Referred by a friend and really enjoyed the soup. Had a spicy fish broth with beef brisket and enoki mushrooms and loved it. Will definitively go back

Deer Garden Signatures has two locations in Toronto: one in Richmond Hill and Scarborough. A couple of the co-op/PEY students from the University of Toronto recommended this place as well as a colleague.  I decided that it was probably a place to try out since it's close by to my workplace. The location of this restaurant was at the southwest corner of Time Square plaza.

My dad had been talking about this noodle spot for weeks that I finally had to try it with him. I really enjoyed the customization as you choose your soup base, noodle type and then toppings. The bowl was huge and for the price it was a really good value. The place is packed at lunch so be sure to get there before noon or plan for a later lunch.

We were extremely excited to find out that Deer Garden had locations in the GTA! This was about 2 weeks after we came back from Vancouver, we decided to go try the location in Richmond Hill. I tried the tomato and pumpkin fish soup again, as the girls like it. Mike tried the Szechuan Spicy soup. We both got beef and beef brisket toppings with rice noodle. I'm not the biggest fan of fish soup, but it's healthy, right? Mike's spicy soup was pretty good.

One of my favourite go-to places for noodle-y comfort. Prices are affordable, service is quick, and the place is always full of customers. Don't expect to taste anything mind-blowing, because after all, they simply serve noodles with toppings you could find at any Chinese supermarket. But I return time and again because it offers me the comfort of a home-cooked bowl of yum.

After my visit to Chef Papa, a few people asked how the restaurant compared to Deer Garden, a more established and popular customize-your-own-noodle-bar with multiple locations. I couldn’t answer because I hadn’t been yet. This obviously had to be rectified, so The Hubby and I stopped by the Richmond Hill location for dinner one cold weekday night.

If you're looking for noodles in the area and you want some weird combo of ingredients, Deer Garden would be the place to go. You get to customize whatever you want in it, including which broth you want. The portion is pretty good for what you're paying for. The noodles also come with a drink, but it only covers the basic hot teas/coffees. Their other drinks are so good but you'd have to pay extra for them. They also offer little snacks to have on the side (like chicken wings! So good).

I've been to this location quite a few times. I feel like it used to taste better back then when it was still newer. At my recent visit, I found that they have raised the prices of the noodles and the sides, which makes it a lot pricier for noodles. I feel like the black pepper soup base used to have a stronger taste.

Aside from that, I gotta say that I did really like the noodles here. I could be a bit biased since I love eating noodles in soup. They have quite a few soup base to choose from. I prefer the fish broth based ones. Their noodles are done well and isn't soggy. You have a choice of 2 toppings. **I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEIR BEEF TENDON BALLS** (if you like beef tendon balls!) It's one of the best beef tendon balls I've ever had. You can also choose to add a side at extra cost and you get a free hot drink (certain ones) and you can choose to add extra to upgrade it to cold. You can also request to get XO sauce on the side, which I highly recommend if you like spicy. The perfect combo is noodles of your choice with the fried fish cutlet side and their cold lemon ribena drink. Absolutely deliciously wonderful. The fish fillet is so perfectly cooked and crispy.

Overall, I think the noodles are decently good. Might be as worth it for the price now since it went up. But if you love noodles in soup, beef tendon balls, fried fish cutlet and cold fizzy black current drink like me, then you must come here and try it.

Great fish broth! You pick the flavour for the soup, choice of noodles, & other toppings. The meal even includes a hot drink. Great place to come during cold winter months...it'll warm you up for sure.
The steamed minced pork-cake on rice is also really good. Reminds me of simple home cooking when I was little. Best part, they offer soup without MSG.

Not sure if they take reservations. Will have to remember to check for next time as the wait can sometimes be long.

Service is rather rushed. They take you're order, quickly bring you food (unless you order the steamed pork cake on rice...that takes about 15-20 mins to make), then offer you your bill. No the place to come if you want to sit & talk for a while.

This isn't the best noodle shop around, but it's kind of fun to pick and choose the type of soup base, noodle, toppings, and drink. If I'm looking for something quick and am in the area, I usually go to Deer Garden. The combos start at $9.95 but you have the option to upgrade your drink and 2 additional sides.

Good place to get noodles. The portions are big, there's a wide variety and it's really cheap. They specialize in fish broth and it actually tastes pretty good. The service however is extremely poor. I had to ask for my bill multiple times.

If you are craving Hong Kong style rice noodles in delicious fish soup broth, look no further than to come to Deer Garden. Here, you can customize your meal by selecting the type of noodles, the kind of fish meats and additional toppings for a great experience. I love eating here during the cold winter as nothing warms you up then a nutritious bowl of broth and noodles.

With noodles as their main menu item, luckily the turnaround was quick and we were quickly seated. This casual HK style restaurant had an easy ordering system where each customer is given their own order sheet. Noodle order sheet at Deer Garden The base price for a bowl of noodles (one size only) and a cold drink was $8.75. With that price, I was able to choose the soup base, choice of 2 toppings and the noodle type. Additional toppings could be added at a minimal charge. Side orders were a great deal, as they were only $1.95. As the restaurant is known for their no MSG fish soup, this is what we tried during our first visit. I ordered the fish soup with parsley and century egg, with beef tendon and sliced beef, with thick noodles. Fish soup with parsley and century egg, with beef tendon and sliced beef. My husband ordered the chaochou style dried fish and minced pork fish soup with beef tendon and tripe. Chaochou style dried fish and minced pork fish soup with beef tendon and tripe When the order came out, we were surprised at the portion size and the amount of tender beef tendon pieces in each bowl. The fish soup had a mild fish flavour compared to Thai or Vietnamese fish soup bases, but still satisfying. On the side, we ordered dessert wings with ginger and deep fried pork chop. Both items were really tasty, crispy and an amazing deal!

It’s not because I love it but the location is great and the price is fair. I read one review that said the portions are small, you fucking kidding me right? We always had to do take-outs because they were SO EFFING BIG. I forgot to add that we tried a rice bowl which took a little bit longer to prepare. It was okay, for some reason I really like the pork but wish they had more sauce for the rice lols. Now I eat a lot but their bowls are the size of your head so like..what are you complaining about? Anyhow I have a fe

The fish puffs didn’t disappoint as usual; they’re so delicious because they soak up the fish soup entirely and when you bite into this fluffy goodness, the soup gushes out in your mouth and it’s an extremely satisfying experience. So delicious!

Hong Kong style restaurant with Hong Kong style service. The decor is nice and clean; reminds me of a typical HK noodle shop without the oil stains and filth.

Not quite as good as Japanese ramen but still acceptable. The noodle and topping choices are "meh". There is nothing that really stands out as excellent. But they do give lots of food. The HK style milk tea is good; lots of milk with strong tea. The fried pork is also good.

Pretty decent given that it’s a Hong Kong-styled restaurant. Nothing fancy but you get plenty of room and space between other diners. I don’t have much to say honestly lols, this is not its selling point anyways.

Service
Mediocre at best but we shouldn’t ever rate a Chinese restaurant for its service. Now I’ve only gone on weeknights so I never had to wait but I’ve heard wait times are around 15-20 minutes during weekends. By the way it’s very common to share food in Chinese restaurants so be sure to ask for an extra bowl of two if you are going with company.

Food
This is the part you should read about. They are famous for their fish soup base and not a joke, it’s great. The only thing I want to add is that it’s not super strong but you get many flavours to choose from and honestly for my taste buds, they filled the satisfaction. For less than $10, you are paying for a gigantic bowl of noodles and a hot drink.

Side dishes can also be ordered and the only one I’ve tried is the chicken wings. So for roughly an extra of $1.25 you get 3 fried chicken wings. Did I mention they are crunchy and delicious? I’ve actually been to this place 3 times. It’s not because I love it but the location is great and the price is fair. I read one review that said the portions are small, you fucking kidding me right? We always had to do take-outs because they were SO EFFING BIG. I forgot to add that we tried a rice bowl which took a little bit longer to prepare. Anyhow I have a feeling their prices are the same for lunch which I think might be overpriced at that time period. So go during dinner hours!
