we have to say about this place is the bibimbop (that actually had some taste to it.)

Small portion food that are overpriced and bland, bad service, false advertisement on the menu completely ruined our appetites for the evening. Sad as it is, we will never set another foot in this restaurant again.

We shouldn't even leave them any tips but out of usual dining courtesy, we gave them 10% tips.

We really enjoyed our Korean Bbq night out. Satisfied cravings. The side dishes were appetizing. The bibimbap and pancake very authentic and delicious. The bbq were mouthwatering and yummy. Staffs were very nice and friendly. The restaurant is not that big so i suggest you do reservation. I am pretty sure we will come back for more. Located at Richmond.

After spending two hours stuck in traffic coming from White Rock because only one lane was open on HWY 99, we finally made it to Gang Nam in Richmond. When Gang Nam first opened, I laughed it off and assumed the restaurant chose their name based on the popular music video at the time "Gangnam Style", rather than after the city in Korea. However, after seeing a few photos on Instagram and Eating with Kirby's blog post, I had to make the visit. The quality and value looked definitely there. Before turning the corner to get to Gang Nam, we could already smell the barbecue from outside. The barbecue aroma was very strong (which is not bad) and we secretly hoped to be seated by the open front door. After waiting literally only five minutes, a friendly waitress seated us and apologized for the wait. Wow, she did not even need to apologize and so far Gang Nam has the friendliest service out of many Korean restaurants. The main reason that lured me in to visit Gang Nam is because I assumed the

My mom was really pleased when we walked in! The decor is very cute and its quite clean inside. We got a really great, private table. The restaurant seems to be L-shaped so we got the “leg” of the L all to ourselves. It’s probably the best table of the house. My only compliant is that the bench was so far away from the table! Its a little awkward to eat, especially if we were doing Korean BBQ.

The famous song “Gang Nam Style” is definitely not our cup of tea. However, this Gang Nam Korean restaurant is really impressive. Four side dishes and a salad comes with the BBQ. Since it’s their grand opening, there is a Kimchi Pork Tofu on the house. Tastes not bad. We finished it at the end even with a full stomach. Pork Jowl Boneless beef short rib with green onion Nothing could go wrong with the two. The short rib is well marinated. Super yummy!!!! Beef tongue with salt Nice but pretty easy to over cooked>< Chicken galbi Delicious but the size is super small!! > < Bulgogi bibimbop hot stone bowl of rice topped with stir fried beef Not bad…but tastes like something missing…maybe the egg? Sauces. The self is very new and clean. The waitress changed them very often:) The ingredients are very fresh. The quality is good and is reasonably priced. We like it:D Recommended~ Gang Nam Korean BBQ (604) 214-3770 2065-4580 No 3 Rd Richmond, BC

Gang Nam BBQ is a new Korean restaurant that just opened in Richmond. I know what you're thinking... it's not Gangnam (like Gangnam Style or Gangnam - the Korean district), it's just Gang Nam. :P Their banchans included kimchi, seaweed, house salad, tofu, and sweet potatoes. They also served some lettuce on the side so I got super excited thinking these were unlimited! Little did I know, that was not the case. You apparently only

I had meant to bring the boys to Gang Nam Korean BBQ on mother’s day. The address of this restaurant is 2065-4580 No. 3 Road. It has to be somewhere in Empire Center. We simply cannot locate the restaurant. So, we tried again on the next weekend. We still cant find it in the Empire Center area. We even asked the parking attendant and he has no idea. We decided to look for another place instead. On the way out of Empire Center via Hazelbridge Way, we finally saw the restaurant. Apparently, the entrance of the restaurant is actually facing Hazelbridge Way. But the building that the restaurant occupies is part of the strip mall of Empire Center. I confirmed with the server that parking is at the Empire Center parking lot which is usually very busy. High back benches serve as partition for some privacy. Nanzaro ordered a Spicy Pork Bibimbap from the lunch special for $8.95. You can click on the menu to have a larger view. The Bibimbap was served in a hot stone bowl. Nanzaro enjoyed it as h
