Don't judge a book by its cover ... or how the inside of the book looks. The food speaks for itself and is of reasonable price. Spaghetti with ragu sauce is rich and hearty. Risotto special was out of this world good. Meat pizza was only marred by the waitstaff asking "wasn't it the best pizza you've ever had?", because it wasn't, but it was fine.
Speaking of waitstaff, the server for our table seemed extremely aloof and unfocused; hopefully, it was an off night.
Not the most sophisticated decor or service, BUT ... the food is very good! We always love the calamari. We tried the bruschetta today and it was awesome! The pizza and pasta are all good too. The chef knows what he is doing. The neighborhood gem.
Very good Italian food but the service needs some work. Waiters need to be a little more professional and actually know how to wait tables.
Never disappoints. I have gone to Citro's quite a few times and the food is always amazing! Easily there is no better Italian food in Toronto or the GTA!
If you are vegetarian ask Johnny, who is a Master Chef, to make you the Linguine in virgin olive oil and garlic with veggies. If you like spicy let him. AS a matter of fact all of his dishes are great and all my friends who are non vegetarian love his restaurant.
5 Stars for Citro!
Vic
Looks can be deceiving.. When you order your food, it comes to you in a plate, but the food itself appears small; do not let that fool you, it can stuff a person... and I can eat a lot.
If you catch them on a busy night, the food does come slow, but at least the drinks and appetizers come earlier (be sure to order those first if you're expecting a wait). The staff is phenomenally friendly and despite the busyness at times, they maintain their professionalism and friendly attitude through and through.
The food is nice, they occasionally have the angel hair pasta on their daily special (whose name escapes me), but I always order that when it appears, because its so good!
The location itself is small so seating capacity is limited, but there are enough tables for a big party to multiple small groups. Their biggest (non-combined) table seats 6 max.
Oh, and do not mind the flinker of the light; that cursed dishwasher can be a hog sometimes...
Neighbourhood Gem. This place has fantastic food, fresh ingredients and a skilled chef who knows how to please. I'm sad it's not more popular but happy at the same time - I feel like that makes it more mine! The last time I was in, I was reading the specials and the chef offered to make me something that he'd just gotten in minutes earlier - fresh mussels. They were amazing! I've enjoyed pastas, pizzas and various specials and in fact, think I'll head there right now. A quiet unassuming little place with delicious eats.
Amazing, everything was cooked to perfection using the freshest ingrediants. Bright flavours, good portions, fast and friendly service. This is the first time I've ever felt the need to review a restuarant, it was that good!
Citro is a small cozy Italian restaurant run by chef Johnny. He makes all food to order. I have tried many of the pasta and fish dishes they are excellent. His Tiramisu is the best that I have eaten in a restaurant.
Good Italian place. Good is awesome. Atmosphere is great, bring a date. Romantic. Get the gnocchi.
Fantastic food, nice place, friendly staff, good customer service, really good price.
We go to Citro regularly and have never been disappointed. Everything is incredibly fresh and delicious. The Bruschetta is the best I've ever had. The fresh fish specials are unbelievable. The salads are wonderful. The service is friendly, and the chef Johnny is amenable to any requests. Once I asked him if he was planning to serve whole fish, and he ordered and prepared them especially for us. We brought out-of-town guests for the fish meal (whole orata - grilled perfectly) and they were thrilled. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly.
Citro is probably one of my favourite restaurants! The food is to die for and the service is great!
Great food, every thing fresh made to order
Really quaint, very good food!
Amazing Food. My wife and I were searching for a random Italian restaurant to try in the Richmond Hill area and came across Citro, which had very positive reviews. When we arrived, we were surprised to find a very small and quaint restaurant.
My wife ordered the Homemade Ricotta Gnocchi with sautéed Mushrooms, Zucchini & Roasted Red Peppers in a Rosé sauce. Each of the gnocchi pieces were smaller than what we've usually seen, but they were just melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
I ordered one of the specials they had - a mushroom risotto with tenderloin tips. The risotto was excellently done with a wonderfully creamy sauce and the tenderloin tips were very tender.
For dessert, we shared a tiramisu. Very creamy and just the right amount of coffee flavour. One of the best we've tried.
After conversing with the waiter, we also found out that everything is made in-house, including their sauces and desserts (including the tiramisu). The restaurant is also planning on re-making their menu. I encouraged them to add the mushroom risotto I tried as a regular menu item. I really enjoyed it!
Citro Italian Restaurant. I eat at Citro Restaurant at least once a week. The food is great. The checf is amazing. He was trained in Europe and does some great dishes.
Johnny does special meals for customers with special dietary needs.
He also does healthy juices. Carrot, Beet, Beet/Celery.
When you visit, if you like spicy...ask for Penne Arrabiata. Also, his Pizza is great.
Jonny is a real chef. I have been there many times and I have yet to be dissapointed.Excellent taste makes it just the way you want it.keep up the good work
Authentic Italian Flavour in Richmond Hill. Great, fresh and authentic Italian food at a very reasonable price. I found the veal parmigiana to be great, among the best that i had ever had. I also enjoyed the breaded chicken, and look forward to tasting the beef lasagna and the eggplant parmigiana. The owners were both friendly and efficient. I fully intend to eat there again. I'd certainly recommend it.
GEM. This restaurant, has amazing food.
having tried the breaded chicken, spaghetti and too many pizzas to mention, you mix and match your own pizza!
great salads, vegetarians are catered for.
a must try.
did i tell you about the amazing hot sauce!!
ask the owner johny to try this amazing sauce, all the food is cooked to order and is extremely fresh!!!!!!!!!!
the owner johny is extremely passionate about his food... stop by and say hello to johny and try his delectable food!!!
I adored my crab cakes appetizer. It was a bit hefty at $14 for only two crab cakes and a side salad but the quality was definitely there. Cutting apart the crab cake, I could taste strands of crab meat in the seasoned patty. There was a slight spiciness to it from the chipotle aioli which I loved as well. It was delicious!
My friend and I visited this restaurant for galentines. It's a cozy spot but I think the interiors could definitely use some upgrades or atleast a fresh paint of color.
As for the food the quantity and price was reasonable. Flavors were good too. The appetizer (Arincini) and the dessert (creme bruleè) were my favorite. I really wished they offered fresh grated parm for the pasta and black pepper like other Italian restaurants.
The service was good because the
servers were polite. However, I'm not sure they know what they are doing. They might be underage as when I asked if they offer sangrias the waitress asked me if I could let her know what goes into it and she could make me one 😲
If you're in the area, and feeling like some Italian, check this place out.
WOW. Best Italian food I’ve ever had!, the owner was so friendly and super fast! New favourite spot!
Excellent food, presentation and value! One of the best meals I’ve had in Richmond Hill, a real treat. If you’re looking for a special place for dinner try Citro. We went Sunday night and the service was great and the food will bring us back to try more things on the menu. Highly recommend it!
Very nice, quaint little Italian restaurant. Food was perfect and was exactly what we expected from a nice Italian restaurant.
Our server was friendly and efficient, but not very knowledgeable about the food. But we were there for the food and the quiet atmosphere and enjoyed the experience.
Don’t let the appearance from the street put you off this little gem. Food was superb, served hot and very, very good. Reasonably priced, varied menu and great service. Just go!
Take out ravioli in rose sauce. It was scrumptious. Will definitely order more. Nice family owned little place in downtown Richmond hill.
Came here for my birthday couple weeks ago and it was absolutely delightful. It was quite on a weekday and everything was fresh and delicious. We ordered two soups – a roasted tomato with feta and another butternut squash. This was followed by a golden beet salad garnished with pomegranate and pine nuts. My husband had the risotto and I, the eggplant pasta. All dishes were so flavourful and beautifully presented. The portion of the main dishes were just right – not too little nor too much.
The decor of the place was quaint and cozy. Paintings by local artists were hung around the room and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely go again. Nice to have a good quality Italian restaurant in RH as most of them seem to be in DT.
