Review Manzo - Richmond

Greeted on entry and sat right away. The location is small and dark with Japanese pop music playing. You order beer and or sake, and a bunch of small plates. They give u a snack on the house which is raw cabbage which u dip in a soy sauce and garlic mixture. Which was really good. We had the house sake which was hot. It was smooth and reasonably priced. The food was fast and tasty. We tried a variety of their food from Seafood to their izakaya grilled meats. Cool Japanese pub feel.

Overall horrible service. The story was I ordered salmon salad but salmon sashimi was served. During the time I went out for buying a bubble tea for my wife, the wrong food was served and my wife did not really pay attention toward what I ordered, she ate one piece of sashimi; when I returned and made the complaint toward another manager lady, she grabbed the waitress who served the wrong food, the waitress admitted that she accidentally served the wrong food by saying “yeah yeah yeah, I served wrong food” then her communication stopped there, but her tone really sounded like it’s my fault or it’s not big of a deal by serving some similar food. Then the manager lady kept saying that we already ate one piece with a horrible attitude. I never even expected them to swop or refund me, just wanted to clarify that I ordered salmon salad, all I want from them is just pay more of attention, that’s it, if the waitress can’t remember what I ordered by memory then just write it down on a piece of paper. All of them really made it sound like it’s actually my fault for making a complain when they served the wrong food. My worst experience ever, been a loyal customer at this restaurant for 10 years, will never go there again.

Eating here consistently would put poor Poo in poverty... this place is not easy on your wallet and you definitely pay the Richmond premium here. Despite that, the food and drink selection is really good, with plenty of great sake to choose from like Dassai. PP absolutely loved the sashimi platter, especially the Akami which was so fresh and firm. The skewers, like the fried intestines, were nice and crunchy, not chewy, and the bacon wrapped quail eggs 1st class. Even better than Zakkushi’s and that’s saying something! Great food, good service, but unfortunately overpriced to make this a regular visit 💸

Great izakaya place to hang out with friends. Not the most traditional taste but won't fail you either. Orders came out in timely manners, inclusive of add on orders. Lots of Japanese sake to choose from, but it may get really pricy. Friendly and attentive services. Overall, I will like the place more if they mark down the menu price.

Great izakaya place! We came on a Thursday night and it was not busy. Service was attentive and prompt. Everything was very tasty especially the deep fried baby octopus! You gotta try. Great dishes to go with beer. Love the interior. Made me feel like I was in Japan. Only downside is that it's on the pricier side.

This is a fantastic Izakaya joint. They have terrific skewers (beef tongue and bacon wrappers asparagus are great). They have multiple tofu dishes, cold and warm noodles, rice plates, sushi and more. Beer/liquor selection is ok with a focus on asian liquors. The free tea is tasty but their juice drinks are ok as well. Parking is from the back or paid street parking. On busy nights this fills up quickly. Limited seating and they can only handle small groups unless you get the two sectioned off tables at the front. Transit is close but the Canada line is several blocks away.

The servers are friendly and the food is great, will visit more often

Good service, small portions in comparison with the price but their food is very tasty. Try the udon! Loved the grilled chicken skewers

Food and service was great! Sushi was fresh and thick. Big portions. Also liked the udon noodles. Tried beef and chicken udon. I would recommend the beef udon. The chicken meat didn't have enough flavor but the broth for both was amazing.

My friends and I came here for drinks only around 11pm and were surprised that the waitress was extremely rude and told us we needed to pay an extra $50 of food since we had only ordered drinks. We asked if we could order another sake but she refused and told us we had to order another $50 of food in order to get our drinks. On their menu, it says there is a minimum $20 charge of food per person but this is extremely ridiculous. Most restaurants only require $5-10 minimum charge per person and it doesn't matter if it's food or drinks. Won't be coming back for sure.

I use to be a regular customer from day one when the had their grand opening. Over the years service has gone down hill, really down hill. I must have spent atleast ten grand here over the years eating at this location. With alot of competition with better quality and better prices, I've even told all my friends to go elsewhere. Yes it's a great place to socialize and eat, but I rather go to zakushi or gu. Atleast their staff would appreciate my money...I think manzo is now loosing money hence the minimum 20/person charge.<br/><br/>0/5 for service<br/>3/5 for food<br/>0/5 for value.<br/>

January, 20, 2017<br/>I was planning to go to try korean wings, but we need to wait for an hour for the seats. It's end up... I went to Manzo restaurant with my hubby instead. We had white tuna sashimi/ uni sashimi/ rack of lamb/ oyster motoyaki/ chicken yakiudon/ chicken livers skewers/ chicken hearts skewers/ grilled saba/ prawn gyoza and beer for dinner with hubby tonight. The waiter told us to sit at extremely small table, but they helped us to change to bigger table after they heard us ... want to leave. They got 1 waiter and 4 waitress work in small restaurant. But only 2 people are really working. Rest of them are chatting. I paid CAD $170 for 2 of us.. it's pretty pricey. The menu that you find from this app.... the price is not updated.<br/><br/>I got stomachache and diarrhea after dinner... maybe from the white tuna sashimi, because I found out that... it's not really from tuna fish, after I google it...<br/>"The escolar, Lepidocybium flavobrunneum, a species of fish in the family Gempylidae, is found in deep (200–885 metres (656–2,904 ft)) tropical and temperate waters around the world. It is also known as snake mackerel, walu walu (Hawaiian, also seen written waloo), and is sometimes fraudulently sold as "butterfish" or "white tuna", a matter aggravated by potential health problems related to consumption of escolar.<br/>Escolar cannot metabolize the wax esters (Gempylotoxin) naturally found in its diet. This gives the escolar an oil content of 14–25% in its flesh. These wax esters may cause gastrointestinal distress in humans called “steatorrhea”, the onset of which may occur between 30 minutes and 36 hours following consumption. Symptoms may include stomach cramps, bright orange oil in stool, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and anal leakage.” Ew. Also, “Because of the possible effects of consumption, escolar has been banned from consumption in Japan since 1977, as the Japanese government considers it toxic.” I think I’m done eating white tuna."<br/><br/>In 2016<br/>I Went to Manzo restaurant for midnight snack with my brother and sister in law after picked them up from airport. My hubby and I finished dinner around 10pm.... we are not that hungry...We had 2 orders of white tuna sashimi (it's so fresh/ sweet/ melt in my mouth, we ordered one.. we love it and ordered another one, $35.99 / order), Toro sashimi (so disappointed, taste like regular tuna to us, not worth $20/ 6pcs),wild Hamachi sashimi (too hard, not worth for $35), mirugai sashimi (waiter told me it's 1 pound order, but look like 1/4 to me, but worth for $36), big clams sashimi (half cook, not worth for $20), bbq beef tongue skewers(extremely salty), bbq chicken gizzard(tasteless), grilled Tamago(took them an hour to make it), 2 bottle of large kirin beer. It's around $250 for 4 people

Beware! Each customer has to spend at least $20 (not including alcohol), we did not know this type of thing existed. The menu says $15 (which was shocking enough), but when we started ordering the waiter informed us in a very rude manner that we had to spend at least $20 each.<br/><br/>There were eight of us in our party, our plan was to share the dishes and order a few drinks as well. Again, the menu clearly states $15 per person, so we are not sure why he told us we had to spend $20. We stopped ordering and left. We ended up going to Matsuyama across the street (much cheaper and nicer staff). Don't give these people your hard earned money, stay away!

If you're looking for a spot to enjoy some brews and meat on a stick and the company around you, this is a great spot.  Not a lot of tables, but that's to be expected being located on Alexandra Road.  Lot's of other food on the menu, which I will be going back to try for sure.

Back during winter break, one of our friends came to visit from Calgary and had one specific dining request: somewhere with amazing takoyaki. One thing I don’t like about this area of Richmond is how hard it is to find parking! Since there are so many restaurants, parking is hard to find and their lot is always full on weekends. The restaurant is pretty cramped, dark, and not that comfortable to sit in. Takoyaki, $6.95: Since there were six of us and everyone loves takoyaki, we ordered three plates of it. In retrospect, perhaps we should have only ordered one, plus more if it was good. Throat was lacerated after eating there. I had a FISH BONE from a takoyaki (octopus balls with absolutely no fish in it) that I ordered lodged in my throat for 10 minutes. After I got rid of the fish bone, my throat was so sore I couldn't eat anymore. My throat was lacerated for a few days after until it healed and I could eat solids again... 0/10 would not recommend!!!

My first and LAST visit!. I HONESTLY REGRET TRYING MANZO FOR THE FIRST TIME! I heard a lot of bad service in this restaurant, my friend couldn't wait anymore for our reservation from another restaurant so we give a try. At first the service was fine since it's not busy. We got one of our order after 20 mins. I notice the other table who just arrived got their food so quickly! I asked the lady about the rest of our orders and all she said was "yes, I know you still don't have your order" thanks for freaking notice B****! We wait for another 30 mins before the get the rest of our order while the other table got their order within 20 mins and we waited for ours for 1.5 hours! The food was not even great! Before you try a restaurant make sure it's authentic or else you are just wasting your money!

My fiancé and I went to this restaurant quite a bit for ther Robata and they were always really good BUT yesterday was the worst service I got. I went to Manzo with my family for dinner. We got there at around 7. We ordered and had to wait around 15 mins for our food to come. Then they started coming one after the other so not bad. But for the last dish we ordered, we had to wait quite a but around 15-20mins and when it came, they gave us the wrong one so we sent it back. We then asked we can cancel it instead since we've been waiting for quite a while already. They told us they started cooking already and it will take 10-15 mins for one order of chicken gizzards. We're like "wow that's too long" but they refused to cancel it and the manager told us to wait for 5-10 mins. So we did. After 20 mins we followed up again and they told us that it was already cooked. Turns out they gave it to another table and blamed us for canceling! BS! They told us to wait!! They gave us te cost of the one order, not including tax and tip we paid for it. terrible! Not going back to Manzo again!

Food was okay. Sashimi was pretty fresh but the service was really disappointed. For no reason , one of the waitress hated our table for no reason. There are many other japanese restaurants nearby and we won't come back for sure.

Make up ur mind. They kept changing this place, first it was hot pot all you can eat with the choice noodle like cattle cafe. now its bento lunch box....way expensive for food court quality food. and the hot pot, they change it to manzo hot pot with no all you can eat. but they still do the same trick asking u if i want special without telling u the price . and will shock u when u see the bill for the special fo the day.....just awful business practice .

MANZO IZAKAYA is located on Alexandra Road in Central Richmond. I used come here often with J for beer and Japanese tapas, and skewers to eat with. This place gets a bit crowded after dinner time especially on weekends. They offer a wide range of sake, cocktails, beer and so much more.

As I had remembered it, Manzo had all the good stuff from sashimi to rarer items such as dobinmushi and o-chazuke. However, after today’s meal, it was clear that times have drastically changed. My experience was not enjoyable.

Monkey's special dish in store for me and it's.... A-W-E-S-O-M-E. A few skewers of this and a bottle of Sapporo and we're gonna be alright for the night.... I know what some of you will say, "Ew! That's disgusting! You're eating only the skin of the chicken???!!!". Monkey and I had a discussion of this and we decided that if you don't want to try it, you're the missing out. It's called head to tail consumption, where every bit of the animal should be used and in this case, it's used extremely well. There is more crispiness than fatty skin - just think of pork rinds but grilled over a flame, served hot with charcoal undertones and OH SO MORE DELICIOUS.

Manzo Japanese Restaurant is located on Alexandra Road in Richmond. We came here for some more drinks and smaller dishes to pick at, so an Izakaya was the perfect idea. They have been around for over a decade and they also have another restaurant on Capstain Way. It is dim inside and has a lot of cool items on all the walls like lanterns, pictures and signs. Service was ok, but they couldn’t answer a few questions about the alcohol on the menu as they didn’t know the size of a small or large sake. 750ml Bottle of Gekkeikan was about $29. Price was a bit high since you know you can buy this for really cheap at the alcohol store. Of course the prices would be much higher in a restaurant. The bottle lasted us a while, so it wasn’t too bad. Edamame ($2.50) was on special. Mentaiko Agedashi Tofu was a delicious item! The salty topping with the mentiko mixture was salty, but it blended nicely with the agedashi tofu, which was bit more bland. Kawahagi is a file fish. It is thin an crispy kinda like dried cuttlefish found in grocery stores. Deep Fried Baby Octopus was delicious. Anything deep-fried is an addiction. Grilled Beef Tongue Skewers were really yummy. Perfectly cooked, tender and had great flavour. Some items are quite pricey like sashimi. Their Izakaya items are ok, but there’s nothing very special about what they offer. We Rate Manzo :  Address: 8391 Alexandra Rd Richmond, BC More food reviews on Foodology .

The sashimi surpassed my expectations, reminding me that the quality of seafood is high in Vancouver—even in places not necessarily known for fish. The robata and kitchen items were also very good. Highlights of the dinner included, clockwise from the top left, a sashimi platter (with aji, kinmedai, amaebi, saba, and salmon), a plate of “yakitori” (enoki beef maki, tsukune, and chicken), live hotate yaki (grilled scallop), and my favorite dish of the meal: kamo no mustard (duck slices in sauce with spicy mustard).
