Very polite, friendly and food is really good + the quality and presentation. Reasonable prices. Small spot but have had luck getting a table quite quick.
A lovely little sushi spot I recently discovered. Cozily tucked away in the Seafair shopping centre its easy to miss! Quick, efficent table service with sushi made with fresh, AUTHENTIC ingredients (no imitation crab here) that are easily recognizable via taste alone. Price points are rather high for a sit-down sushi restaurant; that would be my only real criticism.
Found this cute Japanese restaurant by chance. Great options and the combo set is a good option to try everything on the menu đ the quality of the food is good and service is good good. The servers were attentive and clear out table fast. It's clean and I like the openness of the kitchen. Another fine addition to Richmond.
Small neighborhood restaurant run by Japanese. It's clean an seated comfortably. You might need to wait for table during dinner time. Prices are reasonable. I dine her once in awhile.
Takeya Nigiri Set. That's really all that I would order from here. The rest of the rolls are fairly standard or some sort of fusion cuisine which doesn't leave much of an impression.
For the price, the one thing that's really worth it is the Takeya Nigiri Set which comes with aburi(seared) fatty tuna, salmon belly, Saba(mackerel), Amaebi, Unagi(eel), 3pcs salmon maki and 3pcs tuna maki. The fish is fresh and the salmon and tuna belly are bites of melt-in-your-mouth goodness.
Its a small restaurant with a nice service. You can line up to order or you can dine in. I ordered food that has no meat. For the cheese salmon roll, I asked to have without salmon so only spinach and cream cheese. I know it doesnt make sense but they don't have cream cheese roll or any vegetarian roll that has cream cheese so thats best I can find haha the vegetable corquette is yummy.
Simply amazing. Some of the best seared nigiri i'd ever tried. Great rice to fish ratio in their rolls and their nabeyaki udon is comfort at a whole new level. Filled with a savoury but not salty broth and plenty of chicken and veggies, this noodle bowl is extremely worth the higher price tag. Bara charashi don had great tasting rice with a correct amount of vinegar and sugar and although a little lacking in fish, was delicious nonetheless. I highly recommend trying this place!
After the renovation, the food has become much better and more comfortable to dine in. Seating is still limited and they prioritize take out still. Good local spot, prices are average.
I find Takeya a safe medium: affordable but fresh at the same time. Itâs the sister restaurant of Ichiro in Steveston so I would like to think they have the same fresh fish vendor. I wasnât too hungry so I ordered the Takeya Nigiri for $11.95. I substituted the Saba nigiri for the crab tempura nigiri. The others are unagi (eel), amaebi (shrimp), salmon toro (salmon belly), tuna toro (seared tuna belly) and some salmon and tuna rolls...

For myself, I went for the Takeya Nigiri . They have Chefâs Specials every motnh, and you can check online to see whatâs new. The Takeya Nigiri set was this monthâs special. It was a great deal at $11.95 for an assortment of lightly grilled nigiris along with two maki rolls. The fish was very fresh and I especially liked the Salmon Toro and Tuna Toro. These two just melted in your mouth. I can see why people line up for Takeya. It is a gem in Richmond with affordable, fresh and authentic sushi. Presentation-wise, itâs not the fanciest, since they use paper cups for the wasabi and pickled ginger. However, quality beats it. Iâll definitely be returning and itâs a great choice for take out.
Delicious. I've been dining at Takeya for years now and always have had good experiences. The prices have been creeping up to the point where they are a little on the expensive side. Nonetheless, the selection is great and the food delicious. There are a lot of real Japanese dishes in addition to many Canadian-Japanese favourites. A must try is the spicy agedashi tofu, the best tofu you'll ever try. The servers are usually very polite and the restaurant itself is very cozy. Bentos are also available. This place also has a sister restaurant in Steveston with many of the same items on the menu in a slightly more upscale setting. Check them both out! And get the tofu!
Good Family Restaurant. We 've been to Takeya many times and enjoy the yummy food. More importantly the consistent taste. Its authentic Japanese food with a huge selection of sushi and cooked dishes. Service is fast and no frills. Lots of parking space in the mall and our favourite place to go after a big game. Good value too, a family of 4 (2 teenage boys both almost 6' feet tall) is about $60 for lunch.
Great sushi place in Richmond. Small restaurant that mostly do take out customer. Sushi fresh and the orders arrive fast. Will definitely come again. Great quality food with very reasonable price. I believe this restaurant owner also owns Ichiro in Steveston.
Quality!. Been traveling lately and was craving some great sushi since I got home to Richmond. I found Takeya on urbanspoon with fairly decent reviews. The plan was to take my veggie mum out for an early dinner and I choose this place because it specifies whats veggie on the menu.
Anyhoo, our experience was a delight - the soup was hot, the sushi fresh and the tempura had a crispy batter.
The server was polite and the service was quick.
Perhaps a lil' pricey though
Solid Sushi. In Richmond - finding a go-2 sushi spot can be daunting. There is a myriad of AYCE places along with many Asian supermarkets with in-house sushi counters.
The secret is 2 sniff-out the ones owned by and more-specifically trained Japanese sushi chefs. And Takeya is one of these
Pay a lil' more - ENJOY the freshness N quality
So consistent!. Try to order once a week and it's always soooo good.
consistency is the key and these guys have it!
Van sushi is awesome. I love this little unassuming place. The rolls are great the prices are even better. I will always come back and the staff are super attentive and friendly. Great little place
Best Sushi Spot in Richmond. My favorite sushi spot in Richmond! The sashimi is fresh and sushi rolls aren't so big, just the right size. I don't like my sushi rolled in too much rice. I love the crispy tuna avocado roll, it has tempura batter bits sprinkled on top of the roll. The Takeya agedashi tofu is tasty, it's deep fried crab, tofu, tuna and vegetables with tempura sauce. The place isn't very big but the service has always been good. I go to this place atleast once a week. Never been disappointed.
OMG!!! I absolutely love this place. The sushi tolls are to die for and sashimi is soo fresh. Yummy. I'm craving thi place and the price is just right for the quality. I like a Japanese owned Japanese restaurant. I can't wait to take all my friends and family there. It is small and can fill up fast. But how many sushi places ar open from afternoon till night without that gap of closing. I love it
Small (10 tables) and unpretencious, casual dining with good food & excellant service. The only minor "whine"... They use imitation crab.
Takeya is a Japanese owned restaurant on No. 1 Road in Richmond. The restaurant is not big nor is it fancy, but they definitely know how to make good sushi. I usually get TAKEYA NIGIRI ($11.95) which comes with five aburi sushi consisting of unagi, amaebi, saba, sockeye salmon, and toro, and 3 pieces of salmon roll and 3 pieces of tuna roll. They have one of the best aburi toro sushi. Toro tastes really soft and flavourful when it is lightly seared on top...
I love how Takeyaâs chefs prepare their maki rolls. The nori that they use is very fresh and crisp, and the sushi rice is perfectly seasoned, just the way it should be. The salmon that they use is so red that I could swear that it must be sockeye! Whether it is or isnât doesnât matter to me. What does matter is that the fish that they use for their sushi is so incredibly fresh and succulent. I love how it just melts in your mouth, and the taste is so deliciously satisfying.
We always come and get the Takeya sushi combo. We think itâs a better deal than ordering sushi separately but we never really did the calculations. I suppose itâs a simpler way for lazy people to have the restaurant choose the sushi for them. I adore amaebi (sweet shrimp) and tuna toro. I also had the salmon toro. True to its name (fatty belly of salmon/tuna), the toro sushi were juicy and fatty- perfect!
I was so excited to finally have the chance to eat here! Takeya is brought to you by the same owners of Steveston restaurant, Ichiro. Itâs mainly for âto goâ but there are about ten or so tables available for âfor hereâ. Iâve actually never been to Ichiro. At the end of our meal, my mom (capable of striking a conversation with any stranger on the streets, how she birthed an introvert like me is beyond me) asked the server where their fish is from. She replied that most are local but some are flown in from Japan. She also let us know that most of their chefs are Japanese. Of course, Toshi Sushi âs fish are all imported so my mom took this as an opportunity to sing Toshiâs praises. My momâs cute. Takeya is located on No. 1 at Francis, directly across Hugh Boyd high school, in the Seafair Shopping Centre in west Richmond. Itâs a little bit out of the way for us in central Richmond but itâs not too bad of a drive. One day itâll be known as âDowntown Richmondâ. Canât wait for the Asian Inva

Takeya is a small, friendly and local eatery; just the kind of place I love to eat at because these places provide a more personable experience and, in this case, also packs a flavorful
Despite having lived in Richmond for, oh, just my entire life, this sushi place never stood out to me and I never wanted to eat there. (Also because it's on No. 1 Road, which is kind of out of way for most people.) This was my fifth visit or so and I actually ended up going there two days in a row. And ordering the same thing two days in a row. This place is separated into a dining area and "line up" area. The counter is at the back of the store, so on the left you have customers eating in and on the right side, people can walk to the counter without disturbing the diners. The use of separators kind of reminds me of my old restaurant city game on Facebook. Anyway, one thing that attracted me when I read Vancouver Sushi was that it was operated by Ichiro Japanese Restaurant (which I haven't gone to before, but I've been meaning to go!) Everytime I go, I end up ordering the chirashi don ($8.45). This is an ama
Takeya is located right beside Safeway in the strip mall on No. 1 Road. I never knew about this little sushi spot until I visited Ichiro in Steveston. The two restaurants belong to the same owners, but Ichiro is more high-end while Takeya features a take-out counter for fast convenient sushi and bento boxes. There is the option to eat in with table service as well. The store is quite small and very casual, so it's not exactly the place to go for a romantic sushi dinner. But the ingredients are unbelievably fresh and the sushi rice is cooked perfectly. We ordered a sushi combo F ($15.95) which includes a negitoro roll and a variety of nigiri sushi. Pretty good value for the price. We also tried a few of the regular sushi rolls. Starting from the left, we have the queen dynamite roll ($6.75) which is a prawn tempura roll topped with gooey melted cream cheese. This is highly recommended for anyone who likes cream cheese because the gooeyness is a completely different experience from the u
Why does good food have to be pretentious? It doesnât have to be! I mean, when comes down to it, we end up going to a restaurant for the food donât we? Sometimes, I could really care less whether Iâm waited for hand and foot or whether my food is served t
