Review Gyu-kaku Japanese Bbq - Richmond

AMAZING! The food is incredible and the service was great! Reasonable price too. Got the Yakiniku Party set that had enough food for 4 people. Every dish was delicious! Raymond was great. It was my first time here and he explained how everything worked. He was very nice and helpful. He made the dinner experience a great one. Thank you for a wonderful dinner! Cheers!

I think this bbq has high quality meats, from chicken/pork and seafood! Enjoyed the food! Our server Raymond was also very helpful and provided exceptional service for my first time here! I also like their beer cocktails! I thought that was different! They were very refreshing and a perfect beverage for the food! Will definitely be back!

🌟Trying to make reservations all the time but can’t get through the phone calls. So just went to the store and wait for an hour;( 🌟The quality of the meat is just at average level, ordered a three person meal, a little bit too many for us. LOVE the salad and sweet corn(!! Literally SO GOOD). Dessert was okay but just too full to taste them. 🌟Service was OK, the waitress looks too busy to explain what the meat is and how to cook to make it taste better. 🌟Will try again on a weekday, don’t want to wait for too long;))

I tried their other location on Broadway, that's why I am a bit disappointed about the Richmond one. The seats are not comfortable. Lighting too dark. Overall environment is not very enjoyable. Food is average but service is above average. Price is fair too. If you like Japanese grill, it could be a good choice.

First of all, the wait time is a bit long. I made a reservation for 7:30, and they didn’t set me food till 8:20. Took them a long time to serve the appetizer. Secondly, the fried food is not that great, chicken karage is not crispy and it was not piping hot when it was served. The taiyaki tasted like oil. Felt like it was re-fried too many times and it soaked up so much oil during the process. You taste nothing but oil. The bbq was good. The matcha tiramisu was still partly frozen when it was served. The plate is warm, so the bottom of the cream was melting while the top of the cake was still frozen….

It’s our third time dining here, and every time we crave for bbq grill, we frequent this place as its quite nearby our home plus the food is great. The meat marinate is delicious especially for pork and chicken paired with their shredded cabbage with roasted garlic sides. Beef wise, just ok for me. I love how the taste of that burnt charcoal on the meat is incorporated. We also ordered for takoyaki, karaage , crispy bacon , shrimp with mayo for appetizer, but actually you can pair it with rice as main. Takoyaki is not cheap tasting, my wife loves the shrimp with mayo though I find it salty for me but it is really good. Karaage on the other hand is good though I wish it could have been crispier while the crispy bacon is just right ,you can dash a pinch of salt and lemon juice too for both . We also ordered for kids menu, similar to adult choices but in small portions. It comes with corn kernels , chicken and pork marinate for grill and green beans. Small portion but serves like an adult combo meal for a kid. As for dessert, we tried the smores, and matcha tiramisu. It’s cool that they will provide you skewers to roast the marshmallows and put it in the crackers with chocolate slices . The matcha , tiramisu is not too sweet, you can taste the “tea” in it which is not overpowering. Service wise, staff is courteous, customer service is fantastic. They will make dining experience with convenience and comfort The best part is that I thought our order will come up to a hundred over dollars but surprisingly, its only $67 and that included the tax and tip. I gave 4 stars because of the long waiting time.with or without appointment.

Honestly, this has become my go to for Korean/Japanese BBQ. I Can't stop raving about how flavorful the meat is!! We ordered the chefs favorites for 2 people and we walked out full. The sauces add an extra kick of flavor to the already tasty food. I highly recommend this place. Service was exceptional as well. Very friendly and attentive to your needs.

First time I had gyukaku was in Japan, this one was just as good quality as the ones in Japan! Very good stuff love gyukaku, only one minor thing is the rice is not as good as the Japan ones but Rice in Japan is very good so not their fault on that. Overall very good stuff and fun place to eat.

Great food and service! Our server, Kevin (Richmond location) is awesome! We got the Shogun - good for 6 - there's only 4 of us BUT we finished everything except for the rice ďż˝

Amazing restaurant! Major Kudos to our server Troy (I think that's his name). It was the first time me and my family tried Japanese BBQ and he explained everything perfectly. I will be back for sure! Thank you Troy and the Gyu Kaku staff for an incredible experience!!!

First time at Richmond location. Long wait and many tables available, waited almost an hour. Seemed kind of unorganized to get people seated. Service was fast and friedly once seated. Food was delish as always

Long waits, however the redeeming factors are : great servers, good food, plenty of choices for drinks.

Grabbed dinner here with a couple old college friends. Ordered far too much food as per usual. Our server was quite friendly and hospitable. On the whole one of the better hot places I've been to. Huge portions, quick, friendly and efficient service with great value to boot (for what we paid we got a ridiculous amount of food imo) Although admittedly some of the appetizer offerings were forgettable e.g. calamari. Despite the former I'm glad I gave Gyu Kaku Richmond a try. If you're a hot pot lovers/carnivores/value-minded diner this place is a safe bet.

Awesome food, awesome service as always

Love the vibe of the staff. That is what I call service. No matter how busy they are, they always have a smile on their face. Well done!

I recently went here with a party of six and we ordered two set meals which were meant for four people. I was really excited because any concept of bbq I love. However, I was kind of let down that the portions were really small and not great quality either. (But take into a fact that we ordered for four people but had six so many I was just under fed) A huge plus thought is that unlike most korean bbq places, this place had high ceilings and fans so that I didn’t smell when I walked out later on.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to go there since it opened. I made reservations last week for today. 6pm to 8pm must be the busiest times because on opentable I only had the choice between 530pm or 830pm. We opted for 530pm.
Reservations are highly recommended unless you enjoy waiting in line.

Being in Richmond, there was ample parking on the north side of the building. We had artived 15 mintues earlier but was asked to wait til our schedled time. In a split second we were seatef. Service staff were all friendly and attentive. Loved the high ceiling, table seating and atmosphere. We chose one of the platters for 2. Extremely tasty and was surprised how full we were and had room for dessert. We definitely will be back to try the other sharing platters. Way to go!!!

came here during dinner and ordered what i usually ordered in other gyukaku location, the only reason why my friend love going to this place is the sauce that they marinate the meat with. it's above average for sure and the food that we tasted is similar to other gyukaku places, definitely likeable but i like to explore new restaurants instead.

New location in Richmond with 2 locations in Vancouver. This restaurant specializes in BBQ with "small plate" style dining. Love how it is super interactive as you cook your own meal. Servers are really good at letting you know how long to cook your food for.

Was busy on a weekend when we arrived at 630 pm. Was told the wait would be an hour but we waited for only 30 mins.

Menu is quite extensive especially in the protein department. I recommend getting the combos as they come with a variety of meats, vegetables and sides. Some even come with dessert!

All the meats were fresh and flavourful. They give you 3 types of sauces to dip with and most times I didn't even need the sauces.

Sides/appetizers were prepared well. Salad had a light refreshing dressing. Chicken karagge was fresh, hot and crisp. Beef stone pot rice was flavourful. Tad downfall was the rice was too wet perhaps too much water. The broccoli was also good with a hint of garlic butter.

Service was great. The server checked on us many times and also came by to clear off dishes and offer drink refills. Also changed our grill halfway through our meal.

Ample parking. No reservations offered at the moment.

Will definitely be back!
