Review R & H Chinese Food - Richmond

If you’re looking for affordable fast food, this place is worth checking out. Both the noodle soups and the soup dumplings were amazing. The line ups get a bit long but their service is quick.

I frequently come here for lunch and dinner. They’re dumplings and soups are absolutely delicious for a fair price. They are quite popular within that cafeteria. It’s all freshly made by two lovely ladies at the front. You can even watch them make the dumplings by hand - it’s as if their hands work 24/7 each day I’m there!

We were sooo hungry and wanted some easy quick food as we had to get to a meeting in an hour so we stopped at this mall for the first time and after going through a few reviews we ordered the beef rolls and the grilled pork dumplings with chives. I asked them to make both of them spicy but they said they can’t do that..lol So I asked if they had chilli oil and they said yes so I went ahead with the order cuz I knew I could use the chilli oil. The food took 10-15 mins to get ready as this place had quite a few orders. The beef rolls is a SCAM! The beef to the fried flour bread is pathetic. You are literally eating layers of rolled up fried flour bread with barely any meat! They have such thin slices of beef and I think they put them in a single line and roll them up which is why you get such less meat and 90% flour fried bread!!!! The meat is on the sweet side..apparently bbq! Now the pork dumplings is another story altogether. It is super yum!!! Juicy and flavorful with a good amount of Pork. Thank God right! Oh and by the way .. both of the dishes cost around $10 bucks each. I think if ur gonna order from here just get the dumplings cuz u will actually get what ur supposed to or maybe the scallions pancake cuz they wouldn’t need to skim on the meat cuz it’s supposed to be only scallions and no meat! Phew!

5 stars for food quality and selection! Highly recommended. Service is friendly but a far cry from fast. It's understood that it's fresh to order so it'll take some time, we appreciate that, so a 10-15 minute wait makes sense, but when you make people wait 30 minutes for whatever reason, this needs to be fixed. So although I highly recommend this place for the food experience, just beware of the long wait times, hopefully the owner can fix this, was it would be a 5 star establishment, and a gem to have in Richmond! Great XLB and grilled buns, as well as noodles and everything else!

I'm visiting from Toronto and looked up where I could get some soup dumplings. They were definitely very yummy! Also got some fried pork dumplings with chives. It can get pretty busy especially during lunch so prepare to wait.

Really good food. The XLB were so JUICY! The onion pancake and the beef noodle were also good. I think they should get more staff though because the cashier was really stressed and kind of rude.

Surprisingly discovered this through regularly watching strictly dumpling on youtube a few years ago, so thank you Mike! This place has now been in my top 5 go to places ever since. 😅 The 3 items I usually order are xiao long bao - perfect balance of the wrapper, not too thick or thin and packs quite a bit of soup. chinese burger - good spices, not too strong and bread has a good chew to it, would definitely add spicy flavor to enhance. scallion pancakes - good serving size for it's price, its filling and flavorful. But i would definitely recommend the boiled dumplings! They're like a meatier mini xiao long bao!

Everything is delicious, I’ve never been disappointed with the quality and it’s nice to see the dumplings being made fresh in front of you.

R&H is situated inside the Landsdowne mall.

Freshly made dumplings and buns are their signature selections. The flavour is well balanced and buns are well prepared.

Plenty of seating is available in the food court area.

Today we were traveling around Richmond, taking on the “Dumpling Trail”, a self guided tour that took you on a journey to taste 13 different kinds of dumplings across 20 different restaurants, all vetted and vouched for by “Tourism Richmond”. And this brought us to Landsdowne centre. I wouldn’t think to visit their food court for some quality dumplings, but here we were and they did not disappoint. A few of my travelling companions have visited this stand prior to, and each confirmed how busy they get and continue to be throughout the day. I saw it for myself as lines grew, bodies were willing to wait, and customers posed for photos in front of their counter.

Everything was amazing except for the pan fried dumplings, for which the skin was too thick. Would recommend the pork and chive dumplings and the hot and sour beef vermicelli soup.

R&H Chinese Food is a food stall located in the Lansdowne Centre food court. Normally, you wouldn’t think that you could find good xiao long bao in a food court (unless you’re talking about Xu’s Wonton House aka Shanghai Dim Sum House in Crystal Mall). I ordered the Combo A with Steamed Juicy Buns and Rice Noodle Soup ($9.89). The combo really wasn’t worth it because the rice vermicelli was lacking in quantity and flavour… it was basically a small bowl of hot, clear soup with a few puffs, springs of green and less vermicelli than you’d find in a side order of sunomono.

Ignore all the snobs about service when has a Chinese resto ever prided itself on its service... It's a God damn food court stall, but it has the best XLBs and juicy dumplings in Richmond and Vancouver.
The soup dumplings are very tasty and cheap. The noodle soup bowls are awesome too! Its nice to know that they make all the dumplings and noodles fresh in-house.
Clumsy Waiter
Good price and good food

I tried the XLB , pork dumplings and beef noodle soup

For a food court location the XLB are great...pretty close to the best I have tasted which is the Crystal mall vendor located in the corner ( sorry don't know the name)

Dumplings are made to order they were the right consistency and chewiness

Finally beef noodle soup was pretty good. Beef had the right amount of flavour and the noodles were pretty good. They were a bit soft but that might be due to the fact I was eating the other stuff first and allowed it to cook

They're fairly slow at making food so allow 5-10 min. Noodles were soggy and soft and there were only 4 small pieces of fatty beef. 90% fat 10% beef. Soup base was fairly tasteless too.

I heard that the xiao long bao was really good here. I visited this food stall in the late afternoon on Saturday. There was definitely no lineup.

I tried many good xiao long bao in different restaurants but this xiao long bao at a food court in Landsdowne Mall was pretty good. This food stall has many other type of Chinese food. I would like to try them one day. Their pricing was reasonable.

This is my favourite food court stall. They serve restaurant quality shanghainese food at food court prices. All their food is made fresh so expect a bit of a wait. I especially like their beef noodles. It's got super tender, but fatty, beef and flavourful broth. Their noodles are also super delicious. They're obviously homemade and have a great texture. Their xiao long baos are also made fresh so they have tons of juice.

I’m kind of sad to think that Lansdowne Mall will be replaced by condos in a matter of years. My parents used to take me here when I was really little and I’ll never forget the cool things like Bonkers, hexagonal seats, Toys R Us and the food court. More so the food court for me nowadays – a lot of small, family owned businesses here will be shuttering and hopefully they’ll find another place to open up shop. One that I admittedly have not tried until just now is R&H Chinese Food. Many say this is one of the best places for Xiao Long Bao (ie the Soup Dumplings). And after seeing Mijune’s post on Instagram about it, I just had to check it out myself.

Heard a lot about this small place tucked away in Lansdowne mall. Went there on a busy Saturday afternoon and tried various dumplings. Some good and some very average. Their XLB is good but the top is very thick, too much dough. Pan fried dumplings are all nice. Would be back to try soups and more dumplings.

Overall, there are better Xiao Long Bao elsewhere. Please don’t come here for Xiao Long Bao!

We stumbled upon R&H in a Richmond food court, and ordered the Pan-Fried Pork Buns and Chive Pancakes with chilli sauce and vinegar. I was really impressed with the quality and taste of the food, after not expecting much due to the location of the restaurant. Cheap & Cheerful! As my friend Kelvin would say - Shanghai quality!
Kelvin F
Totally did not expect such good quality Shanghai food in a mall food court. Everything thing in R&H 正点 was made fresh, so it took a while to wait, but it totally worth it. My friend and I had the Sheng Jian Bao 生煎包, which is a pan fried juicy pork bun. The bao was moist on top and crispy bottom. Once you bite, be careful! The piping hot meat juice will burst from the bao and it was heaven. Also the chives pancake 韭菜鮮蝦盒子 was a pleasant surprise. The skin was not too thick and not oily at all. This place totally reminds me of my time in Shanghai. Definitely meet my high standard of Shanghai food, hardly you can find it Toronto. Recommended.

Horrible Customer Service - Never Going Back. I'm prompted to share my experience because I've never been treated so rudely at a food establishment in Canada until today. Here is what happened:

I order the hot and sour vermicelli and Chinese hamburger special from cashier #1. The picture and the name of the special is printed and framed on a piece of paper near the register. I get my food, finish my noodles, go for the Chinese hamburger and find that it is not a Chinese hamburger. I bring it up and politely tell cashier #2 that it is not what I ordered. He tells me that it is what I ordered because that's what was written down. I said no, I ordered the Chinese hamburger, I read it word for word from the sign near the register to cashier #1. He said cashier #1 wasn't there to confirm it so there's nothing he could do about it. I heard him asking in Chinese if cashier #1 was still in the back smoking. I was still standing there, quite shocked. Finally cashier #2 was like OK, I'll make you another one, 2 minutes.

I went back to sit with my friends while I waited. 15 minutes later, cashier #1 waves me over. He said you ordered hot and sour vermicelli and Chinese BUN. I said no, I ordered the hamburger, I read it from the sign. This went back and forth for a bit, volume escalating as it went on, so ridiculous. Then finally he said, next time you should speak louder then. There is nothing wrong with my volume, but definitely something wrong with his ego. He had the Chinese hamburger in his hands and said I had to pay $2 extra for it because earlier I paid for the cheaper combo. I said cashier #2 should have told me that I had to pay $2 extra to make me a new one because I wouldn't have waited there with my friends. He said, it's not cashier #2's job to do that, he just makes the food. So basically, I was just receiving bs excuse have bs excuse from this jerk. As I was walking away I remembered that I actually paid the amount for the Chinese Hamburger combo but there is not point in arguing with these sorts of people. It's lose, lose.

I've worked in restaurants so I know mistakes happen all the time, it's no big deal to me. But it really irks me when they try to feed me bs excuses. Is it ego? Do they get their pay docked when they admit to mistakes? It just makes the restaurant look bad and makes them look like a jerk. I don't get it. Good thing the food is very mediocre so I don't feel bad about never coming back.

They are so popular in this mall!Weekend is always little bit rush for them.especially around 12-2pm. u will even see 5-10 items on each order.most are families. So u may need patience for your order. Overall, food quality is pretty good as food court. For poor people who can not afford time to wait, it is regretful.

Portions way too small. Food is rather sloppy, hit and miss. The mid aged couple who operate the place looks like they would rather be somewhere else. U can get better for the money, which is around 13-14 bucks if u wanna get fed.

Very Fresh n Pretty Amazing!.... Very Fresh n Pretty Amazing

Food r sloppy , shanghai steam buns are way off. How can they serve over cooked noodle to customers?!?!? MSG is overloaded. Not worth it!!!

R&H Chinese Food is disappointing overall. The cashier is the owner, there were no customers visiting the food stall, the food does not even taste good, and the owners are so miserable looking! I mean, I understand if hired help looks miserable… but really, your own business?

Super high quality food for a food court. Service takes a bit longer because everything is made to order.
Takes all cards! Something rare in Richmond
Many people over look this place, but I definitely suggest giving it a try!

These are pot stickers. They are dumplings filled with minced pork (and sometimes minced shrimp), and either shredded napa cabbage or bakchoy, seasoned with salt, white pepper, sesame oil, soy and ginger. It’s steamed initially, then pan seared in oil until crispy on one side, then served. The filling, at first taste, is very similar to the xlbs, but less gingery and less soupy, and with addition of the napa cabbage. The seasoning was good, but I felt like it lacked something, alth

I will definitely need to come back to try a few more dishes. The price is decent and food seems to be good. Just a word of warning about service though, the man at the cashier seems very grumpy and not very friendly at all…Maybe we caught him at the wrong day….
Are You Gonna Eat That
The meat and soup inside the dumplings were tasty, but the dough was a bit thick. Still, for food court fare, this is pretty darn good.
