Review #9 Restaurant - Richmond

Adam
Great experience with a last minute and late takeout order. Food was delicious and affordable. Love how they are open 24/7. This being said, there is obviously a small trade off with the quality of food and customer service but it was minimal. This needs to be understood when a place is pumping out over 800 different items of food literally 24 hours a day. Our food was hot and not too oily and had generous portions. Would recommend.

Same great food & service! Not the same great price!! Was shocked to see how much the prices have jumped from 5 years ago. This used to be our go to place for late night eats after Friday Night Hockey. Until we discovered late night eats at Silver Tower and Alleluia Cafe where free soup and tea were included with our meals. All the dishes that were under $20 at #9 are now well over $20. There is also a 15% tip added to your bill for 6 or more people. The Pepper Salt Chicken Wings and Pork Chops are just good as ever. Waiter was super friendly even at 11:30pm at night. Will definitely be coming back. Just have to bring more money.

No.9 Restaurant is a 24/7 great place to enjoy Chinese cuisine especially in late evening. Lunch and late afternoon are busy time, waiting to be seated. The amazing food is served fast. We had yang chow fried rice, sweet@sour pork, lemon chicken with a yummy lemon dip. The price is worth the food quality and big portions. Service is efficient. We enjoyed the food and will recommend this place. Sent from my iPhone

Didn’t realise it was a 24/7 restaurant! Being able to order Chinese fast food all night is a great plus! We went at 4pm, so we ordered from the afternoon tea menu which was a little cheaper than the regular menu for a smaller portion. The baked spaghetti was great and the soy sauce chow men was even better! Not too oily or salty. Would recommend to my friends who like to eat late.

You will be spoilt for choices here! They have easily more than 100 dishes to choose from. The noodle dish was delicious though I wish the noodle could be a little bit more springy. The star here is the roast duck. It was so flavourful and the spice really penetrated deeply into the meat. Price was a high, but expected for a 24h restaurant.

I visit the Vancouver area about once a year and always make an effort to come to No. 9. I’ve never been disappointed. What the waitresses lack in charisma is made up with the delicious food that is always served quickly.

This place is definitely now on the rotation. We had Shrimp Wonton with noodles, Fish congee and Chinese donut to go with the congee. For drinks we got one hot and one cold milk tea, it all just hit the spot 👌🏻. It’s almost like a Chinese version of Dennys but a much larger food selection. And yes it’s 24hrs! Price: Normal for what you’re getting. Portion: Is on the average side of things when ordering the dishes we ordered. Place: Not the cleanest (table was still sticky) but overall kind of clean inside. Loads of parking because it’s connected to a mall. People: Kind and quick!

Always the favorite of many people. Tastes good and very big portions. Feels like eating in Hong Kong with the settings and the people talking in Cantonese. They open 24 hours!

This restaurant is now takeout-only but this is a problem because you can't check your food before you get it, and contaminated food will not be refunded. I bought a #54 noodle on April 15 and it had hair embedded in the food. The manager refuses to give me a full refund or replacement, only offering 50%. He is very angry that I reported them to VCH, after they refused to refund the money. He is more concerned that I made him look bad, than that his restaurant looks bad. The management is completely shameless and unapologetic.

I super like their lemon chicken and fried rice! The place is usually packed especially during lunch! We had to wait for at least 10 minutes to be seated. They have good food portions and price is quite reasonable.

This has been a post airport go-to for many years. It’s close to the YVR airport, convenient, and consistently good. Although it’s loud at time, that quickly becomes unnoticeable because the food is so good. My family and I usually order the same things but it’s because they’re consistently good. And even when we branch out and try new things they become a part of our favourites list. <br/><br/>I also love that they have deals where you can choose a few dishes for a set price and that they’re not gimmicky like most restaurants and give a small portion-they’re huge. <br/><br/>

I like to come here if I'm hungry late at night. Average chinese food for an okay price. It's certainly better than settling for mcdonalds at 3am...

If you have a craving in the middle of the night then this is the place to hit up as it is opened 24 hours. <br/><br/>For the most part portions are good but taste not so much. Prices are on the steep end too but someones gotta pay for 24 hour staffing and operation costs. <br/><br/>Bbq pork and bbq duck on rice was mediocre. Wasn’t impressed with the duck as it was all bone. Would have been nice if they put some greens for garnish. Wonton and tendon rice noodle soup was bland. <br/><br/>Great place for a quick fix but not my number one choice. For a 24 hour restaurant, it is also cash only which is inconvenient.

No. 9 restaurant has got to be the best Asian restaurant I've dined at. The food served here is simply delicious and recommend trying out the roast duck and roast pork. The pork is succulent and cooked to perfection. The only things that I didn't like about this place was that one of the food items was served cold. The manager at No. 9 is really sweet and he did apologise. Also, communicating with the waiters is a little difficult if you're not Asian but on the whole it's a place worth trying.

Have to give one point, because there is no zero or negative options. <br/><br/>This restaurant opens 24 hours , so it's really convenient for people living in Richmond, especially at midnight. The food is OK, and usually the service is just so so. <br/><br/>But today I met a very rude waitress. When I ordered the food, I found there are two dishes with similar names, one is BBQ duck Congee, and the other one has congee and BBQ duck. I was not clear about the difference in ingredients, so I asked her what's the difference between these two dishes. She suddenly became so mad, and yelled to me: do you want to order or not? Then she threw the menu on the table and left. At that time, I was totally shocked, and young couple next to my table were also shocked. After a while, the lady from next table tried to comfort me: don't be angry, this place has the reputation of bad service.... Obviously those words did not comfort me very well.<br/><br/> Because I am Chinese and she fully understood what I was talking about, I don't think there's any misunderstanding between us, which made her manner even more unacceptable.

If you want your money stolen, come here.<br/><br/>I never write reviews, but I am so shocked by how poorly we were treated tonight. My boyfriend and I came for a late night meal (around midnight). Our server was rude because we spoke English instead of Chinese. She never checked on us (which is typical of Asian restaurants, so that did not surprise me), she didn't bring us our takeout containers for a while so we asked the front desk to grab it, but she got mad at us for asking again, THEN she threw our dishes in a pile very angrily and did not package our food even though she packaged the food for every other table around us. THEN when we were paying, we left her cash and she STOLE IT. She accused us of underpaying her and said we never gave her a toonie (which we did, I literally saw her take it and put it in her pocket). She would not let us leave without giving her more money and she made several excuses saying, "I've worked here for ten years" and demanding more money when both my boyfriend and I saw with our own eyes that she had taken it... We were clearly treated poorly because we were "foreigners". I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will let everyone know that the service is terrible and they steal your money.

TERRIBLE service!!! Been going to this restaurant even though we've had bad experiences with their service (rude servers and they seem to not see you eventhough they're just beside you...they make you feel unwated or discriminated). Tonight we went back for another try, this time i was fed up. We've waited for 25 minutes! I asked the server for our orders because the customers around, who came in after us were almost done with theirs. We were told 2 more minutes. 10 minutes passed, i stood up and talked to the guy who assists you to the table. He was so loud and told me that he's aware thatvwe've been waiting for a long time. Still, i calmed down and told him to please just pack our orders. After 5minutes, our orderrs came unpacked?! What the....... 😤 told them again to pack it up. Bill came, we paid for it without any tip(which we always give, because the first time we didn't, the servers yelled at the top of her lungs for her tip?!?!) and servers were looking like expecting us to leave a tip. 😒 at last, our orders came, not even a single simple SORRY was heard from anybody working there. POOR SERVICE 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Really good portions and taste for a 24 h place. Always fully staffed, so price is a little higher than other places that offer the same portions and quality. But it's still a good place for late night cravings!

UNBELIEVABLE. Ordered BBQ duck on rice take out over the phone. Specified I wanted breast meat but the woman taking the order didn't know what breast meat was. I said it again and she said okay. 5 minutes later I get a call saying again she didn't know what I wanted so I said it again. When I got to the restaurant, she again said she didn't understand my request so the manager was called over. It was absolutely mind-boggling when he too didn't know what breast meat meant. I did my best to convey what I wanted and he said ok, ok. I took the meal and headed for work. When I opened it, I was so shocked, disappointed and really pissed that they gave me a pile if back bones....not a single piece of breast meat. I immediately phoned the restaurant to complain but they had changed shifts. The manager this time said he knew what breast meat was and that I would have received 4 pieces plus some back. He did not believe me so I said I would be returning it to him intact. When I returned to the restaurant, I wanted to show the manager the meal but he didn't want to see it. Instead, he brought me to the meat chopping station and proceeded to give me a lesson in how they chop the duck into quarters and then pieces. The cooks were standing back with amused looks on their faces as this guy who is suppose to be a manager chops up a duck. He condescendingly tells me that is how it's chopped and served, as if he's talking to a child. I forced him to look at the meal I got and he had to admit there was no breast meat there, only back pieces. I hope he realizes what an ass he made of himself with his display of arrogance. <br/>Hey no. 9, your managers need to learn a basic term like breast meat, and your one manager needs to learn how to deal correctly with justified complaints. He was a true embarrassment to your establishment. I@ eat at your place every week. The food is great...can't say the same about the staff.

You can't go wrong with this place especially when it's 24 hours. It's good average food. This place is the destination to go to after clubbing or lounging. Perhaps even after a joint lol. Plenty of parking all around, cash only. They have a atm machine inside for convience.<br/><br/>Prices have gone up a bit over the years. For breakfast I had the beef satay with vermicelli and it was good.

It's hard not to live a place like this. Classic Chinese food served 24 7. The is actually really good which matters at 3 in the morning. I will trek out here no matter how drunk I am. Surprisingly, the service is also good. There is literally no reason you shouldn't go.

Went there for a quick lunch en-route to ubc. Even though the place was crowded, we got seated quickly. We had dumpling rice noodle, and fish ball with regular fine egg noodle. Overall, the service was fast, and the food is typical of hk noodle shop. You have a choice of different types of noodle.
Ben And Suanne
During a spring break weekend, Ben wanted to have Hong Kong style dinner. Where else is more prominent than No.9 Restaurant in Lansdowne Mall. Ben ordered half a BBQ duck specifically for me as I love BBQ duck. I had both the drumsticks as Ben insisted. We also shared a House Special Chow Mien. The boys like the crispy noodle. There were plenty of seafood and BBQ pork.

May 30, 2016<br/><br/>It's been a while since I've came here. I used to come here with my family from Victoria to have their wonton soup as it was so delicious. Mind you, Victoria wontons are pure pork, not mostly shrimp like Vancouver.<br/><br/>Anyways, we came here around 9PM, the place was dead. We got seated near the corner with this waitress whom seems to hate her life or job because she doesn't even smile or give a crap about anything. Her service wasn't so great either, with slight attitude. <br/><br/>Their menu has changed. Lots of different combinations you can make now. We decided to get the 2 Item Combo with 1 bowl of congee or rice. I noticed they had some jellyfish and I asked the server how big the plate was and she said it was really small. I didn't order it as I didn't think it is work $10 for a very small plate of it.<br/><br/>Salt and Pepper Fried Cod - It is literally fish and chips! That's all I have to say. Not much taste. Had bits of fried onions and peppers on top to make that salt and pepper taste, otherwise just plain old fish and chips.<br/><br/>Szechuan Green Beans - Most restaurant I go to they always cut the ends off. This dish had the ends attached. In addition there were bits and pieces of ends throughout the dish. It was still pretty tasty. The meat was very salty.
Jelizatin Eats
As many others have mentioned, the appeal to No. 9 is that it's opened 24 hours. The quality of food is decent. On multiple occasions we have ordered the congee, bbq duck, spicy green beans, the deep fried silver fish, and flat rice noodles with black bean sauce. The congee was quite bland and the beans weren't spicy, but the duck, silver fish, and noodles were all really good and would order them again.<br/><br/>Service will vary depending how busy it is, and the prices are fair. We wouldn't ever plan to go to No. 9, but when it's late and options are limited we would return.

Their yang chow fried rice is very tasty. Offers big servings at affordable prices. Restaurant is always full though. Good thing they are open 24/7.

Went here everytime when sending a person to leave the airport or coming from out of town, why? the place opens 24 hours! yes and it's chinese restaurant. while at the same time, their food is definitely okay, it's something that they do, like it's very very specific which i can't remember what it's but every time i go here depending on the crowd, some of my friends really love the deep fried silverfish like a lot! and also the rest of the food, bbq pork are okay, i think it's one of those staple places for me if ever i left vancouver, i must visit this place.<br/><br/>the food is not mind blowing good, but definitely good-average type but the 24 hours is what makes it a destination to go.
Lower Mainland Muncher
Quick service. Love that it's open 24/7. It's definitely more expensive than most Chinese restaurants in the area but worth it if you're hungry for a good meal in the middle of the night. Must try: deep fried spicy salty cod and chicken wings.
Picky Diner
It’s been 18 years since I moved to Vancouver, No. 9 Restaurant is still sitting at the same spot in Lansdowne Mall, Richmond. Being the only Chinese joint that opens 24 hours in the lower Mainland, this place never seems to slow down. I visit this place probably once or twice a year. And here I am, making my 2015 appearance with Morgan at 4 am in the morning. It was toward to the end of our 12-hour TGIF outing – happy hour cocktails at The Emerald, dinner at Fat Mao, birthday gathering at The Central City Brew Pub, and dancing at the Cobalt – so a comforting Chinese meal definitely hit the spot after all that.<br/><br/>Broccoli Beef will always be in my top 5 favorite comfort dishes. Their version here ($14.95) at No.9 is very nicely prepared and close to perfection – broccoli was bright green and with a crunch (or what my favourite foodie Sherman would say, a snap), beef was tender and flavourful, and final stir fry sauce was clean and shiny, making the dish textbook perfect. Clearly this dish is requested so often that the chef probably can cook it in his sleep.

No. 9 is an average but tasty stop if you're around Landsdowne and into some Hong Kong style cuisine. Unfortunately, their soups are flavoured with MSG which is a huge disappointment. Their wontons are however, big and juicy. The BBQ pork I ordered is pretty average in terms of what you can find around Richmond; definitely not the best but not the worst either. The prices for their portions are very reasonable and will leave you full but won't amaze your tastebuds.
Loverc
Was there with the family. This place was opened for soo long. We thought it would be a nice place to revisit.... But i have to say, their food is not as good anymore, and i mist say even their milk tea and coffee is quite disappointing now. The good part is they are opened 24/7.

I went to this place for a Long week end late night, I was busy considering the time was mid night, this place is famous for twenty four hours Chinese food. I had the traditional won ton noodle in soup, It was good/average enough for a mid night craving, recommend for people who are hungry and can't sleep at night.

For a 24h restaurant (7days a week) their Chinese food is actually really good! I love how it's super convenient because of their hours and their service isn't too bad either!
Agean007
I used to frequent No. 9 Restaurant because their food quality was consistent. Staff were usually friendly. However lately I witnessed 2 things:<br/><br/>1) Food quality plummeted. Ordered BBQ Duck with rice. Rice was stale and hard.<br/><br/>2) Unwritten 10% POST TAX tip imposed. <br/><br/>I witnessed their waitresses "instructing" 3 other tables (2 of which were senior citizens ) to pay 10% post tax tip. They would add up every nickel and dime to ensure that the 10% post tax tip is met. If you are short of a nickel, they will blatantly ask for it. That's absurd. Gratuity is a social custom. It's not compulsory. That's life in the restaurant business. <br/><br/>Service was never top notch. Sometimes the waitresses can be quite blunt but overall I thought they were ok and always gave a 10% post tax tip. People have the right to choose whether they want to tip or not and how much. <br/><br/>I think management is forcing its waitresses demand for 10% tip post tax. If the restaurant wants to take a cut, it should impose a 10% service charge instead of getting its staff to do the dirty & embarrassing task of demanding for tip.

So the other day when we were near Landsdowne my dad was like "We haven't gone to No.9 in so long!!" Every few months my dad wants to go back to No.9 LOL! He really likes it - back when we weren't so familiar with Richmond, this was the only place we would eat at! Every time we go it brings me back to the summer of '13 LOL, right before I started blogging! :D<br/><br/> Oh - something funny happened during our meal - after we got our food I started snapping photos, and the waitress laughed at me LOL!! She was probably thinking "Is this the first time she's seen a plate of noodles?" ;D<br/><br/> I've had their BBQ meats SO many times - but this is my first time blogging about it!! I've blogged about them here: http://www.vancitynoms.com/2014/12/no9-restaurant-richmond.html

Ass hole Manager. This manager rudest guy in the world. Asked him for water just walked away and was rude.Waited 40 minutes for fried rice and asked 5 times for water. 0/5 would not go to again.
Steventierney1993
Absolutely terrible. Worst restraunt around. 6 of us went there because it was open late and in a good location. Took 20 minutes to place an order, a dish of fried rice didn't come for about an hour and only after asking a 4th waiter about it. Terrible food quality. We asked the manager of the restraunt if we could get glasses of water and he said "no, ask your waitress"<br/>Disgusting service, kitchen is dirty, staff are rude<br/>God damn 0/10

What a crappy lunch at #9. I thought #9 restaurant was a restaurant with quality, but i was wrong. Today was brutal. I can take mistakes but I cannot stand lies from waitresses. I ordered a Mushroom and vegetable chow mein for lunch with my family and specifically asked the waitress to make a no meat one (it's supposed to be for vegetarian anyway). She even confirmed that with me. But what came was my chow mein with chicken in it. I asked her and she said it's supposed to be the other person's and started mumbling and blaming the waiter who delivered it. Then 5 minutes later my chow mein came and she said the chef made a new plate. But as I was eating I saw meat bits everywhere within the noodles. When we were about to leave we left 3 dollar tips for a 51 dollar bill because of the lie and delay; but she was saying it's insufficient. I told her she didn't get the chef to make me a new chow mein, instead she simply took off the meat. She started mumbling and blaming the chef and me (for not telling her there's still meat the second time it came). Who would have the time and effort to remind a waitress again and again for the services they should be providing. I know this is all lies because I worked at a restaurant before. If a waitress would do this to you, don't expect the restaurant to be honest, and you might be having the others' left over meat or vegetables. It seems like it's highly possible at #9

Not coming back. The service here is 5/10. The price seem to have gone up from years ago. The servers are really pushy when it comes to ordering(I just sat down and 2 minutes later I was asked to order). Just because it's a place in your neighborhood, doesn't mean you have to support it. This place needs to up their customer service. On top of all of it, have you seen any of the staff wash their hands after clearing a table and then serving you right after?

New Years lunch at #9. # 9 used to be a good and reasonable restaurant but today was not a good experience . Yes the price has gone up the food is the same quality but the service was bad , we have to always look for a server to give us more tea or even our food was not serve properly . Overall rate of 10 being the top I will rate a 5 .
Andy
Used to visit this place a lot for late night food and the BBQ pork...etc. but today I had a bowl of BBQ pork on rice and a glass of iced lemon tea and it cost $15 with tax and tips! Are you kidding me? Price went up a lot in recent years and doesn't worth it
Happy Eater 12
Table too small. Ordered a set lunch for two, the table was too small to accommodate everything. Seated very uncomfortably. The service was not too bad but seemed a bit rush for everyone. The quantity was ok but the quality below par. The beef brisket was way too dry looked like it was re-heated by a microwave, and also was too fatty. The soup was ok though.

Returning incorrect orders not an option. Went for a late night snack and ordered 2 dishes. Soup and a vegetable dish. Both dishes I'm quite familiar with so I made a point of mentioning that I want no mushrooms and onions. Personal preference. Once the dishes arrived, mushroom were present. Not an issue. People make mistakes. What I am not impressed with was 1) my server initial denied I mentioned anything about no mushrooms and 2) they returned my 2 dishes (not recooked from new), but picked out the mushrooms for me and reserved it. Like really? This restaurant can't afford to do the right thing and correct the mistake? The worst part is I even told them that I have allergies to mushrooms to point out the importance of re-doing it properly. Not the first time I had to deal with an incorrect order here. My fault for thinking they would improve there customer service.

Never Again. Ate here for the first time tonight and it will certainly be the last. First of all the place is so jam packed with tables that there is barely any place to even walk. The tables are so small that there is no room for anything. We ordered three dishes to share and they barely fit on the table. Instead of being able to put my plate in front of me to eat I was forced to have it off to the side as there was no room on the table. Also the tables were positioned so close together that a table for two was essentially a table for six if you had occupied tables on either side of you. We ordered two soft drinks - one ginger ale with a lot of ice and one root beer with no ice. The male waiter simply said "no ginger ale only 7-Up," and walked away without the opportunity for us to say ok. The 7-Up arrived within a few minutes with minimal ice. Ironically it took another 10 minutes for the root beer to arrive - I guess it was being imported or something. The root beer arrived with ice when it was requested with no ice. We ordered two bowls of rice and only received one. Two of the dishes ordered were decent but the third was horrible. We ordered deep fried crispy ginger beef. There was absolutely nothing crispy about it but rather it was extremely soggy and looked like a pile of black worms. It was rather disgusting. Needless to say we did not eat it. The service was horrible. I have been to a lot of restaurants in my life. After being seated no one came over to ask if everything was ok or even make any interaction at all. We tried several times to get the attention of a few waitresses as they sped by but had no luck. Finally I got the attention of the same male waiter who seated us and took our drink orders. I asked him about the one dish we had received. He said that it was crispy ginger beef. I advised him that there was nothing crispy about the dish and that it was soggy. He said there has to be sauce on it or it would be dry. I told him that if something is going to be advertised as "crispy" that it should be crispy and that we have ordered the same dish at other restaurants where it was full of flavour and extremely crispy. He said that he would take it off the bill this time but next time if there were any issues that we needed to advise them right away. I honestly don't know why we need to advise them right away as they could clearly see that we had barely touched the dish. We advised him that we tried to get someone's attention with no luck. He said "all you do is raise your hand and we come." I advised him that "if" this is the policy where patrons have to raise their hands to get service then maybe people should be advised. Horrible horrible service! And in the entire ordeal never was there an apology but instead it was all the patrons fault. We were made to feel as if they were doing a favour for us by taking the item off of the bill. When I was talking to the male waiter my intention was not to get the item taken off the bill but to advise that something should not be advertised one way if that is not what you are going to get. We even mentioned to him that the other two items we received were very good to which we received the reply, "yeah ok," as he was walking away. A patron sitting next to us advised us that people do not come to this restaurant for the service. He said that our table was positioned a ways from the kitchen so the dish was probably ready before but just not brought to the table right away. Really sad that this is what #9 is portraying to their customers. When we were leaving the male waiter was at the door with a female waitress. He looked at us and then said something in Chinese to the female waitress. Never again.

Yummm!. We always drive out from Surrey to Richmond to eat here. My favourite Chinese food. We always get the Salt and Pepper Squid, Minced Pork Green Beans, Minced Beef Fried Rice and Lemon Chicken. Good value for the price.

Mixed feelings. No. 9 is a well-known twenty-four hour restaurant located in Lansdowne Shopping Mall in Richmond. I have dined at No. 9 a number of times over the years and have had both positive and negative experiences there. Service can be a bit sketchy at times. While some servers are friendly and polite, the majority are not. There is a vast menu including some western dishes. Food quality is adequate and portions tend to be quite large. Food is tasty but is also very greasy and salty...definitely not a place to go if you want something healthy. <br/><br/>Pros: Open 24/7, lots of variety, fast service<br/><br/>Cons: Service, not so healthy
Bakchoy
Lying Servers and Disgusting Food. The first time I went to No. 9, it was ok. I ordered the deep fried spicy squid and mushrooms on bakchoy. Mediocre food at an expensive price.<br/><br/>This time I went, the manager came up to me and promoted tonight's special - Lamb Hotpot. So.. I ordered that. Then I heard the waitresses whispering to each other saying "what lamb hotpot.. we don't have lamb hotpot..." And 10 minutes later, a waitress came up to me saying "sorry, we ran out of the lamb hotpot tonight." In my head I was like ...WHAT? IT'S ONLY 6pm. So instead I ordered the deep fried spicy squid and the jellyfish.<br/><br/>This time, the deep fried spicy squid was terrible. It was overly battered such that the excess batter inside was goopy. Also, the spices weren't even mixed with the squid.. they just aggregated in the center of the dish. The squid had no flavor this time.<br/><br/>The jelly fish was the instant jellyfish I can buy at supermarkets. It was definitely not restaurant quality. It was hard and you can see they only served me the ends of it. It costed me 9 bucks for instant jellyfish. They also served me sauce on the side, which was just vinegar with little pieces of pickled ginger. I have never seen this before. All other places mix the sauce with the jellyfish before serving and it does not taste like vinegar, but has small red chili flakes. I asked if they had sesame seeds so I can sprinkle some on like a real dish but they said they don't have any. What kind of Chinese restaurants don't have sesame seeds?<br/><br/>If you google a jellyfish dish you can see there is thick jellyfish strips, chili flakes, sesame seeds, and it'll look tender and juicy.

Customer. No.9 is good restaurant over all. But I must warn you all for the cashier ladies at No.9 especially daytime shift lady. She demands tip for takeouts or try to return your change on short forcing you to tip her as you meant to. It was numerous times I have discovered her attitude. She would act dumb and short you on your changes and keep the remaining for tip if you don't pay attention, any of you customers notice the tip enforcements on takeouts will know what I am talking about. Or else the ladys give you a disgrace attitude if you leave her no tip for your take outs! For those that haven't notice, pay attention from now on and watch out for the short in changes from your take out purchases!

BIG FAIL #9.. For lack of anything else being open on Xmas decided to get takeout from #9.<br/>Arrived about 10/15 Mins after ordering so I paid and was given a number while.I waited.<br/>After waiting about 40 mins the lady at front desk looked over seeing me STILL waiting and said "wow" acknowledging how long I had been waiting but still didn't check with the kitchen. Finally another person waiting and a server looked thru the orders waiting to be picked up at the front counter and I over heard her say my phone number off one of the orders so I went up now 45 mins after ordering my food had been sitting on the counter for atleast 15 mins without them calling my number or checking on my order. What terrible service... I had assumed because the lady at front had aknowledge how long I had been waiting that my order was still not ready since they also hadn't called out the number they had given me (for no reason apparently) merry Xmas #9 won't be seeing me again or my overly generous tip for one person ordering takeout just since it was Xmas.

AVOID THIS ONE!!. Food o.k. but over-salted, tasting like lots of MSG<br/>Unclean tables and dishes, worn out cutlery<br/>Un-attentive, unfriendly service,<br/>Demanding "cash only" but not telling beforehand<br/>[Tax department interested?]<br/>Avoid at all cost!

No hospitality. We ordered 5 drinks, 1 lemonade and 4 milk teas.<br/><br/>The waiter came over to my right side, so my friend and I scooted over to the opposite direction to make room for him. He first put the lemonade down, and then what seemed like a short pause, came 4 milk teas splashing down my back, purse, the inside of my purse- which included my wallet, ipod and other things , jeans, and the jacket of my friend. I was totally soaked. <br/><br/>I guess he had lost his balance of the tray, and I get that it's an accident.<br/><br/>I slowly rose out of my seat while the whole restaurant watched me. I was given a pile of napkins to try and dry myself. I then proceeded to the washroom with my friend to try and clean up.<br/><br/>The part that I'm mad about is not because the waiter had spilled the drinks on me, but the fact that there was nothing done. They cleaned up the mess, I saw the manager tell the waiter to go over to me and apologize and that was that.<br/><br/>The other waitress decided to give me a free milk tea, but there was no word from the manager. Not even a "is there anything else we can get you?" or a "don't worry about the bill". They just apologized and that was it. Food is good, but I'll probably wear a raincoat next time.

The Applebee's of Cantonese. I have a lot to learn about Chinese food, and what better place to do it but Richmond? I've read Urbanspoon reviews about No.9 Restaurant 九記 so I wasn't expecting glamour. But there are lots of restaurants in any culture's cuisine that dish out middle-brow versions of that ethnic group's comfort food standards. Like Applebee's and TGIFriday's does for us gweilos. I'd put No.9 in that sort of category (just not a franchise op.)<br/><br/>The bowl of barbequed duck on rice was merely that -- a chopped up duck half on white rice. The skin had some tasty bits, it had some boring bits. Mass-produced but not bad. What could be more basic (and unadventurous) than pork chow mein, eh? I realize that ordering that is like going to an Italian joint and eating spaghetti with marinara sauce. But I had it anyway -- a good thing to judge a restaurant on. It had an OK amount of pork mince, so-so blend of soft-cooked onions, mushrooms and other veg. Enough for two portions at least for $12. The noodles seemed cooked appropriately to me, not mushy, although there was one burned edge. It was better than eating Chun King from a can.<br/><br/>I see reviews complaining about the service. I was only at No. 9 for takeaway, but the maitre d'ista put a menu in my hands within 30 seconds of me walking in the door at 8 p.m. on a busy Saturday night. They got my order right, had it to me within 15 minutes and it was still warm by the time I bicycled up to the Fraser River for a dusk picnic. So I can't kvetch. What's a Chinese word for "kvetch"?

Unreasonable!!!!!!!!. This service of this restaraunt is horrible. the waiters are the most stingiest greedy people you will meet. they always want a tip and demand they get paid more than 10% for a tip. they are so rude and they blame you for ordering too much food. they are so greedy and always want money money money. hate the service here skip this place. the one in richmond is really bad and has rude service. they just throw the food at you and you always have to get up and find someone to take your order DISGUSTING

Horrible!!!. I received the worst service Ive ever had in a food establishment today. <br/><br/>Icing on the cake? Being told my already paid tip (10%) "wasn't good enough" and my payment being denied/un-recognized. (After saying it wasnt good enough, she turned around and waited for us to give her more)<br/><br/>Id also like to note that although we did infact leave a tip (and really shouldnt have) it was a busy night AND I have worked in the service industry, so Im not being cruel/harsh/bigoted. I know that they are making decent tips because it was extremely full. <br/><br/>When we got our dishes, they were almost thrown onto our table. (They were also cold) The waitress did not look at us, speak to us, or even acknowledge us. We has to sort out who got what and she didnt even come to our table, just tossed them onto the table from the side. <br/><br/>I ordered an item from the menu and was told instead "No I will just give you steamed noodles". I said I wanted noodles in soup, not steamed noodles. "No, I will just give you noodles". I was like wtf? I want number 26. Again, "No, Ill just give you dry" <br/><br/>I just wanted something to eat because Id been shopping most of the day and was hungry. I wasnt expecting anything really amazing or to be treated really nicely, but they seemed to go out of their way to be rude and horrible which I so did not expect at all. <br/><br/>We werent rude, infact I was polite the whole time and kind. We were quiet and smiling, so I dont know why we got such bad treatment. <br/><br/>I will NEVER come back here and I am telling everyone I know to stay away. <br/><br/>How rude!

Food is ordinary. My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner two nights ago, and we were seated fairly quickly by a man who seemed to be the manager or owner. <br/><br/>We ordered a whole soy chicken and a plate of BBQ pork fried rice. It was ordinary. The soy chicken came in less than five minutes. It was okay for me if it wasn't fresh, but it wasn't even hot! The rice on the other hand came in less than ten minutes. I didn't taste the BBQ pork at all. It was pretty much yang chao fried rice with "BBQ pork". The pork grinds didn't taste anything like BBQ and it looked really old.<br/><br/>The service wasn't bad at all. I've nothing bad to say about it, but the food is why I wouldn't go back here. There are other better Chinese places.

Ordered wonton noodle soup, first time in years. Used to love their wonton soup when I was cramming for school. The level of MSG hit me like a hammer. Not a item to order if u don't like MSG.

Great for late nite eats after a night out + great place to sober up after one too many drinks. authentic chinese comfort food at its best. convenient ample parking out front too.

Bad, bad experience. No. 9 skimps on take out orders - portions are not as ordered, not the first time. Will never go there again! Had the unfortunate experience of being robbed there before too - masked gunmen!
Kungbochicken
Used to like their beef tender suop noodle but not anymore. using lower grade beef tender is the main reason. sorry

Bbq duck on rice. The best bbq duck on rice bowl in Metro. It comes with a dipping sauce and duck sauce to drizzle on your rice. Great big portion of juicy bbq duck. I don't ever need to order anything else at this restaurant. This is it.
Yvonne
$28 for BBQ duct to GO?! ARE YOU JOKING ME!. This place is terrible, they up their price on their BBQ duck from $19 (which was high to begin with, I mean highest in Richmond) to $28 and it taste worst than before. They are the only one selling BBQ duck after hours and they gouch you for it....don't buy from them!
Lovexesther
Hardcore cantonese. Hardcore, authentic, hong kong-style restaurant. very good food. everything has authentic flavor. great soup and dishes.
The Poor Food-e
What Else is Open.... ...at 4am? It's not the best ambiance, the food is average, but being open almost 24hrs is a huge advantage. It's hard to find any place that's so quick and cheap in the first place. At that time of night, I'm not looking for service. I'm looking to eat and go.<br/><br/>Btw, they do have a few gems in their menu. I recommend their honey-garlic wings, their deep-fried cuttlefish, and deep-fried silverfish.
Ray Q.
Always Fresh and cheap. I love this place. Open 24/7 always fresh and good. the portion are a great value. Highly recommend.

Okay... but know what to expect!. I think No. 9 is a staple for many of us. We don't expect the best Chinese food in the world...most of the time the food is over-greased and I'm pretty sure laden with MSG. But hey, it's open, always busy (which means food turn over can't be bad) and the menu rolls out like the bible. There's something for everyone, and as long as you're not expecting the best quality of food (though a gazillion notches better than say, Richmond public market food court)- you can't be disappointed.
Gotta Eat
Typical Chinese restaurant. #9 restaurant is gotta be one of the fastest restaurant I've been to. Once you make a reservation, it's like zip they get you in, zip they get your food on, zip they get you out. The food is pretty good, I especially liked the eggplant noodle thing. The service is very efficient.
Mik Narciso
Ate there before and saw the chefs eating dinner atwhile preparing my food..

Reasonable prices large partions. Okay service. Overall good. Will return. Oh and the food is tasty and consistant.

#9 does not carry you tiao?!?. Why sell congee when you don't carry you tiao? I checked whether they are out of stock or they don't carry it at all. #9 does not carry you tiao!
Rebusaurus Eats
Though it's nothing special, it's also not bad. #9 is always open, and food and service is fast (though sometimes busy, so you may have to wait for the wait staff to be free to help you).

If you live in Richmond then you know that No. 9 is a classic way to end a late night out. No. 9 is open 24 hours. A traditional Hong Kong style restaurant, it offers almost any Cantonese dish imaginable. The menu is so long! I used to be very “anti” No. 9 but oh my god, I have definitely been missing out. It’s not that I’ve never eaten here before but I haven’t been here in years and I’ve always had such negative opinions on the place. I think the food tastes better at 2 am. We came here after celebrating Lianne’s birthday at Library Square. No. 9 is at Lansdowne Mall. Actually, it is right across from Kyung Bok Palace , where I had dinner just the previous night. We were seated promptly. The servers were so nice! I was kind of surprised since I subconsciously expected them to be rude and agitated. It was 2 in the morning.
SunnyYQ
Overall, the portions were all humongous. The food is by no means fine dining quality, but for a casual restaurant serving up comfort food, it was decent enough!
Hungry Gator
This 24 hour joint is a life savior when hungry pangs hit you in the middle of the night. One of my favorite dishes from No. 9 is  Szechuan chicken and fried spinach. I find this dish less oily compared to other fried spinach dishes I tried elsewhere. The combination of spice and the crispy spinach is simply divine. And I always amazed that the spinach always looks so green. Another of my favorite dishes  is their noodles and soup dish - I usually order shui gow. I love the taste of shrimps and pork in a dumpling. Good wholesome goodness. Their fried rice is pretty awesome too - chicken and salty fish. They also serve combo meals (which offers a range of options including BBQ meat dishes and other cooked food). 99 also offers your typical Hong Kong fare such as  Hong Kong style French toast glazed with honey or peanut butter. The chicken looks oily - but trust me, this is still a less oilier version compared to other similar dishes. The texture of the chicken was succulent and there wa
Constant Cravings
Portions can be pretty big depending on what you order so it’s good for sharing and it’s probably one of the only restaurants I know of that opens 24/7 besides McDonalds.

We’ve been to No. 9 Restaurant many times before. This is practically a landmark restaurant in Richmond – well known to virtually every local person and talked about by visitors as well. The restaurant is located right at Lansdowne Mall and because it faces No. 3 Road, it is incredibly visible to most drivers. The restaurant is open 24 hours a day and offers a wide variety of casual cantonese style food – from a huge selection of congee to noodles to rice to common cantonese dishes.

Hot Damn! If this wasn’t one of the best dry fried beef rice noodles I’ve had outside of anywhere, I’m on some sort of cough-syrup-enhanced-LSD. The wok-hei of the dish was like some sort of omnipresent fire-spitting-dragon that dosed you with gorgeous burnt flavours every time you bit into the rice noodles.
Eating With Kirby
Meta Knight ordered the Preserved Egg and Shredded Pork Congee ($6.15) because he felt a bit sick that day. All Asians know that when you get sick, congee is the only way to recovery. :) He enjoyed the large chunks of preserved egg and shredded pork.

This big ol' bowl of BBQ Duck on Rice is the only reason I go to No. 9 Restaurant, located in Lansdowne Mall, Richmond. The restaurant in open 24 hours, every day of the week. I know that if I ever have a craving for BBQ Duck, that I could fill up here! The BBQ Duck is served with plum sauce and a small bowl (not a little soy sauce bowl) full of the duck gravy. It's like the soy-based duck juices all combined and you pour it all over your rice. OMG. No. 9 is the only restaurant I know that gives you a whole bowl full to go with your order of rice. This is the only BBQ Duck on Rice that I crave for. The duck isn't all bones and skin. You get actual chunks of meat. The skin isn't riddled with feathers as someone took the care to prepare it properly. It's crispy on the outside and tender, succulent inside. Rating: 6/6

It was nine-thirty in the morning on a Saturday, we were trying to decide where to kill an hour of time while waiting for the car to be serviced. Good thing our car shop was right across from Lansdowne Mall but the bad thing was the mall doesn't open that
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
I also had a bowl of Mix 2 Types of BBQ Meats on Steamed Rice 雙拼飯. I asked for Soy Chicken 油雞 and Honey BBQ Pork 蜜汁叉燒. The half and half pork was a bit on the saltier side, but good. The chicken was dry but okay in taste.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
We started off with a Wonton Soup 雲吞湯, which was something I was going to order if we're going a-la-carte. These wontons were not the greatest, but they definitely satisfied the cravings. Simply comforting.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
Buddha Boy ordered Deep-Fried Dumplings (炸水餃)...his favorite from No.9...he loves anything deep-fried or with bacon. I'm not a big fan of this so I did not try any. Buddha Boy thought it was ok...not as good as before.

i’ve been to #9 a couple of times back in 2006 but since the food consist of too much MSG, i deter myself from heading there as much as possible. however, i went there twice this year since arya & co. & my church mates wanted to go there too. the place is

Is there one thing that you think you can eat for the rest of your life and you'd never get bored? Well, this post is that for me. I rarely venture into Richmond, but on a cool wintry day, I did! I went to Lansdowne Mall to revisit #9 Restaurant. I used to go lots before because they are open 24 hours a day. And after those random late night karaoke sessions, some Chinese comfort food was just what the doctor ordered. I love BBQ Duck. I love rice noodles. I love rice noodles in soup. But I don't like my BBQ Duck in soup. So when I order my BBQ Duck Rice Noodles in Soup, I always ask for the BBQ Duck to be served on the side. So when my food comes, the rice noodles come in a bowl of hot broth, topped with seasonal veggies. Yes, they force you to eat veggies here. It's a healthy serving, but I polish it off everytime. On this afternoon, instead of just getting BBQ Duck, I got my noodles with a combo of BBQ Duck as well as Roast Pork. And just so you know...Roast Pork ≠BBQ Pork! Roast

I started going to No. 9 Chinese Restaurant in Richmond back when I was still a student. This would be one of the few restaurants that still serve decent food

I have to give my review based on what it is: a 24 hour Hong Kong style diner, you can't come with high expectations. With that being said, you'll leave feeling full as well as satisfied that you got a cheap meal. The food is good, but not the best Chines
Senses Inspired
No 9 is a Hong Kong style cafe but I liken it to the Walmart of cafes. A Hong Kong style cafe is usually a mix of Cantonese and Western food. No 9 has both and seems to try include every province, state, and South Asian country in its Yellow Pages length
Acfong
Granted, there is better quality food out there, but No. 9 is literally opened all the time. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; the issue here wasn’t a gourmet quality Asian food, it was to satisfy a craving that had lasted nearly 2 weeks.

After reading Carl’s post about his Cheui Yuen Siu Gun experience, I decided it was about time to hit the old standby lunch spot, #9 Restaurant. Richmond has some really authentic Hong Kong style restaurants and #9 is as close to the real Hong Kong as you

No. 9 Restaurant in Richmond...is an Asian / Western restaurant that serves quality Chinese food and North American items.

A few weeks back, we went to #9 for dinner. We had enough of HK Style Cafes and of late been trying out more of, you know, chow-choy type of dinners. I am not sure what is the proper English word to describe this … but chow-choy to us means that we order dishes to share. It will come together with steamed rice and nothing else. Generally, that is how a typical family meal is served for the Chinese...
