Review Original Joe's - Richmond

Ben Klein
Original Joe's is decent bar to family restaurant food. They have variety of poutines, burgers and pastas as well as a few salads, and entrees. The burgers and poutines are good with their all need burgers taking the lead. Service is usually very quick and staff are friendly. Bathrooms are clean. You can watch sports here. Parking is pretty good as they are part of a mall. They are on two bus routes and their are bike racks.

Great beer, great atmosphere, without a doubt a place not to be missed. Food was great, service was quick & staff awesomeness was very much present. Not your average bar. Clean, tidy & was a pleasure to visit. Big kudos to whoever runs this establishment. I have visit many restaurants/bars whilst in Canada but this one gets a gold medal for a chilled out place to eat, drink & very attentive staff to your needs. Gonna visit again tomorrow.

Really like the atmosphere and our waitress was the best. Quick service, excellent food, and good location. Right off the freeway & near Richmond ice rink. Thought we took a risk, but ended up one of the best meals during our trip. Parking was quirky but there is additional behind the building.

We stopped in here after a very long day in a couple airplanes on the way out from Philadelphia. My wife, two kids and I were here for dinner on a Friday evening. The place was probably about 3/4 full and had a nice buzz about it. It's decorated well, the music was playing at a good level, but still allowed conversation, and there are a few TVs if you want to watch a game. There is a nice selection of local beer on tap and a full bar. My wife had a fish special, I had a burger with a side of poutine, and the kids split a chicken finger dish. We also ordered an appetizer of nachos, and it was way too much food, but that's what happens when you order overly hungry. The food was all very good and cooked perfectly. The server was attentive and friendly. We were in a bit of a rush because we had to run back to the airport to pick up the other half of our party flying in from another town, and the server expedited everything to allow us to get there in time.

We love the menu! I think it is really original! The drinks are really nice. We enjoy the brunch the other day and it was superb! Their butter chicken is a must try! and their burgers are great too!

Went for dinner with the misses and good friends, the night after New Year's eve chaos! Was a very enjoyable time and a great dinner. Our servers were a delight, very helpful and a lot of fun! All of us were glad we waited to celebrate tonight to enjoy bringing in the New Year. Cheers!

I ordered the Mac & cheese and or was the best I ever had. My friends ordered the Tacos and my friends really enjoyed them. So the food was delicious. The service was great and the staff was quite helpful. They deserved the large tip I gave them.

As weekly regulars, I have great service here, waitress' are lovely, ssood is fantastic, atmosphere is great. But tonight I cant believe the kind of treatment we were receiving, it's rather frustrating. We noticed that our server seemed to be new, and that server almost didnt want to service us, would never even look at us, we didnt even recieved the food from her, we saw tell another one of her colleagues to bring our food to us. I'd rather not pull the race card, but it felt like she was providing more adequate service to caucasian clients, conversing and staying at their tables to actually ask how they are doing. The only reason I am not giving a 1 star is because of the lovely red headed lady and the blonde twins who are always so kind to us. I would greatly appreciate if some kind of attention was given to your staff in order to better service in the future and prevent this from occurring again.

I ordered the Mediterranean chicken Caesar wrap/pita. It should have been called just a grilled chicken wrap. It was nothing close to Mediterranean at all. It was dry gross and mostly mounds of what seemed to be excess fajita-wrap. Not a pita at all! And definitely nothing appetizing about it. I could barely choke it down. The server-girl asked how everything was before I had a chance to even taste it, so I ate some of it only because I was so hungry and I waited so long for it. Eventually she came around and I was able to tell her. The mgr came and chatted and my portion of the bill was taken off. Anyways, the server girl was friendly, but just a long time between her visits to our table as well as just not a very good overall opinion at all from myself and my company.... sorry!

Came for a day trip from Seattle and stopped in for a bite. Our server was darling! The food was great and not overpriced. Reading the sad reviews on here, doesn’t sound like the same place! We will be back.

started off as "meh" last year and now is incredibly good the last 5 times I have been here. Great beers on tap (try their house honey brown), good specials every night and a perfectly stacked Guinness if you want it. Why are more people not eating here? The Truffle Parmesan housecut chips are insanely good, and so are the Greek ribs, the ACE burger griddled to perfection, and the zesty chicken lettuce wraps. Service is warm, friendly and professional. Awesome selection of sides served with your burger, too. Never too long a wait, comfortable half-booths and always a good time whether I'm on a date, out with my friends or with our toddler in tow. Next up I will be trying is there tempting brunch menu - hard to find a good brunch place in Richmond. I mean, this is a place that serves cookies and milk! That's just thoughtful! ;)

We have been going for lunch fairly regularly for a while and have enjoyed the food and service. Today we went in, were told to sit anywhere so we did. Sat for over 10 minutes without anybody speaking to us. I went to the front and asked for menues and was told "they are over there." Once we had menues and had decided on food and drink we sat and sat and sat. One server studiously avoided looking at us while another cleaned up tables. Place not nearly as busy as we have seen. Finally we left and went to Brown's. Other than the menu thing nobody looked or spoke to us. Was SO WEIRD!

Joe's downtown (broadway) is way better. ordered our favorites and not the same, soggy and lukewarm. restaurant almost empty. staff very nice and friendly but dressed sloppy. ordered coke, got sprite. Ordered prosecco and they poured it in a huge wine glass. it's the little things. won't go back to richmond location

I've sent two emails and got a response.!! Service was great but food was horrible. $16 for a romaine lettuce salad won't ever be back to this location.
Kim Oldham
Worst service I have ever experienced. Arrived at 7:45 pm and it is now 9:35 and I still don't have my food. Will never come back
David da Silva
The service was very good but food was total crap. We won't be going there again.
Shannon Matsuyama
We've been sitting here for 20 minutes now....no server. We haven't even been asked if we want anything to drink. All we have are the menus the hostess gave us when she seated us. Getting up and leaving right about now!
Dorthy Doolie
Here's a suggestion, make it 19 and over if you aren't going to offer a high chair. Nothing like holding a baby while you're trying to eat. I'll never eat here again based on that alone.

Management sucks at this location! So unprofessional, take your money elsewhere!

Usually a good time but lately they always seem to be out of stuff.

Great place to go to for some solid pub food. I went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. They have drink & food specials for each day of the week.

On Sundays, they have $5 caesars and $1 off tankards. Our server also mentioned that they had "steak puppies" which includes a 6 ounce steak served on a brioche steak and a side for only $12.95. When I heard that I was like hells yeah!

So we ordered an order of the steak puppies with fries on the side. You also get a choice of dip for your fries between either gravy or their dill sauce. I selected the dill sauce and my partner on the other hand got the beef dip sandwich which came with two sides. He chose the fries and garlic brown rice along with a side of gravy as the sides.

The food was great, staff was attentive, and for a pub, the music was not too loud. Quiet enough to have conversations with friends. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in the area with greasy cravings.

Ace cheeseburger was really good and I like that they come with 2 sides. Server was nice and brought more rounds of drinks frequently which I Like. Great experience. will be back.
Lower Mainland Muncher
Their Kona burger is delicious!! I really like how their burgers come with 2 sides since I love variety. We came on game 7 of the basketball championship so the place was packed. Even so, it didn't seem to affect the speed and service. Their greek wings are also a must try.

I had a great BBQ Jack Daniels Burger on special the last time in. It was awesome in all its pretzel bun glory.
Last few times in, nothing but good food, beer and service!
Picky Diner
Morgan and I came to Original Joe’s, Ironwood, and we tried to work on some project planning over a casual dinner. I wish someone had told me about their Monday special, Fish Tacos – they looked amazing on the table next to us. But the food on our table was not so impressive.

Morgan’s Five Cheese Tortellini ($15.50 + $5.00 for adding chicken) was dry and had very little sauce on it. He had to ask for more sauce. But the new sauce was obviously whipped up in a rush and tasted a bit watered down. Morgan also paid extra 5 dollars for adding a few slices of chicken which was only slightly charred and had very little flavor. I was not expecting top notched pasta dishes here because we were not at Ask for Luigi, but I thought they should be at least restaurant quality? The whole plate of food costs over 20 bucks and it’s the worst pasta dish I have ever seen.

Horrible experience. Went for a bite to eat with friends. It was our first time visiting this location and the place was not busy on a Wednesday night. Service started off great, beers came quickly, waitress was friendly. All was well until we placed our orders. Then the waitress disappeared. We sat for over half an hour without food. Tables that arrived after we did received their dishes. Not once did our waitress come over to ask us if we'd like another round or to tell us that the food was going to take a while. After waiting over 45 minutes I went to ask another member of the staff where our food went. They said it would be another 5 minutes. We waited 10 minutes and nothing. Paid for our beers and left. Horrible service! Will not return.

Service was great! My friends and I (a group of 8) did not make any reservations on a busy night and they were still very accomodating. The food was great and our server, Claudia, who was only on her 2nd shift did a wonderful job taking care of us. She was fast, friendly and she really went the extra mile to make sure that we had more than everything we needed. Would recommend this place to everyone looking for the same experience.

Great beer selection here. Lots of choices. I hate going places and they all have the same menu. Two sides with your burger. Wow! Lots of tv's. Decent food. I couldn't finish the grilled cheese burger. Too big!

Original Joes is one of our favorite places to eat... This was our first visit to the Richmond location and our last. I would suggest if you wanted to check out oj's to try the south surrey, Langley or cloverdale location where you will find friendly great staff unlike Richmond who's staff walked around like unfriendly, zero personality zombies! Wings were overcooked and dry... I see many people have commented on this on here maybe they should rethink the way they are cooking them?
Mrbrushface
Check your Bill carefully. Our waitress wasn't vey attentive. She messed up our bill 3x (overcharging for items I didn't order) after which I had to stii her on tip.

Went here for lunch. Took 50 mins before food arrive and is only salad and quesadilla for few people. Was about to leave but couldn't find the Waitress bc she was always inside the kitchen and no where to be found when needed. Food is horribly bad, as if they scrambled left overs together. Horrible place. Save your time and money and don't go.

To start off flat beer .... To start off

flat beer

cold poutine

burnt fish tacos

horrible service

don't waste your money

fast food is better than this place.

Failure on pub food. Got 35 cent wings here- Cajun & Caribbean jerk. Good wings aren't difficult to make- but these were dry, tough, and badly seasoned. Cajun ones were awful, as they deep fried and then covered them in Cajun seasoning. It tasted like raw, powdery spices- which is exactly why everywhere else coats the wings in the spices and THEN fries them. No brainer. Caribbean jerk was tossed in bottled sauce, which is expected at most places. Such simple mistakes. Service was friendly, so no complaints there. Bathrooms were clean. Won't return, that's for sure.

Original Joe's No Go. Hi All

I wanted to bring to your attention about a issue i had the last time i was at Original Joe's. The last time i was there was for a Monday Night Football game (Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons). There was a Jersey draw that they were giving away in which you would receive a raffle ticket per each beverage bought. I was informed that the draw would take place at the start of the 3rd quarter. However that was not the case, when i noticed that that the jersey that they were raffling away was not having up by the TV's i inquired with our server, where she then said to me the they had already done the draw. They never announced the draw but after following up with our server again she informed me that the Bartender had marked the winning ticket with a pen. Which is fine, however when the winner of the jersey is one of the bartenders friends, then it raises questions. Especially afterwards the bartender is providing free drinks for them and then telling them to come by again the following week to win the next jersey.

Now before i go on, this may sound like someone lost a raffle draw and is wanting to complain, but this is not the case. If the draw was conducted fairly i would not be posting this nor complaint on the matter.

So afterwards i sent a email to the Original Joe's info address to inform them about this, and here is where i felt that i got the "too bad tough luck" saying. I had sent a email giving them the full details of what happen even providing names for my server, and the bartender in question. I got a response back with the basic sorry your visit was not great response. However the next part of the email was where i question the fact if they care about their customers. The person that responded to the email had said that "i can confirm that it was a sever that made the draw". Unless he was there he cannot prove that! I was there i asked my sever and she said that the bartender made the draw. So are they calling me a liar? Was i drunk? Was i not paying attention?

When i responded back that i would be going to restaurant review sites to let people know about this they sent me a eCard. Now yes that would be fine but how does that do justice to the fact that the bartender gets away with this and people continue to come in and try to get a chance to win a prize equally but some employee thinks that is not the case. Based on this matter i went to the person that i had been going back and forth with via email and said that a eCard is nice but why would this make me want to come back? I said that i want the prize that was suppose to be given away that day (yes it sounds greedy but being called a liar is not something i find appropriate for a company to say to a customer).

So if you plan on going to Original Joe's to win a prize that they are offering, think twice because unless you are friends with people that work there you will not only spend extra money on getting a chance at winning but will ultimately lose.

Not a bad place to hang out. I checked out the Original Joe's in Richmond and all in all its not a bad place to have a beer or too. I had a full rack of ribs with mash potatoe and caesar salad. The paprika on the ribs is kinda obvious which i'm not used to so I know they used a dry rub on the ribs. I also ordered calamari which was a bit dry, it was pretty crunchy couldn't really taste the squid. The service was not bad, the server pretty much left me alone the whole time except when i needed another beer. The other thing i noticed was that the place was empty, there were only 5 people when I came in including whichis too bad. pretty quiet and with the nhl lock out, it will be even more quieter in the upcoming months.

I like the fact that they have lots of big tv at every corner of the bar so it doesn't matter where you sit, you can catch all the action. Plus they have free Wi-Fi.

So overall I would give it 7 out of 10.

So if you live around the area, you should check it out.

Paul

Food is okay, but a lil bit dry! The most annoying was our server(35), she's not even approachable, i can say that she has the attitude. Service in this restaurant is totally ridiculous! Food is just average. It's my first time to go to this place, and most likely my last time!

Not Very Good. The Roundhouse sandwich was dry and the bacon uncooked. When I mentioned this to the waitress she offered "to crisp the bacon up for me" - but crispiness was not the issue, it was raw. Also ordered poutine and was brought regular fries but the poutine was showing incorrectly on the bill. Nothing was offered to help out with the botched meal (delete from the bill or offer a drink? dessert? etc). The service was mediocre, at best. Would not go again.

Free wings deal got me here. I got a hold of one of those free wings for a year coupons they were giving out when they opened in richmond...that was what got me here!

i really enjoy their selection of flavouring for the wings and the french onion soup is YUMMO!
Grido LeTram
Close but no cigar.... The Pulled Pork Sandwich had the right texture, right moisture, right temperature... but WAY too spicy and lacked the sweetness. The fries were very good and the gravy was excellent. The dessert portion was over the top (Dirt Pie) and had a "generic" taste to it.
All in all, a good place to go... but avoid the pulled pork if you are used to the "real sauce" which is usually sweeter.

Not for me. Original Joe's has great intentions but the food didn't live up to the menu's promise in the descriptions. My double wiener dog with sauerkraut, peppered bacon should have been packed flavour but was bland with a stale bun. The weeny was grissly, the mango pasta salad was herby, no mango and a tri-coloured mess. My husbands Jambolaya with Orzo was a hot tomato pasta salad with a big of heat. What's my point? Restaurants please don't try to make your food SOUND good... make it TASTE GOOD!

Maybe my expectations where too high. That's what happens when you can actually taste a description before eating it.

The menu has changed since we've been there but will not go back to see if it's any better.
HillyBilly
Pretty good. Okay, I'm cheap. So after ordering, I didn't like the fact the waitress dropped off the condiments in a basket with cutlery, but didn't place the cutlery around... nit picking I guess, but we had already ordered and looked at the prices. Not inexpensive so expecting a little more.
I ordered the Cobb salad, son ordered burger with cheese(add$), sauteed veggies (add$) and fries, and wifey ordered fish tacos. Calamari as an appy.

Really the only disappointing part of the meal was the Calamari, very thin-shoe string? A bit chewy. over cooked or double cooked perhaps? The larger chunks were okay.
Burger , fries and veggis all good, salad was good and fish tacos (mmmmm liked the salsa) were good. Good portions on everything except maybe the Calamari. Plus a glass of milk, bill came to around $54 - not inexpensive.
Overall the food was good. Service was good, waitress was nice and was around if needed.

Will return. but pass on the calamari.

There burgers and sandwiches are pretty good, but stay away from their wings; they are too dry and lack taste. Overall, a great place to go.

This place has the sports bar formula down to a science. The Eichmond one is nice and new, spacious, and comfy. You have a good view of the whole place, and always can see at least two giant tv's. I think the burgers here are pretty good, and one of the best ideas is letting you have your choice of two sides (out of 8 or 10 options), because sometimes I don't want fries or a caesar salad. They also have a good beer selection, including some exceptional local brews on tap. I like this place as a burger stop just before going to a movie at the Riverport Theatres.
Sacrilicious
Pretty good. I've eaten here twice, it was decent both times. I like that you get two sides with a burger, the service was friendly, there basically wasn't really anything to dislike.

the hamburger patty was mediocre, but definitely edible. my sister really, really liked it, however.

I will go back.
Elaine
Horrible Wings. My table had more than 100 wings. All of them were dry. For the same price, you would be better off going to Flying Beaver or Legend's in Richmond for wings night. The only good thing about this restaurant is the fact that you can always find seats during wings night, because not many people go there.
Rikapree Choudra
Mm... not bar food are all the same. Service was orite but food was below average. Should have actaully gone to BP instead of Original Joe's.

Seriously,,, did any of the cook tasted the food before you serve them? My gravy was salty, hot dog tasted like something i could microwave myself at below $2.

A few days ago, I met up with my bestie for dinner, and we settled on Original Joe’s in Richmond. It wasn’t too busy of a night, but the tables we wanted in the corners were mostly full. We were lucky to find one after waiting a bit, but the table was smaller, and the area was noisier, than we hoped it to be. Thankfully, the waitress was attentive and polite! We’ve been a couple of times to this restaurant, but everywhere we go, we always order Calamari. So, of course, that was the first and only appetizer we ordered! For the main, K got the Grilled Cheese Burger, with 2 sides: Caesar Salad and Homecut Fries and I decided on the California Cobb, with the balsamic berry vinaigrette. The Calamari was decent, but I’ve always preferred the batter to be more ‘crunchy’ and the texture of the actual squid to be tender but chewy. However, at Original Joe’s, I’ve found that they have a somewhat soggy texture and mushy squid, with a melt-in-your-mouth kind of batter, which I guess I don’t mind?
Every Day Is A Food Day
Original Joes in Richmond is tucked away on Steveston Highway, a bit further away from the rest of the restaurants in Ironwood Mall. Anyways, we sat outside in their small patio area. I chose the Raspberry Burst , which included vodka, raspberry syrup, sprite and lime juice. You can’t taste too much of the alcohol, so I really enjoyed the drink. A hint of sweetness and very refreshing. Joe’s Sangria K chose Joe’s Sangria . It had red wine, Scotch, Triple Sec with lemon, lime, pineapple and fresh orange juice. H

Now when my friends asked if I wanted to go to Original Joe’s for lunch on Sunday, I had no idea what they were on about. "Y’know, that bar that opened up in Ironwood awhile back.”

Original Joe’s is a really casual restaurant/bar/pub serving up traditional pub food made from scratch!
