Review Flying Beaver Bar & Grill - Richmond

Nick B.
Great service, delicious food, and lots of TVs to watch sports! If I’m being a tour guide for friends and family, we always find a way to end up here. There’s a great atmosphere and something special about watching the planes take off right out the window. Staff are always amazing. The host also spoke Spanish and made our guests from Mexico feel at home :) I ordered the chicken burger - which was delicious. We can’t wait for the next visit!

A great place to dine, drink and watch seaplanes land and take off. Great selection of drinks and a good menu for food. If not for the host I would have given this place 5 stars. He was rude and on the borderline of being a racist the way he treated us.. The server, Natalie, was superb and even, along with other servers complained about the host.

Food was ok, it's a western Asian fusion food, you can get Pad Thai, Szechuan style chicken and burger out of menu. Outdoor and indoor seating available, definitely a great spot for sunset dinner. However the service is not good, literally if you sit outside means help yourself, no one come to take the order or pay attention 🤷🏻‍♀️

Restaurant at beautiful place. Staff is very enthusiastic and friendly. Loved the veggie burger. Food here is delicious. Reasonable prices as compared to other places. Must give it a shot. Will go back for sure.!!

Great venue with lots of nearby parking and they also offer "limited" shuttle service, for ppl that want to drink, which is a nice gesture. Friendly and enthusiastic service staff with reasonably priced food and beverages. Food tasted great, I have no complaints; I had the "bad boy" burger and ate everything. My friend had the blackened chicken that came with scalloped potatoes and that was a great "all around package."

Price: 10/1, Food: 7/10, Service: 9/10, Atmosphere: 10/10. Waterfront view, with water planes taking off and landing. A nice covered patio that’s naturally cooled by the water. Food is interesting - not the most impressive meal, but it does try to innovate and accommodate the local taste (Asian flavours). Portion is very good given it’s price. Service is top notch.

Only giving 3 stars because the table are so small. If you order a lot better eat fast and try to make room. Other than that this place is a gem. The taco was enough for 3 people, yam fries was good and we love the garlic fries. Wish the drinks were free for refills but I understand that during these times they have to make it up for it. Free parking across the street. Love the scenery of seaplanes taking off and landing. Great staff... except for one guy working there. I don't understand the girl who took our name didn't tell us or everyone else waiting to be seated to wait outside. After that? Almost everyone went outside. This guy comes out and makes an announcement of people not waiting to board a flight to wait outside. Shouldn't they all be on the same page? Recently went today... waitress forgot to gave us any utensils and napkins after the food arrived. Cheesecake didn't taste good... we didn't even finished it... felt as thr Cheesecake has been in the fridge a while.

Awesome restaurant with great views of the planes taking off and landing! Such a cool spot. They also have vegan / plant based options, we got the sunshine bowls and they were pretty good.

I had lunch at the Flying Beaver yesterday on my way home. It was busy but I got seated quickly and had a drink in less than 5 minutes. My food arrived about 5 minutes after the drink. The service was pleasant and fast, the food delicious. It certainly made the wait for my flight better. Two thumbs up!

At busy times you have a hostess who will take your name, however regulars walked right in and got a seat. I hate the hovering people who see you are almost finished and stand right by your table. The food is good, the view amazing but I think 18 bucks for a hamburger is a bit too much. I still like going here for the drive and the view. Wasn’t sure who our server was at first, I haven’t reduced my tip of 18 percent in a long time but this time I did.

Good wine, tasty snack and awesome server - plus a view of the river. Great place.

Wonderful place to sit on the patio and the staff is friendly and accommodating. I go back often, worth the travel from North Vancouver.

Beaver is a special place for my family and I. I love all the staff members! They've always been wonderful and accommodating for us! This is the one place that everyone should visit when in Richmond.
Raija Kristiina
Confusion about who my server was. Had no drinks for 5 minutes and was never asked if we wanted more drinks or food. The only person who was attentive was the bussed. We could have left and no one would probably have noticed.
Hayley Atkinson
Eaten here lots but tonight was just meh. Slow server who didn't seem to care, food was good, but you charge $1 now for hot water?!?! That's insane.
Ronald Lam
I am a regular customer here. I come here a lot. That alone should be testament to how good this place is. Flying Beaver rules! Love it!

They have decided to discontinue the Beaver Dam. This is a very big disappointment. other then that it is a great place to eat and drink.
Maxim Chan
Spectacular place to enjoy a meal by viewing sea plane taking off, landing n going “home” (parking lot”) 🤗😄
Maunaloa Mitravich
Always a great experience. Watching sea planes, having some cocktails with the best chicken wings around!
Lynda Readman
The place is only good for The View. The food was not great, as people raved about
Jenny LG
Great atmosphere, view, staff and food. Will be back!
Darren Huston
Service of this place is very poor, you have to wait for so long which was very irritating. Interior is awesome but food was just fine so my overall experience with place is not so good.
Oxygen
Awesome location watching the seaplanes, quick service and good specials. They also have a shuttle service that will drive you in Richmond (and I believe Marpole now too) if you have been drinking. Usually there's a wait and it's pretty noisy so don't expect a quiet dinner.

My mother in law chose this location for a late birthday lunch for my wife and I am so coming back in the future. This wonderful restaurant is nestled in the back cornerstone Harbour Air’s float plane terminal over the water looking toward the river. It has the cozy feel of an outpost in the Canadian wilderness with stone finished fireplaces and even has a steelhead mounted above one. The tables are a heavy wood with a great finish reminiscent of something my grandfather would have made.

The staff are personable, very easy to talk to and make requests of, and knowledgeable of their menu. They seem not just happy but proud to work where they do.

My mother in law ordered a Burger with Blue Cheese with a side Caesar Salad. She commented that there was a lot of cheese and that the burger was juicy and tasted great. My wife ordered a chicken burger with sauce on the side and no Onions. She only commented that if we went again that she would get the mustard on the side as well but that it was good. I ordered an omelette with bacon, mixed cheese, and Avocado and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. The eggs were fluffy, had a subtle butter flavour, the avocado were perfectly ripened and the bacon was crisp without being over done. It came with hash browns which were perfectly browned and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Topped off with sourdough toast , lightly toasted without butter.

The hash browns being unseasoned and no butter on the toast I felt contributed nicely to the Canadian wilderness feel of the place and is a plus to the ambience. The only complaint would be that my wife’s chicken burger came with Onions but she quietly set them aside so It was minor and doesn’t effect the perfect score I feel they deserve.

We came for lunch on a Sunday early afternoon. There was a wait as it was a full house. We got a window table with a view. Once seated, the server was prompt to take our drink order. Once our drinks had come, we asked the server to give us time with the menus as one our group members was in the washroom. Once they came back, and we decided on what we were ordering, it took about 10-15 minutes before the server came back. The food came out in a timely manor. I had a chicken burger with fries. I asked to have the mayo on the side and the kitchen staff accommodated my request (I find if the mayo is put on the burger, the chef goes over board with it). My husband had the beaver omelette meal and my mom had the burger /w blue cheese and a Caesar salad. My fries were not seasoned (not even salt), nor was the husbands hash browns. The Caesar salad was dripping with dressing and was very wilty lettuce. By the time we were done eating, the crowd had died down. I would go back

I love this Bar and Grill great place to sit on the patio and watch planes take off , have some beer fish/chips. It’s just a shame, kids and babies are allowed in this bar

My husband and I came here because of Dineout Vancouver. He ordered the Dry ribs (which were mildly wet) for starter and I ordered the clam chowder. Both were really good. Unfortunately when we asked the server if they had wet naps we were told they had none and abruptly turned her back on us without offering any other alternative way to clean up. I’m sure everyone knows eating ribs can be very messy. A small bowl of water would have been nice. For entree I had the pork chops and my husband had the Bbq Chiken. The Chicken was cooked to perfection. Nice and juicy. The chips were ok. For dessert we had lemon meringue pie and chocolate brownie. Both desserts were good. The lemon meringue was particularly mild. The service was lacking. We had a milk spill on our table and nobody came to help us with the clean up (6 passes by various waitresses - not even an acknowledgement that help might be coming) until we flagged someone down. Hmmm our table had high foot traffic with the server... they all missed the pile of wet napkins and utensils scattered around? The one guy that eventually was assigned to clean it up for us was nice and did a superb job at cleaning all the spill. No one ever offered more coffee or hot water for the tea. Our particular table seemed to be passed by constantly, like no one was assigned to it. Other tables were kept up noticably better. Overall the food was good but service was clearly lacking. Would I come back here because of the food? Nope, because good customer service was not present from the beginning.
Lord Of Food
Being a newbie in Vancouver did not realise this restaurant was gonna take me to the outskirts of Vancouver at the beautiful harbour. Went at night so couldn't enjoy the view but I'm sure it would be beautiful. Interiors are very cozy and homely. Food was good. One of the nicest buffalo chicken wraps I have had but my recommendation here is the happy chicken sunshine bowl. Absolutely delicious.
Artichoke dip was good too.. service was great, ambience was great and food was good too. Parking is not an issue either but it is a fair distance away from anywhere, must visit tho. Need to go back there and try the jalapeno cheese bread looked very interesting

○slow service
○nice view
○family friendly
○inside harbour air building
○decent food / only came here for breakfast
○pricey
○would i go back ? No

Service is nearly non existent most times, view is awesome, food is ok, but management really needs to evaluate their front of staff. You can grow old waiting for another drink. Really unacceptable!
Goro
I really do not understand the hype with this place. Prices on their food menu reflects the low quality. No reason to ever eat here, outside of the view.

Service passable.
Clumsy Waiter
Haven't been to this place in years and thought we would check it out. Unimaginative pub food and expensive platter. Drinks are served in a disposable beer cup which doesn't keep your beer cold. Finally for a sports pub please upgrade your TVs the color is fading and look terrible
Love the place and the food was good too!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice view to see the see plans! You don't have to book just get in anytime you want and sat wherever you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• hidden gem, limited parking, very busy place anytime of the day
• awesome ambiance & view, fun watching seaplanes landing & taking off
• I find the food not the best but good enough. Drinks are not bad at all
• seating is a problem, very hard to get a table especially for bigger group. Share a table if must
Pavwink88
Great pub food!!! And even better, very friendly staff. Nice spot to chill after work.
Calamari are my favourite, love their special for every day of the week. My kids love half of appetizers on Monday or wings Wednesday!! Pub is always full, but be patient, table will opens up.

Was in town for an event at the airport decided to come here for an early dinner. Place was packed, we found a seat. I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. It was very good & tasty. Probably the best veggie burger I've ever had! My dad ordered grilled chicken burger it was good too. I would totally recommend it! 😍

Been here a few times on the weekends for brunch/lunch. I didn't it was all that great. Straightforward brunch stuff. Not a huge variety. But since it's one decent brunch place to go to near Richmond, can't complain too much.
J-doug131
Busy Saturday night with casual find-your-own-seat setup. I didn't realize it was the sister to Victoria's Flying Otter Grill until I saw the harbour air logo next to the restaurant's. My salmon burger was perfect. Server was friendly and just the right amount of chattiness.

Just stopped in for wing night. Wings are good and priced at0.60. Thai sauce is excellent. Had Pizza , as well pesto shrimp not bad not great cheap mozzarella always wrecks otherwise decent pizza.
I must say though the staff, service and mgmt of this place is excellent. I wish my employees moved like this crew.

Definitely come here on a Thursday if you can and order their daily special; a 6 oz steak, 6 prawns, a baked potato and salad for $14, you can't go wrong! The steak was cooked to our liking, juicy and tender and not chewy at all. A long with the food, the drinks are great as well, we ordered a caesar and a raspberry mojito, super refreshing!

Even though it was really busy service was good. The only downside is that you have to seat yourself and if there are no seats available you have to wait and quickly grab a table once people leave. However, it's hard to complain when the prices are so cheap. We have heard the wings are really good here so we will be back to try!

My hubby brought me here for lunch. Ordered Short rib skillet. Its quite filling. The ribs taste pretty good though. It has potatoes,2 eggs, cheese, onions n few toast. We brought our baby girl with us so we had to sit outside.

If you are looking for good bar food. This is the place to be. You can have a great view of the harbour planes taking off. Decent food for the price.

Attached to the Harbour Air terminal by YVR this is a busy, pub style eatery! Get there before noon if you don't want to wait. Cod and chips served with a
tasty coleslaw was delish! Chips were perfectly crispy! Beef dip very flavorful! Quick service and friendly staff! We would definitely eat here again!

Flying Beaver Bar and Grill is located near the South Terminal of YVR or next to Harbour Air in Richmond. This bar provides excellent views of the river and ocean while providing some tasty food.

Parking comes at a premium here as their parking lot is very small. It will accommodate about 5 cars with an alternate parking area just adjacent to it. The bar is quite small itself seating approximately 30 people at capacity.

We came in after an event in the area. You sit yourself and a waiter will come to you. We ordered their Bison Burger and a highball to drink.

Their bison burger was juicy and flavourful. The first bite was great but, boy, was it messy. There was the option of salad or fries and we opted for the fries. They came out pretty hot but became soggy really quickly. We're not entirely sure what happened here but all we know is that when we finished the burger, the fries were not so good.

Service was pretty good here. We our waiter did the standard check ups. The food came out at a reasonable pace and the price is pretty good.

We saw another table order up some amazing nachos. It was huge and looked phenomenal. We'll be sure to try that out on our next outing. For the meantime, Flying Beaver provides a good alternative to your typical watering holes in Richmond.
Bennys N Caesars
This pub/restaurant is very odd being part of the sea plane terminal. I had their smoked salmon benny. I'm fine with using inventive benny bottoms other than English muffins but a thin slice of french bread is not this. Minimal smoked salmon and a bland hollindaise left me unsatisfied. Oh and drenching potatoes in rosemary does not make them tasty.
Kimboslice
Absolutely LOVE their ribs! I usually go for the half rack ribs ($16) because it's always the perfect portion for me. The ribs come with scalloped potatoes and they are soo good. Best scalloped potatoes I've had by far tbh.. the full size rack I believe is $21 which is also pretty good because their ribs are so amazing.. you could just seperate the meat from it's rack with JUST a fork and with no knife necessary.. the only downfall of this restaurant would definitely be the limited about of seating.. a first come first serve type of restaurant!
Goodafooda
Good food!, fun crowd on saturdays dj plays songs and people at each table form groups they name themselves ours were "the sexy divas" and play a game of "name that song" prize is usually $ towards your bar tab. Theres regular customers which owners and staff know by name, one of which is my dad..he even has his "own" table and as he sits down is handed his "own"beer! He will be retiring soon but will always come here because of the owners and staff. Where can u get that service? In the summer theres a patio with a great view of the planes flying above while tasting fish and chips and a variety of appys with a cold dark ale..ask anyone if they've heard of a place down by the water near the south airport..and they'll be sure to answer yes!

I’ve been several times to Flying Beaver, which is located by the South Terminal of the Vancouver Airport, but mainly for drinks. Earlier this year, I went to try out the dine out menu at the Flying Beaver and was really surprised at how tasty everything was! It’s not fancy, but the comfort food really hit the spot. We started with steak bites and fish tacos (nice big chunk of filet), followed by ribs and BBQ chicken, and ending with tiramisu and brownie. Tack on a couple of beers and we were stuffed! They have a nice patio right over the water, which is very popular!
Islandishra
If you are travelling by float plane, this is the restaurant available. It's okay. Had a smoked salmon Eggs Benny. Wish I had changed out the hash browns for a salad as they were hard and tasteless. Probably frozen then left too long in the oven. Eggs were fine and done to request. Service friendly and provided in a reasonable time frame. I ate about half my meal.

Lorna, Polly and I went for another Dine Out Vancouver event before it ended on 31st Jan 2016. We went to Flying Beaver Bar & Grill on Inglis Drive. The restaurant is adjoined to the Harbour Air seaplanes port. We were not able to enjoy the Fraser River view since we went there for dinner on a windy and rainy evening.

Now this place is a hidden gem for wings and beer night. It's located in a seclusive area, and wow the view is really nice. Harbour air shares the space with the restaurant and it's a great partnership since tourists can come grab a bite while their waiting for their plane or getting off their plane.

Wednesday and Sundays have 60 cent wings but you must purchase a beverage. The honey garlic and thai chili are good. The beverage can be non alcoholic in case your the dd. Speaking of dd, I'd like to also highlight one of their services they provide. It's a courtesy shuttle. If you've had too much to drink you can take their courtesy shuttle. Amazing! The view is amazing and the wings here are plump. They also have alot of beers on tap. I would recommend this place for sporting events. Try to get a seat farthest to the right where you have the view from the patio.

My girlfriend and I came here for wing night. Our server, elysia, is amazing. She's very courteous, friendly, and very organized. We both felt very cozy and welcomed by her. We came around 6:00 before security at the front door showed up. I guess it gets really packed at that time. I like the security presence because sometimes the attractive waitresses get hassled by guys gawking at them. It makes the staff feel safer.

Would I come back? Yes. For wings and beer and game nights. If the parking out front is full they have another lot where free parking is.
Picky Diner
I have decided to take a break from Dineout Vancouver this year, meaning I am not going to invest a whole lof of time trying to book any fancy-sounding dinner and compromise to less quality and rushed services. However, when I was looking for a restaurant for a quick dinner for our game night on Friday, I found the $20 Dineout menu at Flying Beaver Bar & Grill quite attractive, with Certified Angus Steak Bites being one of the appetizers and their main courses featuring Seafood Grill and Baby Pork Ribs, the dishes actually on their regular menu. I have heard quite a bit about Flying Beaver, for its decent food, great views of sea planes, and a very thoughtful shuttle service for the pub goers. So it’s a no brainer for me to catch this amazing deal. And our dinner was great and this is probably the best Dineout Vancouver dinner in the low price category that I have ever had.
CuriouslyCarmen.com
Luckily, the Dine Out menu here features the same dishes as the regular menu, so you can still read this review even if you’re not planning on doing Dine Out! I found this restaurant through social media, with many people saying that it was a really good deal. It is in a pretty quiet area, with nothing else here except for the smaller airport terminal for flights within the province.

Came here for some drinks hoping that Sunday would revert back into Saturday. It didn't work... At least now I know they make a good Cesar though. A so tried the kale and artichoke dip. That was good too. Comes with tortilla chips and Naan. Service was also good. I think the place was a little cold inside though. Could have used some heat. Oh well, can't win em all.
The Compulsive Eater
The overall Flying Beaver experience is what it's all about. The times I've gone here has always been in the evening time. This place is always buzzing with excitement and a lively crowd. They obviously serve bar food, their nachos are great and I do really enjoy their pizza. The drinks come fast and the service is nice even on a busy night. No pretentious bouncers here, the guys at the front door are very nice. It's nice any time of year, but its especially beautiful in the summer when you can watch the sunset over the water. They are also very accommodating to large parties. Furthermore, they have a live DJ some nights of the week, one night we were there when DJ Alibaba was spinning and that was quite the treat. If you're from the city they even offer a free shuttle, which I have not taken advantage of as I'm not from the city. Great night out any night of the week!

Flying Beaver actually has a special place in my heart. I love the calming view you get at the bar and enjoy the overall chill vibe there. I’m not a drinker as I’m usually the designated driver, but I really enjoy pub food – and to me, Flying Beaver does it right. The only downside? It’s loud. I mean I can overlook the fact I gawk at other people just to wait for them to leave and steal their seats, but the music and atmosphere can be quite loud there which makes communicating difficult. It’s not as bad as other pubs I’ve been to though so I try to overlook it and see it as vocal training. (There was this $5 pub in Downtown..I forgot which one…it was so loud that we sat for 20 minutes and had to get out because we literally couldn’t hear what each other were saying).
M.Choi
Wonderful view especially during sunset, and very well made food.

The view is just spectacular at the patio, as you can see the seaplanes landing beside you down the river. The iconic chicken wings are rightfully savoury and juicy; while the potato skin with bacon topping is of a class of its own.

came here for a very late night dinner, was going for closing times, and so ordered only a few items to get for a snack type of food that can fill me up, so ordered 2 pounds of wings a mussels.

overall i would say, that the food is decent, the mussels were definitely okay, the presentation of the mussels is a little bit meh, but the taste is decent, the wings, is also okay. not as juicy/tender as i wanted but definitely meet the okay line for me to consider it okay & definitely meaty. The taste of the wings was decent as well. price wise it's a little bit more expensive than what i have expected

will came here earlier next time and order something else, but the view i must say is very gorgeous in here. overlooking the water, and airport is just something. at the moment since the place is hard to reach, it's not something to die for or must reach in this location, and but definitely a good place to hangout while waiting for flights. food wise, they were okay.
Kelly Yee
Good place for wings! wings weds! although they make you feel like a criminal when entering in the evening. Best to go with a group of people drinking and eating wings
Debbie Stevens
Oh yes. No better place on a sunny Sunday, brilliant food, atmosphere and views.
Kreeszhaa
You need to find your own seating when you arrive without reservation. View is nice, pretty chilly during the fall. On fridays, they have a DJ who would make you enjoy the night. Food is good and you gotta try their specials because they're pretty reasonable in price. Really like going here because it's one of this pubs where it's busy but really good drinks and ambiance. Would totally recommend this to everyone. I think they also give you free ride to the skytrain to encourage people not to drink and drive 👍🏽
NomNomYVR
We ordered their daily special - Salmon salad and halibut with rice. For dessert Mocha mud pie.
The view of the float planes and Fraser River was much better than the food.
Domo Is Craving...
Had lunch recently at Flying Beaver with Jess, her bro, and my colleague and good friend. We went on a weekday and it was pretty busy during lunch time so we had to wait for a table at first, although it wasn't long before we were seated. They had a Monday special on Sleeman Original Draught for $4.56 per sleeve so I got one.
Every Day Is A Food Day
The Flying Beaver can be a bit out of the way as it is situated on Inglis Drive near the YVR airport. However, during summer, their patio is the perfect place to chill since you can watch the planes take off and land and also get some views of the Islands. We decided to check their Wings Wednesdays deal after work which begins at 5:00 pm. The place was bustling when we arrived! You look for your own seat, so there was a bit of standing around stalking for a seat, but we luckily found one within 15 minutes.
Paulina Lam
OMG. Never go to this place again. We were lock in the restaurant coz the server won't let us go as she think we are drinking and driving. The door men took our pic and licence plate and threatened us to call the police. Bad bad experience.
Zum Wang
Service is atrocious. Upon arrival waiter was like seat wherever you like if you find space. Have no idea what the owner is thinking!. Definitely stay away from this hell hole!

PROS
+ Nice views on the patio
+ Delicious food with fresh ingredients
+ Beer selection
+ Offer a bit different dining experience
+ Open early until late

CONS
- Pulled pork was tough

RATING
Food 4.0/5.0
Ambience 4.0/5.0
Service 3.5/5.0
Price $$

Tips:
- Daily Features start at 4:30am. Enjoy their delicious signature dishes and drinks at affordable prices!
- This place tends to get packed pretty quick! Waiting time for us was about 20 minutes.

As one of the Mark James Group's (MJG) restaurants, the Flying Beaver Bar & Grill features well-executed pub favourites mixed with exotic flavours and an emphasis on West Coast seafood. I like this place for several reasons. First, they offer microbrew beers and delicious food. Second, they have the nice patio view with the panorama of the Georgia Straight, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island in the West. And last but not least, you can watch the arrival and departure of the Harbour Air seaplanes on the Middle Arm of the Fraser River. They provide blankets for people sitting on the patio, so don't worry even if the weather gets a little chilly.

Delicious brunch with great views

For our starter, we got a Gluten Free Cobb Salad ($16) which consisted of chopped romain lettuce, grilled chicken, bacon, cherry tomatoes, edamame beans, candied peacans, Danish blue cheese, hard-boiled egg, dried cranberries with ranch dressing. It had a good selection of healthy ingredients and the portion was pretty big too. It was a good shareable size for two of us, and maybe a single person can be full after eating this as well. It didn't taste like a typical Cobb Salad I used to have, but regardless of that I loved their fresh veggies with a nice combination of different sweet and sour flavours.

Poutine with Pulled Pork ($9) consisted of fresh cut Kennecbec potatoes, lots of cheese curds, house made gravy and green onions topped with pulled pork (or bacon depending on your choice). I liked their gravy but one thing I have to mention is their "pulled pork." The pork was not really pulled nor broken into individual pieces. It was a bit tough and not tender enough to be called pulled pork.

But still... I loved that they gave us lots and lots of cheese/cheese curds!

Pesto Shrimp Pizza ($15) is one of their 12" Stone Oven Pizzas that consisted of shrimp, spinach, red peppers, feta and mozzarella cheese with pesto sauce. This was our favourite dish of the day. It had a good mixture of fresh veggies, seafood and cheese. The pizza dough was thin and crispy which I liked about. I would definitely come back to try their other pizzas.

Overall, we had amazing brunch with nice views on the patio. There are some minor things that can improve.
Jamie
Had the worst experience here. Servers are ridiculously rude and the girl manager is super rude as well. Such bad customer service over the phone and face to face. Decent food and nice view but defs not worth it.
Jennifer Yen
I thought this place was just mediocre, we came here pretty late and still had to wait a while before we found seats. We got 2 orders of wings, I've had better wings elsewhere. May be be a nice place to wind down and go for a casual drink or two or watch the game, just not for me.
The Flying Beaver Bar & Grill is such a Canadian name and a lovely hangout, starting with this view. Surprisingly, this is not a tourist trap in any way. It is actually a very pleasant restaurant with excellent quality food and service. Just look at this beautiful Cobb salad. But the real surprise is the fish and chips. These were some of the best in the city (and they are very proud of them). I think I will be back and if the service and food continue to impress, this may become one of my favourite places on the blog. Good place for beer & wings. Nice spot in Richmond for cheap beer and wings (Sunday and Wednesday). However, cheap wings at specified times only. Outside of the specified hours, regular price applies.

The restaurant has a cool atmosphere, the waitresses were nice. However the food was very disapointing.

I ordered the tuna tataki. It had no flavour, the tuna did not look fresh and it had a sickly grey tone to it. It was only paired up with sliced avocado. For $13 it was definitely not worth it.

I then ordered a burger. It came to us cold. The patty looked like something you find in a tv dinner. I could not finish mine as it was not appetizing

Both items came to our table a little too fast that I feel is quite sketchy. When we placed our order it was literally only 8 minutes for the items to arrive. Not sure if they microwaved the items or what. But definitely I will not be coming back.

Profit above friendly service. They are more concerned with filling seats and maximizing profits than encouraging a relaxing atmosphere. Unless you wish to have a rushed meal and move on for the next occupants of your seat, avoid this place. They are rude.

Grumpy waitress. Waitress in flying beaver are RUDE!!! Dont even bother to Smile, i hope its not because im Asian! Well i think the owner dint care, as long as there always full house.

Always a good place to go when you wanna get away from the city and more near the water. Really chill and the servers are always friendly. Their nachos are the best!! A bit pricey but its so worth your penny here.
Laura
Dishonest waitress. Food was good and location nice but the device was below average. On top of that, the waitress decided to unilateral inflate the bill slightly when punching in credit card charges in the hopes that we didn't notice (despite no add ons and a 2-party table) so she could pocket a larger tip.

Nice view, Mediocre food. It's such a nice view that Flying Beaver & Grill can offers to diners. Seated at the window seat where you can see the seaplanes taking off and landing in the water is a unique view. However, the food just is mediocre at best. I want to order the seafood salad sandwich and tell them no salmon for the salad, hopefully they can make something without salmon, but no, they dont' offer substitution. So I have to order the pull pork sandwich with salad instead. The sauce was a bit too overwhelming salty for me, but salad was ok. I also ordered half and half BBQ wings and salt and peppers wings, and both are only mediocre. In fact, you can get some thing similar from Safeway and it is cheaper than here. If you like the view you may like going here, but I go to restaurant for the food. If you like the view you can just park on the side and enjoy the view, without overpaying for mediocre quality and pricey food.

Verdict:
Food: 6/10 (not great food, and no substitution was a let down)
Service: 7/10 (ok service, like other restaurants, nothing stands out though)
Price: 5/10 (for the food they offered not worth the price, unless you count the view)
Overall: 18/30 (passable for a restaurant with nice view, but the food can be passed altogether)

Terrible Policy For Seating People. We've been to this restaurant about a dozen times because we like the atmosphere. Last evening we arrived to a full house & spent about 15 minutes wandering around, looking for a table. We finally got tired of hovering around customers & went back to the front entrance. In the meantime about a half dozen couples did the same routine as us & then left (lost business?). Unfortunately, two couples that arrived long after us, each snagged a table because they were in the right place, at the right time. The servers recognized our difficulty but the guy at the front entrance could have cared less. We won't be coming back until they change their seating policy.

Chicken Strips. Why did you change the chicken strips!? They used to be breaded and crispy and delicious, now they look like they're straight out of the costco freezer :(

Had a party of 18 there and had really rude service. Won't be going back.

Harbour sea planes & great pub food. Went for a late lunch around three and the place was packed. Waited 10 minutes for a seat on the back indoor patio. Tons of heaters to keep it warm.

Ambiance: right on the water! Great view of the sea planes with a comfortable pub feel.

Food: I had a veggie burger with fries and salad. Caesar salad had fresh Parmesan and crunchy texture, not soggy. Veggie burger was full of veggies nicely charred and topped with a generous amount of creamy goat cheese and guacamole. Fries were extremely tasty , hot and crisp. Portions were nice and big.

Staff: friendly and quick for how many people were there.

LOVE the Flying Beaver. I don't know what all the negatives about the Beaver is about. Everytime I go there, you enter a warm, friendly pub atmosphere. People are complaining about how they get bad service as they're going to be seated, but they have to remember this is a PUB. Seating is self-serve after 2pm and if you're expecting 5-star service from a pub, just go somewhere else to get your prissy needs fulfilled.

My most favourite pub to go to in Richmond now and I refuse to go anywhere else. I always get the Pulled Pork Sandwich as it's absolutely delectable, with a side of the Flying Beaver poutine which is well worth the $3 add-on. Their nachos are scrumptious as well, being served in a huge basket/plate, filling up the plate it's served on. Being a constantly busy pub with the majority of the tables occupied most of the times, I must admit that flagging down a server may be difficult but I have no qualms the servers' attitudes and service. They're constantly friendly and ensure that your requests are fulfilled as quickly as possible. The plus side is that you can watch the HarbourAir DeHavilland Beavers and Otters land and take off on the Fraser just outside the pub! Hiiighly recommend this place for anyone looking for nice, hearty comfort food or a quick bite to eat before heading on their flight, or just anytime you want to meet up with friends for a great social time!

Amazing restaurant!. Came in for a birthday lunch with friends, let me say right off the bat the hostess was just plain rude and horrible. She was very snarky and looked very annoyed and over all did not feel welcomed. When we finally got our table, our server made up for the hostess' horrible service. food was amazing, moderately priced and scenery was worth it. will definately come back!

Nice place, unfriendly service. First the good. This restaurant is in a nice building, in a great setting. When I first walked in, I said to myself that I should bring my wife there sometime. I also found the food (a Bison burger, salad and fries) to be quite good. Nachos, shared with friends, were plentiful and served with a good selection of toppings.

Where the place falls down is in customer service. The place is overrun with rules designed to maximize revenue at the expense of patron’s comfort.
When I took the time to express my dissatisfaction the next day, using the form available on the pub’s website, my feedback was completely ignored and received no reply.

If you’re interested, here are the details:

Our party of six arrived in two separate groups. The tiny tables in our area were not large enough for more than four, so the three of us who arrived first pulled up two tables side by side, letting the server know that we would have friends joining us soon.
It wasn’t more than five minutes later when our server curtly informed us that management policy was “no saving of tables for more than fifteen minutes”. If our friends weren’t there soon she would have to take away on of our tables. This seemed quite unnecessary, since it was after the first seating on a Wednesday night, and there was no line at the door.
Our friends arrived shortly thereafter, and we ordered drinks. One person in the group decided the water we had been served was good enough for him, as he needed to drive to a Lunar New Year’s celebration later. The server insisted that there was a “one drink minimum” for every person.
This was in spite of the fact that the rest of us were ordering a substantial amount of food and drink, averaging far more than one per person. I was made to feel quite uncomfortable for our companion’s sake, and doubt that I’ll be back any time soon.
Note: I don’t see this as a problem with the server, who was just relaying management’s policy- perhaps without enough training in customer service.

Eat while you watch the seaplanes!. I am a semiregular at the Beav and tend to eat certain things only, like their beaver club. I have never had a problem with the food quality or service. Very pleasant people and I have never felt they have rushed me as a single diner in order to fill the table with a group. A very busy bar and thus very noisy (especially at lunch hour on weekdays) and sometimes it takes a while to get a table. Great for seaplane watching.

Great place to eat. The service and food is excellent....and you can watch the float planes take off and land....very unique place...well worth it to check this place out!!!

Rob

Flying Beaver. We frequent the Beav as we call it. Food is good. Only one pet peev. If you ask for any alteration at all they want to charge you for it, Nickel dime you.. Other than that, great Views, and cheap beers.

Great locations. Tons of cigarette smoke wafting all over.
Gotsomeforme
Great Location - Enough Said. The food was so-so however the location more than made up for the quality. I had to wait a while sometimes to get a beer, i found myself waving my arm quite a few times, however i was pretty happy just being on the water watching the planes fly in.
Pinkfatboy
Good location. Good view of sea planes landing and taking off.
Had some wings which were pretty good, halibut burger was decent as well, mine had an ok size piece of fish in it. Not the best food but a good summer drinking and eating bar with a good vibe and without a lot around to distract.

Urbanspoon consensus is correct. I shoulda listened to the Urbanspoon reviews about the food at the Flying Beaver, or at least remembered them better. Because I found it to be just as the sum of the crowd-sourced wisdom here. Great location, middling food, and the fish burger doesn't have a helluva lot of halibut.

If I had known about this place before, I would have taken out-of-town guests there for a meal, maybe even right after they got off a plane at YVR nearby. It's a quintessentially Canadian place, from the seaplanes that land in the marina just outside -- including de Havilland Flying Beavers -- to the views over distant mountain peaks on Vancouver Island. The view alone makes the food taste 50% better, IMO.

Other reviewers are right -- the piece of blackened halibut on the fish burger is too small. It covered about 60% of the bun. I got mixed up and thought reviewers complained that the fish and chips was too small, not the sandwich. It was cooked well -- a bit close to overdone, but I liked it. The mango salsa on top was a nice touch. My lemon-chicken soup was so salty that I couldn't finish it, plus it wasn't all that different to chicken vegetable soup. I was expecting something more like Greek avgolemono. All three of my companions from my bike-riding group loved their steaks. The apple pie with ice cream got raves from them too. They loved the place, I was lukewarm about it.

Great Food. Food was delicious! Make sure you get a seat on the patio if the sun's out. Atmosphere was nice and casual. The crowd was on the noisy side, but if that kinda thing gets to you, this isn't the place for you. If you go to restaurants to eat and enjoy food, try the Flying Beaver!

Pad Thai with prawns Excellent dish as one of the best I've had.

Lunch. The food was superb - the waiter was great! It's all good. We always head there when we are leaving YVR or South Terminal. Keep up the good work and good food coming..;...

I like where this pub is located. Nice view of the water. Our Waitress was super friendly but the food was just okay.

Seafood Disappointment. Not happy with this Pub. Besides the entitled server, my seafood sandwich was mushy and unrecognizable as seafood, stale bun and warm salad. Suffice to say I will not order that again or return to the restaurant. Prices are too high for the mediocre quality.
Gatsby
WILL NEVER GO BACK. Very Noisy, can't carry on a conversation. The Halibut barely covered the bun, thin as sole, not even tasty. Sandwiches were mushy, chicken salad mostly lettuce. Had to pay for pop refills, ridiculous as the prices are high already for what you get. There stamp system sucks. I paid for 6 full entrees and he would only give me 2 stamps per card, how cheap!
Gotta Eat
Decent wings, not much selections though

I love the beaver! My husband and I come all the time, breakfast is great, lunch is awesome, and Saturday night name that tune is always a blast! Love the point system and the beaver bus too! Overall a great pub in Richmond!

On Da Fence. Came here to try breakfast. Had eggs benny and found them OK. Nothing 2 good or bad. Had been here previously N agree w/ other reviewer proclaiming "typical pub food"

Rude service. Not going back.

All for that charming view. Outstanding location.
Go there and enjoy a most pleasant Vancouver SUMMER/SPRING quick meal.
The chicken and Brie sandwich is reliable.
I am there for the charming water view on a summer day/evenings.

The service is very poor. But the butter chicken is absolutely fantastic! Its definitely worth going!

HORRIBLE Service!. I made a reservation and arrived on time with half of my party. The other half was on a delayed SeaAir flight and were going to be 20 minutes late. We ordered drinks for the entire party and two appetizers in anticipation of their arrival. Upon their plane landing (we could see them de-planing on the dock behind us), the manager came over and told us that he was taking away our second table because our entire party wasn't there and they have a "15-minute rule". We argued that we could not control a flight delay, that we had ordered for the entire group in their absence and that they were visible walking up the dock to the restaurant (30 seconds away). The manager still said that he was taking our table. We were flabbergasted with this appalling service and pleaded that he just wait for 30 seconds until our Grandmother could make it with the rest of our family up the dock to our tables (she's in a wheelchair). He still said no and said that "if our guests were going to be there, they would have been there by now." All of us are very frequent guests and we all removed our Frequent Beaver cards from our wallets, put them on the table and walked out. I will NEVER go here again, NEVER refer anyone to this establishment again and will tell everyone I know our horrific story of a restaurant that I used to love. Terrible management decision Flying Beaver.

Amazing atmosphere with food and service to match!. Had a quick stop in Vancouver during a busy day of flying and walked from Avitat-Esso to the Flying Beaver. Just a quick 5 minute walk. As soon as we crossed the street we saw a Beaver on floats land right in front of us. Hard for a pilot to not geek-out about the constant flow of floatplanes coming and going in airline service. But beyond the cool atmosphere, the staff and even the patrons were very, very friendly and outgoing. Our server never stopped smiling! I had the wild salmon wrap and my colleague had the chicken and brie sandwich with pear. Both were amazing! Wish I could come here more often!

Seating Frenzy. This was the worst type of patron seating, or lack thereof, that I've ever experienced. They don't take your name or keep any sort of track on who comes in the door and when. They just allow people to enter and hang around the tables waiting for one to free up. Just imagine you're sitting there trying to enjoy a meal and drink while someone is standing nearby trying to push you out the door. This pits patron against patron. I know because after my wife sat down a woman came up to her and insisted that they had been there first and that the table was hers! Save yourself the embarrassment and give this place a wide berth!

Trying to Get a Table. I totally understand the reservation system that restaurants have set up, so when there are tables set aside as reserved, I get that. I also understand that a bar's point of existence is to sell drinks and the bars I go to you float around drinking - sometimes you are sitting down, sometimes you are at the bar, sometimes you are walking around talking to other people. That is a bar. However, when I go to a place that has a full menu, I am expecting a different system than the way a bar functions. At The Flying Beaver you arrive and then have to float around the room, without leaving your name, trying to find a table, but the rules say you can't hover, so there are these groups of people standing around in little clutches waiting for a table. Then when someone does make a move that they are going to leave, you are forced to get assertive and get there first before the other people who arrived after you grab that table. Then when you are sitting down with your peeps someone comes over and asks why you took the table they were waiting for, and you have to explain that actually you were at the place well before they were and besides one of the "rules" is that if you see a free table you can grab it. The whole process is totally DEMEANING. I am never going back. Yes, that's right. Me and my money are never coming back.

I missed my flight so I came over for lunch. I am not a fan of Manhatton Clam Chowder but it was great ang the wok squid was the best. Melt in your mouth tender. A bit spicy but that was good for me. This will be a regular stop for me when I fly out of YVR south terminal.

Always good. Great wings and beer.

Off the beaten path but worth it. I've lived and worked in Rmd for 15yrs and this is still one of my favourite places to eat and have a pint. Over the past few yrs it has really stepped up its game with the food the kitchen puts out...by far the best pub food in Rmd. It's almost always hot, fresh and tasty.

Come here if:
- its a sunny day
- you don't mind having to wait (or even be slightly aggressive to get a table). I think they might have a hostess now but not all the time
- you're from out of town and want to see what real ppl from Vancouver eat and hang...laid back & chat with friends, in no rush

Don't come here if:
- you don't have much time or hate waiting, you never know if you might have to wait 20mins for a table...plus the food tends to take slightly longer than avg
- you don't like noisy places...it's usually busy with lots of ppl chatting, add in some background music, sometimes tv sound and seaplanes...you get the picture
- if you have high expectations for service...its not bad but they waitresses tend to be very busy and not able to spend much time at each table. It's just the way it is
- if you have kids (10 & under) or elderly, I wouldn't really recommend it. There are only a few tables that kids can actually sit at, so you might be waiting a long time

God bless the Beav!

Dissapointed with the changes. Unlike some other people posted here I did not like the changes they made to the menu. They used to have some healthy choices in a main dishes - we would come to eat their good quality tuna encrusted in the seeds and lightly seared in a pan with the wild rice risotto but then they cut on a wild rice in a risotto and finally cut this dish overall. Now if you want to have a fish there (and I always want to have a fish when I am dinning on a riverside) than you have left with the very fatty looking fish and chips or some other less than healthy choices - the only more natural looking fish we found on a menu was the halibut burger but the fish was so covered in a paprika that I could hardly eat it. I guess they expect people to order more beer to go with it when the food is so spicy?

The only good thing is the view.. We go to the south terminal often, which is right across from the Flying Beaver. The last time we were there a couple of years ago was a bad experience so we hadn't been frequenting it.

However, we were at the main airport and were going to the south terminal and had 1 1/2 hours to kill. We thought we would give this place another chance as it is close and does have a wonderful view.

From the moment we walked in, we did not get a good impression. The music was to loud to talk comfortably. The place needed a good clean. The tables were dirty.

We selected a table but their was a note saying something like "you can sit here, but if people we like stop by you will be asked to move". Why not put a reserved sign on it? We moved on, found another table and sat down. The waitress did come over promptly to get our drink order When I only wanted water, her attitude was disdainful. However, I got the water when the others got their drinks.

We had decided to order the wings special. Oh boy, the rules. First we each had to have a real drink, water was not acceptable. OK, I ordered a beer and gave it to my husband. My husband ordered 12 hot wings, which was ok. But my Grandmother and I each ordered 6. Not acceptable, the minimum was 10. Again, ok, we ordered 10 each. They came covered in goop and were not very good. We each ate a couple but couldn't continue as the sauce was overpowering. We did eat the decent yam fries.

Up until this point we took the rules in stride. But when we asked the waitress to wrap the wings up so we could take them home, she informs us we can only take a maximum of 7 wings with us. When I explained we could not eat them all and didn't want to order that many anyways, she said "I explained you had to order 10". Yes, she did, but she did not explain we would have to eat the all of them. She informed us she would pack up 7 and throw the extras away, or we could eat them. At this point I snapped "Who makes these ridiculous *)(*& rules?". She stomped off and refused to come back.

So I asked to speak to the manager. He eventually came over and started chewing me out for swearing at the waitress. I apologized and tried to explain our situation, and that all I wanted was to take the leftovers home but he just kept explaining the rules to us over and over. Finally I said there is no point in continuing this conversation, could we please have our bill so we could leave. He then continued to talk, but he became angry because I cut him off. He just wouldn't go away.

It's ridiculous really, we are good customers, pleasant, take situations as they occur and tip well. All we ask is that we get treated fairly and with respect. I understand they need to have rules surrounding their specials, but come on, don't make me order more food than I want then tell me I either have to eat them or throw them out, but still have to pay for them.

Well, the best way to vote is by not bothering to go back and you can be sure that is what we will do.

2 Thumbs up!!. Good place for sunset or a Sunday afternoon caesar!! I like the changes they made to the menu, and REALLY like the concept of the free shuttle for customers who would like to get to and from and not have to worry about taxi's.

I've been here at least 6 times...food, service, and view are always fantastic. Had the Canneloni there two days ago and it was some of the best I've ever had!!! Everything is priced very well and always something good on special. Grab some friends and go check it out!

Nothing not to like about it. Great place, great vibe. Seems a lot of other folks know this too as it is super packed unless you get in early. Always great to know that whichever day you pick there's a special on. Outside porch gets a little nippy in the evening depending on the season, but there is outside heating and some blankets if you want to chance a cooler evening. Friendly servers and very reasonable loos. Plenty of parking over Inglis and if you're lucky right outside the pub, but never more than a quick 5min stroll from the front door. Chili wings are well done and good value, teriyaki, cheese & pineapple burgers are fabulous, sunsets from the porch are awesome.

Great view, service and tasty food. Love the view from Flying Beaver - we sat on the patio overlooking the water and watched the planes fly down. Reasonable wine prices, well-made pub grub, and a really neat environment.
