Review Akane - Richmond Hill

This is a great little family owned restaurant. We came here a few times and the price with the quality of food is quite worth it. Their sashimi is fresh and they do provide good portions.their tempura is quite good even for people who don't normally eat the tempera veggies, it's gone from the plate. 😋 It's a bonus when the whole family loves to eat at this restaurant and there are something for everyone. At the end of the night everyone leaves with a full stomach. Service is a hit and miss, generally they are ok but I can see why people complain about the service.

Sushi | Cash discount (10%) | Combo & bento specials *Take out available during COVID-19* *Cash payment 10% discount* Standard good sushi quality and service. Great value. Complimentary japchae usually. ********************************************* UPDATE (August 2020) Ordered Love Boat A combo for 2 again to go. Still came with complimentary japchae but the cute thing was, because of COVID they didn't have any sea urchin/ uni when I had ordered from them before. So this time they honoured it. The chef and the lady owner were super cute and polite. They now have 2 patio tables available and I believe limited indoor dining too. They still have their safety measures in place such as masks, hand sanitizer and plexiglass. Would definitely return again. ************ OCTOBER UPDATE ************ Still open for take out and delivery. Still had my Love Boat For 2, still the same good quality. Ordered take out but asked if we can sit at the tables outside. As we quickly ate our party tray the sweet server still gave us hot tea seeing that we were cold. Thank you sweetie!! Will continue to be a fan :) ************* NOVEMBER UPDATE*********" No more "patio dining" since it's getting cold. And no dine in either due to covid. But still got my Love Boat for 2 with a cash discount. Good as usual! Unfortunately they're so busy they didn't have japchae this time BUT the sweet girl offered miso soup and salad :) Called to make my order and ready in 20mins. Support you!!

The all day bento was quite a deal. Everything was made fresh. The tempura was crispy and hot out of the fryer. The sushi and sashimi were quality. Can’t wait to come back to try other things on their menu.

This place I’ve been pass by so many times and always confused if this is a Korean restaurant or Japanese restaurant. For years I’ve ignored this place and decided to give a try today. The owners are a Korean couples. The geishas on the wall are actually very unique. Place is not too big can host around 15-20guests. But the music playing list are actually kindaf messed up...... because it combines Chinese/Korean/Japanese/English songs... it’s the only thing I don’t like. But when I get the menu I was surprised the sushi boats are actually so cheap!!! Me and my girl ordered the 63pieces for $62.99. The sashimi are really fresh! You can tell by the collars. It’s very glory not those faded greyish collars. It come with soup and salads and rice noodles before the main dishes serve and ice cream after meal. Attention!!! The soup and salad are depends on which boat you order, does not depend on how many of you guys. For example a family of 3 ordered a boat for 2, then you would only get 2 entries. Also!! If you coming for the UNI, it’s not the season at the moment!!! So do ask before you order if you care about it so much! Nice restaurant, nice services! Decent price with good quality foods! Would definitely come back again!

First time back in almost five years, the owners changed hands since then. But the food was just as delicious as I remember and the service was so good! Extremely friendly waitress who was very cool. Prices are super, super good and quality is good as always. Kpop soundtrack was really nice.

We got the love boat A for 2 people and it was great! The fish was so fresh and generous potions (all this +a small container of japchae for $40 if you pay cash). Will definitely come back again when I'm craving sushi.

Fast food, great service and very good prices! This is our favourite neighbourhood sushi; we were a bit concerned when the previous manager retired, but the new manager has updated the restaurant with new dishes and menu additions, maintaining the ambiance of the restaurant. Takeout and dine-in service are consistently good, and we find new dishes to add to our regular order every time!

My sister and I love coming here! Food is always top quality, fresh and hefty. Service is also 12/10, our server is always enthusiastic, kind and in general, simply amazing. We've been coming for the last few months and we will absolutely continue doing so! Thank you for providing such delicious food!

Sushi was really freaking amazing. Highly recommend this place as their sushi quality is 100% great. I would recommend the Deep fried sushi and the spicy salmon roll

I have been here twice and both times I had loveboat A. This was shared between me and 2 other girls. We also ordered an udon to share one time. The amount of sushi and sashimi is the right amount and we are super satisfied each time. The variety of fish is good and most importantly it is fresh. I absolutely love the fatty salmon that just melts in your mouth. Oh! Did I mention that uni is included? So bomb.. Lol thinking of the boat just makes me crave sushi. The udon was alright but doesn't compare with the sushi/sashimi.
Be sure to have patience as the sushi restaurant is rather small. The restaurant's parking lot is also shared by a number of restaurants in the plaza... So be prepared.. It is worth it!!

If you are looking for good value, this is also the place!

My parents recently came back from a quick trip to Toronto and brought back for me a delicious platter of sushi, one of my loves. I devoured it with them for lunch, and saved a few pieces for dinner. My favorite is this piece of creamy uni placed delicately on top of a bed of rice. Seriously yummy. Good sushi places are few and far between, but my go-to spot is a place that Tiffany introduced me to a few years back. Akane is located in Richmond Hill. A small mom and pop restaurant with great attention to detail and the friendliest staff ever. If you are there for take-out, they will often offer you green tea and a spicy salmon hand roll -on the house- while you wait. If that isn't great service, I don't know what is. This meal was the perfect prelude to my upcoming adventures, where I will hopefully consume more uni than one should ever try. Excited to bring you all along with me! naomi

After seeing many drool-worthy pictures from Akane Sushi on my Instagram feed, I found an excuse for The Fiance and I to meet a friend there for dinner. While the sushi was as delicious as the pictures promised, the entire experience was shaky with non-existent or rushed service. Located in a strip mall full of restaurants on Highway 7, Akane Sushi was easy to spot from the street. Surface parking was limited but there was plenty of additional spots underground. When we arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was 80% full with two large families and a table set up for 10+ people along the wall.

Extremely Bad Service & Unprofessional. I ordered an All Day Box order (CL8) from the menu, which includes 3 California Rolls and 3 Spicy Salmon Rolls. I asked to replace the 3 California Rolls with another type of Roll (Cucumber, Avocado, Salmon). I was told this would cost me an extra Dollar, which I said was ok.
When I received my order, they brought me 6 Cucumber, Avocado, and Salmon Rolls, instead of only 3, with no Spicy Salmon Rolls. I told them that this was not my order and that I would like them to replace it with the 3 Spicy Salmon Rolls. I was told that this was not possible. I told them that they should have told me that this option was not possible before they brought my order. The chef told me that "I know for next time". He refused to give me the order I wanted, because he was too lazy to make me the rolls that I wanted.

They were all very unapologetic and had extremely bad service. I will not be returning back here and will not recommend it to anyone else.

Decent sushi, but HORRIBLE SERVICE. Overall I'm not impressed, sushi here is decent (not great), it's cheap, but the portions here are unfortunately smaller than what I'm used to, plus the sizes for the spicy salmon rolls are cut quite unevenly which can get annoying...however the service is just ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS!!
I went here to order takeout sushi today on my way back from the doctors and as I was paying, I asked to pay with my credit card since I had NO cash on hand. That's when the problem started, their credit/debit machine wasn't working and so they spent about an hour and half trying to fix it which meant that I had to wait that long just for takeout, till I could finally pay and get out. Now I'm a pretty patient person, but waiting that long was just ridiculous...and unfortunately I didn't have a car so I couldn't drive out to a nearby bank and withdraw some money, which would've been much faster btw, than having to wait on them. Also while they were trying to fix their machine, they never actually told me that it wasn't working, I came to that conclusion myself when I saw them struggling to fix it by taking it apart and calling to figure out what the problem was, but it would've been nice for them to at least directly tell me what was going on instead of just basically ignoring me like that.
Finally when they did get the machine working, I was able to paid with my credit and handed me my food. However, they never apologized to me for the long wait and inconvenience. They basically acted as though nothing happened...it was unbelievable. I wasn't really expecting a discount or anything to compensate, even though it would've been nice and would've made me a lot less pissed off, but c'mon not even an apology for the long wait/inconvenience? Are they serious? How could they pretend like nothing happened? SO RUDE! Never coming back here again, there are sushi places out there with tastier sushi, friendlier/talkative staff and MUCH BETTER service, go there instead, unless you don't mind having to potentially deal with crap and stress-inducing service then be my guest.

At my visit to Akane Sushi, I ordered one of their many sushi platters. They had all the combinations possible between sushi, rolls, and sashimi. I prefer salmon the most, and I was very happy to see all the salmon on the platter (except my dad, as he likes the other fish that is normally prepared in assorted platters like this). They also gave us a dish of these Korean clear cold noodles to start, and green tea ice cream to finish. Overall, the rolls were really filled and delicious. The sashimi was a hit or miss. Some of the pieces were really good, and some of them were so thin that it fell apart when you picked it up. I was thoroughly satisfied with this meal though! It did satisfy my sushi craving, except I now have the craving again due to writing up this post!

First off: $4.99 Spicy Salmon Roll. Secondly: $45 loveboat
for three people

Do i have your attention yet?

Their LOVEBOAT was SO worth it and I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to get it.

We got the one for three people but there is an option for two people and it's only $31.99. All their love boats include fresh uni, scallop, toro, yellowtail, salmon belly and ika so you are definitely getting variety for how much you spend!! Absolutely beautiful in presentation and tasted fantastic (and fresh!). Note: the loveboat also includes a large plate of japchae (Korean glass noodles), soup and salad.

We naiively ordered a SPICY SALMON ROLL ($4.99) on top of the loveboat. Big mistake - we were STUFFED and had to get it in a doggy bag. The size of the roll was huge ! Like Frank L., we easily could have eaten two and been full.

The staff was extremely friendly :)

For the price, you really can't complain. I will most definitely be back !!

I've been here several times and ordered their party trays for take out. They have a lot of options on their menu. And their prices are really good. Visited today for lunch and got their bento box. For $7.99 it was a great deal. I got L4 which was the Sashimi, Roll, and Rice bento box. Also came with salad and soup. Very limited seating and keep expectations low for service.
