Review Deer Garden Signatures - Richmond

Food that I ordered was good but i had no idea how to order and no one explained. They can be little more kind to customers.

Deer Garden is a little hard to find, as it is on the upper level of the complex. Go up the ramp and there is some parking right by the restaurant. Seated right away and menu is accessible via QR code (which links to the website). The menu is quite extensive, which can be a good thing. Ordered three dishes and three drinks. Beef curry, pork cutlet with egg on rice, and custom noodle bowl. Also ordered a hot lemon tea, cold honey lemon tea, and milk tea and coffee. Service was quite prompt and staff spoke both Chinese and English. Cash only! Would definitely recommend going.

Like the place for different variety of soups and rice dishes. Good bbt too

Do they know how to cook rice vermicelli? Not just 3 min product My stomach has an attack honestly! Their soup and other stuff are good Two stars being deleted because they are not doing good Please teach your staff don't cook HARD rice vermicelli

Great little place for noodles where you write down your choices of soup stock, ingredients and drinks for a base price of under $12. Serving size is above average and came with generous portions of meat. Parking can be a challenge during peak times (we were there at 6:15pm). Service was prompt and friendly. Food was delicious!

The best fish soup in town. Lots of choices other than fish soup noodles. I give 4 stars because I still want them to improve.

I have been coming here since 2012 or so and their soup noodle combo is one of my favorite comfort foods. Service is decent, food comes fast and is always consistent. Unfortunately, over the years, their prices have skyrocketed, their portions got smaller and their soup tastes more diluted. I highly recommend the malay laksa soup base for first timers. It is flavorful and has a nice kick for spicy-lovers! The sides that come you can order with your combo are also delicious; the chicken wings and pork with magi sauce are my favorites. However, I don't think the quantity you get is worth the $3.25. Overall, I still love their food but I find myself coming less and less as their prices increase.

One of the original places for fish soup noodle. Even though their prices have almost doubled since they first opened, they still have the mini fish soup noodle set available. I really like their milk tea and iced lemon tea too.

Hello hello! Snow season has finally hit Vancouver two weeks into February. It’s a little on the late side and for the last few weeks it was really looking like it wasn’t going to come this year but here we are snow, slush, sleet and all. I miss the old days when I was a kid and snow meant either no school or we get to make snow forts/people all day. Now it means 1) how much am I going to need to shovel, 2) how am I going to get to work, and 3) how am I going to get home from work. At times like these, I wish I wasn’t so much of an adult. Although arguably, the kids at school are probably going to convince us to take them out to play in the snow over the next few days so I guess in a sense, I do get to have childish fun too.

There are two locations in Richmond, we decided to go to the one on Capstan Way since there’s more parking at this location. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes, which was expected since it was a busy Saturday night!

this place has gone downhill over the years... the portions are smaller while the prices have increased, the soup is full of msg, they didn’t bring us our drinks until we almost finished our drinks and most importantly they were super rude. They accused us of not giving enough tips in a very angry tone of voice even though they didn’t even correctly count the cash. Take your money and go to bubble waffle instead, it’s way cheaper and you don’t have to deal with rude staff.

Well Old Xian isn't open during the hours posted on Zomato. The good news is that there are a few other restaurants in the area (you get the joke, right?). This is not my first visit to Deer Garden. I always intend to order a baked dish but to be honest, the extra 20 minutes does not seem fair to the people behind us waiting for a table. This is a busy place. Some day, I will get smart and order in advance. In the meantime, there are other amazing things to eat here. The soup combinations are great. My partner ordered the Laksa base soup with thick noodles, deep fried fish cake and Enoki mushrooms. It came with lots of fresh button mushrooms and tofu skin also. Very good. We ordered fried fish filet on the side and my partner loves Taro bubble tea, each of which are a small adder. I had the Malaysian curried brisket (totally my weakness) which was great! Lots of meat (I left a little pile of fat behind as it is not my favorite thing). It came with a side of rice and tater tots! I can't tell you the last time that I had tater tots and had a good chuckle over this! I had 7up with salted lemon as a drink and this was refreshing and interesting. The service is seriously  efficient and friendly. Realize that many people want to eat and that you are not the centre of the universe and you will be treated well.

Great food. The service is very quick and efficient, but they aren't there to make small talk (so don't take it personally). Their build-your-own noodle is great (so are the sides with them). I personally recommend the laksa soup and the current beef brisket. They're also known for their "fish noodles". Drinks are standard and good. Would definitely recommend, but keep in mind it is cash only.

August 13, 2017.<br/><br/>I went there for lunch today. I didn't go there at least 4 years. Their food still taste awful and rude services.<br/><br/>2 of us had:<br/>Beef brisket / pork rib rice round noodles in minced pork cabbage soup --- I only can find 3 thin strips of beef briskets/ 1 small boiled pork rib with tons of shredded cabbages on noodles in tasteless soup. It's not worth for $12.<br/><br/>Beef/ beef briskets/ fish cake flat noodles in laksa soup --- my friend only can find 3 cube hard like a rock fish tofu / chewy sliced beef / few tiny strips briskets in red orange color/ non spicy and tasteless soup. My friend asked for extra spicy sauce and they charged us 50 cents for it and it's not even spicy, just oily.<br/><br/>Taro root bubble tea --- I can find chunky milk powder inside the cup/ they didn't mix it well with the powder/ hard like rock chewy pearls/ the drinks was extremely sweet, even i waited till ice melted.<br/><br/>Ice coffee and milk tea --- can't taste any coffee inside/ taste like syrup with powder milk with ice<br/><br/>We also ordered:<br/>Deep fried fish -- nothing special<br/>Pan fried teriyaki chicken --- omg.. it's cold and chewy<br/><br/>They gave us chicken wings, even we didn't order it... I gave them back... but they still charged me for it.<br/><br/>The tall/ square face/ black face guy was extremely rude, whenever they serve us and another tables.<br/><br/>They gave us bill, even we didn't ask for it and we still eating our food.<br/><br/>No wonder I didn't go there for long time?! Not busy and a lot of parking space around lunch time.<br/><br/>Won't go there again ..

The food was amazing but the service was average. The staff was too less and so providing services was harder. The beef streak and black bean mushroom sauce is too die for and so are their soups.

I come here every time I'm in Richmond. Nothing satisfies my Asian soul more than a steaming hot bowl of soup and noodles. My last visit was on Jul 12, 2017 and I arrived at 1840. The restaurant was quite full and I didn't have to wait for a seat. <br/><br/>If you've never been here before, it's a bit tricky to find. It's on the upper level of the shopping plaza and is accessible by a typical sketchy Chinese elevator. <br/><br/>How it works: choose your type of broth (anything from plain chicken to spicy laksa), choose your type of noodles (egg, rice, udon, fish), choose your toppings (all sorts of meats, veg, and unique items like pork blood or thousand year old egg), wait 5-10 minutes and enjoy. Always comes out boiling hot and fresh. Broth is always seasoned perfectly for my taste. Noodles are always perfectly done with a great chew on the egg and udon, soft and smooth on the rice. Price starts at $11.25 and I usually eat here for $15-17 depending on how hungry I am. They also have an a la carte menu but I've never looked at it because I'm always super happy with my bowl of noodles (always forget to take a picture because I'm so excited to dive right in). <br/><br/>It's a cafe style restaurant so don't expect the servers to be checking on you or having long conversations with you. Also don't expect a quiet dining experience, especially when the restaurant is full. Tables and chopsticks are very clean and decor is spartan. I've been here in the middle of the afternoon and later in the evening and this place is always hopping. It is a CASH ONLY establishment so bring a $20 and you'll have more than enough to cover your drink and a tip. You can't eat at too many places for that price.

Another frequent food stop for the boys so naturally I had to see what all the hype was about. Deer Garden is known for their broth dishes/combo variations so that's what I went with. I had: fish tofu and cuttlefish balls on a spicy broth egg noodle base with a side of deep-fried pork chop and a cold milk tea. With tip came to about $18; real bang-for-your-buck ✊ Portions were generous and filling! Service was so-so (our food came quick though) and restaurant decor was pretty standard all things considered. To sum up, an overall good and interesting dining experience. Eager to try more of DG's varied and expansive menu during future visits.
Nuinui The Cat
Good place for a cheap and quick meal. Their fish broth noodles is the most famous and the best part is you can make up your own combo. <br/>I especially like their stir fried turnip cake with XO sauce.
Lower Mainland Muncher
I love how I can customize my soup. The peanut chili broth is by far my favorite. The malay laksa is also very good. The service is quite terrible though. My server practically snatched our order sheets and stormed off. They don't check on you throughout the meal. FYI - they charge $0.50 for a takeout container. I've already paid my bill before I asked for the container and tried to tell my server that I only have $50 bills but she just walked off after rudely telling me "50 cents". She did come back with the container but shoved her hand our and asked for 50 cents again. I took my wallet out and showed her I have no change and only have 50s. She said fine and left. Ridiculous. I've eaten here and the Vancouver location quite a few times and they've never asked for me to pay for the container. I just can't believe how rude they are here. 2 stars only because I like their soup.

I had no idea deer garden had different locations. I recently ate at the Fraser street location and had a good experience. My honger friends and I were in Richmond, and they took me here.<br/><br/>The laksa broth is my favorite so far so I went with what I knew would suit me. The spicy peanut broth is also very delicious. Service is very fast and efficient here. Parking is a bit tight. And there's a ton of smokers out front lol.<br/><br/>
Veganbrah
The establishment was pretty hard to find considering it is located on the 2nd level of the plaza and has no sign. Service was meh. However the food was bomb, and reasonably priced. The Laksa was lit and so is the Curry rice dish. 4/5. Other than the hard to find location, would go again.
YVR Foodie
I enjoyed my meal here very much! I had the DIY noodle soup and chose the tomato pumpkin fish soup base with rice noodles, fish tofu, and deep fried fish balls. If you add a dollar you also get a special drink, I got the Honey Lemon tea. Was super filling and worth the price! I wish I lived in Richmond so I can enjoy the food there.

Deer Garden Signatures is a fairly popular chain restaurant. Never having been to the location at Venezia Place before, I had a difficult time actually finding it because it’s located on the second floor of this complex. Arriving for lunch, I decided to order the Malay Laksa Soup combo ($9.50) with egg noodles, sliced beef brisket, and homemade cuttlefish balls as well as a cold lemon tea (+$1).
BiteMe
dre in Richmond: We love Deer Garden. In fact, we like it so much, that we made all the cousins go there for dinner. The reason we like it so much is because we are able to choose the type of broth, noodles and toppings in our soup. The soup we can choose from isn't just MSG-loaded broth. You can choose from a fish-based soup, laksa, tom yum, and other choices.

Emily, Marian and I met up on a Monday mid morning for a walk at London/Steveston Park. Marian suggested the park because it’s walkable from her home. Since, it’s not walkable from my place, Emily came to pick me up. She drove to Steveston Community Park in Steveston Village and called Marian to meet us at the car park. Only then Emily realized we went to the wrong park. So, we drove back to London/Steveston Park. By then, Marian already completed 2 1/2 rounds of walk. We continued to walk for several more rounds.

Probably the best Deer Garden I've been to. Always had good service and spectacular food. I noticed not every franchise has the same quality and as I will mention again, best one I've been to so far.
Cakebabe
Best spot for noodle soup! I love the cilantro+century egg soup with rice noodles. Their beef brisket is very very fatty and thick cut though.
Cafeeeli
One of the best Noodle places around that's not pho. Love their soup base. You can select toppings as you like and is super customizable. Cold drinks charge extra and if you want any special drinks, it charges more(but I personally think it's worth it) side dishes are good too like the chicken wings and pork chop. There's also rice.
Vinita Trieu
Deer garden is the go to when I want noodle soup. Love the customizable noodles. I usually order laksa with udon :) so yummy, I love this cheap find!
Chocolove.88
Had the pan seared ox tongue as an appetizer and it was really good! <br/><br/>Ordered the noodles with beef brisket and pork stomach. The noodles come with veggies so the toppings you pick are on top of that. The portion is HUGE and delicious! I could only eat half of it. It also came with a drink and I chose honey lemon.<br/><br/>I think the food is definitely worth the price. Try it out sometime! Happy they got a Toronto location but not sure if it's this good. I sure hope so!
Munchmunch
Logic. Ordered a noodle soup, they got the order wrong, and they spent 20 minutes trying to find the original order sheet before giving up and telling me that they'll start making it now. Does the cost of one bowl of soup matter so much to you that you'll make a customer wait 20 minutes before you make another bowl? You have got to be kidding me.

Best Location. The 1st Location.. If you want to try Deer Garden, this is the best location. They are also the first location as well. Why?<br/>- If you go to the other Richmond location beside Pearl Castle, you are guarantee to share seats with strangers.<br/>- If you go to Fraser location, they mix water with their soup and give you way less soup and portion as well.
Melodylovesfood
Love their fish soup noodles at the one on Capstan way. Totally addicted to their fish soup noodles, my husband and I love the one located on Capstan way (we somehow found out the one in Alexandra road taste different). We go to the one on capstan way for at least 2 times a week to have a fast hot soup dinner.
Peiiep12321
Extremely bad service. I went there ask for a menu to get something to go.<br/>They said ok...and I have to grab my own menu because they won't pass to me even I just stand right at the cashier desk.<br/>I came back 10mins later...the yong guy waiter pass me the food and didn't say anything...no chopstick, no spoon...I asked for them and he gave to me without saying anything.......<br/><br/>Extremely rude!!!
Lance-cheng
Bad food bad service Not worth it. The soup broth is super salty. <br/>Bad service. Waited over 20 minutes for a side dish. <br/>They offered a 10% discount for dish because we would like to cancel it due to the over-saltiness but still not worth it. <br/>The saltiness is "standard"<br/><br/>Definitely not a good choice to come here.

Manager name at Deer Garden in Alexandra Road?. Does anyone know the managers name at this location?
Facebook User
Horrible. Tasteless and expensive. Do not worth the money and line up.. Ordered their signature fish soup rice noodle thing, and I couldn't taste anything fish like from the soup, more like artificial flavor though they claim they didn't use any. plus, you need to wait for about 15-20 minutes even at 9 pm. do not worth the money and time. I've tried rice noodle in Hong Kong for 4 CAD per bowl, they were much much better. this store is overrated.
Janger9999
Service way to slow. My friend waited close to an hour for his pork chop dinner. We ordered two glasses of water and did not receive it till after we paid our bill. After leaving premises they will not allow let you back in to use the washroom
Momobee
The guy waiter Rude attitude. The male waiter is poor the girls are better. Food is so so reasonable price but won't go again

Rushed and Sense of Entitlement. Went to the Sexsmith Road location. Waitresses came by three times to ask if we want to pack the baked rice when she could see we were still eating. Bill came to $45.55 and we put a $50 bill on the tray. No change came back. We had to ask for the bill and change and told the waitress that it is up to us to decide how much tips they get. We took all the change and won't come back again.
Jameslong1975
Good for the price. Interesting menu, not usually too keen on Asian cuisine but I liked what I had and the price is very reasonable.
TOO SPICY TO EAT
Everything on the menu is good. Just ignore the service.
Rogue_cdr9
Decent food, Garbage service. Don't go to Richmond location.. I've been here many times before but won't willingly come back to this location after this visit. I would like to stress this is the Alexandra road location. <br/>I now frequent the Fraser St one with no complaints yet.<br/>I came with a couple friends after flying in for a wedding.<br/>I we ordered a bowl of noodles, drink and a side dish. <br/>Drink came in a To-Go cup. (This is early lunch hour) <br/>We weren't even done our noodles when a waitress dropped off the bill without us asking. <br/>As soon as we were done our noodles and had yet to even finish half our drinks she asked us to pay and leave because the next table was waiting. <br/>I don't care what kind of restaurant you run, high class or fast food, but under no circumstances is it appropriate or good business practice to ask paying customers to leave before they are finished just because you brought the drinks in to-go cups. <br/>I've been told prior to seating on other occasions at other restaurants where they had a reservation coming at a specific time and that's fine. It's by my choice to finish by then, but this was grossly unacceptable. <br/>Maybe I should have made an uproar in the restaurant. <br/>As it was my 5 cent tip would have to suffice, which I gladly left as that waitress watched.
Victorlam1983
EW........ Noodle soup tastes weird. There dishes are bad. So ew...
Ylilul
Poor service,. Never never go back to this location, normally visit the Fraser one, but first time in sexsmith one. They kept moving customers table to table, the party behind me were 3 so they got a table for 6, me 2 waiting, then a party of 5 came, they moved the 3 to a table of 4, then gave the table to 5, then move them in 2 mins to a table of 4, me still waiting. When I checked with the waitress, she gave me a BLACK FACE, so I turned away. They don't deserve to earn my $$$.
Suzy
I have been there many times, once while in a month, even I have been there since this restaurant grand opening. like the noodle in soup, especially the Crystal noodle.
Odee
My 2nd time here. The first time, I really liked the fish soup but didn't much care for the service. Last night, it seemed like a whole different wait staff was working. The ladies were friendly, efficient and attentive. Specially Connie, she even went after us outside and said that we overpaid. She returned a $20 that was stuck with another bill ! Talk about honesty!! We couldn't believe how nice and honest she was. We will definitely be back.
Samuel
Chinese Noodles.. If you're too lazy like any other young adults and hate cooking for yourself this is the right place for you! to eat your favorite chinese noodles! according to the menu it says there's no MSG in the soup base.. you add 2 dollars and you get bubble tea. that's what i call a DEAL! your bill come to $11/12 not including tip. decent price!
Ivy North
Good food but POOR service!. They have really good food, but the worst service I have ever had!!<br/>No smile, no refill tea, no 'thanks', 'welcome', or 'come back again'... :(
AF
Excellent Curry Beef Bisket. Most diners come here for the noodles in soup, but I come here for their Malaysian styled curry. Love love love their Curry Beef Brisket on rice. I can never have enough of it. Try to avoid visiting the Alexandra Road location during rush hours because it's almost impossible to find parking within this little strip mall.
Evans Jia
Very delicate rice noodle. Highly recommend.

Food quality deteriorating. Can't say it's bad, but seemed not as good as before. <br/>Thinking about so many varieties of food to choose from in Richmond, will hardly be back...
604Foodie
Always packed to capacity. The bf digs their noodles in fish broth. me, not so much. i'm more into their rice dishes. the food here's pretty good....not into the looooOOoong wait time though.
Wsupvince
Food is okay, but service is bad. Service is sub par, and compareable to a rundown joint in Hong Kong. The food was okay, but I'd rather go to other HK style cafes in Richmond than here. The poor service may relate to how busy they are, but still not an excuse since similar chains like Cattle Cafe still manage to provide decent service when it's busy.<br/><br/>Hopefully the servers learn a bit of manners since the food is actually okay.<br/><br/>On another related, but unrelated item, parking in this complex is a bit troublesome too which is not their fault but I thought I'd mention it.
Fievel Simba Leung
The noodle soup was ok, the milk tea was tasteless, they gave us the bill even though we haven't finished.
CaptainNemo
My new noodle place!!!. For a chinese restaurant, I thought this place was pretty outstanding.<br/><br/>There was a long line up, but for a good restaurant, I was willing to wait.<br/><br/>For $7.50, i got to pick my soup, my noodle and two kinds of toppings. I picked the tom yum goong soup, the udon noodle, deep friend fish cake and beef. The portions were VERY generous! AND yum it was sooooo........good. I also got a drink (cold drink was an addition $1), the lemon Ribena was awsome. But a side of deep fried pork chop was an extra $1.50. Double yummers!<br/><br/>I thought the servers there were not friendly, but they were not, not friendly. Pretty typical for a chinese restaurant. I think I am a little use to it.<br/><br/>Will definately go back!!!!
AsianI
Love this place. The fish noodle soup is the best in Richmond - I have it too often... The noodles are fresh and ingredients are better than other places like Cattle Cafe. Cold drinks are well executed. Get the "Chilli Pepper Oil" if you like spicy. Expect a line up and brisk service. Pay by cash only.
Samantha A
Rice dishes aren't very good. Portions are pretty small also. We didn't try the soup but that's supposed to be better. Service was average but we probably won't be back.
Julia Chan
FirsttimeVisit.. The food tastes okay, but bad service.
Brian
Apparently this place doesn't welcome babies as they are less revenue per head. Waited in line for 20 minutes as they were seating guests with no the same amount of people as my party even though we arrived much earlier
MelVan
Love the choices. Came here after hearing about the popularity of their soup noodles. First time we visited, we actually waited for a little over 20 minutes. So be prepared to wait if you're planning to come during 'dinner' time. We like the choices in their menu. Contrary to many people, we prefer the Laksa soup over the fish soup. One of us actually tried the fish soup and did not like it at all -- the noodle became tasteless combined with the soup. The toppings here are pretty generous, especially if you order the beef tongue. Our favourite toppings here are the fish puffs and beef tongue. It's good that the noodles come with drinks...but rarely do we want to pay that extra dollar to make our drinks cold. Understandable if the service is a little slow as it gets quite busy here sometimes.
Nomnom
Pretty good noodles, service? ehhh.... The soup noodle I always get is the Laksa vermicelli with sliced beef? The soup base is pretty good except the last time I went I saw more red oil in my soup than actual vermicelli, which kind of sucked.<br/>I don't like how you have to add $1 for cold drinks, kind of overpriced when you're already paying $8 for a bowl of noodles don't you think?<br/>Oh and the last time I came, I was just chilling with my friend for around 5 more minutes after paying the bill and within that short timeframe, 2 waitresses came by and basically told us to hurry up and leave. Kind of unacceptable too ain't it?
Purdey
I love the 'Cart' style noodle where you pick your own soup base, noodles type, and toppings. For $7.50 it includes a hot drink ($1 extra for cold). The deep fried chicken wing (3 pcs) for $1.50 is good value and pretty darn good. Service is decent as they are able to get your drink and food Ina reasonable time. Expect long waits during lunch time. Overall experience: thumb's up
Cakebrain
Great fish soup base but spotty service. My kids prefer the soup to Cattle Cafe. I prefer the side dishes which are only $1.50 each. I liked the dessert wings and fried fish side dishes. Quantity of ingredients in the soup noodle bowls is smaller than Cattle Cafe.
Katie
Good hk style food. Noodles & soups are good and tasty, prices ok, service is slow, parking is limited.
EatLover
Big bowl, valuable price and the noodle taste good!!! The bubble tea, not as good as i think.... but, the hk style cold lemon tea was soo good...
Kuro
Great soup noodles, poor service!. Went to this restaurant with some friends today. The soup noodles was great, unfortunately, almost all of the servers were really bad. They definitely served with no smile! No one greeted us at the door; the server that took our order kept a straight face while taking order; they were gossiping about how much tips we left for them at end. Absolutely horrible!! Yes, even though they have excellent food, but sorry, I won't pay to eat there anymore. Poor service can't make up for good food! They should get a new bunch of servers that know how to serve!
Andy
Good customer service comparing to other chinese restaurant sttrong and tasty broth recommeding this place to go ...the other dishes other than thier noodle on soup were not as good

Deer Garden has three locations, two in Richmond and one in Vancouver. The one we had dinner tonight was on Alexandra Road in Richmond. They offer lots of combos that you might want to take advantage of this! Most of their combos include a coffee or tea for free ($1.00 extra for cold drink and $2.00 extra for the specialty drink). I normally don't drink any beverages while eating, but I wanted to try their red bean bubble tea! RED BEAN ICE WITH ICE CREAM ($4.25) was a bit smaller size, but it tasted good nonetheless. A half of drink was filled with red beans and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Picky Diner
The idea here at Deer Garden is really simple. They brew a heck of a giant pot of fish broth, and sell most of their noodle soup dishes based on this amazing broth. This has been a very successful formula for Deer Garden. And their noodle dishes has been legendary all over Chinese community in Vancouver lower mainland for years. This phenomenon is very similar to pho but it is only within the Chinese community. I still when remembered when Fish Soup Rice Noodles started to gain huge popularity a few years back. At one point, there were noodle houses selling Fish Soup Noodles everywhere, and there were many HK style cafes putting a ‘Fish Soup Noodles’ category on their menu. But after all these years, in my opinion, Deer Garden is still simply best among all those noodle houses. Th

Deer Garden is famous for their make your own noodle soup combos and their no MSG fish broth! For some reason I've never tried Deer Garden before, so I decided to give it a go last week. I usually don't comment on the service I receive at  restaurants  because a) The waiters/waitresses get paid  minimum  wage so I want to give them a break and b) it's not fine dining so I don't have much expectations. However, on this trip to Deer Garden, the service I received was quite shocking. Five  minutes into my meal the bill was slammed in front of me with the waitress barking "Here is the bill!" Okay, I understand that you want a high turnover rate for profit, but really? I had barely even started eating! A restuarant shouldn't give someone a bill unless it is apparent that they are finished or unless they ask for it.  I was willing to look past the incident and focus on the food. However, the food was a  disappointment  as well, considering the hype surrounding this place. 2/5 stars Th

Today I had Pan fried beef tongue with mushroom in black pepper sauce on rice – goodness, what a mouthful. This can found on Deer Garden's Mini Set Meal menu, and is priced at $6.95. However, it is only available from 3 pm to 6 pm and 9 pm to closing, meaning you can't order it during the typical dinner time. If you're ever hungry during awkward hours, I highly suggest you try this dish as you really get your bang for your buck! This is the first time I've had something other than the

There is quite a lot to choose from and the quality is decent, but the highlight of everything is the soup base. There are a few to choose from, and the fish soups are among the best.
CL
My friends ordered the Malay Laksa, Chicken broth and the peanut sauce/chili soup bases. I usually go for the Laksa soup base and I find it pretty good. It's not going to taste like your authentic Laksa but its' creaminess and spicy aftertaste satisfies my taste buds. The peanut sauce and chili soup is the soup base in "dam dam noodles" from your shanghai restaurants. The chicken broth soup base is pretty self explanatory.
Ling
The food was SO good! The fish broth was amazing, just like back home. I actually took some home for James to try. Best part? The set was only $8.50 and $2.50 more for bubble tea. This is considered very afforadable in Vancouver.

My boss had been raving and talking about Deer Garden for a while and since she knew that I was a huge noodle fan, she recommended it even more.  So Sheepie and I went on a Friday evening down to Richmond. We weren’t too familiar with Richmond area and even with the guide of Google maps, we had some problems trying to figure out the location. Finally parked the car and started to walk around and found it on the second floor. It was a busy restaurant, and the staff told us to go to the back room. We walked ourselves to the back and sat down at one of the tables with the menus and fill out forms already there.  So the deal is $8.50 which includes a choice of your soup, noodle, two toppings and milk tea. The selection is quite extensive, so a lot of opportunities to come back and try a different combination every time until you find your perfect combo or keep it always different so you wont get bored. I chose the original fish soup, vermicelli noodles, fish balls and fish to

In Vancouver, when one mentions “Rice Noodles in Fish Soup”, almost 90% of the people will think of Deer Garden. A bowl of good rich noodles in fish soup is not easy to be found yet Deer Garden  is famous for it and has opened three stores in Vancouver and Richmond. I can’t remember how many times we have been there but all we tried are their noodles combos. They are so good that we just keep coming back for the same dishes. They have many choices. I didn’t take a picture of the menu form but all choices are shown on their website: http://www.deergarden.ca/signature.html I love their Dried Fish and Minced Pork Fish Soup. It’s MSG free and very tasty!! There is no doubt that the Rice Noodles in Fish Soup is very nice and good valued.<br/><br/>Lots and lots of choices and you can always create your combos with all your favourite ingredients.<br/><br/>Their fish soup is MSG free. What are you waiting for?

I ordered the noodle soup where you can choose the soup base, noodles and ingredients. The meal also comes with a complimentary drink which I added $2 to upgrade to a Red Bean with Vanilla Ice Cream drink.
Domo Is Craving...
I had wayyy too many bad experiences at this place, so I would HIGHLY recommend you guys to not come here. But if you guys find it okay, then go ahead and risk it, its your own choice.

By the time we were able to find the restaurant, it was packed! Lucky we anticipated this and made a reservation! And just as we went in a group of people were leaving so we got a table really quickly. Always make a reservation here if you come in during lunch time/dinner time!<br/>
Constant Cravings
The soup comes with veggies like green onions and cabbage and bean curd already and if you don’t like any of that there’s a box you can tick to have them omit it from your order! I thought that was nice for the picky eaters *cough cough*. I liked that it had bean curd! It seemed kinda abnormal for noodle soups but it tasted good.

Deer Garden is one of Richmond's beloved franchises. What makes them so special? Not only do they offer a normal set menu for regular Hong Kong style food, Deer Garden is also known for their noodles in soup, their specialty. A partial noodle bar you could say. Deer Garden has two locations in Richmond but we chose to go to #1178-3779 Sexsmith Rd. Michael and I found out about this place was from one of Michael's friend. He usually knows where the greatest places to eat in Richmond. Prepare yourself because theres always going to be a wait when you get there.

Deer Garden is actually one of my favorite places to go to (and hot pot) especially now in this cold rainy weather in Vancouver. This restaurant currently have two branches in Richmond, one on Alexandra Rd and one on Sexsmith Rd (Continental Plaza). If you compare the two Deer Gardens, the only difference of the two is the parking space available on each location. The branch on Sexsmith Rd (Continental Plaza) compared to the Alexandra Rd one has more parking space available.. which is good! So most of the time I tend to just head over to the Sexsmith Rd branch so that I won't have to get frustrated over having to look for a parking space on the Alexandra Rd location. Every time we go to Deer Garden however, we usually have to wait for quite a while before getting a table because of the amount of people that always go to this place! Although the wait is quite long sometimes.. I think this place is worth the wait.. especially if your looking for some reasonably priced Chinese food that y

A little while back we tried fish noodle soup combos from Nishiki restaurant when they first introduced it in their menu. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed it. The other day we were in Richmond and craving this style of noodles so we “googled it” and found two restaurants that served this same style of noodle combos.

A few weeks later, I revisited Deer Garden again with my family and boyfriend. I ordered the Rice Noodle in Malay Laksa Soup with Sliced beef and Sliced Deep Fried Fish Cake. I didn't bring my camera with me but the noodles essentially look the same as the malay laksa from the first visit. I really liked the soup base this time because it was barely spicy at all and had a rich creamy taste to it. The beef was very tender and the bowl of noodles also came with an abundant amount of vegetables.
Eating With Kirby
Their house made fish broth is to die for and is the perfect remedy for a chilly night, starving tummy, or quick bite with friends. Not recommended for chatting and catching up with old friends because Deer Garden is more of a 'eat and go' type of place.

Deer Garden’s best known for their ‘Signature’ noodle-bar menu where you can create your ultimate personalized bowl of noodles.

However, it’s almost worth it for the comforting, inexpensive bowl of noodles that awaits you at the end, though their prices have been steadily increasing over the years.

you choose your own soup base, type of noodles and two toppings. The result...? A big whopping, steaming bowl of yummy!

The soup was pretty good and rich in flavour. This is my favourite type of soup here, though watercress soup is also very good.

Just yesterday night, my brother informed me of a hidden place known as Deer Garden Signatures, right above Cattle Cafe! For all who have no clue where I'm referring to, it's on Alexandra Road near Lansdowne Center in Richmond. On that street, there are hot pot, Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese restaurants, so this is a very popular spot to eat. Actually, I went to Cattle Cafe before, around a year ago! I remembered that they had this noodle combo where you can choose your own noodles, ingredients, and soup base! It was pretty good too! Yet now, my brother tells me that Deer Garden Signatures has an even better noodle combo deal. Therefore, this was something I had to try! When I first reached Cattle Cafe, I was a bit confused on where to go. From a distance, it's probably going to be difficult to spot the cage door on the left of Cattle Cafe. Anyways, you go up the really steep stairs and turn right to find Deer Garden Signatures. It's not a big restaurant at all and that was mainly

Holy moly are these soups big. I think it’s possible to share this soup with 1-2 people. The laksa wasn’t too spicy and the amount of noodles given was good.

This really hit the spot! I like how you can choose whatever you want for meats and veggies. The variations are endless. Don't like cilantro? you can check it off the paper order menu that each person gets. Each bowl can be customized to the individual's preferences. The true test of the restaurant's broth is the fish broth. Because it is so rich and flavourful and not even a tad fishy at all, you get a good idea at the quality of the ingredients. The Deer Garden Signatures menu is a tad different from Cattle Cafe, which is located downstairs. The differences are negligible. Most offerings are the same.

Word of advice with this place would be - go really early or really late to avoid the crowd.
Food Persuasion
I have yet to find a comparable of noodle house outside of Richmond. Reputed grilled beef tongue - so tender, I would absolutely re-order this dish. Pan fried and sprinkled with salt & pepper.

While the food is passable, especially considering the price (dinner for two is like 20 dollars; less if you don’t order the side dishes), one thing about Hong Kong cafes (actually, at a lot of lower-end Asian restaurants, whether pho, Taiwanese, whatever) is that you shouldn’t expect stellar service.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
Our drinks were included in the noodle combos. I had the Milk Tea 奶茶 while MomM had the Coffee 咖啡. Both were quite diluted.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
Both Buddha Boy and I enjoyed the soup. It's a long-boiled fish soup that's rich and full of flavors...no, it's not fishy at all!

Deer Garden Signatures is sort of mash-up of Chinese, Malaysian, noodles and a bubble tea shop. It’s located on the restaurant road of Richmond, Alexandra Road, but tucked away above

I was at my other job a month or so ago and for some reason, lunch was not provided so we all went out to graba bite to eat. Some of my colleagues suggested this place....cheap and tasty, and it was just that. The service was a bit slow, but probably because the place was packed and there was a small line up just to get in to the place. I've only had laksa a few times and I wasn't really a big fan of it, until I came to Deer Garden. It's a noodle soup with a sort of curry base to it. It tasted almost creamy, and maybe that can be attributed to the coconut milk used in the curry maybe? Anyway, I really liked this dish and I've always wanted to go back. The laksa is a good reason for me to go back, the only bit of trouble I had was that it didn't taste all that spicy going in....coming out was another story. *pics taken with my phone cam

Deer Garden is popular for being a noodle place where you build your own noodle bowl.  Kind of like choosing your own toppings when ordering a pizza online.  There are currently 3 locations in the lower mainland, 2 of which are in Richmond.  We visited the one at the Continental strip mall along Cambie Rd & Sexsmith.  View Larger Map We got there at about 6:30pm and it was really busy with people waiting at the door for a table.  The staff was very quick and efficient in speeding up the turnover.  Despite the big volume of people waiting, we ended up waiting about 15 minutes for a table of 3.  The restaurant is relatively spacious.  Our rough estimate is that it can seat about 50-60 people. At the table you will see a white piece of paper printed with a checklist.  This is the one to use if you are building your own noodle soup.  You start by choosing a soup base which ranges from plain chicken broth to a spicy Szechuan.  Then you choose up to 3 toppings. They have many meat choices like chicken balls, beef tendon, and fish.  Veggie toppings include choices like mushroom, bean curd and several Chinese greens.  All in all, there is a good variety to fit many taste buds.  You also get to choose a hot drink, which are the typical Hong Kong type drinks like Coffee, tea, Ovaltine, lemon tea etc.  All this for about $9. There are other menu choices available if you aren’t in the mood for noodles.  First built to order noodles below uses: - Spicy Malay Laksa soup. - Beef Tendon; Bean Curd; Enoki Mushrooms The 2nd noodle order is built with: - Chicken broth soup. - Beef Tendon; Fish Balls; Bean Curd The Laksa soup was very flavourful and full of spicy heat.  Chicken soup was just chicken soup, nothing too special.  The toppings were quite generous on both, but it would have been more balanced if there had been more noodles. The third dish we got was the curry beef brisket with rice.

It's a Chinese “Cart Noodle” experience. You select a home made soup broth, noodles & 2 toppings with a drink for $7.50. They also offer a selection of Hong Kong cafe style items and bubble tea.
